I knew it before I heard “we’ll be in touch” from the client. I wouldn’t look my boss in the eye and the rest of my day was spent in relative silence. Finally, I left my office and walked home. Around the building near my home, I found some kids were noisily shooting water at each other using water guns. I was annoyed, thinking, “Don’t wet me!” When seeing me in my suit and my mean look, they stopped the water fight and got quiet. Then I noticed a five-year-old kid with a water gun eyeing me a little harder than the others. I eyed him back. Then his brother nodded to him like he was saying, “I dare you.” My eyes tightened a little further as I communicated my own “I dare you” to the five-year-old kid. Then he darted (瞥) a look at me, planning his escape route through the alley, and immediately I knew I was going to get wet. And he got me before he ran toward his exit. Right away I headed toward the alley to preclude his escape. But as I took my first step, his brother, the instigator (唆使者), threw me one of his water guns. I caught it and without much thinking, I shot water at him. He shot back but his shooter was no match for mine. So he turned his water gun on a few other little kids after that. Then, somehow I also turned my water gun on these kids and before long we were in an all-out water fight. Soon, there were water balloons dropping from upstairs windows and the whole block seemed to be involved — adults and kids. Needless to say, I was totally wet and laughing like I had never laughed before. It was the five-year-old kid who brought out the kid in me and helped me realize that you may not be able to control your disappointment but you can still let the joy in. 1.Why did the author spend the rest of his day in relative silence? (no more than 10 words) 2.How did the brother respond to the 5-year-old kid’s intention? (no more than 10 word) 3.What does the underlined mean in paragraph 4? (no more than 1 words) 4.What made the author laugh a lot? (no more than 10 words) 5.How do you think you can live a joyful life according to the story? (no more than 20 words) 【答案】1.Because he was upset about his poor performance in work. 2.He encouraged his younger brother by nodding to him. 3.Prevent/Stop. 4.Being involved in the water fight. 5.I should avoid being too troubled by unfortunate things that have happened and try to get joy from simple things.(答案不唯一) 【导语】文章讲述作者工作汇报失利后心情低落,一场水枪大战治愈了他,让他懂得接纳失落、拥抱快乐。 1. 根据第一段“My presentation was horrible. I knew it before I heard “we’ll be in touch” from the client. I wouldn’t look my boss in the eye and the rest of my day was spent in relative silence.(我的汇报糟糕透顶。在听到客户说出“我们后续再联系”之前我就察觉到了。我不敢直视老板,当天剩余的时间我都在相对沉默中度过)”可知,作者汇报失败心情低落,所以整日沉默。 2.考查细节理解。根据第三段中“Then his brother nodded to him like he was saying, “I dare you.”(随后他的哥哥朝他点了点头,仿佛在说“我谅你不敢”)”可知,哥哥通过点头鼓励弟弟朝作者喷水。 3. 根据第三段中“Then he darted (瞥) a look at me, planning his escape route through the alley, and immediately I knew I was going to get wet.(然后他瞥了我一眼,规划着从小巷逃走的路线,我立刻明白我要被水泼到了)”可知,小男孩计划从小巷逃走,因此猜测作者走向小巷,是为了阻止他逃走,以免自己被泼水。 根据第五段中“before long we were in an all-out water fight... Needless to say, I was totally wet and laughing like I had never laughed before.(不久之后我们展开了全面的水枪大战……不用说,我全身湿透,笑得前所未有地开怀)”可知,参与水枪大战让作者开怀大笑。 5.开放性问题。结合文章从小事情中获得快乐的主旨,答案符合逻辑即可,注意字数。例如可回答:I should avoid being too troubled by unfortunate things that have happened and try to get joy from simple things. For many years, I had enjoyed painting as well as making jewelry and garden art. On weekends, I’ d set up my tent and tables and display my items at craft fairs. It was tiring but I enjoyed it. However, when I was seventy-one, I suffered from Lyme disease. Though receiving treatment, I was still weakened by the disease. There was no way I could go back to vending (卖东西). This broke my heart, and I became depressed and often lay awake all night. I had no interest in painting or making anything. My doctor suggested, “Try something new!” But what would that be? One day, I learned a local farm called OATS, which offered “animal therapy (治疗)” to people with serious mental illnesses. It was a way of learning about animals and being close to nature while patients were receiving physical and emotional therapy. I decided to volunteer there. Despite my health issues, they assured me they’d find something for me to do. I drove there the next morning to find children and adults singing a song. And I was asked to work with a woman named Dee. As it turned out, animal therapy was in the middle of four weeks of a day camp for disabled people, and Dee was the arts-and-crafts lady! I was excited to help. All I had to do was assist the campers. They were sweet and funny. We thoroughly enjoyed decorating little birdhouses, painting pictures, and creating fun works of art. I continued volunteering every weekday for the next two weeks. Half of the campers were taking slow, gentle walks on horseback while being led by trained volunteers. The joy on the campers’ faces was wonderful. And I found my experience here was conducive to my recovery. I began feeling healthier and stronger every day. Moreover, I slept quite well when I went home. At the end of the day camp, Dee taught me how to feed goats, chickens, ducks, two donkeys and two mini-horses. What fun! I realized I had found a new purpose and identity. It was a truly healing experience. 1.Why did the author become depressed at seventy-one years old?(no more than 15 words) 2.How might the author feel about her first day at OATS?(no more than 5words) 3.What does the underlined word“conducive” in paragraph 5 probably mean?(1 word) 4.What did the author do at the end of the day camp?(no more than 10words) 5.What do you think of voluntary work?(no more than 20 words) 【答案】1.She couldn’t return to vending because of illness. 2.Excited and joyful. 3.Helpful. 4.She learned to feed many kinds of animals. 5.It is meaningful and benefits both others and ourselves. 根据文章第二段中的“However, when I was seventy-one, I suffered from Lyme disease. Though receiving treatment, I was still weakened by the disease. There was no way I could go back to vending (卖东西)。 This broke my heart, and I became depressed and often lay awake all night.(然而,我七十一岁时患上了莱姆病。尽管接受了治疗,我的身体依旧很虚弱,再也无法回去摆摊售卖东西。这让我伤心不已,我变得情绪低落,还常常彻夜难眠。)”可知,作者因为生病无法继续摆摊售卖,所以变得消沉。 2.考查细节理解。根据文章第四段中的“I was excited to help. All I had to do was assist the campers. They were sweet and funny. We thoroughly enjoyed decorating little birdhouses, painting pictures, and creating fun works of art.(我满心欢喜地前去帮忙。我只需要协助这些营员就可以了,他们可爱又有趣。我们一起兴致勃勃地装饰小鸟屋、绘画、制作趣味艺术品。)”可知,作者在 OATS 第一天的心情激动又愉悦。 3.考查词句猜测。根据文章第五段中的“And I found my experience here was conducive to my recovery. I began feeling healthier and stronger every day. Moreover, I slept quite well when I went home.(我发现在这里的这段经历对我的康复是conducive的。我的身体日渐健康、强健,回家之后也能睡得十分安稳。)”可知,这段志愿经历对作者恢复健康有帮助,因此该单词含义为“有帮助的”。 4.考查细节理解。根据文章最后一段 中的“At the end of the day camp, Dee taught me how to feed goats, chickens, ducks, two donkeys and two mini-horses.(日间营活动结束时,迪伊教我喂养山羊、鸡、鸭子、两头驴和两匹迷你马。)” After retiring from professional soccer in 2023, Amir Lowery returned home and began coaching at a youth club. He knew that the city’s immigration communities included many soccer enthusiasts, but girls and boys from such communities were nowhere to be seen on the costly club circuit. Two years later, Lowery co-founded the Open Goal Project to help talented young players who could not afford club fees. The program supports about 500 children who play on eight free club teams, in a mini-league, and at summer camps. Beyond soccer skills, participants learn nutrition, financial knowledge, and receive academic and college guidance. Joining his first soccer program at age 4, Lowery played for youth clubs and his parents sacrificed time, money and energy to transport him to games and tournaments. He had a social network of people who were in favour of his passion and really wanted to see him succeed. That foundation helped him earn a full scholarship to Wake Forest University, where he captained the men’s team before joining Major LeagueSoccer. The Open Goal Project operates on an annual budget of roughly $ 700,000. Local officials — say the families it serves would otherwise have no access to high — level soccer. Lowery also hopes the program will broaden the soccer talent pool, and argues that rising costs — often near $ 1,000 a year per child — preclude many skilled players. Removing financial barriers, he believes, would reveal much untapped talent. On a sunny afternoon, Lowery leads a practice on a field, where dozens of kids train and parents sit in chairs, watching proudly. Precious Ogu, once an early Open Goal Project participant, understands how priceless such sense of belonging is. Feeling out of place in a wealthy suburban club shaped her belief in the Open Goal Project’s mission. As practice ends and the children walk off the field, it’s clear they leave with more than ball skills. Together, they are building not just better players, but a community where every child, regardless of background, has a chance to belong and dream. 1.Why did Amir Lowery co-found the Open Goal Project? (no more than 15 words) 2.What contributed to Lowery’s early success according to paragraph 2? (no more than 10 words) 3.What does the underlined word mean in Paragraph 3? (1 word) 4.Which aspect of the project matters most to Precious Ogu? (no more than 5 words) 5.Do you consider Amir Lowery as your role model? Please explain. (no more than 20 words) 【答案】1.To help talented young players who couldn’t afford club fees. 2.His parents’ sacrifice and supportive social network. 3.Prevent. 4.The sense of belonging. 5.Yes. The reason is that he helps poor kids pursue dreams and builds an inclusive community. 根据第一段中的“Two years later, Lowery co-founded the Open Goal Project to help talented young players who could not afford club fees.(两年后,洛厄里联合创立了‘开放进球计划’,帮助那些付不起俱乐部费用的有天赋的年轻球员)”可知,洛厄里创立该项目的直接目的是帮助付不起俱乐部费用的有天赋的年轻球员。 2. 根据第二段中的“Joining his first soccer program at age 4, Lowery played for youth clubs and his parents sacrificed time, money and energy to transport him to games and tournaments. He had a social network of people who were in favour of his passion and really wanted to see him succeed.(洛厄尔4岁时加入了首个足球项目,此后效力于多家青年俱乐部,他的父母牺牲了时间、金钱与精力,接送他参加各类比赛和锦标赛。他身边有一群支持他这份热爱、真心期盼他取得成功的人)”可知,洛厄里早期成功的两个核心促成因素是父母的牺牲和支持他的社交网络。 3.考查词句猜测。根据画线词“preclude”前面的“rising costs — often near $ 1,000 a year per child(不断上涨的费用——通常每名儿童每年接近1000美元)”和后面“Removing financial barriers, he believes, would reveal much untapped talent.(他相信,消除经济障碍会发掘出许多未被开发的天赋)”可知,高昂的费用会阻止很多有天赋的球员参与,“preclude”在此含有“阻止”之意。 4. 根据第四段中的“Precious Ogu, once an early Open Goal Project participant, understands how priceless such sense of belonging is.(普雷舍斯·奥古曾是开放进球计划的早期参与者,她明白这种归属感是多么无价)”可知,对普雷舍斯·奥古来说,项目最重要的方面是归属感。 5. 根据第五段中的“Together, they are building not just better players, but a community where every child, regardless of background, has a chance to belong and dream.(他们共同努力,不仅培养出更优秀的球员,还构建了一个让每个孩子无论背景如何,都有机会获得归属感和追逐梦想的社区)”可知,洛厄里用自身成功经历回馈社会,帮助弱势儿童实现梦想,传递了平等与包容的价值观。 Family stories are amazing to me. You hear of family members long ago and by hearing about their stories, you can find timeless wisdom that can apply to your own life. I’ll never forget the story my mom told me about Grandma. Grandma cooked for a crew of 24 farmhands (农场工人) so most of her days were taken up cooking breakfast, lunch, and dinner for a bunch of loud men coming in from hunting or farming. She took care of five children as well so her house was a busy little place, but where you would find Grandma the most would be in front of her stove, stirring a pot of something. The kids would run in and she’d give them a hug and then she’d go back to stirring. The men would come in and clean up all the biscuits and bacon and then she’d start on the next meal, once again standing and stirring at the stove. They’d tell her how wonderful her food was and then pour out their troubles to her as she listened and stirred. One time Ruth watched as the farmhands ate quickly and went back out to work, hearing all of them grumbling about their lives. Then one by one the children came in to tell Grandma their own worries. She would smile, give them some kind of advice, and keep stirring. Ruth watched sitting at the table and when everyone left she said, “Mother, how can you just sit there and stir? Everyone tells you how bad their life is and you just smile and stir? Why don’t you just tell them that you’ve had enough and you can’t take anymore? Do something… Stop stirring!” Grandma looked up at Ruth and smiled… and kept stirring. “Ruth, don’t you know that the stirring is very important? You see, when I’m stirring I’m putting all my thoughts and dreams into that pot. As everyone comes in and tells me about their life I put the love and positive thoughts into my pot and stir. Then when they eat it they have been given a pot full of hope. If we have any kind of problems I envision (想象) a solution and put it in my pot and stir. My stirring is what keeps me focusing on what is good in the world. So instead of worrying about all that is around me, I keep stirring knowing that all is well.” 1.What is the main idea of paragraph 2? (no more than 12 words) 2.What do the underlined words mean in Paragraph 4? (No more than 2 words) 3.How did Grandma respond to the children pouring out worries? (no more than 8 words) 4.Why did Grandma consider stirring important? (No more than 12 words) 5.How do you deal with other people’s negative emotions? Please explain in your own words. (no more than 20 words ) 【答案】1.Grandma spent most days cooking meals and stirring at the stove. OR: Grandma was always busy cooking meals and stirring at the stove. 2.Complaining about Talking about 3.She smiled, provided advice and kept stirring. OR: By smiling, offering advice and keeping stirring. 4.(Because) It helped create/spread love, hope and positive thoughts. 5.I stay patient, offer comfort, and sometimes share a small positive story to lighten their mood. 根据第二段“Grandma cooked for a crew of 24 farmhands (农场工人) so most of her days were taken up cooking breakfast, lunch, and dinner for a bunch of loud men coming in from hunting or farming. She took care of five children as well so her house was a busy little place, but where you would find Grandma the most would be in front of her stove, stirring a pot of something.(奶奶为24名农场工人做饭,所以她的大部分时间都用来为一群打猎或务农归来的喧闹男人做早餐、午餐和晚餐。她还要照顾五个孩子,所以她的家是一个忙碌的小地方,但你最常能找到奶奶的地方是在她的炉灶前,搅拌着锅里的东西)”可知,该段主要描述奶奶大部分日子都忙于做饭并在炉灶前搅拌。 2.词义猜测题。根据第四段“One time Ruth watched as the farmhands ate quickly and went back out to work, hearing all of them grumbling about their lives. Then one by one the children came in to tell Grandma their own worries.(有一次,露丝看着农场工人快速吃完饭,然后回去工作,听到他们都在grumbling about自己的生活。然后孩子们一个接一个地进来告诉奶奶他们自己的烦恼)”,结合孩子们是来向奶奶倾诉烦恼,可推测农场工人也是在讲述生活不如意的事,所以“grumbling about”意思与“抱怨,谈论”相近。 3.细节理解题。根据第四段“She would smile, give them some kind of advice, and keep stirring.(她会微笑着,给他们一些建议,然后继续搅拌)”可知,奶奶对孩子们倾诉烦恼的回应是微笑、提供建议并继续搅拌。 4. 根据第五段“As everyone comes in and tells me about their life I put the love and positive thoughts into my pot and stir. Then when they eat it they have been given a pot full of hope. If we have any kind of problems I envision (想象) a solution and put it in my pot and stir. My stirring is what keeps me focusing on what is good in the world.(当每个人进来告诉我他们的生活时,我把爱和积极的想法放进锅里搅拌。然后当他们吃的时候,他们得到了满满一锅的希望。如果我们有任何问题,我会想象一个解决方案,把它放进我的锅里搅拌。我的搅拌让我专注于世界上美好的事物)”可知,奶奶认为搅拌重要是因为它能帮助创造和传递爱、希望以及积极的想法。 5.开放性试题。可根据自身观点回答,例如“I stay patient, offer comfort, and sometimes share a small positive story to lighten their mood.我会保持耐心,给予安慰,有时会分享一个积极的小故事来缓解他们的情绪”。 Passage 5 阅读短文,按照题目要求用英语回答问题。 Recently divorced and jobless, I needed work. I picked up a newspaper, flipped to the want ads, and found: Waitress Wanted-Day Shift. “Why not?” I giggled. I dressed up in a dark blue pencil skirt and white blouse and said to the mirror, “I can do this.” At the restaurant, the owner asked, “Have you had any experience?” “Oh, yes,” I smiled, listing places I’d worked as a teenager. It wasn’t entirely true — well, maybe a little. On my first day, the owner placed me in a back room. I busied myself filling salt shakers. Then I looked up to see a “herd” of ten men coming to my station. Panic set in. I picked up menus, my hands shaking. “I can do this,” I repeated. “Hi, y’all. My name’s Flo. I’m new, so please order the fish special to make it easy on me.” I have no idea why I put on a silly accent, but all the men laughed and ordered the fish. When the food came, I confidently placed three plates on one arm. Plate one came off nicely. Plate two, the same. Plate three, however, toppled over. Fish, fries and coleslaw fell directly onto the arm of the man in seat three. I apologized repeatedly and helped clean it, even the kitchen staff joining in. The man complained a bit, my face turning bright red. When I was back to the kitchen, I leaned against the wall, crying. And then I told myself again, “I can do this.” After composing myself, I calmly returned to the table, apologized and offered to pay for the cleaning bill. I brought out the rest of the food without incident. Feeling my awkwardness, the man softened and they talked in a low voice as if trying not to disturb me. Before leaving, they left on every plate a napkin with a smiley face and a twenty-dollar tip, a silent way to comfort and encourage me. “Yep,” I said to myself warmly, “I can do this.” 1.What did the author do to prepare herself before leaving for the interview? (no more than 10words) 2.How did the author feel when she saw ten men coming to her station? (no more than 5 words) 3.What does the underlined word “toppled over” in Paragraph 5 probably mean? (no more than 3words) 4.How did the author deal with the accident after returning to the table? (no more than 20 words) 5.What does the author mean by repeating “I can do this” throughout the story? Please explain in your own words. (no more than 20 words) 【答案】1.She dressed up and encouraged herself(in the mirror). 2.She felt panicked. 3.Fell over / Fell off/ Fell. 4.She apologized, offered to pay the cleaning bill, and brought out the rest of the food without incident. 5.She wants to encourage herself to stay confident despite awkward or embarrassing moments. 根据第二段“I dressed up in a dark blue pencil skirt and white blouse and said to the mirror, “I can do this.”(我换上深蓝色一步裙与白色衬衫,对着镜子自语:“我可以胜任这份工作。”)” 根据第三段“Then I looked up to see a “herd” of ten men coming to my station. Panic set in.(这时抬头看见十位男顾客朝我这边走来,我顿时心生慌乱。) ”可知,作者内心感到慌乱。 3.词句猜测题。根据第五段“Fish, fries and coleslaw fell directly onto the arm of the man in seat three.(鱼肉、薯条和凉拌卷心菜全都掉在了三号座位客人的手臂上。)” 根据第六段“I calmly returned to the table, apologized and offered to pay for the cleaning bill. I brought out the rest of the food without incident.(我镇定地回到餐桌旁道歉,并主动承担清洁费用,后续上菜全程顺利。)” 根据第二段“I dressed up in a dark blue pencil skirt and white blouse and said to the mirror, “I can do this.”(我换上深蓝色一步裙与白色衬衫,对着镜子自语:“我可以胜任这份工作。”)”及第三段“I picked up menus, my hands shaking. “I can do this,” I repeated.(我拿起菜单,双手不停发抖,心里默念:我一定可以的。)” Dad’s love for dark chocolate took root in the 1960s, when our family drove an hour to the only shop making it from scratch. My parents would buy dark chocolate almond bark We’d return with a white box tied with ribbon; at home, my father would ceremoniously break the chocolate into pieces, each piece with exactly two almonds — his engineer’s precision shining through. Dad was strict and quick to frustrate over work, but when he bit into a square of chocolate, the tightness in his shoulders would melt away, and a deep contented smile would spread across his face. That smile was why I joined the ritual (仪式) , even though dark chocolate tasted bitter to me — it was my window to his gentle side. After dinner, his call of “chocolate time” drew us to the living room. The ritual wasn’t just about candy; it was about being together. Friends and family knew my father loved chocolate, but few noticed how specific his tastes were. He spurned sugary or filled chocolates — only kept strong and simple ones. When gifted boxes of assortments (什锦) , he would pick the darkest plain pieces, leaving caramels (焦糖) and cordials (酒心) for the rest of us. We were all happy to help. As high-quality dark chocolate became widely available, my father no longer needed to make a long trip for his purchases. He began buying bars from the supermarket, but the ritual stayed. After my mother passed away, and I was a divorced empty nester, Dad and I grew especially close. We talked more and laughed more. And always, we ate chocolate — an indulgence (享受) he kept up until the very end of his life. Today, my grown children know they can always find an 86% cacao bar in my kitchen, just like in their Grandpa’s. Eating chocolate together is our family heritage — a quiet ritual binding us across generations. It’s sweet. It’s bitter. It’s ours. 1.What did Father’s way of breaking the chocolate into pieces reveal? (no more than 8 words) 2.How did chocolate influence Father’s behaviour? (no more than 10 words) 3.What does the underlined word in paragraph3 mean? (no more than 3 words) 4.What does the paragraph4 mainly tell us? (no more than 10 words) 5.Please explain how you deal with family relationship with an example. (no more than 25words) 【答案】1.His engineer’s precision. Or: Father did everything precisely. Or: He applied precision in engineering/technique to everything/daily tasks. 2.It made him gentle/ soft/ relaxed. Or: It softened him. Or: It brought out his gentle side. 3.Refused. / Rejected. / Disliked. / Not care for. 4.Even though the circumstances changed, the ritual remained. Or: Despite all the changes, the ritual continued. Or: The chocolate ritual went on / remained unbroken through life’s changes. 5.I have regular family dinners which provide a dedicated time for sharing daily life, fostering communication and a sense of belonging. 根据第一段中“My parents would buy dark chocolate almond bark. We’d return with a white box tied with ribbon; at home, my father would ceremoniously break the chocolate into pieces, each piece with exactly two almonds — his engineer’s precision shining through. (父母会买黑巧克力杏仁脆皮。我们会带着一个系着丝带的白盒子回家;在家里,父亲会郑重地把巧克力掰成小块,每块恰好有两颗杏仁——他工程师般的精准尽显无疑。)”可知,父亲掰巧克力的方式体现了他工程师的精准。故答案为His engineer’s precision. Or: Father did everything precisely. Or: He applied precision in engineering/technique to everything/daily tasks. 2. 根据第二段中“Dad was strict and quick to frustrate over work, but when he bit into a square of chocolate, the tightness in his shoulders would melt away, and a deep contented smile would spread across his face. (父亲平时很严厉,工作中容易烦躁,但当他咬下一块巧克力时,肩膀的紧绷感就会消散,脸上露出满足的笑容。)”可知,巧克力让父亲变得温柔放松。故答案为It made him gentle/soft/ relaxed. Or: It softened him. Or: It brought out his gentle side. 3. 根据第三段中“Friends and family knew my father loved chocolate, but few noticed how specific his tastes were. He spurned sugary or filled chocolates — only kept strong and simple ones. When gifted boxes of assortments, he would pick the darkest plain pieces, leaving caramels and cordials for the rest of us. (亲朋好友都知道父亲喜欢巧克力,但很少有人注意到他的口味有多挑剔。他spurned含糖或夹心的巧克力,只保留浓郁纯粹的黑巧克力。收到什锦巧克力礼盒时,他会挑最黑的纯巧克力,把焦糖和酒心巧克力留给我们。)”可知,父亲只保留浓郁纯粹的黑巧克力,由此可知,父亲不接受、拒绝其他种类的巧克力,故画线词意思是“拒绝”。故答案为Refused. / Rejected. / Disliked. / Not care for. 4. 根据第四段中“As high-quality dark chocolate became widely available, my father no longer needed to make a long trip for his purchases. He began buying bars from the supermarket, but the ritual stayed. After my mother passed away, and I was a divorced empty nester, Dad and I grew especially close. We talked more and laughed more. And always, we ate chocolate — an indulgence he kept up until the very end of his life. (随着高品质黑巧克力变得普及,父亲再也不用长途跋涉去购买了。他开始从超市买巧克力条,但这个仪式保留了下来。母亲去世后,我成了离异的空巢老人,我和父亲变得格外亲密。我们聊得更多,笑得更多。我们一直吃巧克力——这是他坚持到生命最后一刻的享受。)”可知,尽管生活境况改变,吃巧克力的仪式依然延续。故答案为Even though the circumstances changed, the ritual remained. Or: Despite all the changes, the ritual continued. Or: The chocolate ritual went on / remained unbroken through life’s changes. 5. I have regular family dinners which provide a dedicated time for sharing daily life, fostering communication and a sense of belonging. Passage 7 When sports journalist Shireen Ahmed thinks about covering the 2024 Olympics, one moment stands out: a video she shot on her phone of her and her workmates at CBC taken just as the Canadian men’s team won the 4×100m relay. That wasn’t the only viral moment from last year’s Games. In fact, Ahmed says she and her workmates used social media to cover the Olympics like never before. Some of the Games’ most viral moments took off owing to media companies or individual journalists’ posts, including photos of Yusuf Dikec, the Turkish shooter who went viral for his shooting stance (姿势), Likewise American gymnast Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles bowing to Brazilian Rebecca Andrade after she took gold in the women’s floor final, and Australia’s Rachael Gunn, whose awkward breakdancing drew the internet’s attention. These moments had a huge impact on how fans consumed the events. However, one-off viral moments aren’t the only way social media has changed sports reporting, Ahmed says. The dissemination of information and the ways that happened have changed greatly, which enable people to have access to athletes and watch their own commentary about personal and social issues. And media companies are increasingly relying on podcasting, a medium that has become hugely popular among audiences. According to a 2024 report from SiriusXM, there has been a 39 per cent rise in demand for sports podcasts since 2019. In 2022 alone, there was a 32 per cent increase in the number of sports podcasts being produced. At the same time, there was a 119 per cent growth in downloads, indicating podcast consumption grew more and faster. To Ahmed, videos might be an even bigger game-changer, especially on TikTok. That social media app has become extremely popular with sports journalists, who often use the platform to share a quick hit of analysis or opinion, or to deliver a short but informative explainer video, which breaks down a particular aspect of sport in 60 seconds or so. These are an important part of the overall editorial strategy for many sports departments, she says, because these concise, interesting and sometimes unexpected videos are both fascinating to audiences and effective at keeping them watching. 1.How did social media influence the way people experienced the 2024 Olympics? (no more than 10 words) 2.What does the underlined word “dissemination” in paragraph 2 mean? (1 word) 3.What is Ahmed’s opinion of sports videos on TikTok? (no more than 5 words) 4.What is the text mainly about? (no more than 10 words) 5.How does social media change your life? Please explain. (no more than 20 words) 【答案】1.It created many viral moments. 2.Spread. 3.They are game-changers. 4.Social media changes sports reporting. 5.It makes my daily communication and information-getting easier. 根据第二段“In fact, Ahmed says she and her workmates used social media to cover the Olympics like never before. Passage 8 阅读短文,按照题目要求用英语回答问题。 It’s strange how a single moment can shift everything you think you know. One winter morning all it took was a little stubbornness and a lot of snow for me to learn a lesson I’d remember for years. This is the story of how I wrecked my dad’s car. It was early January, and I was a senior in high school. It was a regular Tuesday morning, and like every other day, I grabbed my jacket, picked up the keys from the counter, and was about to head out when my dad stopped me. “Whoa, there,” he said, glancing at the snow piling up outside. “The roads are covered in snow. You’re taking the bus today.” I argued, pointing out that school was about to start, and I didn’t want to wait for the bus. My dad, known for his stubbornness, wouldn’t give in. After a few heated words, he sighed and handed me the keys. “Fine, but be careful,” he said. I slid into the car, a bit triumphant. The roads looked fine. I thought, barely an inch of snow, I started the car and pulled out of the driveway, feeling a surge (奔涌) of independence. But as I made my way through the neighborhood, the slippery roads tested my confidence. One sharp turn later, and I was in trouble — the car started to skid. I tried to slow down, but it was too late. The car slid right into a snowbank. I spent a long frustrating minute trying to get it out, pressing down on the engine, trying every trick I knew. Eventually, I realized I was going to have to call my dad. When he arrived, his face was a mix of anger and disappointment. We pulled the car out with some help, but the damage was done. Now, every time I’m tempted to ignore someone’s advice, I think back to that day, which left me a little poorer and a lot wiser. 1.What did the author’s father advise him to do due to the snowy conditions? (no more than 10 words) 2.What does the underlined word in Paragraph 5 most likely mean? (1 word) 3.Why did the author call his father before his arrival at school? (no more than 15 words) 4.What lesson did the author learn from this his experience? (no more than 10 words) 5.How do you handle disagreements with your parents? Please give an example of your own to illustrate. (no more than 30 words) 【答案】1.To take the bus to school./ To go to school by bus./ Father advised him to take the bus to school./ Father suggested him going to school by bus. 2.Proud./ Successful./ Victorious./ Satisfied. 3.He couldn’t get the car out by himself after it crashed into the snowbank. 4.It’s smarter to listen than to prove a point./ Listening to others’ advice prevents mistakes./ It’s better to think twice before refusing/rejecting others’ advice./ It’s wiser to follow others’ advice than insist on being right. 5.I listen calmly and explain my thoughts; for instance, when wanting to go out, I discuss safety plans with them./ I explain my view respectfully and communicate with them. For example, when choosing my future major, I shared my reasons and reached an agreement with them. 【导语】这是一篇记叙文。讲述了作者雪天不听父亲劝阻执意开车,车辆遇险后吸取教训,懂得了要听取他人建议的道理。 1.考查细节理解。根据第三段“The roads are covered in snow. You’re taking the bus today. (路上都是积雪,你今天坐公交车去上学)”可知,父亲建议作者雪天乘坐公交车上学。故答案可填:To take the bus to school./ To go to school by bus./ Father advised him to take the bus to school./ Father suggested him going to school by bus. 2.考查词句猜测。根据第四段“I argued, pointing out that school was about to start, and I didn’t want to wait for the bus. My dad, known for his stubbornness, wouldn’t give in. After a few heated words, he sighed and handed me the keys. “Fine, but be careful,” he said. (我争辩着,指出就要上学了,我不想等公共汽车。以固执著称的父亲不会让步。激烈地说了几句之后,他叹了口气,把钥匙递给了我。“很好,但要小心,”他说)”及第五段“I thought, barely an inch of snow, I started the car and pulled out of the driveway, feeling a surge (奔涌) of independence. (我想,雪还不到一英寸,我启动了车,驶出车道,一股独立的感觉涌上心头)”可知,triumphant在此处表达的是说服父亲后的得意心情。故答案可填:Proud./ Successful./ Victorious./ Satisfied. 3.考查细节理解。根据第五段“The car slid right into a snowbank. (汽车滑进了雪堆里)”及第六段“I spent a long frustrating minute trying to get it out, pressing down on the engine, trying every trick I knew. Eventually, I realized I was going to have to call my dad. (我沮丧地花了一分钟时间试图把它弄出来,踩油门,尝试了我知道的每一个技巧。最后,我意识到我必须给我爸爸打电话)”可知,作者给父亲打电话是因为把车开进了雪堆自己无法把它挪出来。故答案可填:He couldn’t get the car out by himself after it crashed into the snowbank. 4.考查主旨大意。根据最后一段“Now, every time I’m tempted to ignore someone’s advice, I think back to that day, which left me a little poorer and a lot wiser. (现在,每当我想忽视别人的建议时,我就会回想起那一天,那一天让我更穷了一点,也让我更聪明了一点)”及这次经历可知,作者从这件事中学到的道理是要听取他人的建议。故答案可填:It’s smarter to listen than to prove a point./ Listening to others’ advice prevents mistakes./ It’s better to think twice before refusing/rejecting others’ advice./ It’s wiser to follow others’ advice than insist on being right. 5.考查推理判断。根据作者的经历可知,不听建议可能会遭遇麻烦,亲身经历后能吸取教训,因此在与父母有分歧时,我们应该互相尊重、认真聆听、真诚沟通等。故答案可填:I listen calmly and explain my thoughts; for instance, when wanting to go out, I discuss safety plans with them./ I explain my view respectfully and communicate with them. For example, when choosing my future major, I shared my reasons and reached an agreement with them. Passage 9 阅读短文,按照题目要求用英语回答问题。 I lived in a big family in Johannesburg. I learned early in life how important the family was. Whatever each family member’s condition is, we are bound together by blood and love. When I was a kid, we often paid a visit to our relatives, especially my uncle who lived in Ellis Park. He was seriously affected by a disease and lived an hour away on the other side of Johannesburg — the “not so nice” part of the town. On our way to Ellis Park, my mom usually bought some drugs for my uncle and some meals for the gathering. Each time we entered Ellis Park, I would be surprised by the scene outside the car window. Poorly-dressed and dirty children played in the messy yards that were dotted with broken bicycles, toys and other junk. On the verandahs (走廊) were some men wearing dirty shirts with unshaven faces. When we reached my uncle’s house, we would often find him sitting on a chair on the verandah. He used to look at us through half-closed eyes and couldn’t recognize us because he had lost consciousness due to his illness. My mom would walk toward him and hug him, with a soft smile on her lips. The best time in my uncle’s family was at night when all the family members gathered together to enjoy the meals brought by my mother. The meals were delicious. But the greatest thing was that we chatted together, laughed together and cared about each other. Years later, my uncle recuperated from his illness thanks to continuous treatment and care from others. He was really grateful to the people around him. And we were glad that he regained health. Now we still often pay a visit to our family members, and so do they. I’m happy that I live in a family that is filled with love. 1.What was wrong with the author’s uncle in Ellis Park? (no more than 8 words) 2.What did Ellis Park look like? (no more than 5 words) 3.What did the author think of getting together at his uncle’s? (no more than 15 words) 4.What does the underlined word mean in paragraph 6? (no more than 1 word) 5.What do you learn from the story? Please explain in your own words. (no more than 20 words) 【答案】1.He suffered from a serious disease./He was seriously affected by a disease. 2.It was poor and messy. 3.It was an unforgettable memory/a good time because of the love and care they showed each other. 4.Recovered. 5.I should value my family, care about them and try to connect with them regardless of their conditions because only by doing so can we overcome any difficulty in our lives. 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。作者通过回忆患病叔叔的家庭探访经历,展现了血缘亲情如何通过日常关怀帮助亲人战胜疾病,印证家庭之爱的重要性。 1.细节理解题。根据第二段中“He was seriously affected by  a disease and lived an hour away on the other side of Johannesburg —  the “not so nice” part of the town.(他身患重病,住在约翰内斯堡的另一边——城里“不太好”的地方,一个小时车程的地方)”可知,作者住在Ellis公园的叔叔身患重病,或者说,他深受疾病的影响。故答案为He suffered from a serious disease./He was seriously affected by a disease. 2.细节理解题。根据第三段中“Poorly-dressed and dirty children played in the messy yards that were dotted with broken bicycles, toys and other junk. On the verandahs (走廊) were some men wearing dirty shirts with unshaven faces. (衣衫褴褛、脏兮兮的孩子们在凌乱的院子里玩耍,院子里散落着破碎的自行车、玩具和其他垃圾。走廊上站着一些人,他们穿着脏衬衫,脸上没有刮胡子)”可知,Ellis公园看起来贫穷又混乱。故答案为It was poor and messy. 3.细节理解题。根据第五段中“The best time in my uncle’s family was at night when all the family members gathered together to enjoy the meals brought by my mother. The meals were delicious. But the greatest thing was that we chatted together, laughed together and cared about each other. (我叔叔家最美好的时光是在晚上,所有的家庭成员聚在一起享受我妈妈带来的饭菜。饭菜很好吃。但最重要的是我们在一起聊天,一起笑,互相关心)”可知,对作者而言,在叔叔家相聚是一段难忘的回忆/一段美好的时光,因为一家人互相关爱。故答案为It was an unforgettable memory/a good time because of the love and care they showed each other. 4.词句猜测题。根据画线词的下文“thanks to continuous treatment and care from others. He was really grateful to the people around him. And we were glad that he regained health. (得益于大家一直以来的治疗和关怀。他真的很感激身边的人。我们很高兴他恢复了健康)”可知,由于治疗和关怀,作者的叔叔后来恢复了健康,划线词意思应该是“恢复”,与recovered“恢复,康复”意思一致。故答案为Recovered. 5.开放性试题。本题结合短文内容,言之有理即可。例如,根据第一段中“I learned early in life how important the family was. Whatever each family member’s condition is, we are bound together by blood and love. (我很小就知道家庭是多么重要。无论每个家庭成员的情况如何,我们都是由血缘和爱联系在一起的)”、第五段中“But the greatest thing was that we chatted together, laughed together and cared about each other. (但最重要的是我们在一起聊天,一起笑,互相关心)”和第六段中“And we were glad that he regained health. (我们很高兴他恢复了健康)”可知,作者回忆了一家人探访患病叔叔的经历,凸显了家人之间的相互关爱,血缘之间的紧密相连,作者为叔叔最终康复感到开心。由此可知,从故事中可以学到:不管他们情况如何,“我”应该珍惜“我”的家人,关心他们,并努力与他们建立连接,因为只有这样“我”们才能克服生活中的任何困难。故答案可为I should value my family, care about them and try to connect with them regardless of their conditions because only by doing so can we overcome any difficulty in our lives. Passage 10 阅读短文,按照题目要求用英语回答问题。 Growing up, I remember my father as a silent, serious man—not the sort of person around whom one could laugh. As a teenager arriving in America, knowing nothing, I wanted a father who could explain the human journey. In college, when friends called home for advice, I would sink into deep depression for what I did not have. Today, at twenty-seven, I have come to rediscover them in ways that my teenage mind would not allow — as adults and as friends with their own faults and weaknesses. One night after my move back home, I overheard my father on the telephone. There was some trouble. Later, Dad shared the problem with me. Apparently my legal training had earned me some privileges in his eyes. I talked through the problem with Dad, analyzing the purposes of the people involved and offering several negotiation strategies. He listened patiently before finally admitting, “I can’t think like that. I am a simple man.” Dad is a brilliant scientist who can deconstruct the building blocks of nature. Yet human nature is a mystery to him. That night I realized that he was simply not skilled at dealing with people, much less the trouble of a conflicted teenager. It’s not in his nature to understand human desires. And so, there it was — it was no one’s fault that my father held no interest in human lives while I placed great importance in them. We are at times born more sensitive, wide-eyed, and dreamy than our parents and become more curious and idealistic than them. Dad perhaps never expected me for a child. And I, who knew Dad as an intelligent man, had never understood that his intelligence did not cover all of my feelings. It has saved me years of questioning and confusion. I now see my parents as people who have other relationships than just Father and Mother. I now overlook their many faults and weaknesses, which once annoyed me. I now know my parents as friends: people who ask me for advice; people who need my support and understanding. And I’ve come to see my past clearer. 1.How did the author view her father when she was a teenager? (no more than 8 words) 2.Why did the author’s father decide to share his problem with the author? (no more than 15 words) 3.What does the underlined word mean in the context of Paragraph 4? (1 word) 4.What conclusion did the author finally reach about the differences between her and her father? (no more than 20 words) 5.If you were the author, how would you deal with the generation gap with your parents after gaining this new insight? (no more than 25 words) 【答案】1.Silent, serious and unhelpful. 2.Because he thought her legal training made her privileged. 3.Analyze. 4.Their differences result from different natures, not anyone’s fault. 5.I’d communicate more, understand their weaknesses and support each other as friends. 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。主要讲述作者从青少年时期对父亲的误解,到成年后理解其优缺点并视父母为朋友的转变。 1.考查细节理解。根据第一段中的“Growing up, I remember my father as a silent, serious man—not the sort of person around whom one could laugh. As a teenager arriving in America, knowing nothing, I wanted a father who could explain the human journey.(成长过程中,我记得父亲是个沉默严肃的人 —— 绝非那种能让人在他身边欢笑的人。十几岁初到美国时,我一无所知,渴望有一位能为我指引人生旅途的父亲)”可知,作者青少年时期认为父亲沉默、严肃且无法提供帮助。故答为Silent, serious and unhelpful. 2.考查细节理解。根据第三段中的“Apparently my legal training had earned me some privileges in his eyes. Later, Dad shared the problem with me.(显然,我的法律训练在他眼中为我赢得了一些特权。后来,爸爸把这个问题告诉了我)”可知,父亲分享问题是因为认为作者的法律训练让她具备相关能力。故答为Because he thought her legal training made her privileged. 3.考查词句猜测。根据第四段中的“Dad is a brilliant scientist who can deconstruct the building blocks of nature. Yet human nature is a mystery to him.(爸爸是一位杰出的科学家,他能deconstruct自然界的基本构成。然而,人性对他来说是个谜)”可知,作为科学家,父亲擅长对自然构成进行分析拆解,故“deconstruct”意为“分析”。故答为Analyze. 4.考查细节理解。根据第五段中的“And so, there it was — it was no one’s fault that my father held no interest in human lives while I placed great importance in them. We are at times born more sensitive, wide-eyed, and dreamy than our parents and become more curious and idealistic than them.(就这样,真相豁然开朗 —— 父亲对人情世故毫无兴趣,而我却极为看重,这并非任何人的过错。我们有时生来就比父母更为敏感、天真烂漫、充满梦想,也比他们更加好奇、更富理想主义)”可知,作者意识到差异源于天性不同而非谁的过错。故答为Their differences result from different natures, not anyone’s fault. 5.考查开放性试题。题目:如果你是作者,在获得这种新的见解后,你会如何处理与父母的代沟?答案不唯一,合理即可,例如:我会多沟通交流,理解他们的不足,像朋友一样相互支持。故答为I’d communicate more, understand their weaknesses and support each other as friends. Passage 11 阅读短文,按照题目要求用英语回答问题。 If your goal is to be happier in the year ahead, you might focus on your body rather than your mind. You can start right now by sitting up a little straighter. Then give a brief smile-even a fake one. These tweaks will tell your brain that something good is about to happen and you’re more likely to feel positive. Sound unlikely? In research led by cognitive scientist John Bargh at Yale, people who held a cup of warm coffee before an interview were more likely to find an individual warm and kind. Happiness isn’t exclusively a conscious decision. Very often our bodies send signals about how we feel and our conscious brains are simply responding rather than controlling. Feeling happier may start with going outside since research shows that being around water-including lakes, streams and ponds-improves well-being more dramatically than almost anything else. When everything is familiar, our brains go into a kind of holding pattern. Any new sensory input will inspire your brain to wake up-which brings its own kind of pleasure. In one 2013 study, researchers found that having variety in a daily routine and visiting places people had never been simply made them feel happier. Body reacts faster than mind. In a baseball game, when a pitcher throws a ball at 100 miles per hour, it takes about four-tenths of a second to get to the batter. Conscious awareness takes about half a second-which means that the ball crosses the plate before the batter quite literally “knows” it. If the body functioned only with conscious input, nobody would ever hit a baseball. You don’t have to wait for events to make you happy-you can always look for the good. If you make your body a partner in the effort, you’re even more likely to optimize your happiness. Hold that warm coffee, spend time by the water, or go for a walk in the sunshine. Your body will send the message that all is well-and your brain just might start believing it. 1.How does sitting up straight and smiling influence our emotions? (no more than 9 words) 2.How can people feel happier according to the 2013 study? (no more than 12 words) 3.Why does the author mention the example of baseball game? (no more than 10 words) 4.What does the underlined word in the last paragraph mean? (one word) 5.What would you do to make you happy after learning this passage and why? (no more than 20 words) 【答案】1.They signal the brain to feel positive. 2.By having variety in daily routine and visiting new places. 3.To show body reacts faster than mind. 4.Improve. 5.I would always smile and spend more time outside in nature because it improves well-being and makes us happier. 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了通过身体行为(如坐直、微笑、接触自然等)来提升幸福感的方法,强调身体反应先于大脑意识,改变日常习惯和环境能有效促进快乐。 1.考查细节理解。根据第一段“You can start right now by sitting up a little straighter. Then give a brief smile-even a fake one. These tweaks will tell your brain that something good is about to happen and you’re more likely to feel positive. (你可以从现在开始坐直一点。然后给一个短暂的微笑——即使是假的。这些调整会告诉你的大脑,好事即将发生,你更有可能感到积极)”可知,坐直身体或微笑此类的行为调整可以使我们的大脑感觉积极,预期好事发生。故答案填They signal the brain to feel positive. 2.考查细节理解。根据第三段“In one 2013 study, researchers found that having variety in a daily routine and visiting places people had never been simply made them feel happier. (在2013年的一项研究中,研究人员发现,在日常生活中丰富多彩,参观人们从未去过的地方,会让他们感到更快乐)”可知,根据一个2013年的研究,通过使日常活动多样化或者去一些陌生的地方参观都可以使人更快乐。故答案填By having variety in daily routine and visiting new places. 3.考查细节理解。根据第四段“Body reacts faster than mind. In a baseball game, when a pitcher throws a ball at 100 miles per hour, it takes about four-tenths of a second to get to the batter. Conscious awareness takes about half a second-which means that the ball crosses the plate before the batter quite literally ‘knows’ it. (身体的反应比大脑更快。在棒球比赛中,当投手以每小时100英里的速度投球时,球到达击球手只需要大约四分之一秒。而意识的感知大约需要半秒——这意味着球会在击球手‘意识到’之前穿过本垒板)”可知,文中以棒球为例,来证明段首的结论:身体的反应比大脑更快。故答案填To show body reacts faster than mind. 4.考查词义猜测。根据划线词前文“If you make your body a partner in the effort, you’re even more likely to(如果你让你的身体成为你努力的伙伴,你甚至更有可能)”及后文“your happiness. Hold that warm coffee, spend time by the water, or go for a walk in the sunshine. Your body will send the message that all is well-and your brain just might start believing it.(你的幸福感。喝杯热咖啡,在水边呆一会儿,或者在阳光下散散步。你的身体会发出一切正常的信息,你的大脑可能会开始相信它)”可知,举例说让身体舒适会提升幸福感,由此推测,划线词意为“提升”。故答案填Improve. 5.考查归纳总结及表达。根据第一段“If your goal is to be happier in the year ahead, you might focus on your body rather than your mind. You can start right now by sitting up a little straighter. Then give a brief smile-even a fake one. These tweaks will tell your brain that something good is about to happen and you’re more likely to feel positive.(如果你的目标是在未来的一年里更快乐,你可能要关注你的身体而不是你的思想。你可以从现在开始坐直一点。然后给一个短暂的微笑——即使是假的。这些调整会告诉你的大脑,好事即将发生,你更有可能感到积极)”及最后一段“Hold that warm coffee, spend time by the water, or go for a walk in the sunshine. Your body will send the message that all is well-and your brain just might start believing it.(喝杯热咖啡,在水边呆一会儿,或者在阳光下散散步。你的身体会发出一切正常的信息,你的大脑可能会开始相信它)”可知,调整身体做一些好的动作,或做一些让身体舒适的事情会更快乐,例如去水边或树林里待着,阳光下散步,常常微笑等。故答案填I would always smile and spend more time outside in nature because it improves well-being and makes us happier. Passage 12 阅读短文,并按照题目要求用英语回答问题。 By day, Robert Titterton is a lawyer. In his spare time though he goes on stage beside pianist Maria Raspopova—not as a musician but as her page turner. “I’m not a trained musician, but I’ve learnt to read music so I can help Maria in her performance.” Mr Titterton is chairman of the Omega Ensemble but has been the group’s official page turner for the past four years. His job is to sit beside the pianist and turn the pages of the score (乐谱)so the musician doesn’t have to break the flow of sound by doing it themselves. He said he became just as nervous as those playing instruments on stage. “A lot of skills are needed for the job. You have to make sure you don’t turn two pages at once and make sure you find the repeats in the music when you have to go back to the right spot.” Mr Titterton explained. Being a page turner requires plenty of practice. Some pieces of music can go for 40minutes and require up to 50 page turns, including back turns for repeat passages. Silent onstage communication is key, and each pianist has their own style of “nodding” to indicate a page turn which they need to practise with their page turner. But like all performances, there are moments when things go wrong. “I was turning the page to get ready for the next page, but the draft wind from the turn caused the spare pages to come off the stand,” Mr Titterton said, “Luckily I was able to catch them and put them back.” Most page turners are piano students or up-and-coming concert pianists, although Ms Raspopova has once asked her husband to help her out on stage. “My husband is the worst page turner,” she laughed. “He’s interested in the music, feeling every note, and I have to say: ‘Turn, turn!’ “Robert is the best page turner I’ve had in my entire life.” 1.What does Robert Titterton do in his spare time?(no more than 10 words) 2.How does Mr Titterton help the pianist as a page turner?(no more than 12 words) 3.What’s the main idea of Paragraph 3 and 4?(no more than 15 words) 4.How do you understand the underlined phrase?(no more than 2 words) 5.What do you think of Ms Raspopova’s husband from the passage? Please explain it in your own words.(no more than 25 words) 【答案】1.He works as a page turner for pianists. 2.He sits beside the pianist and turns the pages of the score. 3.A lot of skills and practice are needed to be a page turner. 4.Detach/Drop off。 5.He is not good at page turning because he focuses too much on the music. 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了翻谱员Robert Titterton的工作与经历。 1.考查细节理解。根据第一段中“In his spare time though he goes on stage beside pianist Maria Raspopova—not as a musician but as her page turner.(不过,在业余时间,他会登上舞台,站在钢琴家玛丽亚・拉斯波波娃身旁——不是以音乐家的身份,而是作为她的乐谱翻页员)”可知,Robert Titterton在业余时间会作为翻谱员与钢琴家Maria Raspopova一起上台。故答案为He works as a page turner for pianists. 2.考查细节理解。根据第二段中“His job is to sit beside the pianist and turn the pages of the score(乐谱)so the musician doesn’t have to break the flow of sound by doing it themselves.(他的工作是坐在钢琴家身旁翻动乐谱,这样音乐家就不必自己翻页而打断演奏的流畅性)”可知,Titterton先生作为翻谱员,他的工作是坐在钢琴家旁边翻乐谱,这样音乐家就不必自己翻页而打断音乐的流畅性。故答案为He sits beside the pianist and turns the pages of the score. 3.考查段落大意。根据第三段““A lot of skills are needed for the job. You have to make sure you don’t turn two pages at once and make sure you find the repeats in the music when you have to go back to the right spot.” Mr Titterton explained.(Titterton先生解释道:“这份工作需要很多技巧。你必须确保不要一次翻两页,还要确保在音乐需要重复时能回到正确的位置找到重复段落。”)”和第四段的“Being a page turner requires plenty of practice.(成为一名翻页者需要大量的练习)”可知,这两段主要讲述了翻谱员需要具备的技能和需要的大量练习,这些都是为了确保音乐表演的顺利进行。故答案为A lot of skills and practice are needed to be a page turner. 4.考查短语理解(词句猜测)。根据第五段的“I was turning the page to get ready for the next page, but the draft wind from the turn caused the spare pages(我当时正在翻页,为下一页做准备,但翻页时产生的气流导致备用的乐谱页)”可知,Titterton在翻页时,气流导致备用乐谱从谱架上掉落。所以“come off”在此表示 “脱离、脱落”,与 detach或drop off含义相近。故答案为Detach/Drop off。 5.考查推理判断。根据最后一段中““My husband is the worst page turner,” she laughed. “He’s interested in the music, feeling every note, and I have to say: ‘Turn, turn!’”(她笑着说:“我丈夫是最糟糕的乐谱翻页员。他太沉迷于音乐了,感受着每个音符,所以我不得不一直喊‘翻页,翻页!’”)”可知,Raspopova女士认为她的丈夫是最差的翻谱员,因为他太专注于音乐,感觉每一个音符,需要她不断提醒他翻页。这说明她丈夫因过于沉浸音乐而不擅长翻谱。故答案为He is not good at page turning because he focuses too much on the music. Passage 13 阅读下面短文,按照要求完成阅读任务。 Not long ago, my 12-year-old son, Lucian, and I were standing on the knife’s edge. I mean this quite literally. We had just completed a four-day hike in Maine that concluded by climbing Mount Katahdi. At its highest peak, Mount Katahdi has an extremely dramatic, mile-long ridge (山脊) known as the Knife Edge. It’s scary and quite dangerous: The mountain has claimed at least 17 lives. We knew we had to be careful, but surprisingly, the danger was part of the attraction. Lucian and I were both longing for a bit of risk. We proceeded along the ridge and Lucian moved with such agility (灵敏) and balance. Then suddenly, right in the center of the Knife Edge, we encountered a group of bushes. And that’s when a killer bee stung (蜇伤) Lucian. Lucian was pale-faced, and he told me very calmly: “Dad, this is serious. I could die.” If this were a novel, the perfectly timed disaster, and my son’s calm yet serious remark would be cut by some clever editor. But this was not a novel. It was real life. “What’s your favorite video game?” I asked my son. He shot me a confused look. I pressed him, asking him again. Unwillingly, he began answering my question—or more accurately, he began asking me why I talked about video games at a moment like this. By the time he finished, a minute had passed. He showed no signs of having an allergic reaction. I pointed this out to him. Another minute passed. And then, unexpectedly, we realized, he was totally fine. When we returned home, Lucian and I both recounted our adventure—to my wife, his brother, and all the grandparents — until it quickly became a family tale. And it occurred to me that on some level, Lucian and I are both fond of exploring courageously. And this is how we found ourselves at the top of Mount Katahdin, crossing over the Knife Edge. 1.What did the author and his son do in Maine?(no more than 5 words) 2.What does the underlined part in paragraph 1 probably mean?(no more than 12words) 3.What happened to Lucian in the center of the Knife Edge?(no more than 10 words) 4.Why did the author ask Lucian about his favorite video game?(no more than 10words) 5.Do you think it’s good to seek adventures like the author and his son? Why or why not?(no more than 20 words). 【答案】1.They took/ completed a four-day hike. 2.At least 17 people lost their lives in the mountain. 3.He was attacked by a killer bee./ A killer bee stung Lucian/ him. 4.To distract Lucian./ To shift Lucian’s attention from the incident. 5.Yes, I think taking an adventure is to jump out of our comfortable zone. It gives us the chance to explore a new world and leaves us exciting and unusual experiences. 【导语】这是一篇记叙文。作者和儿子攀登Katahdin山穿越 Knife’s Edge时,儿子被蜂蜇,有惊无险,这次冒险成为家庭趣事。 1.考查细节理解。根据第一段“We had just completed a four-day hike in Maine that concluded by climbing Mount Katahdin.(我们刚刚在缅因州完成了一次为期四天的徒步旅行,这次旅行以攀登 Katahdin山结束)”可知,作者和他的儿子在缅因州进行了一次为期四天的徒步旅行。故答案为They took/completed a four-day hike. 2.考查词句猜测。根据划线词上文“It’s scary and quite dangerous(它很可怕而且相当危险)”可知,这座山很可怕而且相当危险,说至少有 17 人在这座山中失去了生命。故“The mountain has claimed at least 17 lives”意思就是至少有 17 人在这座山中失去了生命。故答案为At least 17 people lost their lives in the mountain. 3.考查细节理解。根据第二段“And that’s when a killer bee stung (蜇伤) Lucian.(就在那时,一只杀人蜂蜇伤了卢西安)”可知,在Knife Edge的中间位置,卢西安被一只杀人蜂蜇伤了。故答案为He was attacked by a killer bee./ A killer bee stung Lucian/ him. 4.考查推理判断。根据第三段““What’s your favorite video game?” I asked my son. He shot me a confused look. I pressed him, asking him again.(“你最喜欢的电子游戏是什么?”我问儿子。他困惑地看了我一眼。我追问他,又问了一遍)”可知,卢西安被蜇伤后很紧张害怕,说自己可能会死,而作者问他最喜欢的电子游戏,从常理推断,作者是想通过问这个问题转移卢西安的注意力,让他不要一直想着被蜂蜇这件可能很危险的事情。故答案为To distract Lucian./ To shift Lucian’s attention from the incident. 5.考查开放性试题。本题为开放性试题,言之有理即可,参考答案可以为:是的,我认为冒险就是跳出我们的舒适区。它给了我们探索新世界的机会,给我们留下了令人兴奋和不寻常的经历。故答案为Yes, I think taking an adventure is to jump out of our comfortable zone. It gives us the chance to explore a new world and leaves us exciting and unusual experiences. Passage 14 阅读短文,根据题目要求用英语回答问题。 Michael Evans was standing in line at the Wayne County Treasurer’ s Office in Detroit last August, waiting to pay tax, when he heard a disturbing sound ahead of him. The woman at the window was crying and so was the cashier. Then Evans learned why: He heard the cashier inform the woman that her house would be sold at auction due to her inability to pay tax on time. Evans, a businessman, couldn’t accept what was happening. He approached the window and said to the cashier, “If you can get her house back, I’ll pay tax for her.” The amount that was due was $5,000. The two women were surprised and the despair turned into disbelief, Evans promised to go straight to the bank and come back with the money. He didn’t renege on his promise. When he returned to the treasurer’s office, he asked someone else waiting in line to hand the $5,000 check to the cashier. Evans was trying to slip away quietly. He didn’t want to get attention. Passage 15 阅读表达 When it comes to New York City, most people probably picture in their minds the attractive lifestyles of the rich and famous or think of Broadway, Times Square and other tourist attractions. However, there is another side of New York City that is far less known. The summer after tenth grade, I went with my group on a mission trip to New York City for a week. I had always known the existence of poverty in major cities, but I had never seen it to a degree as high as we did there. We worked at several different locations with our small groups. One day, we served at a soup kitchen and what I saw astounded me. I couldn’t believe my eyes. We saw people from all walks of life. We met people who came there because they had no job, no home and no money. Another day, we volunteered at a homeless shelter. We helped people there do some cleaning and spent time talking to them and listening to their stories. It was incredible to see how thankful they were to us for just spending a couple of hours talking to them, or just be listening. Every person we met on that trip had a unique story, and they were surprisingly willing to share. They were just in so much need to be listened to. Besides, whatever their stories were, there was a common thread we saw in them—hope. These were people who had nothing and yet they were so hopeful about their future. My experience during that summer changed my life. I used to picture my future as containing a big house, fancy cars and a lot of money, but now I see my future differently. I hope it will be one where I can be helpful to others and give back to society. After college, I would really like to work for some sort of global aid organization that deals with the social issues, such as poverty and homelessness. 1.What is the part of New York that is less known to people? (10 words) 2.What does the underlined word “astounded” in Paragraph 2 mean? (1 word) 3.What did the author see in the people at the homeless shelter? (15 words) 4.What kind of organizations does the author want to work for after college?(10 words) 5.How does the author’s experience inspire you? (20 words) 【答案】1.That a lot of people are living in poverty./The side of poverty and homelessness. 2.Surprised./Astonished./Shocked./Startled. 3.They needed to be heard and were hopeful about their future. 4.A global aid organization that deals with the social issues. 5.He shows me how important it is to help other people and contribute to society. 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了作者在纽约的志愿经历及对自己的影响。 1.推理判断题。由文章第二段中“I had always known the existence of poverty in major cities, but I had never seen it to a degree as high as we did there. (我们遇到了一些人,他们来这里是因为没有工作,没有家,没有钱。)”可知,在纽约很多人生活在贫困中或纽约有贫困和无家可归的一面。故答案为:That a lot of people are living in poverty./The side of poverty and homelessness.。 2.考查词句猜测。由文章第二段中“I couldn’t believe my eyes. (我简直不敢相信自己的眼睛。)”可知,作者不敢相信自己看到的,因此astounded意为“使惊讶”,与Surprised./Astonished./Shocked./Startled.。故答案为:Surprised./Astonished./Shocked./Startled.。 3.考查细节理解。由文章倒数第二段“Every person we met on that trip had a unique story, and they were surprisingly willing to share. They were just in so much need to be listened to. Besides, whatever their stories were, there was a common thread we saw in them—hope. These were people who had nothing and yet they were so hopeful about their future. (我们在那次旅行中遇到的每个人都有一个独特的故事,令人惊讶的是,他们都愿意分享。他们只是太需要被倾听了。此外,不管他们的故事是什么,我们都在他们身上看到了一条共同的线索——希望。这些人一无所有,却对未来充满希望。)”可知,他们需要被倾听,并对自己的未来充满希望。故答案为:They needed to be heard and were hopeful about their future.。 4.考查细节理解。由文章最后一段中“After college, I would really like to work for some sort of global aid organization that deals with the social issues, such as poverty and homelessness. (大学毕业后,我真的很想为一些全球性的援助组织工作,处理一些社会问题,比如贫困和无家可归。)”可知,作者想为处理社会问题的全球援助组织工作。故答案为:A global aid organization that deals with the social issues.。 5.开放性题目,此题要求回答:作者的经历如何激励你?(20字),答案不唯一,合理即可。例如:他向我展示了帮助他人和为社会做出贡献的重要性。故答案为:He shows me how important it is to help other people and contribute to society.。 Passage 1 My presentation was horrible. (no more than 20 words) Passage 2 阅读短文,按照题目要求用英语回答问题。 For many years, I had enjoyed painting as well as making jewelry and garden art. 1.Why did the author become depressed at seventy-one years old?(no more than 15 words) 2.How might the author feel about her first day at OATS?(no more than 5words) 3.What does the underlined word“conducive” in paragraph 5 probably mean?(1 word) 4.What did the author do at the end of the day camp?(no more than 10words) 5.What do you think of voluntary work?(no more than 20 words) Passage 3 阅读下面短文,按照要求完成阅读任务。 After retiring from professional soccer in 2023, Amir Lowery returned home and began coaching at a youth club. (no more than 20 words) Passage 4 阅读短文,并按照题目要求用英语回答问题。 Family stories are amazing to me. (no more than 20 words) Passage 6 阅读短文,按照题目要求用英语回答问题。 Dad’s love for dark chocolate took root in the 1960s, when our family drove an hour to the only shop making it from scratch. My parents would buy dark chocolate almond bark (杏仁巧克力) . We’d return with a white box tied with ribbon; at home, my father would ceremoniously break the chocolate into pieces, each piece with exactly two almonds — his engineer’s precision shining through. (no more than 25words) Passage 7 When sports journalist Shireen Ahmed thinks about covering the 2024 Olympics, one moment stands out: a video she shot on her phone of her and her workmates at CBC taken just as the Canadian men’s team won the 4×100m relay. (no more than 20 words) Passage 8 阅读短文,按照题目要求用英语回答问题。 It’s strange how a single moment can shift everything you think you know. (no more than 30 words) Passage 9 阅读短文,按照题目要求用英语回答问题。 I lived in a big family in Johannesburg. (no more than 20 words) Passage 10 阅读短文,按照题目要求用英语回答问题。 Growing up, I remember my father as a silent, serious man—not the sort of person around whom one could laugh. (no more than 25 words) Passage 11 阅读短文,按照题目要求用英语回答问题。 If your goal is to be happier in the year ahead, you might focus on your body rather than your mind. (no more than 20 words) Passage 12 阅读短文,并按照题目要求用英语回答问题。 By day, Robert Titterton is a lawyer. Please explain it in your own words.(no more than 25 words) Passage 13 阅读下面短文,按照要求完成阅读任务。 Not long ago, my 12-year-old son, Lucian, and I were standing on the knife’s edge. Evans often finds himself on the giving end of charitable situations, though for years he went unrecognized. He is the president of a firm, which owns a variety of businesses. A few weeks after the tax incident, Evans received the Spirit of Detroit Award for his lifetime of sparing his money to help others. Again, he didn’t want the attention, but his son John felt the honor was overdue. “It was good to see my dad finally get the recognition he deserves,” John says. Michael Evans is nearing 60 and will retire soon. His son hopes to carry on with his father’s businesses, and with his dad’s determination to give money to people in need. “I model myself on my father,” John says. 1.Why was the woman crying at the Wayne County Treasurer’s office? (no more than 10 words) 2.What does the underlined part in Paragraph 2 mean? (no more than 5words) 3.Why was Michael Evans presented the Spirit of Detroit Award? (no more than 12words) 4.What is Michael Evans’ son’s wish? (no more than 15 words) 5.What can you learn from the story? (no more than 20 words) Passage 15 阅读表达 When it comes to New York City, most people probably picture in their minds the attractive lifestyles of the rich and famous or think of Broadway, Times Square and other tourist attractions. (20 words) 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
