Every four years, the Games also help audience to get to know more about winter sports from around the world. The Winter Olympics may not have the large crowds and huge stars of its Summer Games, but they share the same Olympic spirit. Skiing One of the most popular sports of the Winter Olympic Games is skiing. Skiers compete in the downhill and slalom (回转赛), and in the short and long cross-country ski races. Skiing was originally (最初) a sport played only in cold northern countries, but now athletes from all over the world compete in this sport, even those from countries without any snow! Skating Skaters compete with each other in speed races or in figure-skating events. The figure-skaters are generally considered to be the stars of the Winter Olympic Games. These ice princes and princesses are so graceful that it’s easy to forget that they are actually highly skilled athletes. Skeleton (俯式冰橇) The skeleton is one of the strangest named sports of the Olympics. The skeleton is named after the shape of the metal sleds (雪橇) used in the 1890s, when the sport first started. The skeleton is a downhill sled race, usually on ice. In the skeleton, a person lies on his or her stomach on the sled, with his or her head pointing downhill! ( )21.Which of the following best describes the figure-skaters? A.Graceful and highly skilled. B.Senior and honourable. C.Amazing and responsible. D.Confident and attractive. ( )22.Which sport requires a person to lie on his or her stomach on the sled with the head pointing downhill? A.Skiing. B.Figure-skating. C.Skeleton. D.Skating. ( )23.What do the three sports have in common according to the passage? A.They all include downhill races. B.They all belong to typical games of Winter Olympics. C.All the three are newly-developed. D.All the athletes come from icy northern countries. B I am a multi-sport athlete and seasoned coach. When I was growing up, school wasn’t really my thing, but sport very much was. Athletics connected me to my school community by giving me a sense of belonging and success even when I struggled in the classroom. When I entered education, I knew I wanted to be more than a coach on the field and court—I wanted to help students like me make meaningful connections to school through sports. I designed a programme around the concepts of comfort and stretch zones. On day one, I set up a range of equipment for different sports across a field. In groups, students discussed sports that they felt comfortable and safe playing. They then took turns selecting their comfort sport on the field, doing a brief sharing, and playing with their group. Afterward, we had a class discussion on the importance of doing things that bring joy and passion, and how sharing that passion with others motivates us and the people around us. On day two, with the same field design and sporting equipment, I introduced the idea of stretch zones. Students formed the same groups as on day one and discussed which sports were out of their comfort zone and more challenging to them. Some of my students were shy and others slightly frustrated (沮丧的) as they struggled to perform the skills in sports in which they were not comfortable. Then we discussed, as a class, how even when something is challenging, if we recognize the difficulty and intentionally practise, we give ourselves the opportunity to overcome it over time. The programme required more than just adjusting my curriculum (课程)—it also meant some changes to the way I taught. I found myself opening up to my students and sharing my own hardships and successes with them. As a result, my students felt freer to be their real selves. ( )24.What did the author think of sport when he was a student? A.It helped him get attached to school. B.It led to a decline in his grades. C.It made him struggle in the classroom. D.It appealed mainly to seniors. ( )25.Why did the author design the programme? A.To change curricula and teaching methods. B.To prepare students for unexpected challenges. C.To deepen students’ connections with school. D.To share hardships and successes with students. ( )26.What was a problem facing the author on the second day of the programme? A.Students wanted material rewards. B.It was difficult to group students. C.Some students feared challenges. D.The sports field became crowded. ( )27.What can we infer about the author? A.He is involved in one sport. B.He used to be very shy. C.He is in favour of safe sports. D.He is a creative teacher. C Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) has made a remarkable breakthrough with the development of their second-generation mucus (黏液) robot, a creation that has captured the imagination of both the scientific community and the public. This robot, also known as the magnetic (磁性的) mucus robot, is designed to travel through very limited spaces and perform tasks that would otherwise be impossible or require cutting. The robot is made of a mixture of strong neodymium magnets, borax, and polyvinyl alcohol, which gives it a soft, flexible (灵活的) body that is able to stand dramatic transformations. It’s controlled not by its own power but through external magnetic forces, allowing it to move and change shape as directed. This feature enables the robot to squeeze through tiny gaps as narrow as 1.5mm, showing its exceptional flexibility and adaptability. One of the most likely applications of this robot is in medical area. It could possibly enter the human body to get rid of accidentally swallowed foreign objects, such as batteries, which can be highly dangerous if left inside the body. To ensure safety for internal use, the robot is coated with a non-toxic layer of silica, which prevents it from harming human bodies while inside. However, it’s important to note that further testing is required to prove the effect and safety of this approach. Beyond its medical applications, the mucus robot also shows promise in the fields of biology, electronics, and other areas. It can control objects, monitor human motion, and even repair broken electrical circuits by acting as a makeshift “band-aid”. The development of this robot is a proof of the creativity and technical prowess of HIT’s research team distinguished by their outstanding research abilities and achievements in technology. This cross-disciplinary approach has resulted in a robot that is not only useful and powerful but also thought-provoking, inspiring discussions about the future of robotics and their potential impact on society. ( )28.What is the main feature of the mucus robot? A.Travelling at a fast speed. B.Performing cutting tasks. C.Moving flexibly through narrow spaces. D.Bridging gaps as much as possible. ( )29.In which aspect does the mucus robot probably make a difference? A.Helping with medical treatment. B.Taking control of human motion. C.Mixing with other medical materials. D.Ensuring the safety of medical workers. ( )30.What does the underlined word “prowess” mean in Paragraph 5? A.Support. B.Power. C.Possibility. D.Fault. ( )31.What’s the purpose of the author writing this text? A.To inspire further discussions. B.To advertise a new mucus robot. C.To introduce an advanced technology. D.To praise a famous Chinese university. D We grow up with a mixed message: making mistakes is a necessary learning tool, but we should avoid them. And that’s a real shame. Because when we tell kids that learning is all about the results, we teach them that mistakes are something to be feared and avoided. We stifle (压制) their interest in experimenting because experimenting means you’re going to make a mess and fail. And that’s too big a risk. Here’s a fascinating experiment that shows how children absorb what we say about efforts vs. results. One of professor Carol Dweck’s experiments asked 400 5th graders in New York City schools to take an easy short test, on which almost all performed well. Half the children were praised for “being really smart”. The other half were praised for “having worked really hard”. Then the students were asked to take a second test and given the chance of either choosing one that was fairly simple and that they would do well on, or one that was more challenging, but on which they might make mistakes. Of those students praised for efforts, 90 percent chose the harder test. Of those praised for being smart, the majority chose the easy test. Professor Dweck told me: “One thing I’ve learned is that kids are exquisitely (敏锐地) familiar with the real message, and the real message is ‘Be smart’. It’s not ‘We love it when you struggle or when you learn and make mistakes’.” One way we can fix this is by understanding the concepts of “fixed mindsets” and “growth mindsets”. Those with fixed mindsets believe either we’re good at something—whether it’s maths or music or baseball—or we’re not. When we have this fixed mindset, mistakes serve no purpose but to highlight failure. Those with growth mindsets are much more likely to be able to accept mistakes because they know that they’re part of learning. And it’s been shown that when kids are taught about growth mindsets, their eagerness to learn improves. ( )32.Why do children often avoid experimenting? A.They consider the process time-consuming. B.They are not interested in hands-on activities. C.They are afraid of making mistakes and failing. D.They prefer easy tasks over challenging ones. ( )33.What lesson can we learn from professor Carol Dweck’s experiment? A.Praise promotes children’s self-confidence. B.Keep children away from struggles and mistakes. C.Praise children for their devotion instead of their talent. D.Parents should give their children timely encouragement. ( )34.Where is the text most probably taken from? A.A guidebook to parenting. B.A report on the art of praise. C.A review of modern teaching. D.An introduction to a psychology book. ( )35.What is the best title for the passage? A.Is making mistakes a challenging process? B.Should kids be praised for efforts or results? C.Is making mistakes a bad thing among kids? D.Should kids have fixed mindsets or growth mindsets? How to adjust (调节) our metabolism (新陈代谢) Most of us have heard that a good metabolism is the golden ticket to weight loss. 36. Simply put, metabolism is the energy used by the physical processes that keep us alive. While our biggest risk of metabolic decline is aging, here are some of the best small changes in habit that can help us improve metabolism.  Watch the sunrise. Simply being bathed in early morning sunshine can increase our metabolism naturally. Our master body clocks work best when in step with the sun, receiving bright light in the morning. 37.     Safeguard our sleep. Sleep is the reset button for our metabolism. Prepare our brain for bedtime by dimming (使变暗) the lights a few hours beforehand. 38. Also, if your sleep is constantly interrupted by light snoring (鼾声), use a breathing strip on your nose to help open the narrowed passage behind your nose.  39.     Try this easy system: in the morning, put five rubber bands on our wrist. Every time we drink 16 ounces of water, take off a band and put it on the bottle. Researchers found that metabolic rate jumped by 30 percent for up to 40 minutes after 14 volunteers drank 16 ounces of water. It was estimated that over a year, increasing water consumption by two cups a day could burn an extra five pounds or so. While there’s obviously no solution to aging, we can learn to adjust our metabolism as our body changes over time. No one knows our body like we do, and listening to our body is crucial. 40.     A.Increase water consumption. B.Set up a suitable reminder system. C.Find what works for us—then stick to doing it. D.Turn off brights overhead and turn on bedside lamps with warm light. E.But that seriously undervalues metabolism’s role in our bodies and health. F.We’d better spend at least 15 minutes every morning outdoors in sunlight. G.We burn up most of daily calories while at rest by sleeping and breathing. Three years ago I was at a really bad point in life and hid out in my apartment. (decision). However, it can be easy for some of them 57. (form) bad habits. These bad habits, if left unchecked, could lead 58. more serious ones when they become adults. To prevent harmful habits from dominating a teenager’s life is essential.  However, to change bad habits is never easy. There is a famous saying based on Aristotle: “We are what we 59. (repeated) do.” In many ways, our lifestyle is the sum of choices we previously made. The good news is 60. we can change if we understand how habits work.  To promote 61. positive change in our bad habits, we must first examine our bad habit cycles 62. then try to adapt them. We can do this by 63. (combine) the information from our habit cycles with our own positive ideas. Aside from this, we can also use the habit cycle to create good habits.  A 64. (success) way to change takes a period of time. As Lao Zi wrote, “A journey of a thousand miles 65. (begin) with a single step.” To reach the goal of change, a person must show some discipline(自律) and take many small steps.  第四部分 写作(共两节,满分40分) 第一节(满分15分) 假定你是李华,最近你校英文报在举办以“Exercise an hour every day, healthy life for a lifetime”为题的征文活动。 The real champion I like running and for me, success was winning every race I participated in. My classmates called me Incredible Dash. One day, there was a sporting event planned in my school. Well-prepared for the running competition, I took part in almost every race there was. A large number of people gathered to watch. Crowds were eager to see the running race because it was the most exciting event. When the race for 400m started, all the boys ran fast. Unsurprisingly, I finished first in the race and received a big round of applause. While it was tiring, I felt proud and was on top of my world. In the race for 200m, I ran at full speed and finished the race first once again. The crowd gave thundering claps to me. I jumped all over the ground and couldn’t be bothered to give handshakes to my fellow racers. Then came the race for 100m. Discouraged by the previous races, most boys quit the race except one, a boy named Matt who was invited as an honorary runner. Matt was born with low vision but he was a determined participant of many sports. The judge came to Matt and explained the situation, asking whether he would like to quit too. I, wild with joy, thought I would win the champion without effort. However, to everyone’s surprise, Matt decided to complete the event. I sniffed (嗤之以鼻), “It is a waste of time. I bet he even doesn’t figure out where the finish line is.” The race of two started. On hearing the starting gun, both Matt and I ran to the finish line. Soon I sped up and left Matt behind. Just 30 metres before arriving at the finish line, I was expecting to receive the applause for the third time when I suffered a leg spasm (抽筋). Paragraph 1: I fell hard to the ground.           Paragraph 2: Arm by arm, we walked towards the finish line. Text 1 M: Where’s my raincoat? I remembered wearing it after getting off the bus. W: Are you sure? You’re always leaving things behind at the office. M: I’m certain I carried it in my hands when I came home. There it is on the sofa. Text 2 W: I like the names Scott and Michael. M: I don’t think our boy should be named Scott. That is our dog’s name. How does Robert sound? Text 3 M: Mary, I really want to apologize for what I said to you the other day. W: Oh, forget it. Text 4 W: Their wedding was absolutely beautiful. M: It really was. I want a big wedding like that. But I think it might have cost them a lot of money. W: I’d rather have a small and memorable wedding in that case. Text 5 M: Have you ever lived abroad, Amelia? W: Yes. I spent some time in America when I was about 8. M: Really? How come? W: My dad’s company sent him to go abroad. Originally it was supposed to be for six months, but it ended up lasting for a year. Text 6 M: Thank goodness, it’s Friday. I’m so tired. We had exams all week. W: Yeah, I’m tired, too. Luckily we’ve finished all the exams. We can relax during the summer holiday. M: Yeah. And I also took my driver’s test today. W: Finally! How did you do? Did you pass it? M: Though the test was really difficult to me, I passed anyway. W: You did? Congratulations! M: Thanks. W: Well, do you have any plans for the summer holiday? I want to go sightseeing. M: Well, I want to volunteer in the hospital. And I think it is meaningful to do the volunteer work. Text 7 M: Oh, dear, I suppose it’s time to start thinking about the summer holidays again. The papers are full of travel articles. W: They always are at this time of year. Do you have somewhere in mind? M: I just think it would be nice to go somewhere different, for example, Xizang. W: Where? Xizang? But it is quite far away. It will cost a lot. M: But I’d like to go somewhere out-of-the-way. Somewhere where there aren’t many tourists. I haven’t been to Xizang, but some people I know told me it’s a wonderful place for a holiday. W: You might have trouble with food and water. M: Oh, that won’t be a problem. I can get some information from the travel agency and see what they are offering. Are you coming with me? W: I’d be quite happy to stay at home and work in the garden. I want to build a path. Text 8 M: I can’t make up my mind which bike to buy, Tracy. Can you give me some advice? W: Personally I like that green one, but I think you prefer the black one, like the one I’m now using. M: You’re right. I like it very much. It’s fashionable. But the brown one is beautiful, too. W: Yes, but it’s more expensive. You have to make up your own mind. M: Every bike here is nice. I don’t really know what to do. Buying a new bike here in Holland is almost as difficult as buying a car back in the United States. W: But there are even more choices. Would you like to try another shopping centre? There are a number of stores selling bikes there. M: Why not? But let’s have some coffee before we go. I hope it will help me to make the decision. Text 9 W: How can I earn some extra money this summer? M: Why don’t we start a lemonade stand, Laura? W: That’s a great idea, William. But do you think we can make any money? M: If we set up in an area with a lot of traffic on a hot day, we will get plenty of customers. We can charge $1.5 per cup because we need to cover our costs. W: OK. What do we need to get started? M: We need the ingredients, including lemons, sugar and water. We also need something to keep our money in, a sign to advertise the lemonade, paper cups and a cardboard box to use as a stand. W: Yeah. And we should have a permit and a cooler. M: OK, let’s get set up and think of a plan to get some customers and make some sales! W: Why don’t I attract the customers and you make the lemonade? Oh, and we can ask Nina to serve the customers. M: Sounds good to me. Text 10 M: Most people may have experienced some of the best moments in their life. Do you know the best thing that ever happened to me? It was when I lost my last job. Yes, really! You may be surprised and find it difficult to understand, but it is really true. I never liked being stuck in an office all day with computers and a telephone. Now my hobby is my full-time job. I start work very early, er…in summer I usually leave home at about 5:30 in the morning, but in winter not until about 8:00. I have a small truck, and I carry all my tools in that. It’s autumn now so I’m cleaning up the gardens—I’m picking up leaves and pulling up old summer flowers. Oh, and I’m planting small trees too. At weekends, my wife and I often drive to the country and explore fun things. I’m interested in collecting old radios and she likes to collect old cookery books. I don’t earn much, but enough for my hobby. I’m a very happy man. 根据第三段的“These ice princes and princesses are so graceful that it’s easy to forget that they are actually highly skilled athletes.” 故选A。 根据第四段“In the skeleton, a person lies on his or her stomach on the sled, with his or her head pointing downhill!” 根据第二段的“One of the most popular sports of the Winter Olympic Games is skiing.”、第三段的“The figure-skaters are generally considered to be the stars of the Winter Olympic Games.”以及第四段的“The skeleton is one of the strangest named sports of the Olympics.” 根据第一段中“When I was growing up, school wasn’t really my thing, but sport very much was. As a result, my students felt freer to be their real selves.” 根据第一段“This robot, also known as the magnetic (磁性的) mucus robot, is designed to travel through very limited spaces and perform tasks that would otherwise be impossible or require cutting.” 根据第三段“One of the most likely applications of this robot is in medical area. It could possibly enter the human body to get rid of accidentally swallowed foreign objects, such as batteries, which can be highly dangerous if left inside the body.” 故选A。 根据画线单词后面的“…HIT’s research team distinguished by their outstanding research abilities and achievements in technology.” 根据第一段“Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) has made a remarkable breakthrough with the development of their second-generation mucus (黏液) robot, a creation that has captured the imagination of both the scientific community and the public.” 根据第一段中“Because when we tell kids that learning is all about the results, we teach them that mistakes are something to be feared and avoided. We stifle (压制) their interest in experimenting because experimenting means you’re going to make a mess and fail. And that’s too big a risk.” 根据第二段“Of those students praised for efforts, 90 percent chose the harder test. Of those praised for being smart, the majority chose the easy test. Professor Dweck told me: ‘One thing I’ve learned is that kids are exquisitely (敏锐地) familiar with the real message, and the real message is “Be smart”. It’s not “We love it when you struggle or when you learn and make mistakes”.’” 通读全文,特别是根据第一段“We grow up with a mixed message:making mistakes is a necessary learning tool, but we should avoid them. And that’s a real shame. Because when we tell kids that learning is all about the results, we teach them that mistakes are something to be feared and avoided. We stifle (压制) their interest in experimenting because experimenting means you’re going to make a mess and fail. And that’s too big a risk.”和最后一段“And it’s been shown that when kids are taught about growth mindsets, their eagerness to learn improves.” 故选A。 根据第一段“We grow up with a mixed message: making mistakes is a necessary learning tool, but we should avoid them. And that’s a real shame. Because when we tell kids that learning is all about the results, we teach them that mistakes are something to be feared and avoided. We stifle (压制) their interest in experimenting because experimenting means you’re going to make a mess and fail. And that’s too big a risk.” 因此,C项“Is making mistakes a bad thing among kids?”(孩子犯错是件坏事吗?) 36.E 上文“Most of us have heard that a good metabolism is the golden ticket to weight loss.” 中的but表示转折,指出这种看法严重低估了新陈代谢在我们身体和健康中的作用,下文“Simply put, metabolism is the energy used by the physical processes that keep us alive.” 37.F 上文“Our master body clocks work best when in step with the sun, receiving bright light in the morning.” 上文“Prepare our brain for bedtime by dimming (使变暗) the lights a few hours beforehand.” 39.A 下文“Try this easy system: in the morning, put five rubber bands on our wrist. Every time we drink 16 ounces of water, take off a band and put it on the bottle.” 故选A。 40.C 上文“While there’s obviously no solution to aging, we can learn to adjust our metabolism as our body changes over time. No one knows our body like we do, and listening to our body is crucial.” 41.B 根据转折词but和下文“I felt like my weight, about 480 pounds, stopped me…” 42.D 根据上文“…invite me to do things…” 43.A 根据下文“He told me…” 44.C 根据上文about 480 pounds以及下文“…if I didn’t make a change in my life…” 45.A 根据语境以及“…that could make that change was myself.” only唯一的;other其他的;same相同的;next下一个的。 46.B 根据“…people would laugh at me.” 47.A 根据“I had tried to lose some pounds but it never worked.” 48.C 根据下文“…I was pulled to the gym.”和“…he was really good at…me and would work out at my pace (节奏).” show up出现;hold on坚持;give up放弃;catch on理解,受欢迎。 49.D 根据语境和上文“I felt like my weight, about 480 pounds, stopped me from enjoying many…” but for要不是;instead of反而;except for除了;because of由于,因为。 50.B 上文提到作者总是觉得自己太胖而什么也做不了,结合下文“…would work out at my pace (节奏).” 51.D 根据上文“He got a gym membership (会员资格) and wanted to take me.”以及“…he was really good at…me and would work out at my pace (节奏).” 52.A 根据“I bought a gym membership…” 53.D 根据上文“…started working out…” 54.B 根据“I kept going to the gym…” 分析句子可知,这里是it作形式主语的句型“It is adj. for sb to do sth.”,真正的主语应是不定式短语。故填to form。 由句意和空后宾语more serious ones可知,这里是短语lead to,意为“导致”,to是介词。故填to。 故填that。 故填a。 first examine our bad habit cycles和then try to adapt them是顺承的关系,应填并列连词。故填and。 One possible version: Exercise an hour every day, healthy life for a lifetime Nowadays, doing sports is becoming more and more popular. As we know, a person who keeps on taking exercise regularly will keep fit and live a happy life. As for me, my favourite sport is playing basketball. After school I usually spend half an hour on it, which not only builds up my body but also makes me refreshed. Playing basketball helps me relax after a period of tiring study and improves my study efficiency. Besides, through the game, I have learned the spirit of teamwork. It is also a good way for me to make new friends. In short, playing basketball enriches my life and makes me more confident. Let’s do sports together and enjoy a healthy life! One possible version: I fell hard to the ground. At this moment I felt sad and ashamed that I couldn’t finish the race. I lay on the ground, unwilling to face the fact and the crowds. I don’t know how to react. Suddenly a hand reached out to me. I raised my head and found it was Matt. “Let’s run together,” he said. There was just sincerity on his face. I believed I should trust him, and gave him my hand. Arm by arm, we walked towards the finish line. The crowds fell into silence, and then broke into loud applause. What did they applaud for? I think I know. Bowing to Matt, I thanked Matt for his help and admitted he was the champion. “No, I participate in the race not for the champion, just for the participation. You are very excellent,” he said. I was surprised at first, and then realized that the full engagement and good faith deserved the real champion.
