M: What’s seed bombing?
W: It’s a project which helps to plant new trees and flowers in places where few of them grow. These are little balls made of different plant seeds mixed with earth. Then you throw these balls and hope to see new plants soon. Our school club wanted to plant flowers near the old factories on Market Street. This place looked quite ugly, so we met with the town authorities, and they said we could do it.
M: Great news!
W: Yeah. On Wednesday, we went to Market Street, but when we were throwing the seed bombs the police came over. They thought we were throwing rocks at the windows. They took us to the police station. Then we called our teacher, and he brought the document that we had got from the town authorities. After that, we went home. The next day, a local newspaper came to school and asked us about the seed bombs. They wrote an article about us!
M: How fantastic! Have you got this article here? I have to read it.
W: Of course. Here it is.

My husband, children and I were in Hawaii. Here, we were introduced to the ancient Hawaiian concept of mālama (to care for) which encourages visitors to give back to the environment and local communities through activities like habitat restoration, beach cleanups or food provision. But mālama goes beyond eco-tourism — it’s about leaving a place better than you found it.
And after seeking out these experiences during a three-week stay, we found mālama not only improves Hawaii, but it also made our time there much more meaningful.
Mālama volunteer experiences are found across the islands. For example, on Maui, you can help restore native forests and volunteer at a nursery; while on O’ahu, visitors can clear invasive algae from Maunalua Bay. In some cases, travelers booking with partnering hotels and participating in designated activities will qualify for a discounted — or even free — night at dozens of hotels and resorts.
“Mālama today is more vital than ever,” our guide Rogers said. “Too many tourists walk carelessly on our land, ignoring restrictions and damaging sensitive ecosystems... don’t just think Hawaii is beautiful; help keep it that way. It’s a shared responsibility.” As Rogers explained, mālama isn’t just about seeing or appreciating a landscape; it invites visitors to connect and contribute to it, with the idea that caring for a place fosters a stronger relationship with it.
After eight days, we ventured to Molokai, Hawaii’s least developed island. No resorts or chain stores spoiled its wild beauty — just dramatic cliffs meeting rough seas. Deep in the eastern wilderness, we met Greg Solatario, whose family has taken care of this land for generations. His simple off-grid life perfectly embodied mālama. Greg welcomed us warmly before leading us through jungle-covered ruins of ancestral villages. As we approached, his son Devak blew a conch shell — a traditional request to enter. “The land remembers,” Greg explained, showing us medicinal plants and ancient fishing spots. His parting words stayed with me: “Mālama shouldn’t be just Hawaiian — the whole world needs this way of caring.”
24. How does the author present the topic in the first paragraph?
A. By quoting an expert. B. By giving examples.
C. By explaining a concept. D. By providing statistics.
25. What can Mālama volunteers experience in Hawaii?
A. Developing Maunalua Bay. B. Reviving local forests.
C. Asking for hotel discounts. D. Organizing big activities.
26. What do we know about Greg Solatario’s family?
A. They built new resorts in the wild. B. They have long protected the land.
C. They offered guided tours to locals. D. They fixed up the old village ruins.
27. Which of the following best describes the author’s trip in Hawaii?
A. The wise improve what they enjoy.
B. Where there is a will, there is a way.
C. God helps those who help themselves.
D. When in Rome, do as the Romans do.
C 25. B 26. B 27. A

根据第一段“Here, we were introduced to the ancient Hawaiian concept of mālama (to care for) which encourages visitors to give back to the environment and local communities through activities like habitat restoration, beach cleanups or food provision. But mālama goes beyond eco-tourism — it’s about leaving a place better than you found it.(在这里,我们了解到古老的夏威夷“mālama(关爱)”理念,该理念鼓励游客通过栖息地修复、海滩清理或物资供给等活动,回馈环境和当地社区。但mālama不止于生态旅游——它意味着让一个地方比你发现它时更好。)”可知,作者在第一段围绕mālama理念,先介绍其定义,再说明其内涵,是通过解释概念来呈现主题的。故选C。
【25题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“Mālama volunteer experiences are found across the islands. For example, on Maui, you can help restore native forests and volunteer at a nursery; while on O’ahu, visitors can clear invasive algae from Maunalua Bay.(在夏威夷群岛,随处可见mālama志愿者体验活动。例如在毛伊岛,您可以参与修复原生森林,或在植物苗圃担任志愿者;而在瓦胡岛,游客可以清理马努努阿湾的入侵藻类。)”可知,mālama志愿者能参与恢复当地森林的活动。故选B。

The 18th century German philosopher Immanuel Kant lived very firmly in a world of time. He was so strict about routine that his fellow citizens of Kocnigsberg could set their watches by his afternoon walk. However, in his philosophical work, Kant was doubtful about time. He believed time is created by the human mind. Out there beyond our minds, there is no time. It’s simply a “category” of our minds that helps us to perceive objects and order our experience.
The flexibility of our time perception (感知) supports Kant’s doubt. We all know time is not a fixed phenomenon but seems to pass at different speeds in different situations. For example, it seems to go slowly when we travel to unfamiliar places, or when we are bored or in pain. It seems to speed up when we’re absorbed, such as when we play music or paint.
Our perception of time can change in a dramatic way. Perhaps, at least once in your life, you’ve had what is called a “Time Expansion Experience (TEE),” when seconds have stretched out into minutes. TEEs happen most frequently in accidents where perception becomes more intense than normal and thus people notice more details.
In accident situations, people are often surprised by the amount of time they have to think and act. In fact, many people are convinced that time expansion spared them from their serious injury, or even death. For example, a woman who reported a TEE in which she avoided a metal barrier falling on to her car said, “For me the slowing down of the moment allowed me to decide how to escape the falling metal on us.”
All of this suggests that Kant was right. Perhaps the reason why time is variable is because it doesn’t really exist—at least, outside our minds. There is no objective time out there in the universe. What we experience as time is filtered (过滤) through our minds, and so varies according to our state of mind.
28. Which of the following would Immanuel Kant approve of?
A. Time is a basic quality of the world.
B. Time is a record of human experience.
C. Time is a situation measured by daily routine.
D. Time is a mental concept generated by humans.
29. What is the main idea of paragraph 2?
A. Time progresses at a constant speed.
B. Full attention affects people’s sense of time.
C. Time perception varies depending on context.
D. People feel time slows down on special occasions.
30. What do people think of TEEs in accidents?
A. Inspiring. B. Beneficial. C. Temporary. D. Painful.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. The Secret of Time: A State of Mind
B. Time Expansion: Real or Imaginary?
C. Time Perception: A Philosophical Exploration
D. The Clockwork of the Mind: How to Measure Time?
D 29. C 30. B 31. A
根据第一段中“He believed time is created by the human mind. Out there beyond our minds, there is no time. It’s simply a “category” of our minds that helps us to perceive objects and order our experience. (他相信时间是由人类的思想创造的。在我们的意识之外,没有时间。它只是我们思维的一个“范畴”,帮助我们感知物体并安排我们的经验)”可知,康德会认可“时间是人类产生的一种精神概念”这一观点。故选D。
【29题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第二段中“The flexibility of our time perception (感知) supports Kant’s doubt. We all know time is not a fixed phenomenon but seems to pass at different speeds in different situations. For example, it seems to go slowly when we travel to unfamiliar places, or when we are bored or in pain. It seems to speed up when we’re absorbed, such as when we play music or paint. (我们对时间感知的灵活性支持了康德的怀疑。我们都知道时间不是一个固定的现象,在不同的情况下似乎以不同的速度流逝。例如,当我们去不熟悉的地方旅行时,或者当我们感到无聊或痛苦时,它似乎走得很慢。当我们全神贯注的时候,比如当我们玩音乐或画画的时候,它似乎会加速)”可知,该段主要讲时间感知因情境而异。故选C。
【30题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段中“In accident situations, people are often surprised by the amount of time they have to think and act. In fact, many people are convinced that time expansion spared them from their serious injury, or even death. For example, a woman who reported a TEE in which she avoided a metal barrier falling on to her car said, “For me the slowing down of the moment allowed me to decide how to escape the falling metal on us. ” (在发生事故的情况下,人们常常会惊讶于他们必须思考和行动的时间。事实上,许多人相信时间膨胀使他们免于重伤,甚至死亡。例如,一位女士报告说,她在时间膨胀中避开了掉到她车上的金属障碍物,她说:“对我来说,减速的那一刻让我决定如何逃离落在我们身上的金属)”可知,人们认为在事故中的时间膨胀体验是有益的。故选B。
【31题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其根据最后一段“What we experience as time is filtered (过滤) through our minds, and so varies according to our state of mind. (随着时间的流逝,我们所经历的一切都被我们的思维过滤了,因此随着我们的精神状态而变化)”可知,文章开篇介绍康德认为时间是由人类思维创造的,接着通过讲述时间感知的灵活性以及时间膨胀体验等内容,说明了时间是因我们的精神状态而变化的,所以选项A“时间的秘密:一种精神状态”能很好地概括文章主旨。故选A。

Recycling lithium-ion (锂离子) batteries to recover their critical metals like lithium, nickel and cobalt has significantly lower environmental impacts than mining raw metals, according to a new Stanford University life cycle analysis published in Nature Communications.
The study quantifies the environmental footprint of this recycling process, and finds it gives off less than half the greenhouse gases (GHGs) of conventional mining and uses about one-fourth of the water and energy of mining new metals. The environmental benefits are even greater for the scrap (废料) stream, which accounted for about 90% of the recycled supply studied.
Battery recycling’s environmental impacts depend heavily on the processing facility’s location and electricity source. “A battery recycling plant in regions that rely heavily on electricity generated by burning coal would see a reduced climate advantage,” said Samantha Bunk e, one of the study’s three lead investigators. “On the other hand, freshwater shortages in regions with cleaner electricity are a great concern,” added Bunk e. Most of the study’s data for battery recycling came from Redwood Materials in Nevada — North America’s largest industrial-scale lithium-ion battery recycling facility — which benefits from the western U.S.’s cleaner energy mix.
Redwood, which has since broken ground on a new facility in South Carolina, was one of the first to apply the lessons of this project to their own operations and environmental footprint. Its founder, JB Straubel said that the insights of this research have played a key role in refining Redwood’s battery recycling processes. “Thanks to the researchers’ observations, we have further reduced our environmental footprint,” he noted.
While the U.S. now recycles about 50% of available lithium-ion batteries, it has successfully recycled 99% of lead-acid batteries for decades. “Given that used lithium-ion batteries contain materials with up to 10 times higher economic value, the opportunity is significant,” senior author William Tarpeh said. “For a future with a greatly increased supply of used batteries, we need to design and prepare a recycling system today from collection to processing back into new batteries with minimal environmental impact,” he added. “Hopefully, battery producers will consider how to make their batteries more recyclable in their future plans, too.”
32. What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. The effectiveness of energy use.
B. Methods of conducting the study.
C. The complexity of the recycling process.
D. Advantages of recycling lithium-ion batteries.
33. Why is Redwood Materials mentioned?
A. To show the key role of battery industries.
B. To highlight its reduced climate advantage.
C. To illustrate the practical use of the research.
D. To criticize its lasting environmental footprint.
34. What does the underlined word “refining” mean in paragraph 4?
A. Shaking. B. Bettering. C. Starting. D. Limiting.
35. What is Tarpeh’s suggestion for battery producers?
A. Improve their recycling system.
B. Limit the use of lead-acid batteries.
C. Focus on their processing cost.
D. Prioritize recyclability in their designs.
D 33. C 34. B 35. D

The need for emotional safety evolved from our most fundamental need — physical survival. Our ancestors could only survive by banding together into closely-knit tribes. They likely knew how to maintain relationships. But in our modern world, emotional safety has become harder to come by. Many of us live among strangers, far from people who know us most. ____36____
Before searching for new connections, check what you already have. ____37____ These might be people who remember to ask how your job interview went, or who offer help when you’re overwhelmed.

空格前后“Your protective instincts aren’t the enemy.(你的保护本能并不是敌人)”、“Often, your bodyguard is reacting to old wounds rather than present realities. Try this: Tell your inner bodyguard, “Thank you for trying to protect me.” (通常,你内心的 “守卫者”是在对过去的伤痛做出反应,而非针对当下的现实。不妨试试这样做:对你内心的 “守卫者” 说:“谢谢你一直努力保护我。”)”谈论的都是如何对待内心的保护本能,G项“我们的目标不是忽略它们,而是更有技巧地与它们合作”符合语境,承上启下。故选G。
【40题详解】
根据空格后的内容““I think we misunderstood each other” or “Can we try to have a conversation again?(“我想我们误解对方了”或者“我们能再谈一谈吗?”)”和“It means recognizing that imperfect people can still be safe if they’re willing to meet you halfway.(这意味着要认识到,如果不完美的人愿意向你妥协,他们仍然可以是安全的)”可知,后文说的都是与“妥协”有关的内容,C项“学会修复关系意味着愿意妥协”符合语境,故选C。

Could you please provide me with the necessary instructions for returning the item and processing the refund?

I’d always been told to take care of my older brother, Brian, who was born weak and small. I’d often tie his shoes or prepare another glass of water for him. My mom saw my larger size and strong body as a sign that I was to be a kind of guardian angel (守护天使) for Brian. However, that was not the case.
One day our school sponsored a pumpkin-carving contest. First prize was $100, and I knew just how I would spend it. There was a brand-new game I was dying to own. So I decided the first place bonus definitely had to land in my pocket.
When I had to carve the perfect pumpkin I’d picked out, it dawned on me that with my big clumsy fingers I’d surely screw it up (搞砸). I thought of Brian’s smaller, delicate hands and knew he was the man for the job. I immediately begged Brian. Unexpectedly, he asked for a cut. That was fifty-fifty. Quickly doing the math in my head, I figured out even if I split (分摊) the first prize, I’d still have enough cash for the game. So I gave in to Brian’s demands. With skillful hands Brian carved the perfect face, and now we had the best pumpkin ever.
Then the unexpected happened: We came in second. Unfortunately, second prize was only $50, and I needed every penny of that to buy the game. The day of the awards ceremony, the principal handed over the money to me because Brian was home, sick with cold.
If he really wanted to win, he would have been here today, I thought to myself, justifying stealing the cash from under poor Brian’s runny nose. With hardly a thought, I ran to the store and bought my dream game. That night when Brian asked if we had won, I denied, afraid to look into his eyes.
The whole thing was never mentioned again until the day when Brian was packing for college. I played my usual role in helping him pack when I came across an old album filled with photos and one of them caught my eye.
注意:

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 1: It was a picture of the pumpkin-carving contest. In the photo, we stood proudly beside our perfectly carved pumpkin. Brian’s face was glowing with excitement, and mine was filled with a sense of accomplishment. But then I noticed something I had never seen before — a small note written on the back of the photo. It read, “We did it together. I hope you’re happy.” My heart sank as I realized the weight of my actions all those years ago. I had been so focused on getting what I wanted that I had completely disregarded Brian’s feelings. Thus I apologized to him for my selfishness years ago.
Paragraph 2: “You actually knew and didn’t say anything?” I was shocked. Brian had always been the quiet one, but now he looked at me with a mix of disappointment and curiosity. I took a deep breath and decided it was time to come clean. “Brian, I’m so sorry. I was wrong. I should have told you the truth back then.” I handed him the photo and explained everything — how I had taken the money without telling him and how I had lied about the contest results. To my surprise, Brian didn’t seem angry. Instead, he smiled gently and said, “It’s okay, bro. We were kids. What matters is that we’re still here for each other.” His words were like a balm to my conscience, and I realized that true family bonds are stronger than any mistake.

Most potentially safe people need time before they can accept others’ openness. ____38____ Try sharing something simple: “I’m feeling nervous about this presentation,” or “I’m sad that my dog is getting old.” When someone responds to your vulnerability with kindness, it signals that this person might be worth investing in.
Your protective instincts aren’t the enemy. ____39____ Often, your bodyguard is reacting to old wounds rather than present realities. Try this: Tell your inner bodyguard, “Thank you for trying to protect me.”
An argument can turn into permanent alienation. ____40____ “I think we misunderstood each other” or “Can we try to have a conversation again?” is a good gesture. It means recognizing that imperfect people can still be safe if they’re willing to meet you halfway.
A. Such estrangement will keep others at arm’s length.
B. People who know us most won’t leave us vulnerable.
C. Learning to repair means being willing to compromise.
D. Start small with people who’ve already shown they care.
