Worried about mosquitoes (蚊子) and diseases like Dengue or Chikungunya fever?
This summer, let’s build a creative mosquito-repellent (防蚊) device to protect ourselves!
Mosquitoes are more than just annoying; they can carry diseases. In Guangdong, we need to be especially careful about viruses like Chikungunya. This makes it important to keep mosquitoes away. This weekend, join us to make a simple but creative “Solar-Powered Mosquito Repeller” FOR FREE. It’s a perfect way to learn about invention and stay healthy at the same time!
Time: 2:30 p.m.—5:00 p.m., Saturday (August 16)
Place: Sunshine Community Center, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou
Please note:
All tools and materials (like small solar panels, safe electronic parts) will be provided as shown in the picture.
For 30 people only. The people must be 12 years old or above. First come, first served.
To book your place for the activity, please call Mr. Li at 020-87654321 by 8:00 p.m. this Friday. For those who want to try making it at home, here are the basic steps:
Connect a small solar panel to a mini fan using safe wires.
Attach a piece of mosquito-repellent paper to the front of the fan.
Carefully make some small holes on the plastic bottle. Place the fan inside the bottle, facing the holes.
Put the bottle where the sun can reach the solar panel. The sun powers the fan, which then blows the repellent smell out through the holes to keep mosquitoes away!

Two Chinese Mathematicians Make History at the 2026 Fields Medal Ceremony
Known as “the Nobel Prize of mathematics”, the 2026 Fields Medals were announced on July 23 at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Philadelphia. Four young scientists got this world’s top prize for math.
Two winners, Deng Yu and Wang Hong, are Chinese and have caught great attention from media around the world. This is an important moment that has never happened before. For the first time, Chinese mathematicians won this award, ending Western countries’ control of this famous prize for many years. Both finished their college studies at Peking University and then went abroad to continue their research.
Given by the International Mathematical Union every four years, the Fields Medal is only open to scientists under 40. Every winner gets two official prizes: a 14-karat gold medal with a picture of Archimedes and 15,000 Canadian dollars. The prize honors important new discoveries in different areas of mathematics.
Deng Yu works as a professor at the University of Chicago. He showed great talent in math when he was young. He won a gold medal in the International Mathematical Olympiad during high school and studied for his bachelor’s degree at Peking University. His important research made great progress on a key problem in Hilbert’s Sixth Problem. He created strict mathematical models to connect tiny molecular movements and large fluid motion, linking pure mathematics and physics.
At the same time, Wang Hong is 35, the youngest winner. She entered Peking University when she was 16. Now she is a Silver Professor at New York University’s Courant Institute. She solved the three-dimensional Kakeya conjecture, a problem no one could work out for a hundred years. It sits at the crossing of harmonic analysis and geometric measure theory. She said her success came from teamwork. Her mathematical ideas help create new developments in cryptography and computer science.
The fact that they both studied at Peking University for college shows that China’s basic mathematics education has made great progress. Their historic success broadens worldwide top-level mathematical research and encourages young people to study basic science subjects.
56.What can we know about the Fields Medal from Paragraph 3?
A. It is given to old and experienced math experts.
B. It rewards creative and valuable math research results.
C. Winners can only get money as their prize.
D. It is held once every five years.
57. What can we learn about Wang Hong’s success?
A. She finished her research all by herself.
B. Her study at a foreign university was the only key to her success.
C. Teamwork played an important role in her achievement.
D. She solved the century-old problem when she was 16.
58.What can we infer from the two mathematicians’ learning experiences?
A. Studying abroad is unnecessary for math learners.
B. Young people can only succeed by solving old math problems.
C. Math talent is the only secret of great researchers.
D. Basic college education in China can lay a solid foundation for top math research.
59. What influence will their achievements bring?
A. More teenagers may become interested in basic science study.
B. All difficult math problems will be solved soon.
C. China’s math education will become perfect overnight.
D. Western math research will stop developing.
60.What is the main idea of the passage?
A. The introduction of the famous Fields Medal in the math field.
B. Two Chinese mathematicians won the Fields Medal and its great meaning.
C. The different learning experiences of two top Chinese scientists.
D. The development of China’s basic mathematics education.

On Monday, October 6th, I celebrated my first Mid-Autumn Festival here in China. Also 66 as the Moon or Mooncake Festival, this celebration starts on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month. It was an unusual 67 as we don’t have this celebration back in America.
A Chinese friend of 68 explained that it is very like America’s Thanksgiving holiday, but it comes from different places. In Chinese culture, the moon is a traditional 69 of family get-together. During this festival, friends and families stay 70 to share mooncakes, the traditional food of the festival.
I have 71 several types of mooncakes as gifts during this mooncake season. The traditional ones have four egg yolks (蛋黄) inside, each standing for a phase (位相) of the moon, 72 the more special ones have beautifully stamped characters on the top.
I have tried several mooncake flavors, 73 the mixed nut kind. They remind me of pecan (山核桃) pie, which is probably the 74 flavor we have in America. My young boys really love mooncakes and interestingly enough, their 75 are the red bean and the ham ones. I think my boys will grow up being part Chinese, at least as far as their stomachs go.

In 2025, the annual "Touching China" awards were announced, and among the ten honored people stood an ordinary couple — Zhao Xingsong and Xie Honglan from Gaoyou, Jiangsu. To most of us, they are just a husband and wife working hard to make a living. Yet their plain story has moved millions of people across the whole country.
Their trouble began years ago. Their only son was found to have malignant bone cancer, and the operation cost nearly one million yuan. For this common family, that was like a mountain no one could move. Day and night, they worried and wept, afraid that their son would be taken away. Just when darkness filled their lives, hope appeared. Thousands of strangers learned their story and rushed to help, donating more than 400,000 yuan to support the operation. Their selfless love became a ray of light in the couple's darkest hours.
However, fate played a cruel joke. In 2020, at only 24, their son lost his fight against the disease and left forever. Heartbroken as they were, the couple made an amazing choice. They decided to return every single yuan of the donations. "No one owes us anything," they said. "People gave us love, and we must return it with honesty."
The next six years were filled with sweat and hardship. The couple worked several part-time jobs at the same time. They ate simple meals, wore old clothes, and saved every coin they could. Slowly, the huge debt became smaller and smaller, until finally it was gone.
Why does their story move us so deeply? Perhaps because they chose honesty when nobody was watching. Perhaps because, in the deepest pain, they never stopped thinking about others. What is even more touching is that they did not stop after paying back the money. They kept volunteering, sending warmth to more people who needed it.
Their spirit shines like a light in the dark. It teaches us that true greatness lies not in wealth or fame, but in keeping a promise and returning kindness. When life knocked them down, they stood up again. And now, they hold the light for others — showing us what courage, honesty, and love truly mean.

Why does their story move us so deeply?Perhaps because they chose honesty when nobody
was watching.Perhaps because,in the deepest pain, they never stopped thinking about others. What
is even more touching is that they did not stop after paying back the money. They kept volunteering,
sending warmth to more people who needed it.
Their spirit shines like a light in the dark.It teaches us that true greatness lies not in wealth or
fame, but in keeping a promise and returning kindness. When life knocked them down, they stood
up again. And now, they hold the light for others-showing us what courage, honesty, and love
truly mean.
76.What does the underlined sentence "fate played a cruel joke"mean in the passage?
77.According to Paragraph 2,what trouble did the family meet with besides their son's serious
illness?

Hi, I’m Alice. When I was a middle school student, I spent most of my time on my schoolwork. I was interested in playing the violin, but I had no time to practice it. To get better grades, I usually went to bed at 11:30 p.m. Through my hard work, I got into a university to study chemistry last September. My school life has changed since then. 32. C 句意:收到一封回信要花费几天甚至几周的时间。
考查非谓语动词固定句型。It takes/took sb.+ 时间 + to do sth.
stop sb. (from) doing sth. 为固定短语,意为 “阻止某人做某事”,from 可以省略,后面要接动名词形式,所以用 connecting。故选 B。
34. A句意:在过去,贫困地区的很多孩子几乎得不到学习的机会,教室简陋破旧。

【范文】
A Great person who inspires me
The great mind I admire most is Albert Einstein, one of the greatest scientists in history. His contributions to physics and his unique personality have left a deep impression on me.
Einstein was born in 1879 in Germany. He had a strong passion for science from an early age. Though he faced difficulties in his early studies, he never gave up his pursuit of knowledge. His most famous achievement is the theory of relativity, which changed the way we understand the universe. He also had a great sense of humour. What impresses me most is his attitude towards learning—he once said, “Imagination is more important than knowledge.”
Einstein’s life teaches me that curiosity and perseverance are the keys to success. His ability to think differently and challenge traditional ideas inspires me to keep exploring in my studies. He is truly a great mind worth admiring forever.
