C
“Please help me get through this!” I watched the big LED screen. There were five minutes left. I felt great pain in my back, which had been kneed by a player from the other team. I rolled from side to side, tears streaming down. It was a blow to my pride for I was always the man of the match, the best player on the field, popularly known as the “Untouchable”.
Soon doctors came. “Jared, can you hear…” Those were the last words I heard before I lost consciousness (知觉).
I opened my eyes slowly as silence filled the air. I tried my best to sit up but the weight of my body was like gravity and it pulled me down. I became aware that I had lost sense in my legs. I moved my fingers to feel them. They were still there! Could I be…? I shook my head.
“I’m your doctor, Wilson Ty. You are a strong man, Jared. How are you feeling?”
Feeling? I could not feel anything.
“My legs…” I said, then paused. Dr Wilson Ty began to talk about my condition. But only two words jumped out at me—paralysed (瘫痪的) forever. As I was trying to make sense of what he meant, my coach and a few of my teammates came in.
“Coach…help me!” The words came out of my mouth.
“It’s OK, Jared. Don’t lose heart.” My coach was trying to avoid saying more as he turned away, hiding the tears.
“Coach, I want to play soccer again, no matter what happens. I need you to help me,” I said as I held his arm tightly.
I struggled bravely in the next few months to be on my feet again. The hard knock had left me with a spinal cord injury (脊椎损伤). The “Untouchable” had become the “Vulnerable (脆弱的)”.
After almost a year in hospital, I finally felt my feet firmly on the ground as I made my way to the field. This would be my first game after fate (命运) almost turned my life upside down. Without doubt, it was the game that I won, I thought.
As I walked towards the field, the whole stadium was filled with “Hero! Hero!” together with “Welcome back, Untouchable Jared!” on the LED screen. They were shouting louder than they had ever done. My teammates handed the ball to me. The indescribable feeling came to me and this time, there were tears of joy.
31. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 3 refer to (指代)?
A. The air. B. Silence. C. The body weight. D. Gravity.
32. When Jared thought Without doubt, it was the game that I won, he probably felt ________.
A. free B. proud C. curious D. nervous
33. What is the best title for this story?
A. The LED Screen B. A Lucky Boy

第三段提到:“I tried my best to sit up but the weight of my body was like gravity and it pulled me down.”,表明句中it指代前文提到的“the weight of my body(身体的重量)”,句子将身体重量比作重力,是身体的重量(the body weight)让受伤的Jared无法坐起、向下坠。
【32题详解】
倒数第二段提到:“After almost a year in hospital, I finally felt my feet firmly on the ground as I made my way to the field. This would be my first game after fate (命运) almost turned my life upside down. Without doubt, it was the game that I won, I thought.”,表明Jared受伤瘫痪后经过近一年的艰苦康复,终于重返赛场,他认为自己战胜了命运的打击,赢了这场和人生的“比赛”,此时内心充满自豪。
D
Photosynthesis: ▲ ?
You might already know the basics of how photosynthesis (光合作用) works. Plants use sunlight to make the food they need to live. But one day we might be able to use photosynthesis to run our cars, heat our homes, and more! Scientists are working on it right now!
Plants are like machines that turn light into food using chlorophyll, which helps them use the sun’s energy to split (分离) water into hydrogen (氢) and oxygen. Plants turn hydrogen into food, but if we can find out how to use the sun to split water, we could use hydrogen as fuel (燃料).
Scientists can already split water into hydrogen with a machine called an electrolyzer. But today’s electrolyzers run on electricity, which often comes from a power station that uses fossil fuels, such as oil and natural gas. This can cause pollution and produce greenhouse gases that cause climate change. Using the sun to create hydrogen could be a cleaner form of energy. It’s called artificial photosynthesis.
Yulia Pushkar is a scientist who’s working on artificial photosynthesis at Purdue University in Indiana. “If we want to create artificial photosynthesis, we have to create a material which will take in the light and split the water,” Dr. Pushkar says.
Luckily, Dr. Pushkar and her team have done just that. They have created materials that split water into hydrogen under light.
There’s a problem, though that sounds great. The best electrolyzers have iridium (铱) inside. Iridium is very rare. Now she’s working on a different way to make hydrogen from sunlight by using iron. Iron is very abundant on Earth. So, it’s much easier and cheaper to find than iridium.
We also need to be able to use it in our cars and homes. Most cars today still use gasoline. If we can make and use hydrogen, we won’t run out of it. And it doesn’t produce harmful greenhouse gases.
Dr. Pushkar is hopeful about artificial photosynthesis. “We and other researchers around the world are working hard to develop clean energy,” she says. “Our artificial photosynthesis is the way forward.”
34. Why does Dr Pushkar use iron instead of iridium in the research?
A. Because of its richness. B. Because of its quality.
C. Because of its weight. D. Because of its power.
35. The following sentence can best be put at the beginning of ________.
Of course, just being able to make hydrogen isn’t enough.
A. Paragraph 5 B. Paragraph 6 C. Paragraph 7 D. Paragraph 8
36. Why does the writer end the passage with Dr. Pushkar’s words?
A. To describe her valuable daily work.
B. To prove her contributions to the research.
C. To show her confidence in the research.
D. To thank her team and other researchers.
37. Which of the following is the most suitable for ▲ ?
A. Not Just For Plants B. More Than Just Sunlight
C. More Choices For Oil D. Not Good For Fossil Fuels
【答案】34. A 35. C 36. C 37. A
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇科普说明文,主要介绍了人工光合作用的研究进展及其作为清洁能源的潜力。
【34题详解】
根据第六段“Iron is very abundant on Earth. So, it’s much easier and cheaper to find than iridium.”可知,Dr. Pushkar使用铁代替铱是因为铁更丰富、更便宜。
【35题详解】
“Of course, just being able to make hydrogen isn’t enough.”意为“当然,仅仅能够制造氢气是不够的”。根据第七段“We also need to be able to use it in our cars and homes.”可知,该段主要讲述不仅要制造氢气,还需要能将其应用于汽车和家庭,题干所给的句子放在第七段开头可起到承上启下的作用,承接前文成功制氢的进展,引出后续的应用要求。
【36题详解】
根据最后一段Pushkar博士的话“We and other researchers around the world are working hard to develop clean energy... ‘Our artificial photosynthesis is the way forward.’”

The Lantern Festival is a very important part of traditional Chinese celebrations. It falls on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month. On that night, people decorate their homes with colorful lanterns. They go out to admire the lights and watch traditional operas, enjoying a truly wonderful evening.
The tradition of lighting lanterns at the festival has been celebrated since the Han Dynasty in China. It gradually developed into a long-standing custom. By the Tang Dynasty, this celebration became even more common. The tradition continued through the Ming Dynasty, when the festival finally became an important part of the New Year celebrations. During the Qing Dynasty, it turned into a large folk festival, celebrated by people all across the nation.
People celebrate the Lantern Festival in many ways. The most popular activity is enjoying the lanterns. These beautiful lanterns come in many shapes and sizes-some are perfect circles, while others take the form of animals. You can see them everywhere. Public parks often hold impressive lantern displays, and children often carry small lanterns in the streets.
There are many other fun activities during the festival. One of them is guessing the lantern riddles (谜语). Lantern owners write riddles on small notes and put them on the colorful lanterns. Then, guests try to guess the answers. If someone guesses the answer correctly, they go to the owner and usually receive a small, delightful prize.
The Lantern Festival is more than just a time for fun; it shows traditional Chinese culture, the value of family togetherness, and the wish for happiness and a good life.
A Lucky Boy
C. An Unforgettable Game D. The Untouchable

It has been passed down for thousands of years and is deeply loved by the Chinese people. In recent years, the Lantern Festival has also been known and celebrated in many other countries.
