The movie was expected to achieve a remarkable screening rate (排片率) of 99.7% on its opening day. Millions of people have expressed interest in watching it. Its popularity comes from two main reasons: First, it helps us remember a painful part of history that we must not forget. Second,2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist (反法西斯的) War, which makes people reflect more on history.
This movie serves as an important educational tool that teaches us to value peace. However, due to some intense (激烈的、强烈的) and disturbing scenes, the film is recommended for viewers above 18 years old. Younger viewers should watch it with parental guidance.

We live in a society that judges our happiness by how much we have achieved and how successful we are. We are often told, “Work hard, become successful, and then you`ll be happy.” Is it true?
Can Success Bring Happiness?
Happiness helps you get success; it’s not the other way around. Studies show happier people are more likely to be successful, but successful people are predictably not more cheerful. When you are happier, you feel more hopeful, thankful, and strong-minded, which are important for success. As a result, you have a better chance of getting better jobs and even building stronger relationships.
Success can cause a short-term increase in happiness, but it cannot guarantee a lasting one. Shortly after achieving success, you return to your usual level of happiness. Moreover, depending on success for happiness often adds pressure, stress and negativity to every part of our lives. In conclusion, chasing (追求) happiness and well-being is better than running after success.
___△___
Positive psychology says that happiness is both how good we feel in the present moment and how good we feel when we look at our lived lives. Trying to lead a happy life is not always about refusing our negative emotions or acting as if we feel happy all the time. We all experience difficult periods, and it’s natural for us to feel sad, angry, and other negative emotions. Happiness is about being able to embrace (接受) the good times, but it’s also about dealing with the unavoidable bad times.
Is Happiness Being Satisfied With What You Have?
Does the thought of “not having enough” trouble you all the time? Are you always chasing something bigger and better? At the end of the day, that kind of chase can undoubtedly leave anyone empty and tired. And in that process, you are missing out on getting happiness from plenty of things you have right now. Instead of focusing on getting more, you need to focus on all you have in your life at the present moment. When you start sharing what you have, you find your happiness continuously increasing.
Sure, you can work hard for success. But success won’t necessarily lead to happiness. True happiness is in the climb itself. So, focus on being happy right now. Be proud of where you are in life and who you are. Be happy first, and embrace the journey to success. Then you’ll be able to achieve more and perform better in many areas of your life, and you’ll also enjoy the journey to your goals.
9. The word “guarantee” in Paragraph 3 is closest in meaning to ________.
A. influence B. require C. promise D. prevent
10. Which of the following would be the best heading for Paragraph 4?
A. When Do You Feel Truly Happy?
B. What Does Happiness Really Mean to You?
C. How Can You Fully Embrace Your Happiness?

A. To help people balance happiness and success.

People love to wear clothes made from cotton because of its breathable comfort. When you enjoy the benefits (好处) it brings, do you know where it comes from? The Indus Valley Civilization (印度河流域文明) is believed to have harvested (收获) cotton for the first time, but China is now the world’s second-largest cotton producer. Xinjiang in the northwest of China is home to the nation’s largest cotton-producing area.
In early September every year, the white hair that grows inside the cotton boll (棉桃). stretches out for more sunlight, as if telling farmers it’s ready to be picked. Harvesting lasts from early September to late October. China produces about 22% of the world’s cotton, of which 87.3% comes from Xinjiang, according to the latest data from the National Bureau of Statistics.
The planting of cotton in Xinjiang dates back to the late Western Han Dynasty. According to historical records, the cotton introduced from West Asia to Xinjiang was the Levant cotton. Cotton soon spread in Xinjiang because of the region’s full sunlight and moderate rainfall, which the plant needs.
Xinjiang is famous for its long-staple cotton (长绒棉), which is popular among customers. In the past, people mainly picked the cotton by hand, but now machines have gradually replaced it. In Xinjiang, nearly 70% of cotton is harvested mechanically (机械化地). The use of machines prevents (防止) the cotton from being polluted and improves its quality (质量).
After bags of cotton are packed and transported to many factories, they become clothes, toys, and others that we see in daily life. Cotton’s versatility (多功能性) has earned it a nickname — “white gold”.
