Every weekend, after hiking in the Saneum Healing Forest east of Seoul, the firefighters sip tea and enjoy an arm massage. The aim of the program is 1 (offer) “forest healing”; the firefighters all have certain types of stress disorder.
Saneum is one of three official healing forests in South Korea, which offer a range of programs from meditation to woodcraft to camping. Soon there will be 34 more. South Koreans, many of whom suffer from work stress, digital addiction, and intense academic pressures, 2 (welcome) the medicalization of nature with great enthusiasm. In fact, the government is investing a hundred million dollars 3 a healing complex next to Sobaeksan National park.
There is increasing evidence 4 being outside in a pleasant natural environment is good for us. But what is frustrating is that fewer and fewer of us actually enjoy nature regularly. According to Lisa Nisbet, a psychology professor at Canada’s Trent University, evidence for the benefits of nature is pouring at a time 5 we are most disconnected from it. The pressures of modern life lead to long hours spent working indoors. Digital addiction and strong academic pressure add to the problem. In America, visits to parks have been declining since the dawn of email, and so 6 visits to the backyard. Research indicates that only about 10 percent of American teens spend time outside every day.
So what are some of the benefits of nature that Nisbet refers to? 7 (surround) by nature has one obvious effect: the more time we spend in nature, the 8 (stressful) we become. This has been shown to lower blood pressure, heart rates, and levels of the stress hormone, as well as reduce feelings of fear or anger. But studies also indicate that spending time in nature can do more than provide an 9 (improve) sense of well-being; it can lower rates of heart disease and diabetes. That is probably 10 we evolved in nature and have been adapted to the natural environment.

Going Back to the Moon
On 17 January, after years of delays, the towering SLS rocket that will carry the first astronauts to the Moon in over half a century finally rolled out of the Vehicle Assembly Building at the Kennedy Space Center. The Artemis vehicle, 11 in early morning sunshine, headed for its launch pad. More delays and a roll back to the assembly building for repairs came later, but for me this was a 12 moment.
I sat in front of my television for hours with my cat draped across my lap, watching NASA’s 13 of the rocket’s progress to the pad. The cat was totally unimpressed, and I know that for those who, like her, are not ‘into space’, watching a rocket’s oh-so-slow 14 to its destination was probably about as stimulating as watching a tortoise watching paint dry. But I was deeply moved.
Why? Because I’ve waited 15 decades to see that rocket heading for its pad. I wasn’t even born when Apollo 8 rounded the Moon, and I was just starting school when the later Apollo 16 reached the Moon, and have vivid memories of the whole school sitting on the hard, cold floor in front of The School Television. It was watching the grainy footage of those astronauts 17 about on that TV screen that first lit the pilot light of my fascination with space.
When Apollo 17 left the Moon, I was sad — but excited too. After all, everyone was saying we’d be back soon and that nuclear-powered spaceships would be carrying astronauts to Mars in 1982, by which time I’d be a teenager.
But that future never happened. After Apollo 17, we abandoned the Moon, leaving the flags and footprints of the Apollo heroes 18 for decades. I grew up to become a(n) 19 astronomer and science writer, covering one cancelled lunar exploration programme after another. As I wrote article after article telling kids how astronauts could be back on the Moon “soon”, I felt the return to the Moon getting 20 away, not closer as it was supposed to.
But watching that SLS rolling to its pad, I was able to really believe that it won’t be long before I’ll finally be able to go out into my yard, look up at the Moon shining above and say, “There are people flying around that …”

Section A (15分)
Directions: For each blank in the following passage there are four words or phrases marked A, B, C and D. Fill in each blank with the word or phrase that best fits the context.
The Psychology of Discounting
When retailers want to persuade customers to buy a particular product, they typically offer it at a discount. According to a new study to be published in the Journal of Marketing, however, they are 21 a trick.
A team of researchers, led by Akshay Rao of the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management, 22 consumers’ attitudes to discounting. Shoppers, they found, much prefer getting something extra free to getting something cheaper. The main reason is that most people are poor at fractions (分数).
Consumers often struggle to realize, 23 , that a 50% increase in 24 is the same as a 33% discount in price. They overwhelmingly 25 the former is better value. In an experiment, the researchers sold 73% more hand cream when it was offered in a bonus pack than when it carried an 26 discount (even after all other effects, such as a desire to stockpile were controlled for).
This mathematical blind spot remains even when the deal clearly 27 the discounted product. In another experiment, this time on his undergraduates, Mr. Rao offered two 28 on loose coffee beans: 33% extra free or 33% off the price. The discount is by far the better proposition, but the supposedly clever students viewed them as equivalent.
Studies have shown other ways in which retailers can exploit consumers’ mathematical 29 . One is to confuse them with 30 discounting. People are more likely to see a(n) 31 in a product that has been reduced by 20% in price, and then by an additional 25%, than one that has been subject to an equivalent, one-off 40% reduction.
Marketing types can draw lessons beyond just 32 , says Mr. Rao. When advertising a new car’s efficiency, for example, it is more 33 to talk about the number of extra miles per gallon it does, rather than the equivalent percentage 34 in fuel consumption.
There may be lessons for regulators too. Even well-educated shoppers are easily foxed. Sending everyone back to school for maths refresher-courses seems out of the question. But more noticeably displayed 35 prices in shops and advertisements would be a great help.

Section B (22分)
Directions: Read the following three passages. Each passage is followed by several questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C and D. Choose the one that fits best according to the information given in the passage you have just read.
(A)
For the past four years, I have run Poem Store, a public project where I trade poems typed on a manual typewriter for donations. Most of my work has taken place in Arcata, a small Northern California town that welcomed me so warmly people called me its unofficial town poet.
I loved that place. There I wandered through ancient forests, walked the edge of the continent, and knelt beside clear, cold rivers. Yet I also learned another language there — the language of land and ownership. Trees were managed as crops, while protesters sometimes lived high in the branches, trying to save them. I wanted to understand both sides.
That wish led me to Neal Ewald of Green Diamond Resource Company, a company often criticized for its logging practices. One day at the market, Neal asked me to write a poem about being underwater. I wrote: “With the weight of water around us, we look up and know all the force of the world lies deep in such an unknown place.”
The poem touched him. Soon after, he mailed me a book of letters written by his wife during the final months of her life. He asked me to write another poem, one that he and his children could read when they missed her. He wanted no borrowed song, no famous lines — only words shaped for her life and her memory.
I read the letters carefully and wrote Wendy’s poem. When I gave it to Neal, our connection deepened. Out of shared sorrow grew an unlikely friendship. We had dinners, started a book club, and walked together in the woods. We spoke of grief, love, protest, business, and the future of the forests. Neal often returned to one word: yes. He believed even opponents should search for the place where conversation could begin.
Later, a young protester named Farmer, who had been living secretly in the trees, agreed to meet Neal. They disagreed on almost everything, yet they chose to listen. In time, the McKay Tract, home to old-growth redwoods, was spared, and much of it moved toward becoming a community forest.
I still trace that change back to a pair of poems — one about deep water, one about love that outlived loss. Together, they became a small spark that proved how quietly one human connection can light the dark.
36.Why did the author want to connect with Neal at first?
A.To ask Neal to support the Poem Store project.
B.To invite Neal to join local environmental protests.
C.To better understand opposing views on the forests.
D.To learn how to manage a successful wood company.
37.What was Neal’s requirement for the second poem?
A.It had to teach the public about forests.
B.It had to be written especially for his wife.
C.It had to be related to underwater experience.
D.It had to be chosen first by his children together.
38.What happened to the McKay Tract after Neal and Farmer began to listen to each other?
A.It was protected for local public use.
B.It was sold to Farmer and his supporters.
C.It was closed to become a redwood reserve.
D.It was cut down under a new community plan.
39.What is the passage mainly about?
A.How poetry helped bring people together.
B.Why poetry could not ease personal grief.
C.How poetry made a town famous for its forests.
D.Why poetry could not improve a company’s image.

Types of Social Groups
Life places us in a complex web of relationships with other people. Our humanness arises out of these relationships in the course of social interaction. Moreover, our humanness must be sustained through social interaction -- and fairly constantly so. When an association continues long enough for two people to become linked together by a relatively stable set of expectations, it is called a relationship.
People are bound within relationships by two types of bonds: expressive ties and instrumental ties. Expressive ties are social links formed when we emotionally invest ourselves in and commit ourselves to other people. Through association with people who are meaningful to us, we achieve a sense of security, love, acceptance, companionship, and personal worth. Instrumental ties are social links focused when we cooperate with other people to achieve some goal.
Occasionally, this may mean working with, instead of against, competitors. More often, we simply cooperate with others to reach some end without endowing the relationship with any larger significance.
Sociologists have built on the distinction between expressive and instrumental ties to distinguish between two types of groups: primary and secondary. A primary group involves two or more people who enjoy a direct, intimate, cohesive relationship with one another. Expressive ties predominate in primary groups: we view the people as ends in themselves and valuable in their own right. A secondary group entails two or more people who are involved in an impersonal relationship and have come together for a specific, practical purpose. Instrumental ties predominate in secondary groups ; we perceive people as means to ends rather than as ends in their own right. sometimes primary group relationships evolve out of secondary group relationships. This happens in many work settings. People on the job often develop close relationships with coworkers as they come to share gripes, jokes, gossip, and satisfactions.
A number of conditions enhance the likelihood that primary groups will arise. First, group size is important. We find it difficult to get to know people personally when they are milling about and dispersed in large groups. In small groups we have a better chance to initiate contact and establish rapport with them. Second, face - to - face contact allows us to size up others. Seeing and talking with one another in close physical proximity makes possible a subtle exchange of ideas and feelings. And third, the probability that we will develop primary group bonds increases as we have frequent and continuous contact. Our ties with people often deepen as we interact with them across time and gradually evolve interlocking habits and interests.
Primary groups are fundamental to us and to society. Sociologists view primary groups as bridges between individuals and the larger society because they transmit, mediate, and interpret a society’s cultural patterns and provide the sense of oneness so critical for social solidarity. Primary groups, then serve both as carriers of social norms and as enforcers of them.
43.According to Paragraph 1, which of the following statements is true of a relationship?
A.It is a structure of associations with many people.
B.It should be studied in the course of social interaction.
C.It places great demands on people.
D.It develops gradually over time.
44.Which of the following can be inferred from the author’s claim in paragraph 4 that primary group relationships sometimes evolve out of secondary group relationships?
A.Secondary group relationships begin by being primary group relationships.
B.A secondary group relationship that is highly visible quickly becomes a primary group relationship.
C.Sociologists believe that only primary group relationships are important to society.
D.Even in secondary groups, frequent communication serves to bring people into close relationships.
45.The phrase “size up” in paragraph 5 is closest in meaning to “________”.
A.enlarge B.evaluate
C.impress D.accept
46.This passage is developed primarily by ________.
A.drawing comparisons between theory and practice
B.presenting two opposing theories
C.defining important concepts
D.discussing causes and their effects
Section C (8分)
Directions: Read the passage carefully. Fill in each blank with a proper sentence given in the box. Each sentence can be used only once. Note that there are two more sentences than you need.
Flower power
Paco Calvo’s remarkable book Planta Sapiens is the result of “two decades of passionate exploration into a rich and alternate world that exists alongside our own” — the world of plants. 47
Calvo is a professor of the philosophy of science in the Minimal Intelligence Laboratory at the University of Murcia, Spain. Although he presents detailed scientific evidence to support his case, he also draws on philosophical arguments about the nature of consciousness. We humans have a tendency to believe that the world revolves around us, but Calvo writes that intelligence is “not quite as special as we like to think”. 48
Calvo describes many experiments that reveal plants’ remarkable range, including the way they communicate with others nearby using “chemical talk”, a language encoded in about 1,700 volatile (易挥发的) organic compounds. 49 In lectures, he places a Venus flytrap under a bell jar with a cotton pad soaked in anesthetic. After an hour the plant no longer responds to touch by closing its traps. Tests show that plant’s electrical activity has stopped. It is effectively asleep. If plants can be put to sleep, does that imply they also have a waking state? Calvo thinks it does, and argues that it’s quite possible they have an individual experience of the world: They may be aware.
Other studies show that some plants retain a memory of where the sun will rise, in order to turn their leaves towards the first rays. 50 The conclusion must be that they constantly collect information, processing and retaining it in order to “make predictions, learn, and even plan ahead.”
These are revolutionary ideas and as Calvo admits, contested by many scientists who study the physiology of plants. But he guides us through the latest research and builds a compelling case that, unlikely as it may seem, deserves to be taken seriously. Although plants lack our grey matter, he believes they have a unique “green matter”. In the absence of nerves, plants use networked cells to regulate themselves.
A.He also shows how, like animals, they can be anesthetized (麻醉).
B.Fundamentally, this book is about changing our perception of plants.
C.They store this knowledge for several days, even when kept in total darkness.
D.He argues that it’s time to accept that other organisms, even drastically different ones, may be capable of it.
E.These movements of plants are in fact “behavior”, and observing behavior is the route to understanding intelligence.
F.The subject of his exploration is startlingly fundamental: the question of whether plants can be regarded as possessing intelligence.
III. Summary Writing (10分)
51.Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize in no more than 60 words the main idea and the main point(s) of the passage. Use your own words as far as possible.
How to Choose the Right Campsite in Spring
Spring is a magical time for camping. The world awakens with fresh greenery and vibrant wildlife, offering a unique escape from the daily grind. However, spring weather and terrain also present specific challenges. To ensure a safe and enjoyable trip, choosing the right campsite requires extra consideration.
First and foremost, you must prioritize elevation and drainage. Spring is synonymous with melting snow and increased rainfall, which can turn a picturesque meadow into a mud pit or, worse, a flood zone. Therefore, always avoid low-lying areas, dry riverbeds, and the banks of streams or lakes. Water levels can rise rapidly without warning. Instead, look for elevated, well-drained ground. For example, a slight slope is ideal, as it allows water to run off, keeping your tent floor dry.
Shelter from the elements is also critical. Spring weather is notoriously fickle, capable of shifting from warm sunshine to cold winds or sudden showers in minutes. When scouting a location, look for natural windbreaks such as dense groves of trees or large rock formations. These will shield you from biting winds. At the same time, practice your “look up” routine: inspect trees for “widowmakers” — dead branches that can be dislodged by spring storms — and avoid camping directly under them.
Finally, consider the balance between sun and shade. In early spring, nights can still be bitterly cold. Choosing a spot that will receive the first rays of morning sunlight can help warm your tent quickly. Conversely, as the day warms up, some shade will keep your camp comfortable and prevent food from spoiling too quickly in the fluctuating temperatures.
Selecting a campsite in spring is an exercise in preparation and observation. This careful selection allows you to fully immerse yourself in the season’s beauty — the budding leaves, the rushing streams, and the crisp, fresh air — making for an unforgettable spring adventure.

11.B 12.E 13.I 14.D 15.H 16.J 17.C 18.K 19.A 20.F
bathed为过去分词,与其逻辑主语The Artemis vehicle构成被动关系,且(be)bathed in为固定搭配,意为“沐浴在……
根据上文“sat in front of my television for hours”可知,作者坐在电视机前数小时,应是在观看直播,livestream为名词,意为“直播”。
空前leaving为现在分词,the flags and footprints of the Apollo heroes为leaving的宾语,空处应填形容词作宾语补足语,描述旗帜和脚印处于“未被干扰”的状态。
后文“not closer as it was”与空前内容形成对比,空处填入副词further表示程度,getting further away意为“越来越远”,further与后文的closer形成对照。

【答案】36.C 37.B 38.A 39.A

When an association continues long enough for two people to become linked together by a relatively stable set of expectations, it is called a relationship.(当一段关系持续足够长的时间,使两个人通过一组相对稳定的期望联系在一起时,这就叫做关系。)
This happens in many work settings. People on the job often develop close relationships with coworkers as they come to share gripes, jokes, gossip, and satisfactions.(这在很多工作环境中都会发生。
Seeing and talking with one another in close physical proximity makes possible a subtle exchange of ideas and feelings.

【答案】47.F 48.D 49.A 50.C
根据前文“Paco Calvo’s remarkable book Planta Sapiens is the result of “two decades of passionate exploration into a rich and alternate world that exists alongside our own” — the world of plants. (帕科・卡尔沃所著的佳作《植物智人》,是他“二十年来热忱探索与人类世界并存的另一个丰富别样世界”的成果——这个世界就是植物界。)”可知,文章开篇提到《植物智人》是卡尔沃二十年探索植物世界的成果,F选项“The subject of his exploration is startlingly fundamental: the question of whether plants can be regarded as possessing intelligence. (他探索的主题极具根本意义:植物是否可以被认为拥有智慧。)”承接上文,继续介绍该书的探索主题,引出全文核心话题。
48.根据前文“We humans have a tendency to believe that the world revolves around us, but Calvo writes that intelligence is “not quite as special as we like to think”. (我们人类总习惯性认为世界以我们为中心,但卡尔沃写道,智慧“并不像我们自以为的那般独一无二”。)”可知,前文明说卡尔沃提出“智慧并不是人类独有的”,D选项“He argues that it’s time to accept that other organisms, even drastically different ones, may be capable of it. (他认为,我们是时候承认,其他生物即便与人类截然不同,也同样可能拥有智慧。)”中的it指代前文的intelligence,进一步说明他的观点:其他和人类差异极大的生物也可能拥有智慧,衔接紧密。
49.根据前文“Calvo describes many experiments that reveal plants’ remarkable range, including the way they communicate with others nearby using “chemical talk”, a language encoded in about 1,700 volatile organic compounds. (卡尔沃介绍了许多实验,这些实验揭示了植物非凡的能力范围,包括它们利用“化学对话”与周边同类交流的方式,这是一种由约1700种挥发性有机化合物构成的语言。)”及后文“In lectures, he places a Venus flytrap under a bel jar with a cotton pad soaked in anesthetic. (在讲座中,他把一株捕蝇草放置在玻璃罩下,并放入一块浸有麻醉剂的棉片。一小时后,这株植物受到触碰时,不再闭合捕虫夹。检测显示,植物的电活动已经停止,它实际上进入了睡眠状态。如果植物可以被麻醉入睡,那是否意味着它们也有清醒状态?卡尔沃认为的确如此,并且认为植物很可能拥有对世界的独立感知:它们或许具有意识。)”可知,前文介绍了植物的交流能力,后文具体展开麻醉植物的实验,A选项“He also shows how, like animals, they can be anesthetized. (他还展示了如何像对待动物一样对它们进行麻醉。)”点明“植物和动物一样可以被麻醉”,对应后文的麻醉相关实验内容,完美引出下文,符合逻辑。
50.根据前文“Other studies show that some plants retain a memory of where the sun will rise, in order to turn their leaves towards the first rays. (其他研究表明,有些植物能记住日出的方位,以便将叶片转向清晨的第一缕阳光。)”及后文“The conclusion must be that they constantly collect information, processing and retaining it in order to “make predictions, learn, and even plan ahead.”(由此可以得出结论:植物会不断收集信息,对其进行处理和储存,进而“做出预测、学习,甚至提前规划”。)”可知,前文明说部分植物能记住太阳升起的位置,C选项“They store this knowledge for several days, even when kept in total darkness. (即便处于完全黑暗的环境中,它们也能将这类记忆留存数日。)”中的this knowledge指代前文对太阳位置的记忆,进一步说明植物储存记忆的能力,衔接后文关于植物收集处理信息的结论,符合语境。

IV. Translation (15分)
Directions: Translate the following sentences into English, using the words given in the brackets.
_____________________________________________________________________________________
Camels (can) adapt to the dry desert environment by instinct / out of instinct.
Camels (can) adapt to the dry desert environment by instinct / out of instinct.
________________________________________________________________
When I revisit / return to the familiar place, the laughter and voices of childhood friends still echo on / through the old street.
“故地重游”为“Revisit / Return to the familiar place”;“童年伙伴的欢声笑语”为“the laughter and voices of childhood friends”作主句主语;“在老街上回转悠扬”为“ echo on / through the old street.” When I revisit / return to the familiar place, the laughter and voices of childhood friends still echo on / through the old street.
_____________________________________________________________________________________
If artificial intelligence completely replaces human labor, wouldn’t everyone be at risk of unemployment?
风险”为 be at risk of ;“失业”为unemployment,作宾语。 If artificial intelligence completely replaces human labor, wouldn’t everyone be at risk of unemployment?
________________________________________________________________
The century-old Datong high school is located in the city center, whose collection is extensive, and readers can find a variety of rare books here.
The century-old Datong high school;表示“坐落于”应用be located in,主语为单数名词,be动词用is;表示“市中心”应用the city center;表示“馆藏丰富”应用whose collection is extensive,此处为whose引导的非限制性定语从句,修饰先行词The century-old Datong high school,关系词在定语从句中作定语;表示“读者可以在这里找到各种珍贵的书籍”应用“readers can find a variety of rare books here”;前后两句话为并列句,需用连词and连接。 The century-old Datong high school is located in the city center, whose collection is extensive, and readers can find a variety of rare books here.

As an essential part of middle school education, aesthetic education is widely carried out in our school, with music and art courses provided. Yet many students have a superficial understanding of beauty, focusing merely on external forms, skill mastery or fashion trends and lacking the ability to truly appreciate traditional arts like calligraphy and Chinese painting.
There are three main reasons for this. For one thing, buried in academic work, students have little time to explore traditional art. For another thing, aesthetic courses lay more stress on skill training rather than guiding students to feel art’s inner beauty and cultural connotation. Finally, popular culture exerts a great influence, making students favor trendy things over traditional arts.
To change this situation, joint efforts are needed. It is schools that should hold traditional art activities to arouse students’ interest. Teachers, meanwhile, ought to adjust teaching methods. They inspire students to understand the charm behind artworks. As for students, they need to take the initiative to learn traditional culture, cultivating the ability to discover inner beauty. Only in this way can aesthetic education play its real role and help students form a correct view of beauty.
