B At 17 years old, most are still learning basic driving skills in America. Once the car is parked, the day is packed with school activities and hanging out with friends. But at 17, Maggie Taraska had a distinctive goal in mind: Fly alone across the United States. Both of Maggie’s parents were retired from the air force, so the urge to fly is in Maggie’s blood. She went to flight school, put in the hours with an instructor and started on her training hours. But on her first takeoff, something didn’t sound right. The plane had lost one of the landing gear wheels. “As soon as I took off, I just heard something was wrong instinctively,” said Maggie. Her instructor talked to her from the ground while she circled a few times to gather herself. “I was frightened, thinking about all the bad things that could have happened; I was thinking about how my parents were on the ground as I knew they were watching.” Stress and panic can cause any of us to make careless decisions. It takes mental practice to calm down. “Take a few breaths, focus on the moment and follow the plan. I panicked a bit, but followed my training.” Maggie was a little shaky as she talked to the tower, but she had a perfect belly landing that skidded on the infield grass. Her father couldn’t be prouder. “By the time I saw Maggie on her approach, it was a better approach than I could have flown,” he said. Cheers erupted in the tower, and Maggie took a deep breath and climbed out of the plane. Credit does go to the crew for talking to her. Yes, we all need someone to talk us through challenging times, but in the end, it was all Maggie at the controls. We could all be forgiven for calling it quits after an experience like that. After all, it was a bit distressing. So walking away would be understandable. But five days later, Maggie was going through her pre-flight safety inspections, checking the wings, especially checking the landing gear. “It feels amazing,” she said, “It gives an incredible sense of liberation.” At some point in our lives, we will all be in a situation for the first time. It’s scary. But if you face your fears, the whole world opens up to you. 24. Maggie’s urge to fly alone was mainly influenced by ________. A. her parents’ background in air force. B. her experience of school activities. C. her instructor’s encouragements. D. her basic driving skills. 25. When Maggie heard something wrong during takeoff, she ________. A. landed the plane immediately. B. thought of her parents’ expectation. C. circled a few times to calm herself down. D. continued flying as if nothing had happened. 26. Which words would best describe Maggie’s personality? A. Proud and intelligent. B. Positive and cautious. C. Patient and responsible. D. Fearless and determined. 27. What can we learn from the passage? A. Failure is the mother of success. B. A good beginning is half done. C. Fortune favors the brave. D. Practice makes perfect. C In a new study published in the British Journal of Health Psychology, researchers from the Universities of Bath and Southampton have revealed how just 10 minutes of daily mindfulness (正念) practice can improve wellbeing, ease depression and anxiety and help people to be more motivated to improve their lifestyle — including healthier exercise, eating and sleeping habits. The research recruited 1,247 adults from 91 countries and used a free mobile app called Medito to deliver brief daily mindfulness sessions. Participants were randomly allocated to either a month-long mindfulness routine or a control group that listened to excerpts (节选) from “Alice in Wonderland”. The mindfulness sessions included relaxation exercises, intention-setting, body scans, breath-focused attention and self-reflection. Surveys conducted before and after the 30-day training period revealed substantial improvements in the mindfulness group: Reduced Depression by 19.2% more than control group; Improved Wellbeing by 6.9% more; Decreased Anxiety by 12.6% more; Attitudes to Health got more positive by 7.1% over control group; Behavioural Intentions to look after health increased by 6.5% beyond control group. These benefits were largely maintained after 30 days. In follow-up surveys one month later (Day 61), the mindfulness group showed long-term improvements in their wellbeing, notably a reduction in depression, more positive attitudes and even better sleep. This research is among the first to link mindfulness practice to broader lifestyle changes, underscoring its potential for promoting healthier living habits like exercising regularly. Masha Remskar, the lead researcher and an expert in behavior change, emphasized that even short daily mindfulness practice can be a powerful tool for mental health improvement. Dr. Max Western from the University of Bath stressed the potential global impact of a light-touch, affordable mindfulness treatment on healthy lifestyle behaviors, noting its benefits still lasted after the course ended, indicating that it can help build sustainable habits. The study was supported by the UKRI Economic and Social Research Council and collaborated with the Medito Foundation, a non-profit promoting mindfulness globally through a free app alternative to subscription based services. Medito paved the way for the “30 Day Challenge”, but had no part in data collection, analysis or publication. 28. What can be inferred about daily mindfulness? A. It can cure depression and anxiety. B. It may lead to sustainable benefits. C. Its benefits are limited to stress reduction. D. It is especially effective for severe depression. 29. What does the underlined word “underscoring” in paragraph 4 mean? A. Stressing. B. Ignoring. C. Doubting. D. Transforming. 30. What does the Medito Foundation do in the study? A. Fund the research and collect data. B. Analyse the data and release results. C. Make profits and monitor the process. D. Facilitate the study and spread mindfulness. 31. Which of the following is the best title for the passage? A. The Medito App: Promoting Mindfulness Practice. B. Brief Daily Mindfulness: Big Benefits for Wellbeing. C. Mindfulness vs. Control Group: A Comparative Study. D. Recent Research in Health Psychology: Mindfulness Edition. D Urban agriculture, the practice of farming within the limits of a city, is becoming increasingly popular worldwide and is considered a way to make cities and urban food systems more sustainable. Despite strong evidence of the social and nutritional benefits of urban agriculture, its carbon footprint remains understudied. Most previously published studies have focused on high-tech, energy-intensive forms of urban agriculture — such as vertical farms and rooftop greenhouses. The new study aimed to fill some of the knowledge gaps by comparing the carbon footprints of food produced at low-tech urban agriculture sites to conventional crops. The researchers calculated the greenhouse gas emissions associated with on-farm materials and activities over the lifetime of the farm. The emissions, expressed in kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalents (当量;等同物) per serving of food, were then compared to foods raised by conventional methods. Farmers and gardeners at urban agriculture sites across the world were employed to use daily diary entries to take down inputs — the materials used to construct farms and cultivate crops — and harvests from their food-growing sites throughout the 2025 season. “By assessing actual inputs and outputs on urban agriculture sites, we were able to determine climate change impacts to each serving of produce,” says study co-lead author Benjamin Goldstein, assistant professor in the School for Environment and Sustainability. On average, food produced through urban agriculture released 0.42 kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalents per serving, six times higher than the 0.07 kg CO2 per serving of conventionally grown produce. It’s also found that most of the climate impacts at urban farms are driven by the infrastructure (基础设施), such as the raised beds in which food is grown, or pathways between plots. “These farms typically only operate for a few years, so the greenhouse gases used to produce those materials are not used effectively. Conventional agriculture, instead, is very efficient and hard to compete with”, Goldstein says. For example, conventional farms often grow a single crop with the help of pesticides and fertilizers, resulting in larger harvests and a reduced carbon footprint when compared to urban farms, he says. 32. What is a benefit of urban agriculture? A. Sustainable food supply. B. High food output. C. Effective energy conservation. D. Low carbon footprint. 33. How is the research data collected? A. By accessing online database. B. By examining previous studies. C. By conducting personal interviews. D. By recording information every day. 34. What could be done to reduce carbon footprint according to Goldstein? A. Increase varieties of crops. B. Extend infrastructure lifetimes. C. Promote rooftop greenhouses. D. Use modern agriculture facilities. 35. What is the passage mainly about? A. The benefits of traditional crops. B. The popularity of urban agriculture. C. The strategies to fight global warming. D. The carbon footprint of urban farm produce. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 In a corner of our campus lies a small reading room whose significance goes far beyond its size. During my high school years, it became the silent witness to my growth, and Ms. Li, the librarian, lit up my path. I still remember the first time I walked into the reading room during my freshman year. 36 Burdened by academic pressure and future uncertainties, I saw the place merely as a source of reference books. “I need the physics exercise collection,” I would murmur without even looking up. Ms. Li would always respond with a warm “Right away.” Her voice carried a unique warmth that somehow eased my tension. 37 Sitting in the reading room, I was on the edge of tears. Ms. Li approached, placing a cup of warm tea beside me. “Rough day? Let me find you something inspiring to read,” she said gently. She returned with a biography of a scientist who had overcome numerous failures. “Remember, difficult times don’t last, but tough people do.” That simple gesture and those words became my comfort. From then on, I observed this ordinary yet extraordinary woman: She arrived before sunrise, her simple uniform always neat, her smile genuine. 38 “I know students need encouragement during stressful times,” she once explained. Her dedication to serving others and doing ordinary work extraordinarily changed my perspective. In my overwhelming senior year, I returned to the reading room not just for books, but for strength. 39 “You can do it, Lin!” or “Believe in yourself!” These small gestures often gave me the courage to face another day. What Ms. Li taught me surpasses textbook knowledge. She showed me how ordinary positions can create extraordinary value through love and dedication. 40 Most importantly, she helped me understand growth isn’t just about academic success, but about facing life with warmth and resilience. I’d often tie his shoes or prepare another glass of water for him. My mom saw my larger size and strong body as a sign that I was to be a kind of guardian angel (守护天使) for Brian. However, that was not the case. One day our school sponsored a pumpkin-carving contest. First prize was $100, and I knew just how I would spend it. There was a brand-new game I was dying to own. So I decided the first place bonus definitely had to land in my pocket. When I had to carve the perfect pumpkin I’d picked out, it dawned on me that with my big clumsy fingers I’d surely screw it up (搞砸). I thought of Brian’s smaller, delicate hands and knew he was the man for the job. I immediately begged Brian. Unexpectedly, he asked for a cut. That was fifty-fifty. Quickly doing the math in my head, I figured out even if I split (分摊) the first prize, I’d still have enough cash for the game. So I gave in to Brian’s demands. With skillful hands Brian carved the perfect face, and now we had the best pumpkin ever. Then the unexpected happened: We came in second. Unfortunately, second prize was only $50, and I needed every penny of that to buy the game. The day of the awards ceremony, the principal handed over the money to me because Brian was home, sick with cold. If he really wanted to win, he would have been here today, I thought to myself, justifying stealing the cash from under poor Brian’s runny nose. With hardly a thought, I ran to the store and bought my dream game. That night when Brian asked if we had won, I denied, afraid to look into his eyes. The whole thing was never mentioned again until the day when Brian was packing for college. I played my usual role in helping him pack when I came across an old album filled with photos of our school life. 注意: (1)续写词数应为150左右; (2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1: I was enjoying the photos when one caught my eye. _______________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: “You actually knew and didn’t say anything?” I was shocked. ______________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
