范文1:
My favourite Painter
My favourite painter is Xu Beihong, a famous Chinese painter born in 1895. He was an outstanding artist who gained great fame in the first half of the 20th century.
Xu Beihong started learning painting when he was very young. He quickly mastered all kinds of skills of traditional Chinese painting. He also travelled widely and studied art in Japan and France. The experience of learning western art had a deep influence on his creation. He thought traditional Chinese painting would lose its charm if painters refused to try new ways. Therefore, he was willing to create new styles mixing traditional Chinese and western painting methods.
Xu Beihong liked painting animals most, especially horses and birds. My favourite work of his is Ten Horses in Spring Mountains. The horses in this painting look free and full of energy. Every curve and stroke shows his superb painting skills. If you love vivid animal paintings, you will surely fall in love with Xu Beihong’s works. I believe his art will keep its lasting value for hundreds of years.
My Story with Calligraphy
I have fallen in love with Chinese calligraphy for two years. My interest in this traditional art started when my father took me to an art museum. I was shocked by countless elegant ancient calligraphy scrolls on show at that time.
At first, I found it really tough to control the brush. I often made ugly strokes and wanted to give up many times. But my father told me that constant practice makes perfect, so I kept writing every weekend. While practising, I gradually learnt more about the development of Chinese characters. They evolved from simple primitive drawings into today’s forms over thousands of years. Different calligraphy styles have their own unique beauty.
Now calligraphy becomes my best way to relax. When I feel upset or under heavy pressure from study, I will pick up my brush and write quietly. As I move the brush slowly on rice paper, my breath slows down and my mind turns peaceful. Recently, I even finished a set of Spring Festival couplets for my family. When my mother saw my work, she smiled and felt so proud of me.
I will keep practising calligraphy all the time. It is not only a hobby but also a precious part of our traditional culture that we should pass down.

Chinese Paper-cut—An Art of Tradition
Chinese paper-cut is one of the oldest and most popular folk arts in China. It has a history of more than 1,500 years. People use simple tools—scissors and paper—to create beautiful and meaningful artworks.
Paper-cut is often used during festivals and celebrations. During the Spring Festival, people cut out the character “Fu” (meaning good luck and happiness) and paste it upside down on doors or windows. This is because the word “upside down” sounds like “arrive” in Chinese, so it means “good luck arrives”. People also cut out other symbols like fish (meaning surplus), bats (meaning blessings), and lotus flowers (meaning purity).
Paper-cuts are also used as decorations in daily life. They can be seen on windows, walls, and mirrors. In some parts of China, paper-cuts are even used as gifts for friends and family. Each design has its own special meaning.
Today, paper-cut is still a popular art form. Many artists are working hard to pass on this tradition. It is not just a craft—it is a way of expressing hope, happiness, and good wishes.

What kind of opera do you like? As a Chinese, I like Beijing Opera (京剧). I always go to enjoy it in my spare time.
Beijing Opera is a performance art dating back to the late 18th century. It usually includes singing, acting and kungfu. Beijing Opera tells stories of history, society and daily life. By watching it, people can not only have fun, but also gain plenty of knowledge.

Besides Beijing Opera, I also like Italian operas (意大利歌剧) because they can make me feel relaxed. There are around 800 opera houses in Italy. Even if you are not an opera-lover, you may hear about some famous Italian composers (作曲家), such as Vivaldi and Puccini.
China and Italy are far away from each other, but their opera traditions are interconnected (互相联系的) more or less. Italian composer Ciacomo Puccini’s last opera Turandot is set in ancient China. Artwork is lovely to look at and it has the power to make people feel and think differently. But do you know that when people see a real work of art, compared to just looking at a photo of it, they may experience stronger feelings? Scientists carried out a study at the Mauritshuis Museum, the home to Girl with a Pearl Earring, a very famous painting.
① The scientists watched how people reacted (反应) to a few paintings. First, they asked the volunteers to look at the real paintings on show, and then at photos of the art works in the museum shop. ② It showed that their reactions were 10 times stronger when they looked at the real paintings.
③ How did that happen? Through study, people may experience something called the “sustained attentional cycle” when they watch a certain painting. The girl’s left eye first drew the volunteers’ attention, then her mouth, and then her pearl earring. This certain order of eye movements repeated in a cycle. Each time they finished the cycle, their focus became stronger and their connection with Girl with a Pearl Earring was deeper.
④ The director of the Mauritshuis, Martine Gosselink, said that the study shows how important it is to go and see art in real life, whether it’s paintings or dancing. She added, “It really helps develop your brain.” The scientists now want to broaden their study, planning to visit other museums and do research on works like Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci.
37.What’s the purpose of the study?
A.To show different ways to study a painting.
B.To find a better way to help people enjoy the paintings.
C.To find differences between a painting and its photo.
D.To study people’s reactions to real art and its photos.

A.① B.② C.③ D.④
39.Which one shows the relationship between the time people spend in watching a painting(x) and people’s focus(y)?
A. B. C. D.
40.What can we infer from Paragraphs 3 and 4?
A.People’s eye movements stay in a mess when enjoying real paintings.
B.Repeated eye cycles help people connect more with a painting.
C.The scientists have visited other museums for further research.
D.Enjoying real art does good to people’s bodies instead of their brains.
41.Which would be the best title for the text?
A.The Power of Real Works of Art

As one of the most famous landscape paintings in Chinese art history, A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains holds great cultural value for centuries. Created during the Northern Song Dynasty, this masterpiece was the work of Wang Ximeng, a talented young artist.
The painting is a long scroll (卷轴). It is over 11 meters long and 51.5 centimeters tall. Scrolls are a traditional Chinese art form. What makes this painting special is the colors Wang used. He took natural materials from rocks and mixed them with animal glue (胶水). These colors are so good that they still look bright after almost 900 years, even though the painting is easy to break.
In the painting, you can see the beauty from southern China. There are many mountains with sharp tops. Long rivers connect small villages, wooden bridges and fishing boats. You can also find people—some are farming, some are on boats, some are walking. They show how people lived happily with nature back then. This mix of natural beauty and daily life expresses the ancient Chinese idea of “unity (统一) between man and nature”. This means humans and nature are one and should help each other.
Today, this painting is kept in the Palace Museum in Beijing. Museum workers keep it in a box in good temperature and humidity (湿度) — too hot, too cold, or too wet would damage the old silk and colors. I think, because it is easy to break, the museum only shows it sometimes, but it still influences many modern artworks.

The first Chinese film, made in 1905, was the recording (录像) of the Beijing Opera The Battle of Dingjunshan. Tan Xinpei, a master of Beijing Opera, played the leading role in the film. In the early 20th century, Beijing Opera was highly valued and many world-famous stars appeared.
Sugar painting is a traditional Chinese folk art that has a history of over 500 years. People mainly (主要) find the art of sugar painting in the northern part of China. In the past, people often saw it at festivals or in busy markets. People, especially children, loved to watch the artists at work.
To make sugar paintings, artists need special skills. They must be quick because the sugar syrup (糖浆) cools down quickly. They also need to have good ideas to create different shapes. The most popular designs are dragons, phoenixes, and flowers. They are symbols of good luck in Chinese culture.

Tanyapong said, “To make the art, we used a great number of different kinds of seedlings (秧苗) with leaves of different colours. Then we planted them in the right places using GPS coordinates (坐标). Over time, the seedlings grew and the pictures appeared.”
Tanyapong hopes that the art can help attract more tourists and cat lovers to visit the place. “We are expecting tens of thousands to come and see the art in the rice fields,” said Tanyapong.

38.We can put the following sentence “The team found that the group reacted even more strongly to Girl with a Pearl Earring.” in ______.
B.Lessons from Real Works of Art
C.The Way to Enjoy Real Works of Art
D.A Visit to Real Works of Art
