The year 2026 marks the Year of the Horse in the Chinese lunar calendar. Horses are liked by people all over the world. But how much do you know about them?
The eyes of horses are located on the sides of their heads, so they can see almost 360 degrees around themselves. They can move their ears to hear sounds. They can even hear other horses from up to 2 kilometers away. A horse’s lungs can hold about 60 liters of air while a human’s can only hold around 6 liters. This helps horses breathe in lots of oxygen when they run and play. However, they only sleep about 3 hours a day and sometimes sleep standing up. Isn’t it amazing?
Though horses may be of less practical importance in modern society, their spirits still run deeply through Chinese culture. We can experience them in many Chinese idioms (习语). A talented person is often called Qianlima, an energetic horse that covers a thousand li a day. If someone takes the lead in an activity, we will say Yimadangxian. Besides, there are also some horse-related English idioms. A dark horse is a little-known person or team that surprises everyone by winning. A workhorse is a person who does a lot of work without complaints.
▲ They can remember their human friends after long periods of separation (分离). Horses are loyal. They stick to their owners through wind and rain and never leave easily. Horses are determined (坚定的). They keep finishing long-distance races no matter how tired they are.
People born in the Year of the Horse are said to share such good qualities. So, do you have a friend or a family member who enjoys 2026 as his or her animal year?

At the CCTV 2026 Spring Festival Gala, a fun performance called WuBOT became very popular, where over 20 G1 and H2 humanoid robots, together with some martial arts students, performed traditional Chinese kung fu. The performance connects traditional kung fu with the modern AI-powered humanoid robots.
Humanoid robots, which have a lot of important parts like sensors (传感器) and AI systems, are machines that look and act like human beings. Then why are they made like human beings? This is because most things around us, like doors and stairs, are made for our size and shape. If they look like us, they can use these things like we do. As a result, we don’t need to make big changes to these things. This can save a lot of money and time.
Humanoid robots serve as new tools that work with and for humans in different fields. In the factories, humanoid robots carry car parts, pack goods and move boxes. They actually do the boring repeated human work. At home, they help clean floors, tidy rooms, make coffee and iron the clothes. In hospitals, they send medicine and help nurses lift patients. Schools buy humanoid robots for STEM classes. Shopping malls and restaurants use them to give performances to welcome guests. Most importantly, humanoid robots can work as policemen going on patrols (巡逻) in our neighborhood, and this provides us with a safe environment.
Nowadays, with the fast development of science and technology, humanoid robots have been developing quickly from lab inventions to real-life helpers. More companies have started to produce them in large numbers. Because of mass production, the cost of humanoid robots has dropped a lot, so even small workshops can afford them. By 2050, there will be about 930 million humanoid robots doing simple jobs. Around 80 million humanoid robots will work in homes. China will probably have the world’s most humanoid robots. Some experts believe that they will become as common as household appliances (家用电器) in the future.
33. Why does the writer mention the fun performance WuBOT in Paragraph 1?
A. To advertise a TV programme. B. To lead in the topic of the text.
C. To introduce the Spring Festival Gala. D. To spread traditional Chinese kung fu.
34. What does the word “they” refer to in Paragraph 2?
A. Sensors. B. Machines. C. AI systems. D. Humanoid robots.
35. What can we learn about humanoid robots in Paragraph 3?
A. They can only do the repeated work. B. They have taken the place of humans.
C. They are widely used in different fields. D. They have developed slowly at present.
36. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. The types of humanoid robots B. The shapes of humanoid robots
C. The appearance of humanoid robots D. The introduction to humanoid robots

“How were things going today, Zhao Min?” Mum asked me.
“Terrible. Wang Xinyue got the role of Mulan at last,” I said.
“Then what role did you get?” Mum added.
“None,” I whispered. I ran to my bedroom and started drawing in my sketchbook (素描簿). Drawing always makes me feel better.
The next day, Wang Xinyue was cheerful. But when the last bell rang, her mood changed. She was so nervous that she asked me to practice with her in the school hall. I wanted to say no. Then I realized I couldn’t leave yet. My parents had signed me up (报名) for the late bus, because I thought I would be in the play.
In the hall, Ms Wu, director of the play, handed out copies of the script to all the actors. I sat in the third row, wishing I were in my bedroom drawing. Ms Wu pulled a cardboard onto the middle of the stage. It was brown with small hills and old city walls. Then the play started. Wang Xinyue acted so well that everybody cheered for her. I had to say that she was really suitable for the role of Mulan.
“When will we get the real sets (布景)?” Wang Xinyue pointed to the cardboard.
“These are the real sets,” Ms Wu said. “We don’t have an art teacher this year. So that’s the best we could do.”
Wang Xinyue and I walked outside.
“You were great,” I said. “Everyone will love the play.”
“Thanks,” Wang Xinyue said. “But did you see the sets?”
I thought for a moment. “Maybe I can help.”
I spent that evening drawing. The next morning, I put my sketchbook into my backpack and ran to the bus.
Time seemed to go more slowly. Finally, the last bell rang. I rushed to Ms Wu’s office and showed her my ideas. After seeing my ideas, she talked to some other teachers. They liked my ideas too. Over the next weeks, a corner of the lunchroom was filled with cardboard and paints. And lots of students were working on the sets.
Finally, the opening night arrived. I sat next to Mum and Dad in the hall. When the curtain (幕布) rose, a piece of amazing cardboard appeared, on which was a huge land with rolling hills, well-trained soldiers and running horses. The play began. Wang Xinyue was a wonderful Mulan, and everyone clapped (鼓掌) when the play was over.
Then Ms Wu called me up to the stage. She said into the microphone, “I’d like to thank the students who painted the sets. And special thanks to Zhao Min, who designed them. Her effort and talent made tonight extra special.”
Everyone clapped. For me, I did get a part in the play after all. And it was just as good as being Mulan.
37. Who got the role of Mulan at last?
A. Zhao Min. B. Wang Xinyue. C. Ms Wu. D. Mum.
38. Which of the following is the correct order of the story?
a. Ms Wu showed special thanks to Zhao Min on the stage.
b. Zhao Min rushed to Ms Wu’s office and expressed her ideas.
c. Wang Xinyue asked Zhao Min to practice with her in the school hall.
d. Zhao Min ran to her bedroom and started drawing in her sketchbook.
A. d — c — b — a B. d — b — c — a C. a — b — c — d D. a — c — b — d
39. What can we infer (推断) from the underlined sentence in Paragraph 14?
A. Zhao Min asked Mum to draw the sets with her.
B. Zhao Min hoped to go home as soon as possible.
C. Zhao Min wanted to tell her ideas to Ms Wu at once.
D. Zhao Min wished Wang Xinyue to practice with her after school.

Nature is wonderful. The beauty of the natural world lies in landscapes. Let’s walk close and listen to them.
I am the grassland. Colorful flowers grow here, and lovely animals like sheep and rabbits live happily on me. My plants take in carbon dioxide (二氧化碳) and produce fresh oxygen to clean the air. I store rainwater underground and feed nearby rivers. I am quiet and lively, a warm home for all living things.
I am a mountain. I stand high and I’m usually covered with rocks and earth. I work as a natural water tower—snow and rain on my peaks flow down to form rivers that offer drinking water. My thick forests slow down floods and protect the land from soil loss. I am strong and silent, watching the world for thousands of years.
I’m a desert. I am the Earth’s natural temperature keeper. I take in heat during the day and release (释放) it at night, keeping the temperature balanced. Besides, my plants store water in their leaves and give it to animals. Some animals feed on the leaves, and the water can keep them healthy.

根据原文“I pushed open the old wooden … of the yard”,push open表示推开,door意为“门”,符合推开院子木门的场景。
根据原文“Hearing my voice, she turned her head around … , glasses sliding to the tip of her nose.”,奶奶听见我的喊声,快速转头,quickly意为“快速地”,符合语境。
根据后文“Grandma always thought I was keeping growing up, even though I was in Grade 8 and nearly as tall as Dad.”,奶奶总觉得我一直在长高,taller意为“更高的”,符合语境。
My little sweetheart!’ Grandma came over. ‘You’ve grown even taller again!’”,每年回来奶奶都会说同样的话,same意为“相同的”,符合语境。
根据原文“She took my hand, led me to the central room, … opened the old‑fashioned wooden cabinet”,took、led、opened是连续顺承动作,and表并列顺承。
根据原文“The door creaked, as if … a story of past years.”,固定搭配tell a story意为“讲故事”,telling符合语法。
根据原文“Grandma pulled out an old red plastic bag. Then she … it slowly”,拿出袋子之后,慢慢打开,opened意为“打开”,符合语境。
根据原文“Looking up, I …
根据原文“And there’s something else… something else…”,奶奶想要在柜子中寻找别的吃食,look for意为“寻找”,符合语境。look after“照顾”、put in“放入”、put out“扑灭”,语义不匹配。
固定搭配in a low voice意为“低声地”。at、on、of,均不能构成该短语。

The year 2026 marks the Year of the Horse in the Chinese lunar calendar. Horses are liked by people all over the world. But how much do you know about them?
The eyes of horses are located on the sides of their heads, so they can see almost 360 degrees around themselves. They can move their ears to hear sounds. They can even hear other horses from up to 2 kilometers away. A horse’s lungs can hold about 60 liters of air while a human’s can only hold around 6 liters.

B 34. D 35. C 36. D

After listening, we know that grasslands, mountains and deserts bring us beautiful sights and hope.
