Ding! You just got a text message, and it said that you won a prize (奖)! All you need to do is click the link in it and fill in your personal information. You’re excited, but it seems that something has gone wrong. So should you see what’s inside or leave the link alone?
You are right to think twice! That’s because some text messages are actually the “smishing (短信诈骗)”, in order to take money away from you secretly.
Cheats (骗子) want you to act without thinking. They achieve this by taking advantage of people’s feelings like fear or excitement. They may say that they are online sellers, bank workers or government workers. But the results are all the same: you lose a lot, and the cheats disappear.
The purpose of most cheats is to steal personal information and money. They may also try to lead you to download some apps. But the apps may be harmful to your mobile phone. Some apps can steal your information and take control of your mobile phone.
It’s reported that over 3.5 million smishing messages are sent out every day. But the cheats have no power over you unless (除非) you trust them. Some cheats even do research on victims (受害者) so that they sound more real.
If you check your message and can’t make sure whether it’s safe, ask yourself these questions: Was I expecting this message? Are there any ways for me to find out who the sender is? Don’t join the millions of people who lose a lot from smishing every year. Stop and think before you click that link.
