Can AI chatbots offer reliable diet advice for teenagers? A recent study suggests the answer is negative. Researchers conducted an investigation into AI-generated weight-loss meal plans for adolescents. They input diet-loss requests from fictional 15-year-old users into five widely used free AI chatbots. Afterwards, they compared these AI-produced meal plans with those professionally designed by qualified dietitians
The findings, published in Frontiers in Nutrition, revealed significant risks. Though AI-designed diet plans appear reasonable on the surface, they follow a dangerous nutritional pattern. These plans are extremely low in calories and carbohydrates, yet they advise excessive intake of protein and fat. Statistically, AI meal plans contain roughly 700 fewer calories daily than professional ones, equal to the calorie intake of a full missed meal.
Such unbalanced diet guidance is extremely risky for teenagers. As Betül Bilen, a leading nutrition scientist, puts it, adolescence is a critical stage for physical growth, bone formation and brain development. Severe calorie restriction may disturb these vital developmental processes and increase the possibility of disordered eating.
Furthermore, health professionals state that AI lacks the holistic approach of human experts. Professional dietitians take multiple key factors into account, including teenagers’ medical history, financial budget, family environment and emotional state. However, chatbots fail to automatically analyze these complex variables (变量). Worse still, if AI strengthens teenagers’ unhealthy beliefs about weight loss, it will create greater barriers to clinical (临床的) treatment.
Although digitally skilled teenagers tend to double-check online information instead of following it blindly, the study raises widespread concern. As more adolescents seek life guidance from AI, the line between beneficial technological help and potential health hazards becomes blurred. Further research is required to explore how AI tools affect teenagers’ long-term eating behaviors in real life.
24. How does the author start the passage?
A. By describing a personal experience.
B. By posing a question and answering it.
C. By explaining a common phenomenon.
D. By comparing two different viewpoints.
25. What can we infer from the findings in the study of Frontiers in Nutrition?
A. Low calorie intake benefits teens’ weight loss.
B. AI meal plans may do harm to teenagers’ health.
C. Professional diets are less scientific than AI ones.
D. Teenagers prefer AI chatbots to professional dietitians.
26. What does the underlined word “holistic” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. Comprehensive. B. Creative. C. Accessible. D. Efficient.
27. What is the author’s main purpose of writing the text?
A. To introduce the AI chatbots for diet advice.
B. To compare AI with professional diet guidance.
C. To advocate further AI technology improvement.
D. To warn teenagers of hidden risks of AI diet advice.
B 25. B 26. A 27. D

We’ve all heard that ostriches (鸵鸟) bury their heads in the sand when danger approaches. While untrue for the ostriches, it mirrors a common human behavior called “information avoidance” — the active choice to turn away from the freely available information highly relevant to ourselves. But why do we change from naturally curious children into selective information avoiders?
A 2025 study titled “Becoming an Ostrich” explored this. Researchers had children aged 5 to 10 play a game where researchers designed two candy distribution schemes (方案): equal shares for each, or one large share and one small share. Most children chose the latter and claimed the large share. Then, researchers asked whether they would like to know how many candies were left for their partner. The result was interesting. Younger children showed strong curiosity, actively seeking their partner’s information. The older children, however, increasingly chose to avoid it.
Researchers explained as children grow older, they become more concerned with feeling at ease — even if their actions might not be moral. By avoiding their partner’s information, they tend to keep a sense of fairness, or at least appearing fair. This strategy makes it easier to act in satisfying personal interests without feeling guilty. They note that adults routinely employ the same approach in various real-life situations.
Yet avoidance has long-term costs. Skipping health screenings may ease anxiety now, but can risk serious health issues later. Avoiding tough conversations may prevent short term conflict, but will likely trap people in unsatisfying relationships. “By repeatedly avoiding opposing views,” researchers warn, “we build avoidance habits that can harden into rigid thinking patterns over time.”
It’s no wonder researchers refer to this as a fundamental human contradiction: we start out in life as curious explorers, eager as possible to absorb whatever knowledge we can. Yet, somewhere along the way, we learn to stick our heads in the sand like an ostrich. This comfortable escape, nevertheless, can shape our choices and determine how our lives unfold. Recognizing this is the first step toward reclaiming the courageous curiosity that defines our earliest years.
32. How does the author introduce “information avoidance” in Paragraph 1?
A. By using a metaphor. B. By offering statistics.
C. By showing an argument. D. By giving an example.
33. Why did the older children avoid their partner’s information?
A. To maintain a nice self-image.
B. To safeguard others’ interests.
C. To sustain their sense of guilt.
D. To obey the rules of the game.
34. What is Paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. The consequences of avoidance actions.
B. The ways of forming thinking patterns.
C. The reasons of ignoring opposing views.
D. The health costs of our avoidance habits.
35. What can be a suitable title of the text?
A. Does avoidance bring true happiness?
B. Should we bury our heads like an ostrich?
C. Can we shape our childhood curiosity?
D. Is avoidance a path to greater curiosity?
A 33. A 34. A 35. B

根据最后一段“It’s no wonder researchers refer to this as a fundamental human contradiction: we start out in life as curious explorers, eager as possible to absorb whatever knowledge we can. Yet, somewhere along the way, we learn to stick our heads in the sand like an ostrich. This comfortable escape, nevertheless, can shape our choices and determine how our lives unfold. Recognizing this is the first step toward reclaiming the courageous curiosity that defines our earliest years.(难怪研究人员称这是一个基本的人类矛盾:我们一开始是好奇的探索者,尽可能急切地吸收任何我们能吸收的知识。然而,在人生的某个阶段,我们学会了像鸵鸟一样把头埋进沙子里。然而,这种舒适的逃避可以塑造我们的选择,决定我们生活的展开方式。认识到这一点是重新找回定义我们早年勇敢好奇心的第一步)”以及全文内容可知,文章主要探讨了人们为何会像鸵鸟一样回避信息,以及这种行为带来的后果,最后呼吁人们不要像鸵鸟一样回避信息,要勇敢面对。B项“Should we bury our heads like an ostrich?(我们应该像鸵鸟一样埋头吗?)”

根据上文“Need a break between classes or just a quick pick-me-up in the morning? The College Cafe has just that, and more. (课间需要休息或早上快速提神?大学咖啡馆提供这些,还有更多。)”可知,开篇引出咖啡馆的功能,空格处需揭示“更多”的内涵。E选项“Not only does this cafe serve up drinks, it also serves up smiles. (这家咖啡馆不仅提供饮品,还提供微笑。)”通过“Not only...also...”
根据上文“She goes back and forth between machines to make the drinks. (她在机器之间来回制作饮品。)”及下文“As the customer grabs the drink from her hand, she smiles and says, “Hello, how is your day?” Even when the line is getting longer, she doesn’t let it get in the way of her genuine conversations. (当顾客从她手中接过饮品时,她微笑着说:“你好,今天过得怎么样?”即使队伍越来越长,她也不会让这影响到她真诚的交流。)”可推知,设空处需补充制作饮品后的环节。D选项“After finishing an order, she calls out the name on the cup. (完成订单后,她会喊出杯子上的名字。)”中的“finishing an order”衔接“make the drinks”,“calls out the name”引出顾客接饮品的场景,形成“制作—叫号—交付”的完整流程。故选D项。
根据上文“Murphy gets up at a quarter to five and drives thirty minutes every day to get to work on time. (墨菲每天四点四十五起床,开车三十分钟准时上班。)”及下文“I do so because I like to make coffee for the students. (我这样做是因为我喜欢为学生煮咖啡。)”可推知,设空处需进一步体现她对工作的投入。C选项“Sometimes she arrives early to serve the students early. (有时她会提前到达,提前为学生服务。)”中的“arrives early”补充了“准时上班”之外的主动性,“serve the students early”呼应“like to make coffee for the students”,展现其敬业精神。故选C项。
根据上文“Joanna Wright, a senior political science major, loves coffee and goes to the cafe at least six days a week. (乔安娜・赖特是政治学专业的大四学生,她热爱咖啡,每周至少去这家咖啡馆六天。)”及下文““Catherine always has a huge smile on her face, which always puts me in a cheerful mood,” Wright said. (赖特说“凯瑟琳总是笑容满面,这总能让我心情愉快。”)”可推知,设空处需说明她频繁去咖啡馆的原因。F选项“Going to the cafe starts her day off good and gets her ready for class. (去咖啡馆让她一天有个好的开始,并为上课做好准备。)”中的“starts her day off good”解释了“每周去六天”的动机,且“cheerful mood”与墨菲的微笑服务形成因果关系。故选F项。
根据下文“She has every intention of staying and continuing doing what she loves. (她完全打算留下来,继续做自己喜欢的事。)”可推知,设空处需体现她对工作的长期投入。G选项“She has served here for 17 years and can’t imagine working anywhere else. (她已经在这里服务了17年,无法想象在其他地方工作。)”中的“17 years”凸显服务年限之长,“can’t imagine working anywhere else”强化对咖啡馆的情感联结,与“staying”形成直接呼应。故选G项。

六、读后续写(共1小题,共25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I met Gunter on a cold, wet and unforgettable evening in September. I had planned to fly to Vienna and take a bus to Prague for a conference. Due to a big storm, my flight had been delayed by an hour and a half. I touched down in Vienna just 30 minutes before the departure of the last bus to Prague. The moment I got off the plane, I ran like crazy through the airport building and jumped into the first taxi on the rank without a second thought.
That was when I met Gunter. I told him where I was going, but he said he hadn't heard of the bus station. I thought my pronunciation was the problem, so I explained again more slowly, but he still looked confused. When I was about to give up, Gunter fished out his little phone and rang up a friend. After a heated discussion that lasted for what seemed like a century, Gunter put his phone down and started the car.
Finally, with just two minutes to spare we rolled into the bus station. Thankfully, there was a long queue (队列) still waiting to board the bus. Gunter parked the taxi behind the bus, turned around, and looked at me with a big smile on his face. "We made it," he said.
Just then I realised that I had zero cash in my wallet. I flashed him an apologetic smile as I pulled out my Portuguese bankcard. He tried it several times, but the card machine just did not play along. A feeling of helplessness washed over me as I saw the bus queue thinning out.
At this moment, Gunter pointed towards the waiting hall of the bus station. There, at the entrance, was a cash machine. I jumped out of the car, made a mad run for the machine, and popped my card in, only to read the message: "Out of order. Sorry."
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;

I ran back to Gunter and told him the bad news.

Para 1
I ran back to Gunter and told him the bad news. He looked at me in disbelief, asking me what to do. Flashing him another apologetic smile, I begged him for a delayed payment. “If I miss this last bus to Prague, I’ll be late for the conference which is so important that I can’t afford to miss it!” I explained. “May I have your phone number? I will call you and return the money I owe you. I promise I will keep my word or you keep my watch!” I added, handing him my watch as well as my business card. Gunter accepted my business card but rejected my watch. He wrote down his phone number and gave it to me. “Just keep your promise, Sir.” A feeling of gratitude washed over me as I heard his words. Giving him a firm handshake, I jumped out of the car, made a mad run for the bus, and jumped onto it just before its departure.
Para 2
Four days later, when I was back in Vienna, I called Gunter as promised. He picked me up at the bus station where he had dropped me off four days before. Beaming a warm smile at him, I gave him a big hug the moment I saw him. We chatted happily on the way to the airport. I told him that thanks to his generosity and timely help, everything had gone smoothly. When he stopped his taxi outside the airport, I paid him for the “double car ride”, back and forth from the airport to the bus station, together with a generous tip that he turned down. I also gave him an attractive souvenir I had bought at Prague, which he accepted with delight. We became good friends and kept in touch with each other regularly. I felt blessed to have such a warm-hearted friend like Gunter.

Understanding China requires exploring its ancient capitals, the lifeblood of its civilization. These cities, where empires rose and fell and cultures intertwined, shaped China’s enduring identity.
Xi’an: The Eternal Capital
Xi’an, historically known as Chang’an, served as the capital for thirteen dynasties, including the Qin, Western Han, and Tang. As the eastern terminus of the Silk Road, Xi’an blossomed into one of the world’s first truly metropolitan cities. It safeguards the world-renowned Terracotta Army and the well-preserved Ming Dynasty city wall, earning Xi’an the title of a “Living History Museum.”
Luoyang: The Sacred Center
Luoyang, also hosting thirteen dynasties, is revered as the spiritual heartland of Chinese civilization. It flourished as the capital during the Eastern Han Dynasty, the Northern Wei Dynasty, and notably under Empress Wu Zetian, China’s only female emperor. Its profound spiritual significance is carved into the Longmen Grottoes, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The White Horse Temple, traditionally recognized as China’s first Buddhist temple, marks the arrival of Buddhism into Chinese culture.
Nanjing: The Southern Capital of Resilience
Nanjing, meaning “ Southern Capital,” served as the seat of power for ten dynasties, including the early Ming and the Republic of China. Its strategic location made it a recurring choice for establishing regional dominance. The city’s history is a poignant narrative of glory, destruction, and rebirth, embodying the cyclical patterns of Chinese history. Landmarks like the grand Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum, the colossal Ming Dynasty city wall, and the solemn memorials to its tragic past collectively narrate the story of this resilient “City of Memories.”
Beijing: The Imperial Capital
Beijing, the capital of the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, has served as China’s political heart for over 850 years, a role it continues to fulfill today. It is the definite imperial city, home to the world’s largest and best-preserved palace complex, the Forbidden City. The majestic layouts of the Temple of Heaven and the ethereal beauty of the Summer Palace, alongside the imposing Great Wall nearby, reflect the enduring “Mandate of Heaven” philosophy. Evolving from a northern frontier town into a sprawling metropolis, Beijing seamlessly blends ancient imperial grandeur with vibrant modernity.

China’s space technology team has made an important breakthrough in combining AI and space technology. The self developed geographic information platform MerakGIS, created by the Hangzhou Center of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, has built a new intelligent system for space-air information processing. This system has caught wide attention from experts and people in the industry since it was released last month.
This platform creatively combines large language models with agent technology, shifting the traditional “human-computer interaction” mode to a more effective “human-machine cooperation” one. Users can simply input their questions or requirements, and the system intelligently explains complicated satellite pictures, combines diverse spatial (空间的) datasets, and does advanced studies. Now, users can complete satellite image interpretation, space data combining, and smart checking directly by using natural language instructions. This makes it much easier for non-experts to use. Even people with little technical training can use it easily and quickly.
To improve independent innovation, the team has worked together with Zhejiang University and Zhejiang Laboratory on technical research and achievement transformation. They have spent nearly two years solving key problems and testing the system again and again. Their continuous efforts focused on solving the problems of data working well together and making the AI algorithms (算法) better. At present, MerakGIS has been successfully used in the new energy field, providing stable spatial data services and management support for more than 1, 000 solar power stations across the country. It has helped these stations improve their work efficiency by about 30%.
This achievement combines high-precision “aerospace core” with intelligent “AI brain”, expanding the use of space-air information in strategic emerging industries and showing aerospace technology’s value in serving national economy and people’s livelihood. The team says they will keep improving MerakGIS and hope to apply it in more fields like agriculture and environmental protection in the future.
28. What is the primary purpose of creating MerakGIS?
A. To develop new satellites. B. To promote AI technology.
C. To attract worldwide experts. D. To process space-air information.
29. Which is an innovation of the platform?
A. It relies on satellite image analysis. B. It cuts aerospace technology costs.
C. It operates through natural language. D. It replaces human workers entirely.
30. What can be inferred about the platform’s development?
A. It was finished within a month after being released.
B. It relied mainly on overseas labs for core technology.
C. It was tested once and applied immediately nationwide.
D. It took joint work to improve integration and algorithms.
31. Which of the following best describes the future of MerakGIS?
A. Uncertain. B. Profitable. C. Doubtful. D. Promising.

Sorry."
