A
The sweetest memory of my childhood is about a round table. When I was little, my whole family would get together on almost every traditional festival to have dinner.
While the grown-ups (成年人) were discussing something, we kids would be talking with each other or playing hide-and-seek under the table. When my aunt got married and she brought back her husband, my grandma would cheerfully add another seat to the round table for the man. It was a little more crowded, but we all felt closer to this new family member.
When I was fifteen, my grandma passed away because of cancer. But when the big family got together once again, we all agreed that her chair, her bowl and her chopsticks should keep the same. Even though her seat was empty, we felt like that she had never left us.
We all have a table like this in our homes. It is a symbol of getting together with our family members. In fact, in China, it seems that everything can be solved over a round table. The food on the table may change with time, the people sitting beside it may come and go, the reasons why we come together seem to be different, but the true meaning behind it keeps the same year after year. And that is the tolerance of different people, different cultures and different art forms. Moreover, we express our love, care and respect not only for our family, but also for a community, our nation or even the whole world on the round table.

①Does every dinner with your parents seem to turn into an argument (争吵)? Have your once warm conversations become cold? You are not alone. Heated arguments and cold silences are common between teenagers and their parents.
②Teenagers’ physical (身体的) changes may cause such family problems. You may feel worried that you are developing at a different speed to your friends, shooting up in height or getting left far behind. You might worry about your changing voice and weight problems. When it all gets too much, your parents are often the first you want to get angry with.
③It can be a big headache to balance your developing mental (精神的) needs too. You enter a strange middle ground— no longer a small child but not quite an adult. You hate to depend on your parents but have a continued need for their love and support. You feel ready to make decisions on your own. Unluckily, your parents do not always agree and that makes you feel unhappy. On the other hand, when you are trying to control your feelings, you wish they could be more caring and patient— sometimes they forget that growing up is a hard time. It can be difficult when your parents treat you like a child but expect you to act like an adult. All of this can cause a breakdown in your relationship.
④______ The key to keeping the peace is regular (有规律的) and honest communication. When you disagree with your parents, take a minute to calm down and try to understand the situation from their point of view. Perhaps they have experienced something similar and do not want you to go through the same pain. Explain your actions and feelings calmly, listen carefully, and make them free from worries. Through this kind of healthy discussion, you will learn when to back down and when to ask your parents to relax their control.
⑤Just remember that it is common to fight with the stress and that you and your parents can work together to improve your relationship. The good news is that this stormy time will not last. Everything will turn out all right in the end, and the changes and challenges of your teenage years will prepare you for your future.

The biggest influence that technology has on family time is the change of it. People used to spend more time with their family members before. Nowadays, with children (and the parents, too) spending more time texting, watching movies and television, playing video games, and listening to music on smart phones, when will the family find time to bond (培养感情) and create lasting memories together?
Far too often we don’t pay more attention to making time for members of our own family. By the end of a long day at work or school, members of the family want to relax. And now that technology use is widespread (传播) across the country, normally our “relaxing” is also known as spending time on smart phones.
Not only is the amount of family time affected (影响) by technology, but also the quality (质量). Technology can affect the quality in different ways. For example, family members can be distracted (使分心) by their phones while trying to play a board game together, which wouldn’t have happened if the phone didn’t exist in the first place.
If “family time” means everyone sitting in the same room while playing online, what value is there? Personal communication is key to time well spent with loved ones. Families don’t even need to have something special to do while together. If they simply ask each other how their day is and play a simple game together, family bonds will get better.
When technology becomes a focus, quality time for families goes down, which in turn affects everyone’s life. Lack of family communication causes the family’s unity to weaken, and each of the family will be influenced in different ways. Children are more likely to develop unhealthy habits when they fail to interact with their parents. Meanwhile, parents who put work before family or pay less attention to their children’s growth are more likely to face bad parent-child relationship. Sixty-seven percent of American teens say they want to spend more time with their parents, which is rather sad. Therefore, this passage is meant to show how technology has influenced families badly.
31.What is the biggest influence that technology has on family time?
A.It brings families get closer easily.
B.It provides more choices to play together.
C.It changes the way families spend time together.
D.It increases the time families spend together.
32.Nowadays what do members of the family usually do to relax by the end of a day?
A.Watch movies and television. B.Listen to radio programs.
C.Spend time on smart phones. D.Play a board game together.
33.According to Paragraph 3, we can know that technology________.
A.makes us put work before family B.affects the quality of family time
C.brings us convenience and happiness D.affects the family time in the same way
34.What’s Paragraph 4 mainly about?
A.Simple games are helpful for family bonds.
B.Families don’t need to do anything together.
C.Personal communication is important for family time.
D.Staying in the same room is necessary for family.
35.What’s the writer’s attitude (态度) towards the technology influence?

Communication between children and parents can sometimes be challenging, especially at your age. But don’t worry—you’re not alone. Here is some advice.
Listen first
Effective communication begins with listening. Listen actively, nod when needed and think carefully about what others are saying—these small changes could lead to improved communication and reduced arguments between family members. Even if you disagree, being polite makes it easier for family members to pay attention to you as well. 36
Express yourself clearly
Shouting or keeping silent won’t help your parents understand your feelings. Try “I” statements like, “I am stressed...” instead of placing blame (责备) on them. 37 Communicating your feelings to parents is not that difficult—the right words and patience can do great things!
Choose the right time
38 Choose a more relaxing time, such as after dinner, so that you can feel relaxed.
Set healthy boundaries (界限) with respect
Boundaries help create respectful communication. If your parents are breaking the rules—such as not respecting your privacy (隐私)—it’s okay to voice your thoughts in an effective yet gentle way. 39
Keep practicing
Rebuilding relationships with your parents is a long-term journey. Practice makes perfect, so don’t give up if the situation doesn’t improve immediately. 40 The more you practise, the closer your relationship will become.
A.Be patient because improvement takes time.
B.Don’t start your talk when they are tired or busy.
C.Remember, listen to them carefully instead of cutting in on others!
D.It’s also important to be patient when you express your feelings.
E.By speaking up in this way, parents will listen and understand better.
F.Talk to your friends instead of your parents when you have trouble.

21.When the family got together on traditional festivals, what would the kids do?
A.Discuss things with the grown-ups. B.Talk or play hide-and-seek under the table.
C.Help prepare dinner for the family. D.Cheer for the new family members.
22.Why did grandma add another seat to the round table?
A.Because the original table was too small for everyone.
B.Because the author’s aunt brought back her husband.
C.Because grandma wanted to welcome the author’s friends.
D.Because the family planned to have more guests.
23.What does the underlined word “tolerance” probably mean in the passage?
A.The ability to accept and respect differences.
B.The feeling of caring when keeping someone company.
C.The way people express love for their family.
D.The act of gathering together on traditional festivals.
24.Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?
A.The family only got together when the author’s aunt came back.
B.The round table became less crowded after the aunt’s husband joined.
C.The true meaning behind the round table never changes with time.
D.In China, only family problems can be solved over a round table.
25.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.The importance of a round table. B.How to make a round table.
C.The story of the round table. D.The meaning of the round table in Chinese culture.

A.Agreed. B.Worried. C.Surprised. D.Satisfied.
第二节 阅读填空(共5小题, 每小题1分,共5分)

21.When the family got together on traditional festivals, what would the kids do?

B.Because the author’s aunt brought back her husband.
C.Because grandma wanted to welcome the author’s friends.
D.Because the family planned to have more guests.
23.What does the underlined word “tolerance” probably mean in the passage?
A.The ability to accept and respect differences.
B.The feeling of caring when keeping someone company.
C.The way people express love for their family.
D.The act of gathering together on traditional festivals.
24.Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?

B.The round table became less crowded after the aunt’s husband joined.
C.The true meaning behind the round table never changes with time.
D.In China, only family problems can be solved over a round table.
25.What is the main idea of the passage?

B.However, you can take action to improve the situation.
C.But how could this happen?

29.Which of the following is the structure (结构) of the passage?

A.Agreed. B.Worried. C.Surprised. D.Satisfied.
