第二节
One possible version:
Mr. Zhang smiled and took out an old, yellow notebook from his bag. Inside were detailed error notes and daily learning plans he had made in high school. He told Li Ming that failure never meant incompetence, but rather revealed his weaknesses. Many high school students struggled with math at first, and progress always came gradually rather than overnight. He encouraged Li Ming to face his mistakes bravely, sort out confusing knowledge points, and never doubt his own ability. Warmth spread through Li Ming’s heart, and he regained his fading confidence.
From that day on, Li Ming did something different every day after school. He no longer felt frustrated or discouraged. Instead, he sorted out incorrect math questions carefully every day, reviewed key knowledge regularly and asked the teacher for help with difficult problems in time. Bit by bit, his math foundation became solid, and his problem-solving skills improved greatly. Months later, Li Ming achieved a satisfying score in the final math test. He finally understood that true growth lies in persisting through difficulties rather than fearing temporary failure.

Zhang Xue is a key figure in China’s motorcycle industry. He founded ZXMOTO, a Chinese motorcycle brand that made history in 2026 by winning two straight races at the World Superbike Championship (WSBK) in Portugal. His journey is a true underdog story.
Born in 1987 in a poor mountain village in Hunan Province, Zhang dropped out of school at 14 and worked as a repair shop apprentice (学徒). He learned engines by taking them apart with his own hands. At 19, eager to prove himself, he chased a TV crew’s car for over 100 kilometers through pouring rain on a broken motorcycle. The crew laughed at him, but his courage earned him a spot on TV. That led to a job as a rider and mechanic.
Realizing he started racing too late to become a champion rider, Zhang changed his goal, “If I cannot ride the fastest bike, I will build one.” In 2013, he arrived in Chongqing with only 20,000 yuan (about 2,900 USD), bought parts, and built his first bike. In 2017 he co-founded Kove Moto, which grew into a major brand. But in 2024, after leaving Kove, he started ZXMOTO — his own company, named after his name.
Zhang’s years of devotion to motorcycle engineering has finally borne fruit. In March 2026, French rider Valentin Debise rode the ZXMOTO 820 RR-RS to two straight wins at WSBK, beating Ducati and Yamaha by nearly four seconds — the first ever race wins for a Chinese manufacturer. Watching from the sidelines, Zhang was moved to tears.
Today, ZXMOTO is valued at over one billion yuan. Zhang once said, “The world had no impression of Chinese motorcycles. Now they will remember us.” His story — from a motorcycle apprentice to a pioneer of Chinese motorsports — proves that passion can move mountains.
4.Why is Zhang’s childhood experience mentioned in paragraph 2?
A.To highlight his poor life in childhood.
B.To explain the origin of his career.
C.To show his early interest in engines.
D.To stress his disadvantage in education.
5.What was Zhang’s original goal?
A.To become a top motorbike rider.
B.To build the fastest motorbike.
C.To work as a motorbike apprentice.
D.To set up a top motorbike brand.
6.What’s Paragraph 4 mainly about?
A.Zhang’s devotion to his career. B.The performance of the motorbike.
C.The reward for Zhang’s efforts. D.Valentin’s performance in the race.
7.Which of the following is true of Zhang’s story?
A.When in Rome, do as Romans do.
B.It’s better to be safe than sorry.
C.A friend in need is a friend indeed.
D.Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
C
Fermented (发酵的) foods are enjoyed worldwide for their strong, often salty and spicy tastes. This makes them particularly attractive to astronauts, who report that their sense of taste can get weaker in space. Although many dishes have been prepared on the International Space Station (ISS), nothing has ever been fermented there. Indeed, given that microgravity and strong energy rays from space might affect the microbial (微生物的) interactions needed for this process, it has always been unclear if fermentation was even possible in space.
Now, researchers Maggie Coble from Massachusetts and Josh Evans from Denmark have proved that fermentation is possible by creating miso, a kind of condiment (酱料), in space. They first prepared a ready-to-ferment mixture using cooked soybeans, salt and rice previously fermented. The mixture was separated into three containers and frozen. One remained in Denmark, one went to Massachusetts, and one was sent to Houston for transport to the ISS. All of them fermented for several weeks.
When the miso returned to Earth for analysis, researchers identified all the chemicals normally found in this condiment. Taste tests showed that the taste was similar compared to Danish and Massachusetts miso. Even so, it was different enough for the researchers to call it “space miso”.
The space miso had a stronger sweet taste than the Earth-made miso, coming from high levels of C7H₁₀O2, the same chemical also found in honey and some wines. It also had stronger cheese-like taste, probably resulting from higher concentrations of an acid, a type of chemical.
Why these chemicals appeared in greater amounts remains unconfirmed, but microgravity is the likely cause. Under normal condition on Earth, a small amount of gas produced by microbes during fermentation simply rise upwards to the surface. Not so in space. In microgravity, the gas travel in all directions, probably affecting microbial growth by changing how important gases like oxygen spread around.
Now that fermentation has been shown to be possible, the door opens for producing other foods for future space travelers.
8.What makes fermentation difficult in space?
A.The strong tastes of fermented foods.
B.The variety of food prepared on the ISS.
C.Special conditions of space environment.
D.Astronauts’ weak sense of taste in space.
9.What approach did the researchers adopt in the experiment?
A.A research using different materials.
B.A study of several kinds of condiments.
C.A test on different fermentation periods.
D.A comparison in different environments.
10.How does space miso differ from regular one?
A.A distinct cheese taste.
B.Increased chemical types.
C.A honey-and-wine-like note.
D.Reduced sugar concentration.
11.What is the author’s attitude toward the space fermentation research?
A.Unclear. B.Hopeful. C.Doubtful. D.Objective.
D
Clean air is important for our health, but many homes have hidden pollutants. Things like paints, cleaning products, waxes, and carpets can release harmful chemicals such as formaldehyde and benzene. These chemicals may cause skin problems, eye damage, or even cancer. Children are especially at risk because they spend a lot of time indoors and have sensitive lungs.
Many people buy houseplants because they look nice and are said to clean the air. But do they really work? Scientists have known that plants turn carbon dioxide into oxygen.
In the 1980s, NASA did an experiment. They put plants like spider plants in small, sealed(密封的)boxes with polluted air. After many hours, they found that these plants could remove harmful chemicals from the air. Later studies showed that some plants trap pollutants on their hairy or waxy leaves. Others take them in through tiny holes called stomata and then break the chemicals down using special enzymes(酶). Some plants even send the pollutants to their roots, where tiny microbes eat them.
However, using plants to clean the air at home is not easy. Most popular houseplants, such as fiddle-leaf figs and birds of paradise, come from tropical places. They have very small stomata, so they take in fewer pollutants. In fact, plants only clean the air well in small, sealed boxes. In normal rooms with open space, they do not make a big difference. Some “living walls”—large walls covered with many plants—can help a little. But they are hard to take care of, and one study found that 60 square centimeters of plants reduced carbon dioxide by less than 2%.
So, enjoy your plants for their beauty and the joy they bring. But if you really want cleaner air at home, it is better to use an electric air purifier instead.
12.What is paragraph 1 mainly about?
A.The benefits of houseplants. B.The harm of house pollutants.
C.The importance of clean air. D.The types of indoor pollutants.
13.What did NASA’s experiment prove in the 1980s?
A.Enzymes break down pollutants. B.Plants take in pollutants by roots.
C.Plants can purify the polluted air. D.Tree leaves trap harmful chemicals.
14.How is the effect of the living walls in cleaning air?
A.Satisfying. B.Reliable. C.Excellent. D.Limited.
15.What does the author’s suggestion in cleaning indoor air?
A.Planting houseplants. B.Using air purifiers.
C.Opening windows often. D.Using green furniture.

Modern study pressure and endless screen time make most teenagers trapped in unhealthy daily routines. Many stay up late, rely on takeout and skip exercise, which slowly weaken their bodies and ruin their mood. Building a regular, balanced healthy lifestyle is a must for every high school student. 16
17 Too much fried food, sweet drinks and irregular meals slow down digestion and cause tiredness. Instead, we should take in enough fruit, vegetables and whole grains every day. It is also wise to eat three meals at fixed time and stop overeating before bedtime.
Daily exercise cannot be ignored if we want full energy. 18 We can make use of short breaks between classes to stretch our bodies. After school, jogging, playing ball games or walking for 20 minutes are all easy choices. Regular movement improves immunity and eases study anxiety greatly.
Good sleep habits lay the foundation of physical recovery. Staying up scrolling phones cuts down memory and attention span. 19 Turning off electronic devices one hour before sleep helps us fall asleep faster and get better rest.
Mental balance is equally important to physical fitness. When buried in heavy homework, we easily feel upset and anxious. Talk with family or take a walk outdoors to release negative feelings. 20
Small daily changes will finally bring us strong bodies and positive minds to face school challenges.
A.A balanced daily diet comes first for teenage health.
B.Fast food and soft drinks are popular among teenagers for their good taste.
C.Keeping calm and positive is also a key part of healthy living.
D.Try to keep a fixed sleeping schedule with at least eight hours’ rest.
E.Short-time exercise every day works better than occasional hard training.
F.Most students have no time to carry out long-time sports training.
G.Here are four practical ways to form healthy daily habits.

In the heart of Milan, a restaurant is drawing locals in an unexpected yet quietly captivating way: Chinese braised dishes paired with Italian wine. Chen Yu, from Chengdu, has become one of the 36 (chef) reshaping local dining habits. Located in the heart of a bustling Milan district, his restaurant is small in size 37 rich in atmosphere, with walls lined with stories and snapshots of 38 (region) Chinese cuisine. Diners are often surprised by how seamlessly these rich, layered flavors pair well with Italian wines, 39 (create) a unique interplay between East and West.
“So far, numerous authentic Chinese dishes 40 (make) their way into Italy and Europe, offering a richer palette of flavors and cultural experiences that people 41 (genuine) appreciate,” a regular customer says.
Chen explains that Italian guests are fascinated by how traditional Sichuan flavors can pair surprisingly well with local wines. Some dishes, such as braised pork belly, are allowed 42 (cook) low and slow to release their full, slow-built depth of flavor, often finishing with a touch of sweetness that balances the heat. Food bloggers, some of 43 travel across Italy to review his menu, say that Chinese cuisine has introduced them to new ways of approaching food.
“Chinese cuisine is a powerful way to share our culture,” says Chen. 44 (determine) to stay true to the integrity of traditional flavors, he believes confidence in one’s culture naturally encourages foreign interest. “Authentic Chinese cuisine is more than food — it is a bridge between cultures,” another customer says. “It’s time to showcase more of China’s living traditions, allowing the world to see 45 true richness of Chinese culture.”

It was a rainy Tuesday afternoon. Li Ming, a freshman in senior high school, sat alone in the empty classroom, staring at the test paper on his desk. The red marks on it seemed to be laughing at him. 52 out of 150. It was his third math test in a month, and his third failure.
He thought about his middle school days, when he used to be one of the top students in his class. His teachers always praised him, and his parents often showed off his grades to their friends. But now, everything had changed.
Li Ming put his head down on the desk and closed his eyes. He remembered how excited he had been on the first day of high school. He had promised his mother that he would study hard and get into a good university. But now, that promise felt like a joke. Maybe he was just not smart enough for high school. Maybe he should give up his dream of becoming an engineer.
Just then, the classroom door opened. It was Mr. Zhang, his math teacher. Mr. Zhang was a kind man in his fifties, with glasses and a warm smile. He walked over to Li Ming and sat down beside him.
“I saw your paper, Li Ming,” Mr. Zhang said softly. “Do you want to tell me what’s going on?”
Li Ming hesitated for a moment. Then, all his feelings came out like a flood. He told Mr. Zhang about his frustration, his fear of falling behind, and how he had lost all his confidence.
Mr. Zhang listened patiently. When Li Ming finished, Mr. Zhang said, “Let me tell you a secret. When I was your age, I failed my math test too. In fact, I failed three times in a row.”
Li Ming looked up in surprise. “Really? But you are a math teacher now!”
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
Mr. Zhang smiled and took out an old, yellow notebook from his bag.

【答案】4.B 5.A 6.C 7.D
根据第二段“Born in 1987 in a poor mountain village in Hunan Province, Zhang dropped out of school at 14 and worked as a repair shop apprentice (学徒). He learned engines by taking them apart with his own hands. At 19, eager to prove himself, he chased a TV crew’s car for over 100 kilometers through pouring rain on a broken motorcycle. The crew laughed at him, but his courage earned him a spot on TV. That led to a job as a rider and mechanic.(1987年,张雪出生在湖南一个贫困山村。
根据第三段中的“Realizing he started racing too late to become a champion rider, Zhang changed his goal.(意识到自己接触赛车太晚,无法成为冠军车手,张雪转变了目标。)”
第四段首句“Zhang’s years of devotion to motorcycle engineering has finally borne fruit.(多年深耕摩托车研发的付出终于开花结果。)”
根据文末“His story — from a motorcycle apprentice to a pioneer of Chinese motorsports — proves that passion can move mountains.(他从学徒成长为中国摩托运动先驱的故事证明热爱能够创造奇迹。)”
【答案】8.C 9.D 10.A 11.B
根据第一段中“Although many dishes have been prepared on the International Space Station (ISS), nothing has ever been fermented there. Indeed, given that microgravity and strong energy rays from space might affect the microbial (微生物的) interactions needed for this process, it has always been unclear if fermentation was even possible in space.(尽管国际空间站上已制作过许多菜肴,但从未进行过发酵。事实上,鉴于微重力和来自太空的强烈射线可能会影响这一过程所需的微生物相互作用,发酵在太空中是否可行尚不清楚)”可知,太空环境的特殊条件使发酵变得困难。
9.推理判断题。根据第二段中“They first prepared a ready-to-ferment mixture using cooked soybeans, salt and rice previously fermented. The mixture was separated into three containers and frozen. One remained in Denmark, one went to Massachusetts, and one was sent to Houston for transport to the ISS. All of them fermented for several weeks. (他们首先用煮熟的大豆、盐和事先发酵过的大米准备了一种随时可以发酵的混合物。混合物被分成三个容器并冷冻。一个留在丹麦,一个去了马萨诸塞州,一个被送到休斯顿运往国际空间站。它们都发酵了数周)”可知,研究人员将同样的混合物送到不同地方进行发酵,采用了不同环境下的对比研究。
10.细节理解题。根据第四段中“It also had stronger cheese-like taste, probably resulting from higher concentrations of an acid, a type of chemical.(它还具有更浓郁的奶酪味,可能是由于某种酸(一类化学物质)浓度更高所致)”可知,太空味噌与普通味噌的差异在于有一种浓郁、独特的奶酪味。
根据最后一段“Now that fermentation has been shown to be possible, the door opens for producing other foods for future space travelers. (既然发酵已被证明是可能的,为未来太空旅行者生产其他食物的大门已经打开)”可知,作者认为这项研究打开了未来太空旅行者生产其他食物的大门,说明作者对这项空间发酵研究充满希望。

13.细节理解题。根据第三段中“In the 1980s, NASA did an experiment. They put plants like spider plants in small, sealed(密封的)boxes with polluted air. After many hours, they found that these plants could remove harmful chemicals from the air.( 20世纪80年代,美国国家航空航天局(NASA)进行了一项实验:将吊兰等植物放入密封的小盒子中,里面充满污染空气。经过数小时后,发现这些植物能够从空气中去除有害化学物质。)”可知,NASA 的密封箱实验直接证明了植物能够去除空气中的有害化学物质,即植物可以净化被污染的空气。
14.推理判断题。根据第四段中“Some “living walls”—large walls covered with many plants—can help a little. But they are hard to take care of, and one study found that 60 square centimeters of plants reduced carbon dioxide by less than 2%.(一些“绿墙”——即覆盖着大量植物的大墙——或许能起到一定帮助作用。但这类植物养护起来比较麻烦,一项研究发现,60平方厘米的植物仅能减少不到2%的二氧化碳。)”可推知,植物墙对空气净化的作用微乎其微,实际减排效果不足 2%,说明其净化效果十分有限。
15.细节理解题。根据最后一段“So, enjoy your plants for their beauty and the joy they bring. But if you really want cleaner air at home, it is better to use an electric air purifier instead.( 因此,不妨欣赏植物的美丽以及它们带来的愉悦感。但如果真的想让家中空气更清新,最好还是使用电动空气净化器。)”可知,作者明确建议,若想真正改善室内空气质量,使用电动空气净化器效果更好。

固定搭配be determined to do sth.

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
Mr. Zhang smiled and took out an old, yellow notebook from his bag.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
From that day on, Li Ming did something different every day after school.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
