A What keeps us healthy and happy as we go through life? The clearest message that we got from a 75-year study is this:Good relationships keep us happier and healthier.1 The first is that social connections are really good for us,and that loneliness kills. It turns out that people who are more socially connected to others are happier.2 On the contrary, the experience of loneliness turns out to be harmful. There are some people who are more lonely than they want to be.They find that they are less happy, their health declines earlier in midlife, and they live shorter lives than people who are not lonely. And we know that you can be lonely in a crowd and you can be lonely in a marriage. So the second big lesson that we learned is that it's not just the number of friends you have, and it's not whether or not you're in a committed relationship, but it's the quality of your close relationships that matters.3 High-conflict marriages, for example, without much love, turn out to be very bad for our health. And the third big lesson that we learned about relationships is that good relationships don't just protect our bodies, they protect our brains. It turns out that being in a securely attached relationship is protective. Many people are in relationships where they can get help from the other persons in times of need.4 So,good and close relationships are good for our health and well- being.5 This is wisdom that's as old as the hills. Now,ask yourself a question:If you were going to invest now in your future best self, where would you put your time and your energy? A.These people's memories stay sharper and longer. B.We've learned three big lessons about relationships. C.That is to say,the good life is built with good relationships. D.What's more, they're physically healthier, and they live longer. E.It turns out that living in the conflict is really bad for our health. F.They will surprisingly find that this relationship cause mental decline. G.People living in loneliness are either in sorrow or terrible health condition. B My smartphone gave me access to music, information and videos.I would repeatedly refresh my email, shop online and look through the latest bad news.I'd often complain.I felt trapped by it.6 I bought a phone with no touch screen.I can't get access to social media. The benefits are fantastic. I am more connected in my relationships. Earlier, while texting with a friend who had moved,I finally got frustrated()and called her.I realized I hadn't spoken to her since her move.7 I learned that when people connected voice to voice, they felt more bonded. I consume news on my own. 8 But that didn't happen.Instead of spending hours sifting ( through feeds,I use my laptop to selectively visit a handful of news sources. With the saved time,I'm reading more books.I realized being "in touch"with society doesn't require constant monitoring of the Internet. 9 During the lock-downs,I filled boredom by visiting stores sending newsletters to my email.I found myself repeating lines from department store copywriters..Every time I clicked“buy”,I'd get a dopamine(多巴胺) hit.Now I'm online about 10 times less,I'm more thoughtful about what I need and I've had the time to take up knitting and needling-making what I once would have“added to cart'”. I am calmer. When I first quit using my phone,I'd search for it at times.I went through withdrawals.Thankfully, that sense of dependence is false.I've found you can find other ways to do all the things.10 A.I shop less online. B.So I decided to change. C.I spend my time with my family. D.But over time,I became worried about its role in my life. E.I worried that I would miss out important discussions of the day. F.It made a difference to hear both the awe and sadness in her voice. 高考总复习·周测阶梯卷·英语(十)P10一1 G.It's not always convenient, but I'm much calmer without my smartphone. C Around the world people have started participating in some sort of exercise.11 Here are some forms of exercise for people who look forward to becoming physically and mentally fit. Walking Walking is the easiest way to lose weight and keep healthy.12 Walking can be slow at your normal pace or you can choose to walk faster to burn more calories which entirely depends on your body.Regular walking has been shown to reduce the risk of some illness such as heart diseases and high blood pressure etc. Jogging Jogging is considered to be two times more helpful in burning fat quicker and losing weight as compared to walking.13 It is a form of aerobic(有氧的)exercise which helps in improving cardiomuscular(心肌) fitness of the body. Cycling Cycling is one of the easiest way of exercise as almost everyone can ride cycle and can take cycle anywhere we want.Regular cycling strengthens leg muscles. It is the best way to lose extra calories accumulated in the body.14 Weight Training Weight Training is an important part of any fitness programme. 15 This type of exercise uses weight force of gravity in the form of weighted bars or dumbbells to oppose the force generated by muscles. D About 90 percent of the world's population doesn't need to think about which hand to use when picking up a pair of scissors.16.Let's take a look at some of the myths, mysteries and history of our left-handed friends. 17.The belief that left-handed people were witches was widespread in medieval Europe, and they could even be killed. In fact, the word "sinister,"meaning harmful or evil, comes from a Latin word for "on the left side."Even in the 1960s,American children born left-handed were forced to switch hands when writing. There are also some interesting mysteries concerning right-or left- handed people. The human brain is "cross-wired"with the left brain controlling the right side of the body and vice versa(反之亦然).But one University of Oxford study suggests that,in the brains of left-handed people, the two parts are better connected.18. Unfortunately, there are some mental health issues that can especially affect left-handed people.According to a 2013 Yale University study, lefties seem more likely to suffer from schizophrenia(精神分裂症).l9. But other studies have linked the left-handed brain with decidedly creative thinking.Though uncertain, yet with artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, there might be some connection. One area where lefties may have the upper hand is in sports that require quick reaction times.20.Ding Ning, for example,is a left-handed table tennis champion with three Olympic gold medals. But if there is an advantage,it's probably not a result of some special "lefty magic."Recent studies show that there seems to be no definite connection being left-handed and athletic capability. In any case, lefties, hold your southpaw high and show the world what you're made of! A.Altogether,it's not a shame to be left-handed B.Being left-handed hasn't always been accepted C.This includes sports like baseball and table tennis D.It is this disease that has led to their being left-handed E.But it's not the same story for the 10 percent who are left-handed F.Also, studies say that lefties may have an advantage in language learning G.This serious disorder can cause people to hear voices or see things that are not real E How to Take Better Care of Yourself Taking better care of yourself takes a while and doesn't happen overnight. In the end,it pays off in terms of personal well-being,good health, and a confidence that your place in this world is a good and important one! Get plenty of sleep.Sleep is a key part. You need at the minimum seven to eight or nine hours of sleep.21 Take naps(now and then. You deserve it. 22 This not only helps you to stay in shape, but clears your mind for thinking straight, gives you decent breaks from work and study and builds your stamina().Work out,but do not go overboard. Accept that self-care is perfectly okay.It is not self-absorption. 23 Besides,it is making sure you are taking care of physical, emotional and spiritual needs.Self-care is enabling for your life and to help other lives. It is not selfish. Set aside time just for you.24 You can get involved in a hobby or catching up with friends.Denying yourself this time can lead to feelings of frustration, burnout and a sense of a lack of purpose in life.Don't be a stress mess.Always allow a small part of your day to be devoted to what you like to do.25 A.Get plenty of exercise. B.Put yourself to sleep early every night. C.This keeps you clear, and more relaxed. D.Check yourself when you feel it's too much. E.This is time when you do what you enjoy completely. F.It is ensuring that you give yourself the chance to be your best self. G.Everybody is different and what matters ultimately is that you look good. It's no secret that exercising will improve your health.Working out on a regular basis is good for your body. But,did you know that living the fitness lifestyle will improve your brain power and make you a more productive person? Exercising helps you handle stress better. When you work out regularly, your body simply functions better and you are healthier and less likely to suffer painful physical condition.26 OExercising gives you more brain cells. According to the process of neurogenesis(神经发生),the rate at which 高考总复习·周测阶梯卷·英语(十)P10一2 your brain cells are growing will decrease as you get older.27 In 2008, a study showed the brain cells of the people who exercise on a regular basis have a higher brain growth rate.Meaning, adults who don't ignore the gym have more brain power than those who choose to be inactive. OExercising makes you happier. When you do intense exercises,it releases a huge amount of endorphins (内啡肽)into your body.Did you know,a study from Duke University showed that depressed adults who started to exercise had the same positive results as those who took medicine? This is why endorphins are known as natural cure for depression.28 Endorphins improve your abilities to prioritize tasks. This helps you stay focus on urgent matters on the workplace. ●29 Your memory works better when you are active. The American College of Sports Medicine published a study that proves this.30 Then, one part of the group was asked to go running, and lift weights while the other part of the group was asked to stay put. When the students were tested on their memories,it turned out that the group who went exercising scored much better than the other one.
