Gregg Bleakney’s dream was to travel around America. He got the idea after he finished a long bike ride. His friend, Brooks Allen, also liked riding a bike. Last summer Mom and I went camping in Namibia to spend our holiday. It was my first time camping and my first visit to Namibia. My mom knew the country. When she was young, she had been there with a cousin, and she showed great happiness to go back there again.
The campsite (露营地) was beautiful, with a big swimming pool. Campsites usually have showers, but when we got there, we found that this one had a real bath (浴缸)—I couldn’t believe it. Also, we didn’t need to make our own meals because there was a cook making food for us in an outdoor kitchen. I was always tired in the evenings, and I couldn’t wait to get into my little camp bed. Every night I lay there listening to all the animals. They were really noisy, so sleeping wasn’t effortless. However, hearing them was one of the best things about the holiday.
We also saw a lot of animals. One day we found a lion family and stopped to watch them. Unluckily, they were sleeping by a tree, and I couldn’t get any good photos of them. They didn’t look scary, but our guide didn’t let us get close.

It was a great holiday, and I fell in love with camping. Now I know how interesting camping is. I think I’ll try it in my own country with some friends, maybe as soon as next summer.

Summer is known for the hot weather and holidays. It’s a great time for us to relax and connect with nature. This year our family decided to go for a summer trip to a hill station (山地避暑胜地). Many beautiful places in India are known for their natural beauty, such as Wilson Hills, Kufri and Kerala. After a long discussion about which hill station to go for, we finally selected Shimla.
We drove there and arrived in the morning. Then, we went to the hotel that we had booked. Shimla has many things for tourists to enjoy, such as beautiful places and shopping streets full of people from different countries.
We planned the trip for 5 days. On the afternoon of the first day, we went to the shopping streets and Jakhu hills. They are the main tourist spots (旅游景点) in the city. Many activities were going on there and then we enjoyed the amazing nightlife of Shimla. The next day, we traveled on a toy train. The toy train runs from Kalka to Shimla. There are only 3 such trains in India, and one of them is here.
It’s funny to travel on the train even though it runs slowly. The next 3 days were spent visiting places near Shimla, like Chail, Kufri, and Chitkul. We tried some snow sports in these places while enjoying their natural beauty.
