Like Tong Ren Tang, many leading TCM companies are investing in the food sector, tapping into the potential of a market yet to be fully explored. On the one hand, young people in China joke about themselves being “crispy skin youngsters”, mocking their poor health. In fact, it’s more a complaint about stress and depression from overwork. On the other hand, young Chinese want to stay healthy but feel it’s hard to abandon unhealthy habits such as staying up late and eating junk food. Therefore, products that claim to be able to balance good taste and benefit health are favored, experts said. Shi Jingwen,20, barely drinks milk tea, unlike most women her age, because she said she places a high value on health in terms of diet. But she would like to try a cup of almond tofu and osmanthus tea by Tea of Seasons, a herbal beverage brand created in 2022 by a time-honored Beijing TCM provider. “Their products can provide people with a healthy enjoyment both physically and mentally. For example, products like their mung bean soup introduced in the summer better meet people’s needs for cooling down during the hot season. This can also provide a sense of comfort in one’s healthy diet,” she said. She added that the products also inherit traditional Chinese culture, which is special. However, the use of TCM cuisine should take into consideration one’s age, gender, weight and other factors, as well as the different seasons, Experts said, adding that a small intake each time is preferred. As for whether TCM cuisine can truly benefit health or is just a marketing method, it depends on whether it’s a reasonable matching of ingredients and the amount in each product. You cannot truly count on TCM cuisine to significantly improve health. If you really feel uncomfortable, you’d better go to hospital. Kathy Jiang, a partner expert of global consultancy Roland Berger, said young consumers are increasingly drawn to TCM cuisine due to a heightened health consciousness, cultural pride and its compatibility with modern lifestyles. 29.What is special about TCM products? A.It can serve as pills. B.It adds delicious ingredients. C.It mixes with junk food. D.It inherits traditional Chinese culture. 30.What is the expert’s suggestion for people suffering from illness? B.Young people have unhealthy habits. C.Young people have stress and depression. D.The products meet people’s physical and mental needs. 32.What would be the suitable title for the text? A.TCM Products: Modern Diets for Health-conscious Young people. B.TCM Products: Best Medicines for Health-conscious Young people. C.TCM Products: Practical Welfare for Health-conscious Young people. We are in Franz Josef Land, a remote part of Russia between the Barents Sea and the Arctic Ocean. While offshore bears follow the sea ice, hunting seals (海豹)on ice all year round, bears that live by the sea spend their summers on land and are forced to search for whatever they can find. Relying on low-calorie meals such as the eggs of nesting seabirds, it is harder for these bears to pack on the pounds. Researchers recently found that offshore bears around the Barents Sea are some of the most polluted animals on Earth. This is a direct consequence of the seals they feed on. Over a period of 14 years' study, Heli Routti from the Norwegian Polar Institute found that offshore female bears were in a better health, having greater body weight, than female bears by the sea, but on average their levels of pollutants called PFASs are 33 percent higher. PFASs are used to make industrial products which are poisonous and degrade (降解)very slowly. These pollutants find their way to the Arctic through air, where they fall in snow and gradually add up in the ice. As the ice melts every summer, the PFASs go into the water, where they enter the food chain. They eventually make their way into the fat that keeps seals warm and from there into the bears that eat them. During my 15 days in Franz Josef Land, I saw five bears, all living by the sea. Each looked relatively healthy. There are signs that these bears are dealing with the global-warming-caused ice loss relatively well. “The bears, so far, seem to be handling the sea ice loss,” says Andrew Derocher at the University of Alberta, who worked with Routti on the study, “But I'm sure that's going to change if the speed of ice loss increases sharply in the area.” 33.From the text we can learn polar bears living by the sea ________. A.eat seals on ice all year round B.look for food on land in summer C.become the most polluted animals on Earth D.stay on the ice in summer to avoid hot weather 34.What does the underlined part “pack on the pounds” in Paragraph 2 mean? A.Put on weight. B.Move around. C.Fight against pollution. D.Live alone. 35.What is Paragraph 4 mainly about? A.The rate of PFASs' degradation. B.The effects of PFASs on the environment. C.The process of PFASs' entering polar bears. D.The application of PFASs in modern industry. 36.According to Andrew Derocher, what will happen if the sea ice loss increases? A.More pollutants may go into the air. B.It will make no difference to bears. C.The death rate of seals may increase. D.Bears might fail to adapt to the change. 3 For over a decade, Zubin Kanga, a pianist, composer and technologist, has changed the limits of the forms of musical performances. He has both organized and performed shows that have pushed barriers, with motion sensors, artificial intelligence (AI), live-generated 3D visuals and virtual reality among the technological advancements used to unlock new possibilities of music and performances. Kanga’s approach to employing cutting-edge technology was first informed by the relative limitations of his chosen instrument. “The piano is a very accurate technology,” he says. “From the early 20th century till now it hasn’t really changed at all. It’s an amazing instrument, but it does have certain limitations in terms of the types of sound you can create.” One of the early works is Steel on Bone, composed by Kanga himself. He performs the piece using MiMU multi-sensor gloves. “I can put up one finger, and that’ll produce a particular sound,” Kanga explains. “And then I can control that sound just by moving my wrist through the air — I can do that with lots of different gestures.” “For Steel on Bone, I’m actually playing inside the piano with these steel knitting (编织) needles, and getting all these interesting effects on the strings. Then I’m using samples of them. Sometimes I’m using live delays and operating them. The sound can change depending on how my hands are moving. It allows me to make a very theatrical piece, and people can see this immediate connection between how I’m moving — these very big, almost conductor-like gestures through the air — and the way the sound is changing,” said Kanga. This is just the start, and Kanga goes on to be enthused with the use of motion sensors to make music, the possibilities that AI offers composers as a tool, and how virtual reality could transform performances and more. 37.What do technological advancements do for music and performances? A.Remove music barriers. B.Bring new performance forms. C.Popularize musical performances. D.Make performances professional. 38.Why does Kanga talk about the piano in paragraph 2? A.To indicate its stability. B.To prove its rare accuracy. C.To show it has a long history. D.To clarify why he uses technology. 39.How does Kanga perform Steel on Bone? A.By moving his hands in the air. B.By pressing the piano keys. C.By beating the steel knitting needles. D.By making very small gestures. 40.Which can be the best title for the text? A.Technology: When It Replaces Music B.Virtual Reality: Future of Performances C.Zubin Kanga: When Music Meets Technology D.AI Music: From Composing to Performing 二次开发: 1 compose v. 成分,构成,组成 be composed of 由... 方法 the approach to (doing) 做... 精确性 8 in terms of 从… 推迟 postpone doing sth 12 be enthused with 被...... 故填so。 21. 短语desire to do sth. 故填to learn。 22. 故填the。 23. 故填was applied。 26. 故填where。 27. 此处为句型it be adj. that…,it作形式主语,句中真正的主语是that引导的从句。故填it。 28. 短语inspire sb. to do sth. 故填to become。 根据第三段中“She added that the products also inherit traditional Chinese culture, which is special.(她补充说,这些产品还继承了中国传统文化,这很特别)”可知,中药产品的特别之处在于它继承了传统的中国文化。故选D。 30. 根据倒数第二段中“If you really feel uncomfortable, you’d better go to hospital.(如果你真的感到不舒服,最好去医院)”可知,专家建议如果生病了就去看医生。故选A。 31. 根据第三段中“Their products can provide people with a healthy enjoyment both physically and mentally.(他们的产品可以为人们提供身心健康的享受)”可知,中医产品产品满足了人们的身心需求,故中医菜肴受到欢迎。故选D。 32. 根据全文内容,结合第一段中国“With a rising awareness of health and well-being, traditional Chinese medicine cuisine is gaining popularity among young people in China.(随着人们对健康和幸福的意识不断增强,传统中医菜肴在中国年轻人中越来越受欢迎)”和最后一段“Kathy Jiang, a partner expert of global consultancy Roland Berger, said young consumers are increasingly drawn to TCM cuisine due to a heightened health consciousness, cultural pride and its compatibility with modern lifestyles.(全球咨询公司Roland Berger的合伙人专家Kathy Jiang表示,由于健康意识的增强、文化自豪感以及与现代生活方式的契合,越来越多的年轻消费者被中医美食所吸引)”可知,文章主要讲述传统中医菜肴在中国年轻人中越来越受欢迎,A项“中药产品:关注健康的年轻人的现代饮食”为最佳标题。故选A。 根据第二段第一句“While offshore bears follow the sea ice, hunting seals (海豹)on ice all year round, bears that live by the sea spend their summers on land and are forced to search for whatever they can find.”(当近海的熊跟随海冰,终年在冰上捕猎海豹时,生活在海边的熊在陆地上度过夏天,被迫寻找他们能找到的任何东西。) 根据第二段第二句中的“Relying on low-calorie meals such as the eggs of nesting seabirds”(依赖低热量的食物,如筑巢海鸟的蛋)可知,划线部分所在句子是指这种情况使得熊体重增加比较难。所以pack on the pounds意为“增加体重”。故选A。 35. 在第四段中,第一句“PFASs are used to make industrial products which are poisonous and degrade (降解)very slowly.”(PFASs用于制造有毒且降解非常缓慢的工业产品。)介绍PFASs有毒且降解缓慢,第二句“These pollutants find their way to the Arctic through air, where they fall in snow and gradually add up in the ice.”(这些污染物通过空气进入北极,在那里它们在雪中飘落,在冰中逐渐累积。)表明PFASs通过空气进入北极的冰中逐渐累积,第三句“As the ice melts every summer, the PFASs go into the water, where they enter the food chain.”(每年夏天,当冰融化时,PFASs进入水中,进入食物链。)表明PFASs在夏天通过水进入食物链,第四句“They eventually make their way into the fat that keeps seals warm and from there into the bears that eat them.”(它们最终会进入使海豹保持温暖的脂肪中,并从那里进入吃海豹的熊体内。) 根据最后一段第四句“The bears, so far, seem to be handling the sea ice loss”(到目前为止,北极熊似乎还能应海冰的减少)和最后一句“But I'm sure that's going to change if the speed of ice loss increases sharply in the area.”(但我确信,如果该地区的冰融化速度急剧增加,这种情况就会改变。) 根据第一段“For over a decade, Zubin Kanga, a pianist, composer and technologist, has changed the limits of the forms of musical performances. He has both organized and performed shows that have pushed barriers, with motion sensors, artificial intelligence (AI), live-generated 3D visuals and virtual reality among the technological advancements used to unlock new possibilities of music and performances. (十多年来,钢琴家、作曲家和技术专家祖宾·坎加改变了音乐表演形式的极限。他组织和表演了突破障碍的表演,其中包括运动传感器、人工智能(AI)、现场生成的3D视觉和虚拟现实,这些技术进步被用来释放音乐和音乐的新可能性表演)”可知技术进步为音乐和表演带来新的表演形式,故选B。 38.推理判断题。根据第二段的““The piano is a very accurate technology,” he says. “From the early 20th century till now it hasn’t really changed at all. 29.What is the special about TCM products? 二次开发: 1 bay n. 海湾,山间平地 2 offshore adj. 离岸的,近海的 3 melt v. 融化,熔化 4 eventually adv. 最终 近义词: ultimately 5 food chain 食物链 6 degrade v. 降解 7 poisonous adj. 有毒的 poison n./v. 毒药,下毒 阅读 3 For over a decade, Zubin Kanga, a pianist, composer and technologist, has changed the limits of the forms of musical performances.
