Relax and breathe.
Whether it’s a business meeting or a date, the first thing you must do in order to communicate is to relax.
When you relax, you are in control. You control your reactions (反应) and your reactions do not control you. Breathing is central to relaxation. Take a few deep breaths and your body will begin to be more relaxed. This will help you communicate well.
Think and you will be prepared.
Have you heard of the old saying “Think before you speak”? Well, it is true. By thinking ahead about how the conversation might flow, you will be better prepared, more relaxed and more confident.
Follow the flow of the conversation.
If you are uncomfortable, being silent will only make it worse and make the other person uncomfortable as well. So when all else fails, you should follow through with a small talk until a common topic appears.
A good way to keep a conversation going is to ask the other person questions. People love to talk about themselves, and if you do this, they will keep the conversation going, thinking very highly of you. Learning good communication skills is not something out of reach. If you try your best, you will succeed.

阅读下面短文,并用英语回答问题。
As the old saying goes, the faithful friend is hard to find. I have a good friend. Her name is Linda. We met at a singing rehearsal (排练). We happened to be in the same group and had the same interests: We love helping others and singing. So, we quickly became friends.
At times, our friendship has met some difficulties. Once we had a disagreement over the tone (音调) of a lyric in a song. When I was singing, she would always interrupt me and correct me. This made me very angry. So I threw the music score onto the table and left in anger. To my surprise, she shot me an angry glance, and then turned her head away. We didn’t say a word for a week. I tried to find the correct tone online, but I failed. A week later, we started rehearsing again. When we listened to the teacher carefully, we suddenly realized that neither of us had had the right tone. Linda smiled at me and apologized (道歉) to me. Not until then did I realize that friendship requires the sincere treatment of two hearts, not the beating of one heart on another.
Since then, we have had much more to talk about. I’m lucky to have a good friend like her.
53.How did the writer and Linda become friends?
54.Why did the writer get angry with Linda during the rehearsal?
55.How long did they not talk to each other?
【答案】53.They became friends because they were in the same singing group and they had the same interests (like helping others and singing.) 54.Because Linda always interrupted and corrected the writer’s singing tone when she was singing. 55.They didn’t talk to each other for a week.

Dear Tom,
I’m sorry to hear that you are having problems with your good friend. Here is my advice.
First, calm down and try to put yourself in your friend’s shoes. Think about why the argument happened and whether you did anything wrong. Second, take the initiative to communicate. If it was your fault, apologize sincerely. If not, express your feelings honestly but politely. Good communication helps clear up misunderstandings. Finally, work together to find a solution. Is there a better way to learn how to communicate successfully? Yes, there is. Please follow the basic steps below.
