I. Teaching aims and learning objectives

1. Language Competence

● Students can master key words and phrases: in low spirits, stay up late, lead to, drive sb mad, feel lonely, manage one’s time.

2. Cultural Awareness

● Realize it is normal for teenagers to have different problems. Learn to talk about troubles properly.

3. Thinking Ability

● Think about different teenage problems and simple ways to deal with them.

4. Learning Ability

● Improve listening and speaking skills. Practise pair‑work and group discussion.

1. Key points: Master new words and phrases about teenage problems.

2. Difficult points: Describe teenage problems freely in oral English.

III.  Teaching procedures

Step1 Lead‑in

1. Show the unit slogan: It takes courage to grow up.

2. Free talk: Ask students “Do you have any problems in your daily life?” Lead in the topic teenage problems.

Step2 While-class

Task1 Part A Listening

1. Students read the six sentences first and predict the missing words.

2. Play the audio. Students listen and complete the blanks.

3. Check answers together. Explain key phrases: drive sb mad, feel lonely.

Task2 Part B Dialogue

1. Read the dialogue together. Explain key expressions:

in low spirits, stay up late, lead to, manage your time.

2. Ask students to read in pairs.

3. Analyse the model: talk about problems and give advice.

Task3 Part C Group discussion

1. Question: Do you know any other teenage problems? Give one example and describe it.

2. Work in pairs. Share their own problems.

3. Invite several students to share in class.
