阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
We lived in Cleveland, Ohio. One afternoon a couple of summers ago, just as the sky was darkening, a woman I didn’t know stood sinking in our doorway, holding the screen door open. I saw the silhouette (轮廓) of her head through the window. She didn’t feel well at all. So, I wondered, what should I do now?
This moment of decision had happened to me before. For nineteen years, we’ve lived at the exit of a highway, which often leads exhausted cars to our house. These travelers have all asked for little things, such as the phone, a glass of water, or even directions. All have been strangers to me.
Nowadays, we live in a world full of suspicion. Conventional wisdom advises that to act as a good person is to be naive and risk terrible consequences. News is full of stories about victims who unintentionally endanger themselves. There is no doubt that those are true stories, but the lesson goes against my belief. Sometimes to do the right thing, you must take risks. Must we fear all of those whom we don’t know? Is our own personal safety always the important consideration?
Our location forces me to make difficult choices. The highway makes it impossible to ignore the world and relationship to it. When someone approaches us for help, I have to decide: Do I help them or not?
I believe rejecting others who need help endangers me, too. I’d rather risk my physical safety than my peace of mind. I’d rather live my life acting out of mercy than save it by living in uneasiness.
So when the woman was sinking like the sun on my front doorstep, I made my choice.
I opened the door.

四. 段落续写(范文)
The moment I opened the door, the woman nearly fell forward. I quickly reached out to support her and helped her into the house. Judging from her pale face and weak breath, she was extremely exhausted from a long drive. I brought her a cup of warm water and arranged a comfortable chair for her to rest. After a while, she regained strength and explained that she had driven for hours and suddenly felt dizzy on the way. She thanked me repeatedly for my kindness.
Several days later, there was a knock at our door again. To my surprise, it was the same woman. She came with a basket of fresh fruits to express her sincere gratitude. She told me she had fully recovered and was deeply touched by my courage to help a stranger. This experience strengthened my belief that kindness is never naive. Even in a world full of suspicion, sincere mercy can warm others and bring lasting peace to our own hearts.
