【原文】 M: Good morning! Here’s some information about health insurance. Health care and health insurance are important during your stay at Harvard. It is crucial that you learn about the differences between the medical care system in your own country and that in the United States. Arranging paying for medical care is your responsibility. The best way to meet this responsibility is to get health insurance coverage to protect you against high cost. Access to health insurance depends on your connection with the University. Requirements for health insurance also vary. American law requires that any full-time and part-time student registered in an institution of high learning in America must participate in a student health insurance program or in a health plan of comparable coverage. Therefore, all Harvard University students are automatically registered in the Harvard University Health Plan unless they can show that they have similar health insurance coverage on their own. International scholars are not required to purchase the Harvard health insurance plan.

Customers would feel right at home as Chili's recently expanded (扩展的) application of Rita the robot to 51 restaurants, on top of the 10 in which the technology was already being tested. Rita, created by Bear Robotics, can act as a sort of server, guiding guests to their tables, carrying food, bussing, even singing “Happy Birthday”.
And while this type of automation is quickly expanding throughout the restaurant industry due to historic labor shortages (劳动力短缺), Wade Allen, Senior Vice President of Innovation at parent company Brinker International, said Rita's pilot wasn't performed because of the “economic situation”.
Chili's expansion signals the chain's confidence in Rita's early performance, particularly in utilization (使用) and error rates. Allen said Rita produced “great utilization rates”, based on whether employees were using — and engaging with — the technology. Adding seemingly unuseful functionalities such as “singing” provides more opportunities and higher utilization rates that are above 30%. On the error side, Allen said Rita functions without a problem over 99% of the time.
However, such technology could be seen as bells and whistles to customers. And, indeed, there is a risk here as most customers have said they prefer to communicate with staff even as this type of guest-facing technology increases.
Allen said the company hasn't looked deep to see if Rita translates to labor savings. The company also doesn't know whether Rita's presence has affected servers' tips, stating, “We hope to learn more as Rita expands.”
“My goal is not to take people out of the hospitality industry (服务业); people are what make this industry. My goal is to make our employees' jobs easier, and I absolutely think robotics is a service evolution (演进). The future is a world where we still have amazing hospitality, but we can simplify and automate some of the difficult and unnecessary tasks,” Allen said. “We know Rita adds value. We're not toying with this. Our intention is to go broader.”
24. What do we know about Rita the robot?
A. It reduces servers' tips.
B. It shakes up the job market.
C. It increases labor costs in restaurants.
D. It is skilled in the food service industry.
25. What is a reason Rita made the chain feel confident?
A. It made a big profit for owners.
B. It won the favor of employees.
C. It expanded rapidly worldwide.
D. It was equipped with unique functions.
26. What does the underlined part “bells and whistles” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. Attractive but unnecessary things.
B. Small but critical tools.
C. Practical ideas.
D. Strategic plans.
C
Artificial intelligence (AI) may be the biggest winner of this year’s Nobel Prize. AI pioneers were recognized with the Nobel Prize in physics, while the Nobel Prize in chemistry also had AI-related contributions.
US scientist John Hopfield and British-Canadian Geoffrey Hinton won the 2024 Nobel Prize in physics for discoveries and inventions in machine learning that paved the way for the AI boom, according to Reuters.
In 1982, Hopfield created a network that helps computers store and recall patterns, similar to how our brains remember things. A year later, Hinton developed the Boltzmann machine, which allows computers to learn independently to recognize patterns in data, such as identifying specific objects in images.
As for the Nobel Prize in chemistry, US scientists David Baker and John Jumper, along with British computer scientist Demis Hassabis, won the prize. Half the prize was awarded to Baker “for computational protein design” while the other half was shared by Jumper and Hassabis for their development of the AI model AlphaFold2.
Scientists struggled for decades to predict how proteins fold into their 3D shapes that determine their function. However, AlphaFold2, developed by AI research laboratory DeepMind, can accurately predict the 3D structures of nearly all known proteins, showing great potential in the field of drug development.
“AI can be a powerful tool for solving problems that involve deriving (获得) outputs from inputs, showing its great potential in scientific research,” Professor Yang Maojun from Tsinghua University told Science and Technology Daily.
In his view, AI applications are not limited to fields like biology, chemistry or physics. Their scope mainly depends on how well problems from the real world can be abstracted into a form that AI can learn and process, and whether there is sufficient real-world data to train and build deep learning networks.
AI’s importance in scientific research is increasingly evident (明显的). Yang believes that scientists should actively embrace this trend while remaining aware of AI’s limitations. Hinton expressed a similar concern at the Nobel press conference. “We also have to worry about a number of possible bad consequences, particularly the threat of these things getting out of control,” he said “Humans carry the responsibility for using this new technology in a safe and ethical way, for the greatest benefit of humankind,” said Ellen Moons, chair of the Nobel Committee for Physics.
27. What was John Hopfield recognized for in the 2024 Nobel Prize in Physics?
A. Inventing the Boltzmann machine. B. Creating AI models for image analysis.
C. Developing a network for pattern storage. D. Designing a new type of computer processor.
28. What is the significance of AlphaFold2?
A. It can synthesize (合成) new proteins for drug use.
B. It can forecast protein folding patterns.
C. It can analyze the genetic sequences (顺序) of proteins.
D. It can identify proteins related to diseases
29. According to Yang Maojun, what is one factor that limits the scope of Al applications?
A. The availability of real-world data.
B. The accuracy of AI training data.
C. The level of human involvement in AI learning.
D. The effectiveness of deep learning algorithms (算法)

Whenever you want to show trust, approval or interest, you should turn your head to look at others. 31 . This action is especially effective when negotiating (谈判) or arguing with opponents (对手). In this way, you can show understanding and as a result, make people less resistant.
2. Intensity of eye contact
Keeping eye contact during conversation can both increase your confidence and build belief. 32 . The most suitable amount of intensity of eye contact is around 70% of the conversation. If you always look at someone's eyes, they may think you are hostile (怀有敌意的).
3. Open the palm (手掌) of the hands
People who open their hands are trustworthy. This explains why leaders often show their palms when talking to listeners. 33 .
4. Glove handshake
“Glove handshake” is a handshake using both hands with your left palm placed on the back of the opponent's right hand. This handshake is a sign of warmth, trust, and kindness toward the other person. 34 . The higher your left hand is on the other person's right arm, the closer you are likely to be to them.
