教学过程
Step 1. Lead-in
1. Teacher’s greeting and introduction of this unit and John.
2. Picture-guided questioning.
3. Display the photo of the two girls on the screen.
4. Raise questions as John’s message: "Look at this photo. Think about these questions: What
is the possible relationship between the two girls? What do they have in common? How are they different from each other?"
5. Provide sample answers to guide the direction of thinking.
6. Lead to the core of the lesson: "To talk about differences, we need to ‘compare ’. Today, we will learn how to compare people and use the right language."
【设计意图:通过 AI 人物形象,拉近学生与主题之间的距离。引导学生观察和讨论两个女 孩的相关信息,考察学生的观察和表达能力,进而初步感知主题。】
Step 2. Presentation
1. Introduce new words.
(1) Present new words (loud, shy, outgoing, lazy, hard-working, late, early, fast, slow, tall, short, funny, boring) with word cards and pictures.
(2) Explain the meaning and pronunciation of key words.
(3) Opposites matching: ask students to match each word with its opposite (as in 1a).
(4) Check the answers together and present them on the screen: "fast-slow, shy-outgoing,
late-early, tall-short, lazy-hard-working, loud-quiet, funny-boring."
2. Listen for locations and set the scene.
(1) Display the choices on the screen. Guide students to "underline key words" (e.g., "club", "festival") to improve listening efficiency.
(2) Play the audio clip for 1b. After playing, present the correct answers.
3. Listen for detailed information.
(1) Introduce the task: "Let’s listen again to fill in the blanks and understand what they are talking about."
(2) Play the audio clip for 1c. After playing, share the key information and explain key phrases and words.(be afraid of doing sth. & alone, Ella and Emma's show& Ella’s and Emma's shows)
4. Display descriptions about Chen Jie, Peter, Ella, and Emma on the screen.
Guide students to "match the descriptions with the characters" and circle the comparative forms (better, harder, more outgoing, shyer, taller, louder, longer) in 1d.
5. Summarize Comparative Structures.
(1) Analyze the circled words.
(2) Summarize and explain sentence structures with examples:
"A + be + adjective comparative + than + B" (e.g., "Chen Jie is shyer than Peter." "Emma is taller than Ella.")
"A + have/has + adjective comparative + noun + than + B" (e.g., "Ella has longer hair than Emma." "Judy has bigger eyes than Peter.")
"A + verb + adverb comparative + than + B" (e.g., "Emma sings louder than Ella." "Ella dances better than Emma." "Peter can run faster than Judy.")
【设计意图:通过循序渐进的活动,让学生逐步认识形容词和副词的比较级, 以及巧用比较 级相关句型来讨论二人区别。】
Step 3. Practice
1. Dialogue Making
(1) Provide model dialogues.
(2) Present 3 model dialogues based on 1d on the screen:
—Is Ella taller than Emma? —No, she is shorter than Emma.
—Who dances better, Ella or Emma? —Ella dances better than Emma.
—Who is more outgoing, Chen Jie or Peter? —Peter is more outgoing than Chen Jie.
(3) Extended Practice:
Encourage students to create more dialogues using other descriptions (e.g., "—Who sings louder, Ella or Emma? —Emma sings louder than Ella." "—Does Chen Jie work harder than Peter? —Yes, she does.").
Remind students to use the correct comparative structures and vocabulary.
2. Task-based Activity: Help David with self-introduction.
(1) Introduce the task: "John’s friend David will move to the UK with his brother Leo. He needs to make a self-introduction about their differences. Let’s help him by using what we’ve
learned."
(2) Display David and Leo’s information on the screen:
Looks: David is taller than Leo; Leo is fatter than David; David has longer hair than Leo; Leo has shorter hair than David; David has smaller eyes than Leo.
Personalities: David is more outgoing than Leo; Leo is funnier than David. Hobbies: David likes playing basketball; Leo enjoys playing chess.
(3) Guide to organize information:
Ask students to organize the information into sentences. For example: "David is taller than Leo, but Leo is fatter than David."
"David is more outgoing than Leo, while Leo is funnier than David." "David likes playing basketball, but Leo enjoys playing chess."
Encourage combining multiple points to make the self-introduction more coherent.
【设计意图:通过阅读对话,创编对话以及介绍人物的形式,让学生学会用形容词和副词比 较级来介绍自己或者他人。】
Step 4. Pronunciation
1. Play pronunciation audio clip and ask students to imitate.
2. Explain intonation rules.
3. Imitate and Practice: read sample sentences with different intonations and ask students to
imitate.
【设计意图:通过听教材录音、跟读等方式,让学生感受发音规律,从而掌握标准的语音语 调。】
Step 5. Summary
Step 6. Homework
1. Make some new dialogues based on 1b.
2. Talk about the differences between you and your friends.
【设计意图:通过对句型、语法的回顾,巩固学生的学习成果,最后通过情感升华进行总结, 保持情境的连贯性。布置作业,为接下来的学习奠定基础。】
