But none of these ways actually protect us for more than 20 minutes! Now there is a new way to keep mosquitos away from you ever again without using any chemicals at all. What is it all about? It's called the Mosquitron—a new mosquito catcher or killer. It's very easy to control and it can protect your home from all the mosquitos! How does it work? Instead of trying to keep the mosquitos away, it attracts them, then catches them and finally kills them! Basically, it will attract the mosquitos into the Mosquitron, with a completely harmless UV-PT producing light. Next to the UV-PT light is a powerful reverse (反 向的)fan that sucks (吸)the mosquitos through a one-way trapdoor. Once they are trapped in the drying basket« they are dried to death by the fan in 2 minutes. How much does it cost? You'd be surprised to find that you can get it right now for just $89. It might seem expensive at first. However, when you compare it with other products which need regular, expensive repair and don't work for more than 10 minutes, it is pretty cheap. In fact, some products using the same UV technology are priced over $250! to buy a mosquitron? That's very easy. You can only buy it from the supplier's website. 1. Why should we stay away from mosquitos? A. They produce much noise. B. They can spread serious diseases. C. They need a safe environment. D. They can make dangerous chemicals. 2. How does the Mosquitron clear mosquitos? A. By watering them in a basket B. By burying them with hot sand. C. By attracting and killing them. D. By giving off strong and harmful light. 3. Where can we buy a mosquitron according to the text? A. In a computer store. B. In a supermarket. C. In a restaurant. D. On the website. B 2. C 3. 根据文章第三段“Instead of trying to keep the mosquitos away, it attracts them, then catches them and finally kills them!(它不是试图赶走蚊子,而是吸引它们,然后抓住它们,最后杀死它们!)” 根据文章最后一句“You can only buy it from the supplier's website.(你只能从供应商的网站上购买。)” B During the winter break, I found my dad’s old CD player in a drawer that I had never seen before. It reminded me of the three CDs I recently bought from Mostly Books, a second-hand media store on South Street. I knew I could put the player to good use with them. However, I was a naughty kid who broke closet doors and shelves, so my dad was often unwilling to let me borrow his things. I couldn’t decide whether to ask my dad about using the player. “Can you help me with your old CD player? I want to play some CDs,” I finally asked him after walking into his home office that day. Despite my worries, my dad said yes. Growing up, I felt that my dad disagreed with nearly everything I did. I was frightened to take his advice because listening to him felt like going against my own ideas. That day I looked at his office wall and saw a painting and he told me he bought it in the 1990s for a couple thousand dollars. Imagining him buying the artwork challenged my idea of him being too frugal (节俭的) and boring (没有情调的) to spend so much money on art. This new side of my dad encouraged me to finally take the time to look for our similarities. I discovered how similar we really are while fixing the CD player with my dad, which helped me see him as someone I could relate to, instead of someone to avoid. Watching my dad prepare his old CD player for use was my first step toward understanding him. I observed several of his characters that I recognized in myself, like persistence, patience and calmness. Seeing these characters in my dad showed me how similar we are, which lowered the defenses (防御) I built against him, allowing our relationship to heal (愈合). 4. Why couldn’t the author decide whether to ask his dad about using the player at first? A. He had no CDs to play then. B. He feared his dad would say no. C. He figured the CD player was broken. D. He was afraid he’d break the CD player. 5. What was the problem between the author and his father? A. They often had different views. B. They hardly talked to each other. C. They had no similar personalities. D. They were shy to speak for themselves. 6. What did the author most probably realize after knowing about the painting? A. He should challenge his father. B. His father was very good at art. C. His father was a really boring man. D. He might not really know about his father. 7. What happened between the author and his father in the end? A. They often argued with each other. B. They greatly misunderstood each other. C. They got on with each other much better. D. They built great defenses against each other. B 5. A 6. D 7. 根据第二段中“However, I was a naughty kid who broke closet doors and shelves, so my dad was often unwilling to let me borrow his things. I couldn’t decide whether to ask my dad about using the player.(然而,我是一个淘气的孩子,经常打破壁橱的门和架子,所以我爸爸经常不愿意让我借他的东西。我拿不定主意要不要去问爸爸要不要用那台播放器)”可知,作者是一个淘气的孩子,父亲经常不愿意借东西给作者,所以作者犹豫是否要向父亲借用播放器是因为害怕父亲不同意,故选B。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“Growing up, I felt that my dad disagreed with nearly everything I did. I was frightened to take his advice because listening to him felt like going against my own ideas.(从小到大,我觉得父亲几乎不同意我做的每一件事。我不敢接受他的建议,因为听他的话就像是违背了我自己的想法)”可知,作者和父亲之间的问题是他们经常有不同意见,故选A。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段“That day I looked at his office wall and saw a painting and he told me he bought it in the 1990s for a couple thousand dollars. Imagining him buying the artwork challenged my idea of him being too frugal (节俭的) and boring (没有情调的) to spend so much money on art.(那天我在他办公室的墙上看到了一幅画,他告诉我这幅画是他在上世纪90年代花了几千美元买的。想象他会买那幅画让我怀疑对他的看法,我一直以为他太节俭、太无聊了,不会在艺术品上花那么多钱)”可知,作者一直认为父亲节俭、无聊,不会在艺术品上花那么多钱,所以知道父亲花了几千美元买下这幅画后意识到自己可能没有真正了解父亲,故选D。 【7题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段中“Seeing these characters in my dad showed me how similar we are, which lowered the defenses (防御) I built against him , allowing our relationship to heal (愈合).(看到父亲身上的这些品质,我发现我们是多么相似,这降低了我对他的防御,让我们的关系得以愈合)”可知,最后作者和父亲关系得以愈合,相处的更好,故选D。 C The characteristic (特征) of shyness is to feel frightened and nervous in new social situations or when being the center of attention. Whether shyness is part of your children’s personality or just something they feel when they are in front of a group of strangers, it is a common experience, according to a study. For children at this age, shyness may be a quite common and normal experience when they face a speech task. For a smaller group of shy children, however, being the center of attention may be stressful at different times and environments. A shy temperament isn’t always valued by society like an outgoing personality, but that doesn’t mean there is something wrong. Everyone can feel shy at times depending on the environment. And those who are particularly shy often have happy social lives—they just aren’t likely to be the liveliest people in a crowded room. Although shyness itself may not necessarily be a problem, parents should pay attention to signs of worry, particularly in their shy children. Importantly, however, we know that not all shy children are the same, and that many shy children grow up to be well-balanced adults. To look at shyness, researchers brought 152 children aged 7-8 into a lab and told them they would give a speech, which would be filmed and shown to other children. The study showed that about 10% of the children showed a level of stress over time when giving the speech. About 25% of the children were not reported to be shy in the eyes of their parents, but in fact showed a level of social stress from giving the speech. This finding provides the fact that shyness may be a part of these children’s temperament (性情). 8. What can we learn from paragraph 1? A. Shyness is not an unusual characteristic. B. Shyness is born with personality. C. Shyness will appear when one is in public. D. Shyness means not communicating with others. 9. What is the finding of the study? A. Few kids like to give a speech to others. B. Some kids can get shy while giving speeches. C. Some kids appear less shy with their parents. D. Some kids are stressed when being separated. 10. What does the author advise parents to do when facing shy children? A. Bring them to crowded space. B. Care for them and give them confidence. C. Keep them away from shyness. D. Let them be alone. 11. What can be the best title for the text? A. When are people shy? B. Ways of beating shyness C. Why is shyness a bad thing? D. The discoveries about shyness 【答案】8. A 9. B 10. B 11. 根据第一段“Whether shyness is part of your children’s personality or just something they feel when they are in front of a group of strangers, it is a common experience, according to a study. (一项研究表明,无论害羞是孩子性格的一部分,还是他们在一群陌生人面前的感觉,这都是一种常见的经历。)”可知,害羞并不是一个不寻常的特征。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第五段“The study showed that about 10% of the children showed a level of stress over time when giving the speech. About 25% of the children were not reported to be shy in the eyes of their parents, but in fact showed a level of social stress from giving the speech. (研究表明,随着时间的推移,大约10%的孩子在演讲时表现出一定程度的压力。据报道,大约25%的孩子在父母眼中并不害羞,但事实上,他们在演讲时表现出一定程度的社会压力。)”可知,这项研究的发现是部分孩子演讲的时候会感到害羞紧张。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“Although shyness itself may not necessarily be a problem, parents should pay attention to signs of worry, particularly in their shy children. (虽然害羞本身不一定是一个问题,但父母应该注意焦虑的迹象,尤其是他们害羞的孩子。)”可知,当面对害羞的孩子时,父母应该关心他们,给他们信心。 【11题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段“Whether shyness is part of your children’s personality or just something they feel when they are in front of a group of strangers, it is a common experience, according to a study. (一项研究表明,无论害羞是孩子性格的一部分,还是他们在一群陌生人面前的感觉,这都是一种常见的经历。)”以及后文对这一发现的研究和介绍可知,文章围绕害羞展开,介绍了害羞的表现与相关科研成果,所以“The discoveries about shyness(关于羞怯的相关研究发现)”最能概括全文核心,适合作为最佳标题。 D Will human beings find intelligent alien (外星的) life anytime soon? Probably not, according to theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking. Hawking made the prediction during the Breakthrough Starshot announcement in New York City on April 12. At the news conference, Hawking, along with Russian billionaire sponsor Yuri Milner and a group of scientists, detailed a new project that aims to send a large number of tiny, wafer-size (薄饼大小的) spaceships into space to the neighboring star system Alpha Centauri (半人马座阿尔法星). If these tiny spaceships travel at 20 percent of the speed of light, they'll be able to reach Alpha Centauri in just 20 years, Milner said. Once there, the spacecraft will be able to do a 1-hour flyby of Alpha Centauri and collect data that's impossible to gather from Earth, such as taking close-up photos of the star system, studying space dust molecules (分子) and measuring magnetic fields (磁场), said Avi Loeb, chairman of the Breakthrough Starshot Advisory Committee and a professor of science at Harvard University. In addition to learning about space technology, the audience wanted to hear about aliens--specifically, when scientists might find them. Hawking took questions from reporters in advance so that he would have time to prepare his answers. Hawking has famously predicted that intelligent aliens might threaten humankind. Indeed, when asked about what Earthlings should do if we came across intelligent alien life, he said, “We should hope that they don' t find us.” Other researchers at the conference offered a more optimistic view of alien life. 12. What are the wafer-size spaceships mainly designed for? A. Looking for aliens. B. Doing a 1-hour flyby. C. Landing on Alpha Centauri. D. Collecting data about Alpha Centauri. 13. Stephen Hawking might agree that________. A. pretty soon human beings will find alien life B. we may find alien life a danger to human beings C. Alpha Centauri is suitable for human immigration (移民) D. scientists should be sent into space to collect data 14. The underlined word “Earthlings” in Paragraph 6 probably means________. A. sponsors B. reporters C. human beings D. scientists 15. The next part of the passage will probably deal with________. A. analysis of the data collected B. other questions from reporters C. possible ways to defend us against aliens D. other scientist’ opinions on alien life 【答案】12. D 13. B 14. C 15. 由文中第三段“Once there, the spacecraft will be able to do a 1-hour flyby of Alpha Centauri and collect data that's impossible to gather from Earth,”(一旦到达那里,飞船将能够对半人马座阿尔法进行1小时的飞行,并收集从地球收集不到的数据)可知,这种圆片大小的宇宙飞船主要是为了收集关于半人马座阿尔法星的数据而设计的。 由画线词后的“ he said, “We should hope that they don' t find us.”可知,他说,“我们应该希望他们不要找到我们”,因此此处是说当被问及如果遇到有智慧的外星生命我们该怎么办时,霍金这样回答,由此可知画线词的意思应该是“人类”。故选C项。 【15题详解】 推理判断题。由文中最后一段“Other researchers at the conference offered a more optimistic view of alien life.”( 会议上的其他研究人员对外星生命给出了更为乐观的看法)可知,这篇文章的下一部分将可能涉及到其他科学家对外星生命的看法。故选D项。 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Believe it or not, humans spend roughly one-third of their lives asleep. No wonder the quality of our sleep is so closely linked to the quality of our lives. ___16___ Here are some fun facts related to sleep that you might not know about. Let’s find out! How do astronauts sleep? A person in space goes to bed at night then wakes up the next day. But it’s a little different since there is no up or down and no pull of gravity. ___17___ Astronauts can attach themselves to a wall, a seat or a bed inside the cabin so they don’t float around or bump into something. ___18___ We’re all familiar with songs getting stuck in our heads while we’re awake. This phenomenon is called earworms. It turns out that this can happen during sleep as well. Even if we’re asleep, our brains continue to process music, which could cause problems in getting to sleep and staying asleep. Sleep with your pet? Is it good for you to sleep with a pet? Experts have traditionally said no. Pets, like dogs and cats, do not sleep continuously and they will often get up and walk on the bed. All of the activities will lead to a disturbed sleep. ___19___ But recent studies found that people with depression or anxiety may benefit from having their pets in the bed. Socks can help us sleep? ___20___ Putting on a pair of socks at bedtime will help you fall asleep 15 minutes earlier and wake up far less. Wearing socks can help a process called distal vasodilation, which refers to an increase of blood to your hands and feet. A. Can you feel the music clearly? B. Earworms happen while sleeping? C. This might cause you to sleep even worse. D. Hence, weightless astronauts can sleep anywhere. E. Your sleep will improve with a pair of warm feet. F. A sound sleep can bring a good mood and energy. G. Too little sleep will affect academic performances. 【答案】16. F 17. D 18. B 19. C 20. E 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要说明了一些与睡眠相关的有趣知识。 【16题详解】 根据上文“Believe it or not, humans spend roughly one-third of their lives asleep. No wonder the quality of our sleep is so closely linked to the quality of our lives.(信不信由你,人类一生中大约三分之一的时间都在睡觉。难怪我们的睡眠质量与我们的生活质量如此密切相关)”以及后文“Here are some fun facts related to sleep that you might not know about. Let’s find out!(以下是一些你可能不知道的与睡眠有关的有趣事实。让我们来看看!)”可知,本句承接上文继续说明睡眠质量与我们的生活质量如何密切相关:睡个好觉能带来好心情和精力。故F选项“睡个好觉能带来好心情和精力。”符合语境,故选F。 【17题详解】 根据上文“A person in space goes to bed at night then wakes up the next day. But it’s a little different since there is no up or down and no pull of gravity.(一个人在太空中晚上睡觉,然后第二天醒来。但它有点不同,因为它没有向上或向下,没有重力)”以及后文“Astronauts can attach themselves to a wall, a seat or a bed inside the cabin so they don’t float around or bump into something.(宇航员可以把自己固定在舱内的墙壁、座位或床上,这样他们就不会漂浮或撞到什么东西)”可知,本段主要说明的是在太空如何睡眠,故D选项“因此,失重的宇航员可以在任何地方睡觉。”符合语境,故选D。 【18题详解】 根据本段内容“We’re all familiar with songs getting stuck in our heads while we’re awake. This phenomenon is called earworms. It turns out that this can happen during sleep as well. Even if we’re asleep, our brains continue to process music, which could cause problems in getting to sleep and staying asleep.(我们都很熟悉,当我们醒着的时候,歌曲会在我们的脑海里挥之不去。这种现象被称为耳朵虫。事实证明,这也可能发生在睡眠中。即使我们睡着了,我们的大脑也在继续处理音乐,这可能会导致入睡和保持睡眠的问题)”可知,本段主要说明的是睡眠时的耳虫现象,B选项中earworms对应后文earworms。故B选项“睡觉时出现耳朵虫现象?”符合语境,故选B。 【19题详解】 根据上文“Is it good for you to sleep with a pet? Experts have traditionally said no. Pets, like dogs and cats, do not sleep continuously and they will often get up and walk on the bed. All of the activities will lead to a disturbed sleep.(和宠物一起睡觉对你有好处吗? 【20题详解】 根据后文“Putting on a pair of socks at bedtime will help you fall asleep 15 minutes earlier and wake up far less. Wearing socks can help a process called distal vasodilation, which refers to an increase of blood to your hands and feet.(睡前穿双袜子能让你提前15分钟入睡,而且更少醒来。 It was a dark night. B During the winter break, I found my dad’s old CD player in a drawer that I had never seen before. C The characteristic (特征) of shyness is to feel frightened and nervous in new social situations or when being the center of attention. D. The discoveries about shyness D Will human beings find intelligent alien (外星的) life anytime soon? A. analysis of the data collected B. other questions from reporters C. possible ways to defend us against aliens D. other scientist’ opinions on alien life 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Believe it or not, humans spend roughly one-third of their lives asleep.
