A
The last day of my middle school came. I had to leave my dear friends and teachers.
The farewell took place in the big hall. It was the first time that I hadn’t worn my school uniform in the past three years.
At the beginning, the headmaster of our school lit the lamp first. After that, the students from Class 12 lit their candles from the big lamp. Then came the 11th class hosting the party. It included tasty dishes and drinks. At the end of the party, there were some programmes of entertainment.
Along with the delicious food, coffee was also served. Some of the students asked their teachers for the autograph
The headmaster and two teachers gave speeches in English. Finally, they all wished us a big success, not only in the coming exam but also in life.
Then we took a photo together. Side by side, we spent some time chatting in groups with friends. This went on till it was the time for the party to finish. All of us returned home with a sad heart and a lot of memories.
1.Who was the party for?
A.The headmaster. B.The graduates.
C.The teachers. D.The new comers.
2.What does the underlined word “entertainment” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Argument. B.Advertisement.
C.Achievement. D.Amusement.
3.What did the students do during the farewell?
a. lit the candles b. had tasty dishes and drinks
c. gave speeches d. took photos
A.a, b, c B.b, c, d
C.a, b, d D.a, c, d
4.Where is this passage probably taken from?
A.A book. B.A diary. C.A novel. D.A report.
根据第一段“The last day of my middle school came. I had to leave my dear friends and teachers.”
2.第三段提到“At the end of the party, there were some programmes of entertainment.” Amusement(娱乐,消遣)与entertainment意思最接近。
3.根据文章内容梳理学生们的活动:a. lit the candles: 第三段提到“students from Class 12 lit their candles”,符合。b. had tasty dishes and drinks: 第三段提到“It included tasty dishes and drinks... coffee was also served”,符合。c. gave speeches: 第五段提到“The headmaster and two teachers gave speeches”,是老师和校长演讲,不是学生,不符合。d. took photos: 第六段提到“Then we took a photo together”,符合。

Let’s take a look at some of the most interesting high school and university graduation traditions around the world.
China
College graduates in China celebrate their graduation as they wish. Many women graduates run to borrow wedding dresses (婚裙) instead of wearing graduation clothes and hats. Parents usually don’t attend graduation ceremonies, so the day is more about celebrating with classmates.
Japan
Celebrations for senior high school level graduation usually last about an hour and take place during the week. Students often wear their school uniforms. Ceremonies usually take place in March just before the beginning of a new school year.
The United States
Students can expect several graduation ceremonies: preschool (学前), primary school, high school, college, etc. So the families have more chances to take family photos together.
The United Kingdom
Graduation ceremonies only appear at the university level. They are held in the summer months from July to September. Graduates usually wear academic gowns and caps. They always wait in line until their names are called aloud.
The Philippines
At many high schools, ceremonies usually take place in April. Graduates wear beautiful garlands (花环) and are encouraged to wear only their school uniforms.
1.What may the girls wear in the graduation ceremonies in China according to the passage?

A
Three months ago, I moved to Paris to start college. I left behind everything I knew- my home, friends, and routines. At first, it felt 1 and challenging, but I quickly realised that college gives us a lot of free time, more than I have ever had in my life.
Even though I take many classes, work part-time, and join student clubs, I still have hours each day outside the classroom. Many students do not use this time well. They sleep late, spend hours on social media, or watch TV, and as a result, they 2 chances to learn new skills or improve themselves.
Attending class and completing homework is only the first step. If you want to make progress and become very good at something, you need to use your free time 3 . You can read books to learn new words, practice writing, try personal projects, or attend talks and workshops. Reading and thinking can also help you stay calmer and more 4 . You should exercise your mind instead of getting lost in PC games or on your smartphones.
Free time is also a chance to learn from other people. Talking with friends, asking questions, listening carefully, and sharing 5 can teach you new ways of thinking and help you understand others better.
You can see how much you grow and develop in a year if you plan your free time carefully. Free time can be your greatest 6 or your biggest waste. Choose activities that help you learn, improve, or help others, and make the most of every day.

Finding My Own Path
I’ve been motivated (有积极性的), and sometimes demotivated (失去积极性的) by other people’s achievements all my life. When I was a teenager, a neighborhood friend won a marathon race. Feeling 1 , I started running regularly, but then two things happened and my attitude changed. First, a girl I met told me she was training for a “super,” which meant a 52.4-mile double marathon. And the next day, I went on my longest run --- 15 miles. To be honest, I hated it! Then I decided the only reason I’d ever run again was if a big dog was running after me! 2 , the girl made my achievement seem small and jogging was really boring to me.
So I turned to cycling. I got a good bike and rode a lot. I even dreamed of entering cycling races until I visited my sister in San Diego. One day while she was at work, I borrowed her bike and went for a ride. However, I’d never expected to face such 3 before. The roads there went through large valleys, and I had to ride uphill for miles at a time! That day, I was tired and passed by about 100 4 bikers who were used to those roads. When I returned home, cycling suddenly didn’t seem as attractive as before.
Over time, I’ve realized that constantly comparing myself to others only leads to 5 . It’s natural to feel inspired by others, but don’t let their success decide your own journey. True motivation comes from within, not from matching someone else’s achievements. Instead of 6 what others have achieved, find what truly makes you happy and fulfilled. Thus, you’ll find your own path to success. Remember, life isn’t about competing with others; it’s about becoming the best of yourself.
1.A.satisfied B.excited C.surprised D.encouraged
2.A.In addition B.After all C.For example D.As a result
3.A.dangers B.opportunities C.challenges D.adventures
4.A.active B.quick C.foreign D.local
5.A.disappointment B.progress C.success D.regret
6.A.complaining about B.focusing on C.giving up D.showing off
【答案】1.D 2.B 3.C 4.D 5.A 6.B
根据“First, a girl I met told me she was training for a “super,” which meant a 52.4-mile double marathon. And the next day, I went on my longest run—15 miles. To be honest, I hated it!”
下文“The roads there went through large valleys, and I had to ride uphill for miles at a time!”
“bikers who were used to those roads”表示“习惯了这些道路的骑行者”,local意为“本地的”,符合“习惯道路”的语境。
根据前文“Then I decided the only reason I’d ever run again was if a big dog was running after me!”和“When I returned home, cycling suddenly didn’t seem as attractive as before.”
根据“don’t let their success decide your own journey”和“find what truly makes you happy and fulfilled”可知,此处表达的是“不要专注于他人的成就”,focusing on“专注于”符合语境。

A group of scientists discovered a gas called phosphine(磷化氢) on Venus(金星). That means there may be living things on the planet, which made many people start to imagine the talk between aliens and humans. A reporter from Washington Post wrote a letter to people of Earth on behalf of(代表) the citizens on Venus.
Attention, People of Earth
Fine. The big secret is out. Many of your finest scientists have discovered there is life tens of millions of miles away-here, on the beautiful planet of Venus. Congratulations! However, we have a polite request: Please stay away.
We're serious. No spacecrafts to Venus, no tasks, no visits. If we wake up one morning and see so many of you people wandering around in spacesuits, we're going to be really upset.
We don't want to be impolite. It's just that we're shocked by what you've got going on down there.
Earth looks like a mess. You've got health problems, environmental pollution, traffic jams, political fights, etc. No wonder so many of you want to leave Earth for another planet.
We know you'd like it here. That's what frightens us. you'd all move to Venus at once. If we start having you all up here, pretty soon, the Martians(火星人)and Jupiterians(木星人) are going to come, too. But we can't handle so much.
Venus is not Earth 2. We suggest _______________________ because _____________________.
God bless you!
Sincerely,
Venusians(金星人)

Celebrations for senior high school level graduation usually last about an hour and take place during the week. Students often wear their school uniforms. Ceremonies usually take place in March just before the beginning of a new school year.
The United States
Students can expect several graduation ceremonies: preschool (学前), primary school, high school, college, etc. So the families have more chances to take family photos together.
The United Kingdom
Graduation ceremonies only appear at the university level. They are held in the summer months from July to September. Graduates usually wear academic gowns and caps. They always wait in line until their names are called aloud.

In September 2022, Chinese scientists discovered a new mineral (矿物) on the moon. They named it Changesite-(Y). It was found in the lunar soil brought back by the Chang’e-5 mission in 2020. This mineral is made of elements that don’t exist on Earth in the same form.
Changesite-(Y) is a phosphate (磷酸盐) mineral. Scientists believe it formed billions of years ago when the moon was still volcanically active. By studying this mineral, researchers can learn more about the moon’s geological (地质的) history and how it cooled down over time.
So far, China has shared some of its lunar samples with scientists from over 10 countries. This international cooperation helps the whole world understand the moon better. The discovery of Changesite-(Y) is not just important for China—it’s a step forward for all humanity.
These findings show that space exploration is not just about competition; it’s about working together to uncover the secrets of the universe.
1.What did Chinese scientists discover in the Chang’e-5 lunar soil?
A.A new type of rock.
B.A new mineral.
C.Water ice.
D.Ancient fossils.
2.What can we learn about Changesite-(Y)?
