Life is easy, change is easy, and everything is easy. If only this was true.
Not too long ago, I was faced with what appeared to be a brick wall. After leaving a company for greener pastures (草原), I found that the other side wasn’t any greener, nor did there seem to be any grass. No matter what I attempted to do, I was always knocked back to square one. So I started another project, again to be knocked back to square one.
I began to doubt my own confidence; maybe I had made a dreadful error. Maybe I should go back to what I did before. At least, it seemed to be a much more secure environment. As I considered my future, I received a card in the mail from a friend who knew how I was struggling. The card read, “Perseverance prevails when all else fails.”
I sat there reading that card, once, twice, three times. What did these words mean? When you’re faced with an uncertain future, when all you try seems to go nowhere, maybe there was more meaning behind these words than I realized. Have you ever heard the expression “back up and reload”? It meant that I should start again but this time I should internalize the words on the card.
To make a long story short, I did persevere; perseverance paid off with great patience. And I realized that a new beginning doesn’t lead to success overnight. After all, in my former career, I had devoted years of education and training to becoming successful. Why should it be any different when I started a new project?
Failure is the incapacity to learn from your mistakes. Success is the capacity to learn, to persevere in order to reach your goal. Life can be filled with failure, but only those who don’t persevere adopt failure as the way it has to be.

C.To reflect on his failures. D.To rebuild his confidence.
7.What is the primary message conveyed in this passage?
A.Success is man’s blessing.
B.Success merely happens in a new subject.

It’s not common for student-led inventions to make international news. But when a project brings real connection to people’s lives, it makes sense the world takes notice.
Elly Savatia, a senior student from Kenya, has created Terp 360, a web-based app that translates spoken language into sign language using AI-powered 3D images. It’s a bit like Google Translate — but designed specifically to give deaf users real-time sign language help, without the need for a human interpreter (翻译).
“To work, study or see a doctor, you have to communicate,” Savatia explained. “But the deaf community is often left behind.” He spent months recording common sign language moves and testing if the app’s translations were clear — closing this gap was his main goal.
Earlier this month, the invention got international recognition. Savatia got £50,000 from the UK’s Royal Academy of Engineering, winning the Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation (创新). His project beat three other finalists from across Africa. The judges were impressed not just by the technology, but more by its real effect. “What really stood out is the level of innovation,” shares Rebecca Enonchong, the head of the judging panel (评审团). “It shows Africans can use advanced technology to solve problems, not just in Africa but around the world.”
What makes Terp 360 so powerful isn’t just the technology. It’s the heart behind it. Savatia developed the app together with Kenyan deaf people, making sure it fits their real needs. Now it supports Kenyan Sign Language and Swahili. He plans to add more, like Ugandan, Rwandan, South African, British and American Sign Languages by 2027.
And that’s what makes this story so heartening: caring for others in action. In a world full of digital noise, Terp 360 reminds us that technology can still serve something deeply human — the simple but powerful act of understanding each other.
8.What is Terp 360 mainly designed for?
A.Recording Kenyan sign languages. B.Translating sign language to texts.
C.Offering speech-to-sign translation. D.Teaching international sign languages.
9.What impressed the judges most about Terp 360?

10.What helps Savatia make sure Terp 360 meets users’ needs?
A.Funding from the UK Academy. B.Support from the local government.
C.Teaming up with the deaf community. D.Recognition from global organizations.
11.Which of the following can best describe Savatia?
A.Creative and kind-hearted. B.Curious and humorous.
C.Brave and responsible. D.Confident and outgoing.

Whether it’s biting your nails, or going to bed at 2 a.m., we all have those annoying habits we just can’t seem to kick. But have you ever wondered why these bad habits keep winning the battle against your best efforts and intentions?
Humans are creatures of habit, and our brains love doing things the same way. That’s why bad habits grow easily in the repeated actions like absentmindedly reaching for a cigarette. Another reason why your bad habits keep winning is that they often provide a quick dopamine (多巴胺) fix, creating a desire that keeps you coming back for more. Think of the immediate relaxation from a cigarette or mindless snacking. The payoff for doing these things is quick and easy, which is exactly what makes them so hard to break.
So what can you do? There are two main problems with breaking bad habits. First, it’s not as enjoyable as giving in to them. When we try to resist, there’s no pleasure, no dopamine and therefore no encouragement to keep doing so. Rather than trying to remove them entirely, try to replace them with something healthier instead, or create a reward system for yourself to introduce the positive behaviour.
Second, a habit is often an unconscious (无意识的) action, so making it conscious changes it into a choice. You’d better start with an intentional action. Accepting your actions without judgement helps you stay apart from the emotions that keep you tied to those habits, like guilt, shame and dissatisfaction. This increased awareness will lead you to make more intentional choices and break the automatic cycle of bad habits.
Knowing the psychology behind why your bad habits keep winning hopefully gets you to make more conscious, positive choices, and build the foundation for lasting behaviour change.
12.How does the writer introduce the topic?
A.By listing numbers. B.By explaining a reason.
C.By voicing an opinion. D.By raising a question.
13.What makes bad habits hard to break?
A.People’s desire to keep fit.
B.Little knowledge of their effects.
C.Quick and easy satisfaction provided by them.
D.People’s unwillingness to change.
14.What is a problem with breaking bad habits?
A.It is a conscious action. B.It is painful.
C.It takes much time. D.It calls for wisdom.
15.What can help kick a bad habit according to the passage?
A.Make active efforts. B.Judge your actions.
C.Ignore it. D.Turn to others for help.

How Do You Motivate Seniors to Use Technology?
Motivating your elderly loved ones to welcome technology with open arms isn’t easy. Before you give up on them, remember that it’s not about forcing them. 16 Here are some suggestions for how to approach with patience and a focus on the benefits.
17 Instead of just telling them to follow the times, we need to show how tech makes their life better. Will it help them connect with family? Access important information? Take up a hobby? Make their lives easier? It’s important to focus on practical benefits, not cold features.
Find their sweet spot. Not every senior wants to be an online influencer. 18 If a grandpa loves reading, teach him to use e-reading apps; if a grandma likes chatting, introduce her to simple social software. This kind of personalized guidance can make them feel that tech is close to their life and easy to master.
Celebrate small wins. Did grandma finally send her first text message? Did grandpa figure out how to turn on the air conditioner on his smart home device? Make a big deal out of it! 19
Be patient. Seniors may need repeated explanations. Use simple words and even a little humor. 20 Remember, it might take many tries before they feel confident. Your calm support makes all the difference.
With these gentle ways, seniors will gradually open their hearts to technology and enjoy a more convenient life with it.
A.Start with the “why”.
B.Keep instructions simple.
C.It’s never late for the elderly to learn new things.
D.They can make the learning process much more relaxed.
E.It’s about showing them how tech can improve their lives.
F.You’d better offer your tech suggestions based on their interests and needs.
G.Every small progress they make deserves sincere praise and recognition from you.

Every girl dreams and Jenny Green is no exception. She loved music and movement of ballet and read dozens of books on how to be a ballerina (芭蕾舞女演员) but she was a shy child and avoided the spotlight.
When she was 13, she joined the training team, a dance line at her school in San Pedro, California. One day, Jenny’s coach suggested she attend a free ballet class at the Boys & Girls Club, where she often went after school. At first, Jenny felt out of place in the class. She was older than most of the students. And instead of the tights, slippers, and leotards (训练服) the other girls wore, Jenny had on a T-shirt, baggy shorts, and sweat socks.
Over time, however, she began to enjoy the lessons. She discovered that her body — especially her long legs and strong, flexible muscles — was just right for ballet. She spent most days twisting, twirling, and leaping. When she wasn’t performing, she was practicing. When she wasn’t practicing, she was stretching. She took classes almost every day and hoped one day her dream would come true.
One day she saw an advertisement that a famous ballerina troupe (剧团) would be performing in her hometown. Her thoughts ran wild, “I must meet up with the leader of the troupe and show her my skills,” she murmured to herself. She dressed herself in her ballerina costume and managed to escape the guards and hid in the dressing room. To her luck the leader entered and she shyly knocked at the door. She bravely approached her and handed her a bunch of red roses.
The leader observed her action as she told her the dream. “Alright, you dance and I will give you my opinions.” But half way through the dance she stopped her and said, “I’m sorry you’re not good enough!”
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
On hearing this, Jenny ran as fast as her legs could carry her and was ashamed.

Dear Sir or Madam,
I’m Li Hua, a senior high school student. Knowing that our city will hold the Intangible Cultural Heritage exhibition next week and recruit volunteers, I’m writing to apply for the volunteer position.
I am fully qualified for this job. First of all, I have a good command of English, which allows me to communicate smoothly with foreign visitors. Besides, I have taken part in several similar voluntary activities before, so I have rich working experience.
If I am lucky enough to be admitted, I will devote myself to the service and introduce our traditional culture well. I sincerely hope to get this precious chance.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
47.One possible version:
On hearing this, Jenny ran as fast as her legs could carry her and was ashamed. She felt that all her efforts were in vain. Tears welled up in her eyes as she rushed out. But instead of giving up, she practiced even harder. She knew that she still had a long way to go. She took every class seriously, analyzing every movement and learning from every mistake. She was determined to prove that she could be a good ballerina one day. She practiced early in the morning and late at night, her body becoming more and more flexible and her skills improving significantly.
A year later, she heard that the same ballet troupe was performing in her town again. This time, she was much more confident. She managed to get a chance to perform in front of the troupe leader again. She danced gracefully and passionately. After the performance, the leader looked at her with admiration and said, “You’ve improved a great deal. I’m glad to invite you to join our troupe.” Jenny’s dream finally came true.
