For years I wanted to do everything my elder brother Tyson did, but no matter how hard I tried, I was always the neglected(被忽略的) one. My legs just weren't made to run like his. I could never play football or basketball well. I probably would have continued trying to keep up with him for the rest of my high school career, but when my family moved, everything changed. Tyson left for college, so I had to start at a new school all by myself. This new start gave me an opportunity to redefine myself and discover an entirely new meaning of “cool”. I don't know what made me decide to try some new activities at the new school, but one day I chanced to show up for an after-school meeting of the Science Olympiad team. I had always been fascinated with chemistry, biology, and math, but since those interests hadn't fit Tyson's definition of “cool”, I had never pursued them. On this day, for some reason, I did. As we organized teams, prepared resources and handled problems, I felt more connected than I ever had to any sports team. I didn't feel as though I needed to keep up with anybody else; I was finally with peers(同龄人) who understood me. It was so good to feel accepted for what I'm good at. For the first time in my life, I actually felt cool. Now I know who I am! I'm Tyson's little brother, but that's only part of my identity. I'm a cool guy in my own way, too. I'm relieved to know that “cool” has a much broader definition than what I used to think. 1.What makes Tyson a typical example of “cool”? A.He has long legs and dresses fashionably. B.He pays little attention to others. C.He always shadows his brother. D.He is really good at sports. 2.What made the author feel “cool”? A.Going to a new school all by himself. B.Accepting peers with the same interest. C.Taking part in activities of a science team. D.Refusing to be identified as Tyson's brother. 3.What can we learn from the story? A.Never judge a book by its cover. B.Find yourself and be yourself. C.Life is full of possibilities. D.Skill is no burden. Ⅱ.七选五 (2026江苏昆山震川高级中学月考) As a sixth-grade teacher, I often find that my spring parent-teacher conferences begin with the same answer to my first question. “So, how does Kevin think things are going this term?” I will ask. “We don't know,” Kevin's parents will say. “ 1 ”    Anyone who interacts with middle school students on a regular basis knows the familiar answer to the question “How was your day?” 2 As these young men and women experiment with their desire for independence, they often create distance between themselves and their family.    A few weeks after our conferences, I introduced a new poetry assignment: the “family history” poem. 3 I had no idea what to expect although I had heard from several parents that the assignment had led to lively discussions and the sharing of stories that ranged from humorous to tragic. I was not prepared for the power of the poetry I was about to read.     4 Not only was each student able to dig up a meaningful part of his or her family's past, but each poet also reflected his or her distinctive voice. Furthermore, each of their poems demonstrated a deep level of meaning that went beyond the story itself.     5 This time around I am going to allow students more time to listen to and digest their family stories before sitting down to write. I am also going to introduce several more literary devices. It is my hope that this assignment gives my students a deeper, more meaningful appreciation of the art of poetry while it illuminates the ways in which their family can help them become confident, capable, and connected young men and women.  A.He never talks to us anymore. B.It is usually “Fine!” and “Whatever!”. C.Sit down and write a poem about this. D.The following week, poems began to roll in. E.I plan to make a few adjustments this spring. F.All of the family history poems were astonishing. G.I puzzled over the ways I could try to bridge this communication gap. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.        Ⅲ.完形填空 (2024河北邢台五校质检联盟期中) We've all had a wrong number text before, but how often does it lead to years-long friendships? 长难句 原句 As any younger brother will tell you, having a big brother involves a lot of walking in someone else's shadow, especially when you have a brother who is a typical example of “cool”. 分析 本句是主从复合句。As引导非限制性定语从句,having a big brother为主句主语,involves为主句谓语,a lot of walking in someone else's shadow为主句宾语,when引导条件状语从句,其中还有who引导的定语从句,修饰先行词brother。 根据第三段的内容和最后一段第四句“For the first time in my life, I actually felt cool.(这是我有生以来第一次确实感到很酷。)”
