(2025-2026·高二上课时作业)For several days I (Jane Eyre) saw little of Mr Rochester. In the morning he seemed much occupied with business, and in the afternoon gentlemen from the neighbourhood called and sometimes stayed to dine with him. When his foot was well enough, he rode out a great deal.
During this time, all my knowledge of him was limited to occasional meetings about the house, when he would sometimes pass me coldly, and sometimes bow and smile. His changes of manner did not offend me, because I saw that I had nothing to do with the cause of them.
One evening, several days later, I was invited to talk to Mr Rochester after dinner. He was sitting in his armchair, and looked not quite so severe, and much less gloomy. There was a smile on his lips, and his eyes were bright, probably with wine. As I was looking at him, he suddenly turned, and asked me, “Do you think I’m handsome, Miss Eyre?”
The answer somehow slipped from my tongue before I realised it: “No, sir.”
“Ah, you really are unusual! You are a quiet, serious little person, but you can be almost rude.”
“Sir, I’m sorry. I should have said that beauty doesn’t matter, or something like that.”
“No, you shouldn’t! I see, you criticise my appearance, and then you stab (刺) me in the back! You have honesty and feeling. There are not many girls like you. But perhaps I go too fast. Perhaps you have awful faults to counterbalance (抵消) your few good points.”
I thought to myself that he might have too. He seemed to read my mind, and said quickly, “Yes, you’re right. I have plenty of faults. I went the wrong way when I was twenty-one, and have never found the right path again. I might have been very different. I might have been as good as you, and perhaps wiser. I am not a bad man, take my word for it, but I have done wrong. It wasn’t my character, but circumstances which were to blame. Why do I tell you all this? Because you’re the sort of person people tell their problems and secrets to, because you’re sympathetic and give them hope.”
It seemed he had quite a lot to talk to me. He didn’t seem to like to finish the talk quickly, as was the case for the first time.
“Don’t be afraid of me, Miss Eyre.” He continued. “You don’t relax or laugh very much, perhaps because of the effect Lowood School has had on you. But in time you will be more natural with me, and laugh, and speak freely. You’re like a bird in a cage. When you get out of the cage, you’ll fly very high. Good night.”

(2026·全国一卷)Not long ago,my fifth-grade son Kevin asked me about the meaning of a word in a novel.“Look it up,” I responded.“But my screen time is off,” he said.I looked pointedly at the bookshelf that held at least three dictionaries, and Kevin sighed(叹气) dramatically.“Can’t you just use your phone?” he asked.Suddenly it occurred to me that he did not even know how to use a dictionary.
I took down one of the dictionaries, and we read it together for a few minutes before I handed it to him.It took him a few tries to find the word in question. While going through the pages,he kept saying,wide-eyed:“How can there be this many words?” After a while,he looked at me and asked,“Do you know all these words,Mom?” I smiled.“I definitely do not know all these words,”I said.“But that’s why this is one of my favorite books.”
I had my first dictionary as a gift for my 13th birthday.I decided that I wanted to learn as many words as I could and started marking every entry I looked up with a pencil to measure my progress.I continued to make these pencil marks for years, and when I went off to college,I packed that dictionary in my suitcase.
Kevin wanted to see the dictionary.I felt a small pain in my chest. The dictionary was stolen at the end of my freshman year of college.“That’s so sad,” he said,“but you still know all those words, even without the book.” I realized that this was true.I still made it through the next three years of college, even without the book. And it wasn’t,ultimately, the dictionary that got me there—not really.
Now I understand that although my son may be learning differently,he is still learning. It’s not about the words themselves or how we learn them, but the wanting to know them, the curiosity and the appetite.
24.(2026·6月全国一卷)What does Kevin usually do to get the meaning of a word?
A.Use electronic devices. B.Consult a paper dictionary.

A.It helped her through college. B.It was given to Kevin as a gift.
C.It bore witness to her efforts. D.It was a valuable limited edition.
27.(2026·6月全国一卷)What has the author come to realize about learning?
A.It is never too late to start.

C.Children need role models.
D.Dictionaries are still a useful tool.

(2026·湖南长沙一模)One June day in Avonlea, Prince Edward Island, Matthew Cuthbert and his sister, Marilla Cuthbert, lived on Green Gables farm. They wanted to adopt an orphan boy at the train station, but Matthew found no boy waiting — only a thin, red-haired girl named Anne. Not knowing what else to do, he brought her home. Having heard about Anne’s lonely childhood, they thought that Anne might not be the “useful” boy they’d wanted to work on the farm, but she needed their sympathy. Anne was overjoyed to be allowed to stay, and she always stayed positive whatever happens.
Anne began to learn the household duties. However, even though Marilla often scolded Anne for daydreaming and ignoring her chores, Anne never complained and kept a positive heart. Later both Marilla and Matthew found Anne’s imaginative talk interesting, and soon they can’t imagine the farm without her.
In the fall, Anne started off well at Avonlea school, but then she was teased by Gilbert Blythe, a handsome boy in her grade, for her red hair. Anne hit Gilbert on the head, and she was punished by her teacher and refused to attend school for a while. After Anne returned to school, she took a renewed interest in her studies and engaged in a growing academic competition with Gilbert. Besides, Anne formed a story club to help her friends improve their imaginations.
When she was 16, Anne studied for the entrance exam to Queen’s Academy. Anne worked hard, and saw her hardships not as burdens but as fuel for the future. The following September, Matthew and Marilla said goodbye when Anne settled into Queen’s for the year. Anne, during her studies there, earned a teaching certificate and won a scholarship.
But just as Anne’s future seemed to stretch out before her, tragedy struck. On Anne’s second morning at home, Matthew suddenly died of a heart attack. Soon, Marilla saw a specialist and learnt that unless she took measures to preserve her eyesight, she would be blind within six months. The quiet farm, once sustained by the two siblings, now rests on the weak shoulders of a lonely woman, with no one else to rely on. Anne stands silently in the dim farmyard, watching Marilla’s lonely figure with a heavy heart. The scholarship letter from Queen’s lies untouched on her desk…
28.(2026·湖南长沙一模)What made Matthew and Marilla decide to adopt Anne?
A.Anne’s appealing talk. B.Anne’s pitiful childhood.
C.Anne’s willingness to the farm. D.Anne’s similarity to the boy.
29.(2026·湖南长沙一模)What do we know about Anne from paragraphs 2 and 3?
A.She fell behind Gilbert.
B.She teased Gilbert’s look.
C.She neglected housework often.
D.She escaped her teacher’s punishment.
30.(2026·湖南长沙一模)What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.Marilla would go blind in six months.
B.Marilla would leave the farm for good.
C.Anne might prioritize family over study.
D.Gilbert would offer to manage the farm.
31.(2026·湖南长沙一模)Which saying can best show the main idea of the text?
A.Blood is thicker than water.
B.Opportunity knocks but once.
C.Every cloud has a silver lining.
D.When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

Six years ago, I became friends with Helen Vendler, a famous poetry critic who died this year, after she came to a talk I gave at Harvard about my 1965-66 Fulbright year in Ireland. Our friendship was close at the outset and was deepened by many letters between us.
Some critics gain notice by something new they discover in the literature they examine. Helen became the most important critic of the age by dealing with something old and basic — the fact that great poetry was, well, lovable. Her vast knowledge of it was not like anyone else’s, and she embraced (接受) the poets she admired with enthusiasm.
I never asked Helen why she had come to my talk in the first place, though I had recognized her immediately. After spending a life with English and American poetry — especially the poetry of Wallace Stevens — how could I not? The tilt (倾斜) of her head, the lines around the mouth that always seemed on the edge of saying something meaningful and the sad-kind-wise eyes of the most significant literary figure since Edmund Wilson. But unlike Wilson, Helen was never forced to show off. She knew as much about American writing as Wilson, and I believe, loved it more.
When recently the American Academy of Arts and Letters awarded Helen the Gold Medal for Belles Lettres and Criticism, she told me it caught her completely off guard, and joked perhaps the committee had made their decision based on her advanced age — and if so, she saw no reason to object.
Shelley called poets the “unacknowledged legislators (立法者) of the world.” I never fully got that famous line. But if the legislators’ laws apply to feeling and conduct, I think he was onto something. If one reads poetry as deeply as Helen did, and stays with it, and lets it roll around in one’s head, the effect is transporting. You find yourself better understanding feelings and language.
32.What made Helen famous as a critic?
A. She pushed the study of poetry a big step forward. B. She built harmonious relationships with many poets.
C. She had a remarkable ability to discover new poetry. D. She focused on something old and essential about poetry.
33.In what way did Helen differ from Wilson?
A. She was less engaged in English poetry. B. She cared little about gaining reputation.
C. She knew more about American writing. D. She was better at using different facial expressions.
34.How did Helen feel when informed of the award?
A. Surprised. B. Nervous. C. Excited. D. Grateful.
35.Why does the author mention Shelley’s line in the last paragraph?
A. To offer Helen’s interpretation of the poem. B. To demonstrate Shelley’s influence on Helen.
C. To recognize Helen’s approach to reading poetry. D. To highlight the similarity between Shelley and Helen.

A Piggyback Ride from a Stranger
Once a year, Bannister climbs to High Rock Lookout where she scattered her mother’s ashes 23 years ago. 36 Last August, Bannister, then 79, went on her own, figuring she’d be fine because she’s an experienced hiker.
She arrived at the trail early and made her way to the lookout. As she headed back down, her foot got caught in a hole in the ground. 37 When sitting up, she knew immediately she had broken her leg. She cried out for help, and before long, a stranger approached and called 911. They were told a search and rescue team would arrive in five hours.
“It wasn’t very encouraging,” Bannister says. “I asked if anyone had painkillers, because the pain was pretty substantial then.” 38 But two young men, Troy May, an Air Force airman and his friend Layton Allen, came over to see what was going on. When seeing Bannister in extreme pain, they offered to carry her to the bottom of the trail.
May eased Bannister onto his back and started hiking downward. He carried her for most of the nearly three-hour journey, and Allen carried her for the rest. “That was just one kindness,” says Bannister. 39 One, a physical therapist, bandaged Bannister’s foot and built a makeshift splint (夹板) for her leg. The other did breathing exercises with her to help calm her. During the long hike down, her rescuers shared stories to distract her from the mounting pain. Once reaching the parking lot, they rushed Bannister to the nearest hospital.
40 “I think we’ll be lifelong friends,” Bannister says.
A. She was almost in despair.
B. No one in the surrounding area did.
C. She fell forward against all expectations.
D. A couple hiking that day also lent a hand.
E. They have visited her several times afterwards.
F. Therefore, she visited there regularly in honor of her.
G. She usually hikes with someone along the 3.2-mile trail.

Having been teaching anthropology (人类学) at Dartmouth College for 15 years, I still remember the day when I first encountered the book Margaret Mead’s Coming of Age in Samoa, a very important book on the study of the social and cultural development of peoples.
When I was fourteen, I earned money in the summer by cutting lawns, and within a few weeks I had built up a body of customers. I got to know people by the flowers they planted, by the things they lost in the grass or stuck in the ground on purpose. I learned something about the measure of my neighbors by their preferred method of payment: by the job, by the month—or not at all.
Mr. Ballou fell into the last category, and he always had a reason why. On one day, he had no change for a fifty, on another he was simply out when I knocked on his door. Still, except for the money, he was a nice enough old guy, always waving his hat when he’d seen me from a distance. Sure, I kept track of the total, but I didn’t worry about the amount too much.
Then, one late afternoon in mid-July, the hottest time of the year, I was walking by his house and he opened the door, mentioned me to come inside. The hall was cool, shaded, and it took my eyes a minute to adjust to the dim light.
“I owe you,” Mr. Ballou, “but...”
I thought I’d save him the trouble of thinking of a new excuse. “No problem. Don’t worry about it.”
“The bank made a mistake in my account,” he continued, ignoring my words. “It will be cleared up in a day or two. But in the meantime I thought perhaps you could choose one or two volumes for a down payment.”
He gestured toward the walls and I saw that books were stacked (堆放) everywhere. It was like a library, except with no order to the arrangement.
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。
Mr. Ballou encouraged me to read, borrow or keep the books I like.

D. A couple hiking that day also lent a hand.
E. They have visited her several times afterwards.
F. Therefore, she visited there regularly in honor of her.

B.Profound and restrained.
C.Nature-centered and complicated.
12.What does Johnson say about Sonnet 18?
A.It has a rural setting.
B.It has strict rhyme schemes.
C.It is raw and powerful.
13.Whose works focus on social problems?
A.William Shakespeare.
B.Robert Frost.
C.Langston Hughes.
【答案】11.A 12.B 13.C
【原文】M: Hey, Anne! Have you read any English poems recently? We’re studying different poets in class, and I find their styles so fascinating.
W: Yeah, Johnson. I’ve been reading Robert Frost’s poems. His writing is so simple yet deep. Like in The Road Not Taken, he talks about choices in life using nature as a metaphor. Do you like Frost’s work?
M: Definitely. His poems often have a rural setting and explore deep philosophical ideas.
W: Absolutely! How about you? What are you reading recently?
M: I love Shakespeare’s poems, especially his sonnets. Like Sonnet 18 — Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day? — it’s all about love and beauty, but with strict rhyme schemes and iambic pentameter.
W: True! Shakespeare’s language is more complex, with lots of metaphors and classical references. His sonnets often deal with themes like time, love, and immortality. But then there’s Langston Hughes — his poetry is completely different, right?
M: Oh yeah! He is a key figure in the Harlem Renaissance, and his work is raw and powerful, focusing on African American experiences and social justice.
W: It’s amazing how each poet has a unique voice. Poetry is all about approaching different styles anyway. Want to exchange some poem recommendations?
M: Of course.

M: Thanks.
W: I once read your book Kevin. Although it has been nearly ten years since it was published, it is still a hit. It’s about a little boy called Sees, who always blames his mistakes on his imaginary friend, right?
M: Yes, I want children to know that it’s okay to make mistakes, but being honest is even more important.
W: It’s truly a meaningful book. Could you recommend a few of your other books?

Last year I published a book named The Moon Haven Chronicles: The Last Wolf. It tells the story of four friends in moon haven who sneak out on a full moon night and uncover the secret of the wolfman.

【原文】Langston Hughes was born in Missouri in 1902 but was raised by his grandmother after his parents separated. When not living with his grandmother, he traveled with his mother from town to town. While living in Ohio in his early teenage years, Langston Hughes wrote a number of poems in rhyme, and his eighth grade class elected him as the class poet. He moved to Mexico after high school and wrote The Negro Speaks of Rivers in 1921. It expressed his sadness at the endless hardship of the 1930s. Hughes traveled to the Soviet Union, Japan and Haiti. After many travels he returned to Harlem to make it his home, which is an area of New York City in northeast Manhattan, where many African-American people live. He wrote one of his most famous poem, Harlem, in 1951. Ten years later he published Black Nativity which caused public arguments about race relations. He died in 1967. Many people refer to Langston Hughes as the most famous black poet due to his influence on African-American literature.

但文中并没有体现他一开始就对简・爱friendly(友好)。
最后一段罗切斯特说:“You’re like a bird in a cage. When you get out of the cage, you’ll fly very high.”(你像笼中鸟,走出笼子会飞得很高。)

A.Annoyed. B.Disappointed.

31.(2026·湖南长沙一模)Which saying can best show the main idea of the text?

D

56.
分析句子可知,come在句子中作a lonely prince的定语,且a lonely prince与come构成主动关系,故用现在分词表主动,故填coming。
59.

第二节 读后续写(25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

【答案】Mr. Ballou encouraged me to read, borrow or keep the books I like. Facing so many books for the first time, I had no idea which one to choose. Nice enough, he searched for me and handed a fairly thick book and asked me to tell him what the book was about the next week. It was my first encounter with world literature, and I was so impressed by the power a novel could contain and absorbed in reading all those vivid characters and the elegant, simple language.
To this day, thirty years later, I clearly remember this experience. Now I am a teacher teaching anthropology at college. For that year, Mr. Ballou never paid me some money for cutting his lawns but led me to the road that is far more valuable than money. A book, if it arrives before you at the right moment, in the proper season, will change the course of all your life.
