There are now more than 7 billion people in the world, and the number is getting bigger. At the same time, as cities get bigger and bigger, there are fewer farms. With more people and fewer farms, how can we get enough food? Is it possible to grow food in big cities? Many people think so.
You can now find urban farms all over the world. Urban farms are places where people grow food together but these “farms” are in big cities. Sometimes they are on a tall building or in a city park. The Pasona Farm in Tokyo, Japan, grows food inside an office building. They grow more than 200 kinds of vegetables, fruits, and rice. Some of the plants grow on the outside of the building. It looks strange, but it’s a great idea.
A large building in the Hague, the Netherlands, was full of empty offices. Now the building is the home of the Urban Farm De Schilde. This farm grows food on the top of the building, and there is a fish farm at the bottom of the building. The Urban Farm De Schilde is an amazing place. They grow 45 tons of vegetables and raise 19 tons of fish every year. They sell their fresh products and fish to supermarkets and restaurants in their city.
Many schools around the world also have their own gardens and grow their own food. In school gardens, students learn about scientific planting methods while they grow vegetables and fruit. They also learn how to work together. The school then uses the products to feed students in the school. Many students like trying the food that they grow! Starting a farm or a garden is hard work, but it can also help many people. It can be fun, too.
27.How does the writer introduce the topic of the text?
A.By telling a story. B.By raising questions.

A.In a city park. B.On the top of the building.
C.Outside of the building. D.At the bottom of the building.
30.What’s the best title for the text?
A.Farms around the world B.Gardens in many schools

Cave (洞穴) paintings are the oldest pictures. Some of them are almost 30,000 years old. Many of these paintings show animals or hunting scenes (狩猎场景). They do not have written words on them. Sometime between 4,000 and 3,000 BC, the skill of writing was developed in Egypt and Mesopotamia. People cut texts on stones first. But it was impossible to carry stones from place to place. It is the writing system that has developed over thousands of years into today’s hanzi.
People made the first books from papyrus and from thin animal skins. Around 105 AD, paper-making skill was improved after the invention of paper in China. It was published in 868 AD.In the middle of the 15th century, the printing machine was invented in Germany. Since that time, a huge number of books have been printed worldwide.

Jack was not interested in his lessons. He spent most of his time reading stories, doing sports or watching TV. At night, he always went to bed late because of cartoons. In the morning, he usually hurried to school. Sometimes he was so tired that he slept in class. His mother was worried about his schoolwork. She tried to make him work harder. She told him that if he could get a hundred in the exam, he would be given ten dollars as a prize. Jack was very happy to hear that. The next day, he came home very excited. “Oh, Mum.

Cave (洞穴) paintings are the oldest pictures. Some of them are almost 30,000 years old. Many of these paintings show animals or hunting scenes (狩猎场景). They do not have written words on them. But when we look at them, we get an idea of the feelings the people had when drawing them. The paintings tell stories of hopes and fears.
