It is reported that rail industry employers are planning to phase out paper train tickets and shut almost 1,000 station ticket offices in England. The authorities say nothing has been decided. But the transport secretary, Grant Shapps, points out some stations sell only a handful of tickets each week and the vast majority of deals have moved online.
Regardless of the outcome of the plan, the direction of travel is clear. In the name of modernization and expense-cutting, station ticket offices are likely to follow countless high street bank branches and rural post offices into memory. For those who have grown used to the advantages of organizing travel by smartphone, there will be little to feel sorry. But for people without online access or skills, another small social barrier will emerge. A recent report estimated that around 6% of households — 1.5m homes — have no Internet access. Millions more of us remain irregular and unconfident users of the Internet. Most likely, as digital technology becomes the gatekeeper to everyday life, a significant minority risks being left behind.
Shifting online is unavoidable, but its fallout needs to be managed with more care. Technology should not be allowed to drive people to the side of their own lives, as anecdotal (传闻的) evidence suggests is increasingly the case. Ros Altmann, the former pensions (养老金) minister, recently wrote of being contacted by an elderly woman who no longer drives to her local park, because she cannot download the car parking app required.
The debate over ticket offices offers an opportunity to reflect more broadly on the increasing role of technology in our social landscape. Clearly, much more needs to be invested in helping marginalized (边缘化的) groups acquire easy online access. Alternative offline options must be maintained for important services. Contactable telephone numbers and staffed public access points should always be available. This will need more expense. But that is the price of being fair to those who find themselves on the wrong side of the digital divide.
21. What forces the rail industry to phase out paper train tickets?
A. Costs of internet access.
B. Closure of station ticket offices.
C. Sharp decline of offline business.
D. People’s efforts to digitize the industry.
22. Which of the following might fall victim to the plan?
A. Rural post offices. B. Irregular Internet users.
C. Unconfident households. D. High Street bank branches.
23. What does the author suggest in the last paragraph?
A. Taking the digital divide fairly. B. Slowing down the modernization.
C. Investing more in public transport. D. Maintaining a diversity of service.

When thinking about placing a human being in space, one of the most important questions was how to design special clothing needed to protect a person from the dangers of the space environment. The cold of space will freeze skin in a short time. The fierce heat of the sun can cause serious burns. The lack of atmosphere can cause gases in the body to expand (扩大) and even burst. With no oxygen to breathe, a human being will die in only a few moments. Radiation from the sun is another risk in space. So is damage from small pieces of rock and objects like meteoroids (陨石).
In 1933, an American flyer, Wiley Post, designed one of the first successful devices to protect a pilot at extreme heights. It was a large device that looked like a can surrounded the pilot’s head. Astronauts in the American space agency (NASA) flew the first American space flights in the early 1960s. The clothing was similar to that invented by Wiley Post.
Today, astronauts wear very different protective clothing. It lets them move, do useful tasks, and stay outside their spacecraft in comfort and safety for several hours. The spacesuit is called the shuttle extravehicular mobility unit or EMU. It was designed to endure longer and to permit more movement than earlier spacesuits.
The EMU has a number of parts that an astronaut can link together by using only one hand, which makes it possible for each astronaut to select the parts that fit correctly.
Nowadays, NASA scientists are also considering the kind of spacesuits that would be needed for exploration on the planet Mars. Because of the gravity on Mars, spacesuits may have to be designed to be lighter than suits used in orbit or on the moon. The equipment may also have to protect astronauts from dust carried in the winds on Mars. And, they must be easy to repair and keep clean during a longer flight to and from the red planet.
24. Which of the following is NOT mentioned about the dangers of space environment?
A. Lack of oxygen. B. Fierce heat from the sun.
C. Gases in the body. D. Radiation from the sun.
25. Which of the following statements is true, according to this passage?
A. Wiley Post designed the first protective clothing for astronauts.
B. Astronauts in earlier spacesuits had difficulty in moving, doing useful tasks and so on.
C. EMU has many parts that can be linked together by using two hands.
D. Special spacesuits have been used for exploration of the planet Mars.
26. The underlined word “endure” means _______.
A. provide B. move C. last D. live
27. The best title of the passage might be ______.
A. Space exploration
B. Astronauts’ flights
C. The Advantages of Spacesuits
D. The Development of Spacesuits

Life today is much easier than it was hundreds of years ago, but it has brought new problems. One of the biggest problems is pollution. Pollution comes in many ways. We see it, smell it, drink it and even hear it.
Men have been polluting the earth. Many years ago, the pollution was not so serious because there were not so many people. When the land was used up or the river was dirty in one place, men moved to another place.
Air pollution is now the most serious. Air makes people sick. And lots of people now are trying to use something to clear the air. Water pollution kills our fish and pollutes our drinking water. Noise pollution makes us become angry more easily.
Many countries are making rules to fight air pollution. They stop people from burning coal in houses and factories in the city, and from putting dirty smoke into the air.
Pollution by SO₂ is now the most dangerous kind of air pollution. It is caused by heavy traffic. It is true that if there are fewer people driving, there will be less air pollution.
Although most of the pollution is caused by us, we are the ones who can change the situation. The earth is our home. We must take care of it. And we must pay more attention to the information on pollution at the same time.
28. Why was pollution less serious many years ago?
A. People were more careful. B. There were fewer people.
C. Pollution laws were stricter. D. People moved to other planets.
29. According to the text, what harm does water pollution cause?
A. It makes us become angry more easily.
B. It creates dirty smoke and makes people sick.
C. It destroys fish and makes our drinking water dirty.
D. It causes the most dangerous SO₂ air pollution.
30. What can we infer (推断) from the text about solving air pollution?
A. Using more coal can reduce it. B. Fewer cars on the road can cut it.
C. Only governments can solve it. D. It is not serious and needs no attention.
31. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Pollution is a serious problem to solve. B. Pollution is not as bad as people think.
C. Pollution is only caused by heavy traffic. D. Pollution is getting better over time.

On a rainy day in 2006, 19-year-old Chinese motorcycle mechanic Zhang Xue rode 100 kilometers on muddy mountain roads to seek a chance to join a professional racing team. Teased by others and injured in a crash, he never abandoned his dream. Twenty years of persistent struggle finally paid off. In 2026, his motorcycle brand ZXMOTO secured a historic breakthrough at the Superbike World Championship (WSBK), winning both races in the WorldSSP (Supersport) class at the Portugal round on March 28 and 29. This marked the first time a Chinese-made motorcycle has claimed victory in a top-tier international competition, ending decades of dominance (支配地位) by European, American and Japanese brands in the category.
Born in a poor and broken family in Huaihua, Hunan province, Zhang dropped out of school at 14 and worked as a repair apprentice. Years of hands-on work enabled him to master motorcycle structures thoroughly and spot design weaknesses accurately. He also amazed others with his extraordinary skills, such as blindfolded engine reassembly. In 2013, he moved to Chongqing with only 20,000 yuan to pursue his dream.
His entrepreneurial (创业的) journey was full of hardships. He suffered long-term financial pressure, borrowing huge sums to sustain his business. Due to disagreements over independent engine research, he left his co-founded company in 2024 and set up ZXMOTO. Facing a severe salary crisis in 2025, he raised money from all sides to save the firm. Through relentless testing, he eventually broke barriers, making the core engine development possible.
Featuring lightweight design and superior performance, ZXMOTO’s bikes greatly promoted Chinese motorcycle sales and global reputation. Zhang owes his success to persistent efforts and clear goals. He plans to compete in more top races and fund young domestic riders, determined to lift the global influence of Chinese motorcycle brands with continuous innovation and perseverance. When asked what he would tell his 19-year-old self, Zhang’s eyes glistened: “Just keep doing what you want to do.” He believes clear goals and strong determination can make the impossible possible, encouraging young people to pursue their dreams and keep fighting bravely.
32. What is the significance of the victory of ZXMOTO in 2026?

He started Urban Forest. The group plants native trees in cities in Pakistan. Since 2015, Qureshi and his team have helped cool the air by planting 14 urban forests in Pakistan. Twelve are in Karachi. The trees also provide a habitat for a variety of animals and food for the community. And they create a shady spot where people can relax. In 2017, Qureshi helped plant an urban forest at Karachi Grammar School. First, he met with students there. He taught them about how trees help the environment. Then the students pitched in. They helped plant saplings in the schoolyard. “They were excited about the project,” Muneeza Shaikhli says. She’s a principal at Karachi Grammar School. “They themselves had been experiencing the high temperatures in the summer months.” The trees attract birds and colorful butterflies. Students go outside during science class to study the forest. “It’s like a library of native trees in front of the kids,” Qureshi says. “They can identify the native species and insects that are around. It’s a beautiful thing to see.”

W: We’re testing new tech to find plastic in the ocean.
M: That sounds great. With all the pollution lately, we really need it.
W: Yes. 80% of ocean waste is plastic.
M: That’s shocking.
W: It is especially bad in the Pacific Ocean. Huge amounts of garbage float there.
M: How does your system work?
W: We fly a special system over water.
M: Don’t we already use those?
W: Yes, but ours are better. Old ones see trash the size of a table. Ours can see a bottle as small as a hand.
M: Will that help clean it up?
W: Yes. It tells the cleaning ships exactly where to go.
M: I hope you succeed.
W: I just want to save the sea life. Fish are eating the plastic.
M: I know. We often forget about the creatures underwater.
W: Exactly. If we don’t act now, it will only get worse.
M: Hope your tech makes a real difference.

C 22. B 23. D
根据第一段“But the transport secretary, Grant Shapps, points out some stations sell only a handful of tickets each week and the vast majority of deals have moved online.(但英国交通大臣格兰特・沙普斯指出,部分车站每周仅售出寥寥几张纸质车票,绝大多数票务交易都已转移至线上完成。)”
根据第二段“But for people without online access or skills... Millions more of us remain irregular and unconfident users of the Internet.(但对于没有网络使用渠道、或是没有掌握线上操作技能的人群而言……还有数百万人使用互联网时并不频繁,也缺乏操作自信。)”可知,不规则和不自信的互联网用户将面临社会障碍,成为受害者。
【23题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段“Alternative offline options must be maintained for important services. Contactable telephone numbers and staffed public access points should always be available.(针对重要公共服务,必须保留线下替代办理渠道。可接通的咨询电话、配备工作人员的线下服务点应当持续对外开放。)”可知,作者建议保留替代性的线下服务选项,即保持服务的多样性。

C 25. B 26. C 27. D
根据首段中“The cold of space will freeze skin in a short time. The fierce heat of the sun can cause serious burns. The lack of atmosphere can cause gases in the body to expand (扩大) and even burst. With no oxygen to breathe, a human being will die in only a few moments. Radiation from the sun is another risk in space. (太空的寒冷会在短时间内冻住皮肤。太阳的强烈热量会造成严重灼伤。没有大气会导致体内气体膨胀甚至爆裂。没有可供呼吸的氧气,人类几分钟内就会死亡。来自太阳的辐射是太空的另一个风险。)”可知,文中提到的危险包括寒冷、缺氧、太阳的高温、太阳辐射,体内气体本身不是危险,是无大气导致体内气体膨胀才属于危险。故选C。
【25题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段中“It was a large device that looked like a can surrounded the pilot’s head. Astronauts in the American space agency (NASA) flew the first American space flights in the early 1960s. The clothing was similar to that invented by Wiley Post.(这是一个巨大的装置,看起来像一个罐头包围着飞行员的头部。20世纪60年代初,美国航天局(NASA)的宇航员进行了美国第一次太空飞行。这种衣服和威利·波斯特发明的衣服很相似。)”可知,首次太空之旅所用的防护服与Wiley Post发明的装置相似,说明不是Wiley Post发明了第一代防护服,排除A;根据第四段“The EMU has a number of parts that an astronaut can link together by using only one hand(EMU有很多部件,宇航员只用一只手就能把它们连接起来)”可知,宇航员用一只手就可以很方便地操作EMU,排除C;根据第五段“Nowadays, NASA scientists are also considering the kind of spacesuits that would be needed for exploration on the planet Mars(如今,美国宇航局的科学家们也在考虑探索火星所需的宇航服)”可知,特制的太空服尚未用于火星探索,排除D;根据第三段“Today, astronauts wear very different protective clothing. It lets them move, do useful tasks, and stay outside their spacecraft in comfort and safety for several hours.(今天,宇航员穿着非常不同的防护服。它可以让他们移动,做一些有用的任务,并在他们的航天器外舒适安全地呆上几个小时。)”可知,以前的太空服不能让宇航员行动自如,也不便于执行任务,而现在的太空服能够做到这些,故选B。
【26题详解】
词句猜测题。根据划线词所在句“It was designed to endure longer and to permit more movement than earlier spacesuits.(它被设计成比早期的宇航服endure更长时间和允许更多的运动。)”以及上文“Today, astronauts wear very different protective clothing. It lets them move, do useful tasks, and stay outside their spacecraft in comfort and safety for several hours.(今天,宇航员穿着非常不同的防护服。

I am a student from Class 1, Grade 1. I am writing to give some suggestions about protecting our school environment.
Walking around campus, I notice two serious problems. For one thing, plastic rubbish is scattered everywhere. For another, water and electricity are often wasted, with lights left on and taps left running. Thus, I have two suggestions. I hope we can build a greener campus where small efforts count.

Poor Jack lost his sight at the age of six after a car accident. He was cornered in his dark world. An already terrible life now looked completely hopeless. His mother tried to encourage him, but nothing she said could help him at all.
Later Jack did nothing but lie in bed, sighing all day. His mother felt miserable, telling him to live with his disability, work hard and change his life on his own. She said, “Son, since you have lost your sight and nothing can change that, you have to accept it. There are things you can’t do. But there are lots of things you can do. You have a creative mind. Find something you enjoy and stick with it, no matter what.”
The future didn’t seem too bright for a blind child from the countryside. But as this young boy thought about his mother’s words, about what he really wanted to do with his life, he dreamed of becoming a star. So as a child, he would practice playing the piano and singing each day from then on.
Once one of his classmates heard him practicing at school and told him, “You can’t play the piano, and you can’t sing either. These things are meaningless for you. You are doomed to be a loser.”

Possible version:
That classmate’s comment was like a sharp knife, cutting Jack’s heart into pieces. For several days, he was in low spirits. “Should I give my dream up or stick to it?” he thought. All these days, his mother’s words lingered in his mind. “Nothing can get in the way of my dreams,” said the determined boy. From then on, he was determined to become a star and remained focused on his goal. Hard as it was, he was willing to accept the challenge and make more efforts. Finally his hard work paid off.
In his life, he received countless awards for his music. His excellent musical style has had a lasting effect on all forms of popular music in the past ten years. The people who had looked down upon him before felt extremely surprised. When asked how he made it, he owed it to his mother. It was his mother’s words that encouraged him in those confusing days. He wouldn’t listen to the negative words in his life and refused to stop. Determination and optimism are what it takes to overcome his weakness and accomplish his goal.
