Many houses were ruined and roads blocked, making local residents’ lives extremely tough. However, touching scenes appeared everywhere and struck me deeply. Neighbors worked side by side to carry heavy supplies. Volunteers arriving from all directions rushed to distribute food and water that were badly needed by the locals. Even kids gave away toys they treasured to homeless people. Their sincere kindness filled me with hope. This touching experience leaves a lasting impression on me. Natural disasters are cruel and destructive, yet the warmth of humanity always creates endless hope. 第二节 【答案】【参考范文】 “Remember what we have learned?” Mrs. Brown tried to calm the students down. She stopped Tom and quickly observed around as she shouted clear instructions: “Drop down onto your hands and knees! Cover your head and neck with your hands, arms or hard objects! Hide under your desks and hold on to their legs tight!” Inspired by her calmness, the panicked students gradually followed her words. Meanwhile, Mrs. Brown quickly opened the classroom door in case it became damaged and could not open. There were loud crashes of glass breaking and things falling to the ground, but the students remained still and waited calmly and quietly. The moment the shaking stopped, Mrs. Brown sensed it was the best time to escape. She signaled to her students to form two orderly lines as practiced, exiting the classroom and moving swiftly downstairs, covering their heads with their hands. Within two minutes, the whole class went downstairs and rushed to the playground. Soon students from other classes arrived too. All were safe and sound. The children could no longer hold back their emotions. They hugged each other, laughing and crying. All children, including Tom, finally understood the knowledge they learned in class and the seemingly boring practices had all turned into the power to protect their lives when danger struck. What clothes did you buy? I was lucky, self confidence. What I first arrived, I was a bit worried about making mistakes. I was frightened I might put the children in danger because of my inexperience. What's the best thing about your work? One thing I like is seeing them have so much fun, even if sometimes their behavior isn't perfect. And I can suggest activities that haven't been tried before, but there are always some children who haven't quite got as much ability as others. And for me, the most rewarding part of the job is getting them to succeed in things they haven't managed to do before. It's hard work though. Sometimes you are on duty . at night. What do you think about that? Well, I can't say. I look forward to starting work at ten o'clock P. M, but the kids have to be looked after twenty four hours, so someone has to do IT and all the staff take turns. Small for my age, and more of a bookworm than a sports enthusiast, I had suffered that special humiliation of being picked last for various gym teams. The Field Day, which focused on individual skills, was different. In the Softball Throw event, I got my first taste of sporting victory. Credit goes to the example of my first coach, my father. He lifted weights every morning at home. He bought us all baseball gloves and hats, and in the warm months, we spent hours playing catch. Come fall, our backyard football games began with passing practice. Once I got to sixth grade and switched to private school, our entire student body was assigned to either the Red or the White team. Throughout the year, we competed against each other in various games and exercises for points. I eventually became president of The Committee of Games, accelerating (加速) my competitive fever. However, in girls’ sports games at my school, I was no star. I also played on the field hockey team and the basketball team. School sports did not bleed into the weekends, as they do today, but at home, playing tennis, skating, skiing and biking were simply normal things we did. During break time, magazines were also quite popular for us teens. These regularly featured articles on physical exercise. Somehow, my college roommate and I took up the habit of completing Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) exercises every day, a practice that continued into my marriage, when we had no spare funds to use to join a gym. So, though it shocks some of our friends, that early foundation evolved (演变) in adulthood into a sports and fitness focus, considered essential even on vacation. I still love reading and the arts, too. As far as I’m concerned, life is the richest with my feet in both worlds. 24.What does the underlined word “humiliation” mean in Paragraph 1? A.Responsibility B.Panic C.Shame D.Desire 25.What did the author owe her victory in the Softball Throw event to? A.Her advanced sports outfits. B.Her confidence in her sports ability. C.The sports talent passed down from her father. D.The example and training offered by her father. 26.What happened after the author stepped into adulthood? A.She generally exercised on weekends. B.She joined Royal Canadian Air Force. C.She preferred reading to exercising. D.She kept her love for sports. 27.What is the author’s purpose in writing the article? A.To describe how her father built her interest in sports. B.To recall her childhood memories about sports. C.To express her passion for sports and fitness. D.To stress the benefits of physical exercise. C The Art of Budget Overseas Travel Nowadays, travelling has become a popular lifestyle choice for people from all walks of life. After busy work, more people prefer long-distance travel to relax themselves. Different from travelers in the past, modern tourists are more rational and pay special attention to budget management during their trips. Overseas travel is no longer a rare luxury for ordinary people. Thanks to convenient flight services and various transportation choices, visiting different continents has become easier than ever before. However, a satisfying overseas trip cannot be achieved without careful preparation and reasonable budget planning. Before departure, wise travelers will make full practical preparations. They will confirm flight time and transfer stations in advance to avoid unexpected travel delays. It is also necessary to design a proper travel route and prepare lightweight luggage for a more comfortable journey. In addition, carrying both cash and credit cards is a good choice, because different shops and scenic spots accept different payment methods. Meanwhile, travelers need to apply for a visa from the local embassy and list all necessary daily items ahead of time. During overseas trips, travelers can enjoy amazing natural scenery, including grand volcanoes, lively wild deer and vast grasslands. Many tourists love exploring remote mountain areas with original landscapes. They often hike in wild mountains, take photos of local wild animals and experience the beauty of nature closely. Besides natural scenery, they can visit indigenous settlements to experience local customs, taste special local food and visit unique art galleries. Apart from sightseeing, travelers can take part in various local social activities. They may buy delicate souvenirs to record their precious travel memories, rest in stylish roadside cafés and buy daily supplies in local chain supermarkets. Some tourists even take part in short-term volunteer work locally. For sports lovers, watching local soccer matches is also a wonderful experience. Most travelers believe that travel is far more than simple sightseeing. It is a precious spiritual quest for freedom, helping them enrich their life experience and broaden their horizons. 28.What is a major feature of modern travelers? The strong and fast-growing crop is seen by the East African government as having real growth possibility. Along a 3-kilometer stretch of the river Rwizi, environment protection officers recently planted new bamboo seedlings (幼苗) and cleared room for last year’s survivors to grow. The river Rwizi is the most important river in western Uganda that includes the major city of Mbarara. A successful bamboo forest would protect the river against sand miners, farmers and others whose activities have long threatened it. “Once bamboo is established, it is almost like a net,” said Jeconious Musingwire. He is an environment officer, who is the project’s technical advisor. “The roots trap everything, including the surface runoff, and stabilize the weaknesses of the banks.” The Ugandan government has set a 10-year policy that calls for planting 300,000 hectares of bamboo. Most of it will be planted on private land by 2029 as part of wider reforestation efforts. A single bamboo pole brings in a little less than a dollar, so farmers need to grow a lot to earn enough. Bamboo promoters are urging them to see a bamboo plantation as the same kind of money-making crop as coffee or tea. Banks are offering bamboo “plantation capital” to clients, loans that allow them to plant large forests of bamboo. Bamboo plants are normally ready for harvesting in three to five years. A well-maintained plantation can be useful for at least 50 years, said Jacob, a crop production expert working with the large Kitara Farm. He said bamboo is easy to manage, and usually does not need spraying with pesticide (杀虫剂). Steve Tusiime owns a bamboo nursery. It has sold fewer than 10,000 seedlings in the past two years. But, Tusiime said, “Bamboo is going to be a game changer in Africa. You can eat bamboo, you can use it to build, create a bamboo industry, you can feed it to your animals, and it can take care of your land.” 32.What is the importance of planting bamboo according to Jeconious Musingwire? A.It helps improve the soil for crops. B.It is beneficial to the environment. C.It can be profitable for about 50 years. D.It is useful to develop the local economy. 33.What can we infer from the last paragraph? A.People in Uganda are showing interest in growing bamboo. B.Steve Tusiime makes much money with the bamboo nursery in growing bamboo. C.Bamboo industry will help people in Uganda make more money. D.Bamboo is helpful to reduce poverty and hunger in Africa. 34.What can be the best title for the passage? A.Bamboo forests can improve the environment B.Farmers can earn money by planting bamboo C.Uganda makes a 10-year plan on development D.Uganda makes great effort to plant bamboo 35.What is the author’s attitude towards the development of bamboo farming in Uganda? A.Doubtful. B.Neutral. C.Optimistic. D.Critical. How to Show Respect Whether you’re talking to your best friend or a stranger, respecting them shows that you’re kind and thoughtful. Here are some easy ways to show respect in your life. Listen to others. 36 Watch and be quiet when someone else is talking. Nod your head and ask follow-up questions to stay focused in the conversation. Even if you disagree, try to consider the point of view before responding. Confirm people’s opinions. When you’re talking to someone, confirm their opinions in your own words. You can also mention their achievements to let them know you see how hard they’ve worked. You could say something like, “What you just said was really cool. 37 ” Or, “I can tell you’ve worked very hard to get your business off the ground.” Apologize when you’re in the wrong. It shows a great deal of maturity (成熟). If you mess up, a simple “I’m sorry” goes a long way. Try not to make excuses for yourself. 38 For example, if you forgot a deadline, you could say, “I’m really sorry. I’ll be setting reminders so this doesn’t happen again.” 39 Stick to your word. If you commit (承诺) to an event or make plans with someone, come through on your end of the deal. Being reliable shows respect for people’s time. Have your materials in order and complete all the necessary work ahead of time. Just say no if you can’t commit. 40 A.Do what you say you’ll do. B.Wait to talk instead of merely listening. C.I can tell you’ve thought a lot about this topic. D.It can be tough at first, but it’s better to be honest. E.Practice active listening to show you respect others. C.Approaching wild animals. 【答案】17.C 18.B 19.B 20.A 【原文】Good morning, everyone. Before we set off on our annual week-long hiking trip, I’ll be telling you everything you’ll need to know. First, you don’t need to worry about carrying a tent since we’ll be sleeping in shelters, but you’ll need a warm sleeping bag. Also, part of the fee you’ve paid goes toward food, so you won’t need to put that on your list either. Walking poles can get in the way when too many hikers are using them, so it’s best to leave those at home. The most important item is a comfortable pair of boots. Even flat-heeled shoes and sneakers aren’t adequate for the type of hiking we’ll be doing. Next, I’ll repeat the rules. As you know, there’ll be a leader walking at the head of the line, who will show the group the way. At the end of the line will be another leader. It’s important to stay ahead of this person. When you come to the crossroads, stop and wait for the rest of the group to catch up. We’ll be climbing through some steep and rocky areas. Don’t be tempted to go on your own. Also, it is possible that we’ll encounter some wild animals along the way. The last thing you want to do is try to feed any of them. Are there any questions? A Are you tired of your daily routine? 根据第一段中的“Small for my age, and more of a bookworm than a sports enthusiast, I had suffered that special humiliation of being picked last for various gym teams.(我在同龄人中个头偏小,比起运动爱好者,我更像个书呆子,我遭受过体育课各种队伍最后被选中的特殊humiliation)”可知,在体育课上最后被挑选是一件令人难堪、丢脸的事情。 根据第一段中的“In the Softball Throw event, I got my first taste of sporting victory. Credit goes to the example of my first coach, my father. He lifted weights every morning at home. He bought us all baseball gloves and hats, and in the warm months, we spent hours playing catch. Come fall, our backyard football games began with passing practice.(在垒球投掷项目中,我第一次体验到运动胜利的滋味。这归功于我的第一位教练,也就是我的父亲。他每天在家举重,给我们买棒球手套和帽子,温暖时节陪我们练接球,秋天陪我们在后院练习传球)”可知,作者将自己的胜利归功于父亲的榜样作用和日常训练。 26.细节理解题。根据最后一段中的“So, though it shocks some of our friends, that early foundation evolved in adulthood into a sports and fitness focus, considered essential even on vacation.(所以,尽管让一些朋友感到惊讶,这份早年的运动基础在成年后演变成对运动和健身的专注,即便在假期也必不可少)”可知,作者成年后依然保持着对体育运动的热爱。 27. 根据第一段中“The first time I realized that I had a love for sports competitions was during the Field Day in elementary school.(我第一次意识到我对体育比赛的热爱是在小学的Field Day期间)”和最后一段“So, though it shocks some of our friends, that early foundation evolved in adulthood into a sports and fitness focus, considered essential even on vacation.(因此,尽管这让我们的一些朋友感到震惊,但早期的基础在成年后演变成了一种专注于运动和健身的方式,即使在度假时也被认为是必不可少的)”以及文章内容可知,本文主要讲述了作者从小热爱体育,并且在父亲的指导和培训下第一次尝到了运动胜利的滋味。 C The Art of Budget Overseas Travel Nowadays, travelling has become a popular lifestyle choice for people from all walks of life. D.Critical. 根据第二段中“A successful bamboo forest would protect the river against sand miners, farmers and others whose activities have long threatened it. “Once bamboo is established, it is almost like a net,” said Jeconious Musingwire. He is an environment officer, who is the project’s technical advisor. “The roots trap everything, including the surface runoff, and stabilize the weaknesses of the banks.”(一片成功的竹林将保护河流免受采砂工、农民和其他人的破坏,这些人的活动长期以来对河流造成威胁。“一旦竹子被种植,它几乎就像一张网,”Jeconious Musingwire说。他是一名环境官员,也是该项目的技术顾问。“树根困住了一切,包括地表径流,还能稳固堤岸疏松的部分。”)”可知,Jeconious Musingwire认为竹子种植的重要性体现在对生态环境的保护作用。 33.推理判断题。根据最后一段Steve Tusiime的话“Bamboo is going to be a game changer in Africa. You can eat bamboo, you can use it to build, create a bamboo industry, you can feed it to your animals, and it can take care of your land.(竹子将改变非洲的格局。你可以食用竹子,可以用竹子建房,可以打造竹子产业,还可以用它喂牲畜,同时它还能养护你的土地。)”可知,竹子产业用途广泛,能够带动乌干达发展,帮助当地人获得更多收入。 34.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段第一句“Bamboo farming is on the rise in Uganda.(乌干达的竹子种植正在兴起。)” How to Show Respect Whether you’re talking to your best friend or a stranger, respecting them shows that you’re kind and thoughtful. C.I can tell you’ve thought a lot about this topic. D.It can be tough at first, but it’s better to be honest. E.Practice active listening to show you respect others. F.Excuses are useless if you want to correct your mistakes. Surrounded by lush (繁茂的) green trees and blooming (盛开的) flowers, the five-story teaching building looked bright and lively. Warm sunlight streamed through the windows, gently lighting up the classroom and the wooden desks. High up in the trees, a group of little birds chirped (啾鸣) happily on the branches, making the whole campus full of vitality (生机). In Classroom 103 on the fourth floor, Mrs. Brown was giving a geography lesson. Pointing at a vivid picture on the screen, she explained, “The Earth’s plates move extremely slowly. When they collide (碰撞) with one another, earthquakes may occur. Always remember that when an earthquake strikes (来袭), staying calm is the first step to self-rescue. Then you should…” At Falmont Primary School, earthquake safety lectures were held monthly, and emergency evacuation (紧急疏散) procedures were practiced twice every semester. “Not again! We have never experienced an earthquake. Is all this practice really necessary?” Tom whispered quietly to his deskmate Lisa. “You can never be too careful,” Lisa replied, keeping her eyes on her notes and listening attentively (专注地). Bored with the repeated lecture, Tom looked out of the window. All of a sudden, he spotted flocks of birds flying away in panic, as if some disaster was approaching. Immediately, a deafening (震耳欲聋的) roar, like a thunderous rushing train, came from the north. The ground began to shake slightly at first, but in a split second, the whole classroom shook violently. Dust fell from the ceiling in large quantities, lights swung wildly from side to side, and the sharp crash of broken glass echoed (回响) through the room. “It’s an earthquake!” Lisa shouted, her voice trembling with fear. Hearing the warning, Tom jumped to his feet, screaming and attempting to rush out of the classroom. Panic quickly swept over the whole class. Some students froze in their seats, turning pale with terror; others cried loudly, covering their ears tightly. In an instant, the entire class fell into total disorder (混乱). “Remember what we have learned?” ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The moment the shaking stopped, Mrs. Brown sensed it was the best time to escape. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】【参考范文】 “Remember what we have learned?” Mrs. 词汇激活 行为类 ①发出清晰的指令:shouted clear instructions/gave clear commands ②跑:rush/dash 情绪类 ①恐慌的:panicked/frightened/terrified ②激励:inspire/motivate 【点睛】【高分句型1】Inspired by her calmness, the panicked students gradually followed her words. 2】They hugged each other, laughing and crying.
