Do you dream of a perfect pet that’s soft, furry, and full of love? What if it’s also simple to care for and never makes a mess? Well, you can have all that with a robo-pet!
The “Nearly Real” Pet of Tomorrow
A robo-pet, 1 robotic pet, isn’t a real animal, but it looks just like one. It’s often covered in soft, fake fur too. If real cats or dogs make you feel sick, don’t worry—the fake fur on robo-pets is quite 2 .
These battery-powered pets can do lots of things real pets do. They bark, wag their tails, play games, and more! Better yet, they can be the loving friend you’ve always wanted.
Of course, robots can’t fully 3 real animals yet—they can only do what they’re programmed to do. But this issue is 4 . Soon, you might even struggle to tell a robo-pet apart from a real animal!
A “No-Worry” Companion for Seniors
Older people really like robo-pets. Many seniors don’t have the energy or ability to move around enough to care for a real pet. They might also forget to look after a real pet because of 5 problems. Or they can’t afford the food and medicine real animals need. But robo-pets don’t need such care and can bring joy to their lives. With robo-pets, older people can enjoy having a pet without any 6 or responsibilities.
A Fantastic Partner for Kids
Robo-pets are also super popular with kids. Looking after a robo-pet is a great way to learn about responsibility. For kids who are scared of real dogs or cats, robo-pets can help them face their fears little by little and become braver. And if kids want something more exciting than regular dogs and cats, they can pick more creative choices. Robotic toy unicorns, dinosaurs, and many other cool options exist, too. 7 which robo-pet you choose, you’ll end up with a fun friend that makes your life more enjoyable.

Making Another Kid’s Day
It was the day after New Year’s. The air smelled of joy and laughter. My mom took me to Chuck E. Cheese’s, my favorite place to play games.
I was really lucky that day. Every game I touched seemed to pour out tickets like a waterfall — red, blue, and yellow ones growing in my hands. I kept putting them into my pocket, and I felt like a(n) 8 .
Then I saw a claw machine in the corner. A little boy, maybe seven years old, was pulling the joystick with all his strength. His dad stood behind him, cheering softly. The boy’s face was full of 9 , as if that toy was all he cared about. He put in a token and moved the joystick carefully. The claw dropped, catching a small toy bear. Yes! But just as it lifted, the claw let go, and the bear fell back down. The boy’s smile 10 .
“That’s okay,” his dad encouraged him gently. “Try again.”
The boy put in another token. This time, the claw missed completely. His shoulders dropped. One more token, and the claw caught a toy, but halfway up, it stopped and the toy fell. To make things 11 , his tickets got stuck inside the machine.
The boy’s eyes filled with tears. His father tried to help, but there was nothing he could do. The boy looked so disappointed, as if his whole day was broken.
I stood there watching him. At that moment, I realized I could use my own 12 to help him and give him a Kid’s Day. I walked over and said, “Hey!” He looked up. I counted out twenty of my own red tickets.
“These are for you,” I said. “They’re for the tickets you lost.”
The boy’s eyes 13 in surprise.
“Really?” he asked quietly.
“Really,” I answered. “Everyone has hard times, but you’re so brave and you deserve to(应得的) have a good time.” He took the tickets 14 , and his face lit up with a big smile. He turned to his dad and shouted, “Dad! Look!”
He ran to the prize counter, holding the tickets high. His dad smiled and said, “Thank you. You made his holiday.”
I watched him pick out a small toy car. He waved at me, and I waved back.
My mom said, “That was very kind.”
I smiled. Making others happy gave me more joy than any prize. A small act of 15 can brighten anyone’s day.

It was a week before I saw Captain Nemo again. Every morning, I noticed fresh air coming into the rooms and I knew that the Nautilus came to the top. I would go out and see the sunrise.
Then I received a note from Captain Nemo. He invited me and my friends to go hunting with him in the forests of Crespo Island. Ned was excited because he thought there he could find a chance to run away. When I saw Captain Nemo the next day, I asked him why he was so interested in Crespo Island. “I thought you preferred the sea.”
“I do,” replied the Captain. “But these forests are under the sea.” During breakfast, he explained that he had made diving suits with special air tanks before he invited us. These tanks would allow us to stay under the water for ten hours. He had also made lights that worked in electric batteries (电池). When Ned realized that we were not going onto land for our hunting trip, he decided not to come at all.
Conseil and I put on our diving suits, and so did Captain Nemo and one of his men. We stepped into a room and closed the door. The room was filled with water, and another door opened. We went through it, and we were on the sea floor. It was an amazing experience that I would never forget.
We were about ten metres under the water. The light from the sun reached us. Everything looked very colourful. We walked over the fine sand and enjoyed the colours of the shells, fish and seaweed. Conseil and I followed Captain Nemo and his man as they crossed a large grassy area. We were going deeper and deeper.
As we were a hundred metres under the water, we could still see quite well. Captain Nemo stopped and pointed to some dark shapes. This was the forest. The “trees” there were giant seaweed, and all their branches (枝杈) were vertical (垂直的). We could not stop looking at them. Fish swam around the branches like birds in a forest. Small bushes grew under the large seaweed trees.
Three hours later, we lay down to rest. I was not hungry, but very sleepy. We all slept, and when we woke up, we explored further.

Spring is the season to harvest West Lake Longjing tea, which is now picked by not only human workers but also “metal workers”—tea-picking robots!
At the end of March, Hangzhou welcomed its best period of large-scale (大规模的) harvesting of West Lake Longjing tea. In one tea garden, a smart tea-picking robot invented by Zhejiang Sci-Tech University first appeared in public after five years of research and development.
With a pull and a suck (吸), the robotic arm separates the leaves from the trees and then puts them into a storage box quickly. “The robot learned its skills through a specially designed model that offers it a large amount of information of tea leaves,” said Chen Jianneng, one of the researchers. “This allows the robot to recognize tea leaves by itself with a success rate (成功率) of over 90 percent,” Chen added.
Yet, the robot’s picking system needs improving before it can be more widely used. According to Professor Wu Chuanyu, leader of the research team, the robot can only take on the work of 1.5 workers at present. It will need to do the work of 5 workers if it is used for a large-scale harvesting. In addition, the robot can now only be used on flat ground, not on rough(崎岖不平的) surfaces such as mountains. It may take five more years to realize these goals, Wu told China News.
Tea planting and processing are also changed to become “smarter”. For example, there are special lamps that can attract pests (害虫) but will not hurt other “friendly” insects. This machine works for 24 hours, using colour boards and lights to draw pests in day and night and then kill them with an electric grid (电网).
In terms of tea roasting (炒制), although machine-roasted tea is used widely, many tea lovers argue that this method will make the tea not have the same taste as the tea made by hand-roasting. Researchers at Zhejiang University are trying to find out the tiny differences between the two methods to improve machine performance. They’re researching AI technologies to help them gain necessary information and make adjustments (调整) to roasting methods and temperatures in time.
When Tea Meets New Technology
Thanks to the researchers’ hard work for development, a small tea-picking robot made its first 56 in public to help human workers harvest West Lake Longjing tea.

A small act of 15 can brighten anyone’s day.

artist(艺术家)、owner(主人)、player(玩家)均不符合语境,champion(冠军)能体现他“大获全胜”的得意心情。
worry(担忧)、surprise(惊讶)、competition(竞争)均不符合他专注投入的状态,excitement(兴奋)契合他对玩具的渴望。
showed(展示)、spread(展开)、remained(保持)均与语境相反,disappeared(消失)完美体现了笑容从有到无的变化。
cooler(更酷)、easier(更容易)、faster(更快)均不符合“雪上加霜”的逻辑,worse(更糟)符合固定搭配 to make things worse,意为“更糟糕的是”。
toys(玩具)、snacks(零食)、cards(卡片)均不是作者能立刻拿出、且能解决男孩困境的东西,tickets(票)是符合上下文的关键物品。
softened(变柔和)、brightened(发亮)、moved(感动)均与“in surprise”不匹配,widened(睁大)是惊讶时的典型动作。
quietly(安静地)、luckily(幸运地)、nervously(紧张地)均不符合他此时的心情,happily(开心地)完美体现了他的喜悦。
fitness(健康)、shyness(害羞)、carelessness(粗心)均与文章主旨无关,kindness(善意 / 善举)点明了全文的主题。

根据前文“the new kid”及“hitting reset on my whole life”可知,作者是“开始”一所新学校,应用Starting。

show up“出现”,stand out“突出”,come back“回来”,均不符合适应新学校的含义。
根据后文“joined the photography club and started hanging out”可知,从最初的糟糕到后来顺利,情况变得“不同了”,应用different。

根据前文“slowly built up my confidence”可知,作者还学到了“自信”,应用confidence。

——Adapted from Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea

第三段指出:“When Ned realized that we were not going onto land for our hunting trip, he decided not to come at all.”,说明尼德·兰最终拒绝参加海底探险,因此“尼德、尼摩船长和我会一起去探险”不符合原文,故选B。
33.事件顺序:d(Captain Nemo为旅行做准备,制作潜水服和灯)→ c(Captain Nemo邀请作者去探索森林)→ a(穿过门到达海底)→ e(看到彩色贝壳,穿过草地)→ b(到达海底森林)。
34.第四段及第六段指出:“It was an amazing experience that I would never forget.”“We could not stop looking at them.”,并以“Fish swam around the branches like birds in a forest”描写海底森林的美景,直接体现“我”对海底森林的惊叹(amazed)之情。
35.最后一段指出:“We all slept, and when we woke up, we explored further.”,说明他们睡醒后会继续深入探索,因此下文最可能讲述他们如何继续向更深处探索的经历。

Preparation: Find a quiet place and play your favourite slow music. Stand upright, look forward and relax. When you feel peaceful, take a step to the left. Remember to breathe deeply through the exercise.
Step 1 Raise both arms with palms (手掌) facing up. Stretch (伸展) out completely as if you were holding up the sky. Hold your breath for two seconds before slowly returning to the starting position.
Step 2 Bend (弯曲) your knees into the horse stance (马步). Open your arms to the left as if you were shooting arrows (射箭). Slowly return to the starting position and repeat it on the right side.
Step 3 Stretch the left arm with the palm facing up while pressing (按,压) the other arm down. Return to the starting position and do the same on the other side.
Step 4 Slowly turn your head to the left and look back as far as possible. Then, repeat the exercise on the other side.
Step 5 Do the horse stance. Raise your hands and slowly lower them until your palms are on your thighs (大腿). Lean (倾斜) your upper body forward. Shake your head from right to left. Repeat it on the other side.
Step 6 Raise both hands before pressing them down to waist (腰) level. Bend from waist while moving your hands down the back of the legs until they touch your toes.
Step 7 Do the horse stance. Make fists (拳头) next to the waist. Punch (猛击) with the left fist before pulling it into the waist. Then, do the same with the right fist.

由“Preparation: Find a quiet place... relax. When you feel peaceful”可知,准备时应先让自己平静下来。
39.由“Preparation: Remember to breathe deeply through the exercise”可知,练习八段锦需要全程保持深呼吸,因此C项正确。由“Baduanjin is one of the most popular Chinese qigong exercises”可知,原文说的是八段锦是“最受欢迎的气功之一”,并非“中国最受欢迎的运动”,因此A项错误。由表格最后一行“Steps 1, 6, 8 should be repeated six times each, and the others three times each”可知,只有第1、6、8步重复六次,其余步骤重复三次,并非所有步骤都重复六次,因此B项错误。
