B[2025菏泽期中] When I was a kid, my dad would often recite poems to me, especially short, funny ones. One that I especially loved was a short poem called “The Purple Cow”, written by a man named Gelett Burgess, which read: I never saw a purple cow; I never hope to see one. But I can tell you, anyhow, I'd rather see than be one. Gelett Burgess was an American writer, poet, and humorist, who was famous for his children's poems. Born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1866, Burgess moved to San Francisco, California in 1887 after graduating from college. There he began his career as a freelance(自由职业的) artist and illustrator(插画师) before turning to writing just a few years later. One of Burgess' most famous works is The Goops, a series of illustrated children's poems. The poems describe a group of misbehaving children who are taught lessons about manners and good behavior through lighthearted poetry and playful blackandwhite illustrations. He first published these poems in a magazine called The Lark that he created with a group of friends, including children's poet and mystery writer Carolyn Wells. His poem “The Purple Cow” also first appeared in The Lark in 1895. It became such a famous and popular poem that strangers would often recite it to him. Finally, Burgess became so sick of hearing it. In addition to poetry, short stories and novels, Burgess even wrote a dictionary of words he invented called Burgess Unabridged: A New Dictionary of Words You Have Always Needed, in which he coined the word “blurb”, which is still commonly used today. Burgess passed away in 1951, but his works have continued to be enjoyed by readers of all ages. His poetry and children's books remain popular to this day. His unique style and sense of humor made him a beloved person in American literature. 24. What is mentioned about Gelett Burgess after he moved to San Francisco? A. He attended college there. B. He lived a very difficult life. C. He did not take up writing at first. D. He became famous as an illustrator. 25. Which of the following could describe the poems in The Goops? A. They are really interesting. B. They are well received by writers. C. They pioneered a new form of poetry. D. They made Burgess create a magazine. 26. What did the strangers' behavior show? A. Burgess was often made fun of by his fans. B. Burgess' poems were difficult to remember. C. Burgess liked reciting his poems to readers. D. Burgess' poem “The Purple Cow” was greatly loved. 27. What does the last paragraph show about Gelett Burgess? A. He is still known as a writer today. B. He has influenced many new poets. C. His poems have become out of date. D. His poems are mainly popular with kids. C[2025南阳六校期末联考] On November 13, 2024, the Japanese poet Shuntarō Tanikawa passed away at the age of 92. Born in December 1931, Shuntarō Tanikawa was different among the modern Japanese poets who became wellknown after World War Ⅱ. He was called the leading figure of modern Japanese poetry and his works also had a very high reputation in the Chinese poetry world. His father, Tetsuzō Tanikawa, was a famous modern Japanese philosopher and literary theorist. In Japan, he was known as the “Poet of the Universe”, the “People's Poet”, and the “Textbook Poet”. One of his collections of poems had been republished more than fifty times and sold over 800,000 copies. The yearly money he got from the lyrics and school songs he wrote was more than $800,000. He made a lot of money from his poems, moved countless readers, and brought a lot of joy to children with his nursery rhymes. However, in the early days of his career, he was ignored by the poetry circle, because he didn't want to be like those selfcentered poets who shut themselves in a small circle. Instead, he liked to write for ordinary people and never cared that his works were published in those “useless” commercial magazines that socalled refined poets looked down upon. In 2013, Southern People Weekly interviewed Shuntarō Tanikawa. When they talked about the power of poetry, he said, “The influence of poetry on society is very small. Even though it's small, this power should still be kept. Just like electrons, we can't see the tiny electrons with our eyes, but they will have an effect on our surroundings. Maybe poetry is like that … Right now, the power of poetry can't be compared with the power of the economy, politics, and the military. But in the long history, in another 100 years or 500 years, maybe the power of poetry will be much greater than theirs.” 28. What can we learn about Shuntarō Tanikawa from paragraph 2? A. Tanikawa's early failures. B. How he became wealthy. C. His unique artistic choices. D. The history of Japanese poetry. 29. What can be inferred about Tanikawa's early works? A. They were rejected by mainstream poets. B. They were immediately popular. C. They were written only in Chinese. D. They focused on military themes. 30. What does the underlined word “refined” in paragraph 2 mean? A. Inexperienced. B. Superior. C. Odd. D. Selfless. 31. What does Tanikawa's comparison of poetry to electrons suggest? A. Poetry belongs in science labs. B. Modern poets should study physics. C. Electronic books will replace poetry. D. Small things can create big impacts. D[2025南京六校联合体月考] Reading, writing and sharing poetry can help people deal with loneliness and relieve feelings of anxiety, a new study shows. Research by the University of Plymouth and Nottingham Trent University found that many people took to sharing, discussing and writing poetry as a means to seek the positive impact on their wellbeing. As readers connect with the emotions and experiences of the poet, this emotional resonance(共鸣) can contribute to a sense of shared humanity, reducing feelings of loneliness and causing deeper interpersonal connections. Additionally, the act of reading or writing poetry can provide an emotional release(释放), helping to manage stress and anxiety, which is important for maintaining mental health. The findings are based on a survey of 400 people which showed that poetry helped those experiencing common mental health symptoms(症状) as well as those suffering from grief. Over half(51%) of respondents indicated that reading and/or writing poetry had helped them deal with feelings of loneliness, and for a further 50% it had helped with feelings of depression. Around a third(34%) felt that it helped them feel “less anxious”,24% felt that it helped them “feel better able to solve my problems”, 17% expressed that it enabled them to deal with issues relating to loss of friends or relatives, while 16% said it helped with ongoing mental health symptoms. “These results show the power of poetry,” said Anthony Caleshu, Professor of Poetry and Creative Writing at the University of Plymouth. “Writing and reading poetry, as well as engaging with the website, had a considerable positive impact on the wellbeing of the participants.” In addition to supporting their health and wellbeing, the website informed social and cultural recovery and offered an understanding of how poetry was being used as a mode of conversation. Poetry often reflects cultural heritage and personal identity, providing a sense of belonging and selfawareness. This connection to one's roots and to universal human experiences can strengthen selfesteem(自尊) and provide comfort in times of need. It now provides a means for people around the world to manage their lives using poetry. 32. Why does reading poetry help with feelings of anxiety? A. It improves physical health through relaxation. B. It promotes people's confidence in themselves. C. It provides an understanding of personal identity. D. It offers an emotional expression and connection. 33. According to paragraph 3, how many participants felt their anxiety reduced? A. About 200. B. About 136. C. About 96. D. About 64. 34. What does the last paragraph mainly focus on? A. The unique characteristic of the poetry. B. The role of poetry in health and wellbeing. C. The social and cultural function of poetry. D. The value of poetry in increasing selfesteem. 35. By writing the passage, the author intends to ________. A. recommend poetry as a form of treatment B. reveal the impact of poetry on mental health C. encourage people to read and/or write poetry D. promote the use of poetry in cultural recovery Writing poetry can seem frightening, especially if you do not feel you are naturally creative. Parents would also be invited to watch. One afternoon, the schoolmaster called me into his office. He said with a smile, “Nancy, could you write a poem and read it during the coming event?” “Of course,” I answered excitedly. I had loved poetry since the fifth grade. When my first poem was published, my friends and teachers started to describe me as the class poet. I left the schoolmaster's office that afternoon feeling quite happy. Then, for weeks, I worked on my poem, carefully designing the content, structure and sound. I practiced reciting it aloud every day. When the evening for the event finally came, I was ready. Well, I was ready until I looked around and realized how many people there were in the school hall. How could I present my poem in front of more than 400 people? I was just a seventhgrader. No one would take my work seriously. What was worse, I had never spoken in front of a huge crowd before. I sat in my chair, wanting to bury(隐藏) myself. Maybe they would forget I was supposed to read. “Hey, Nancy, I saw your name in the program. Good luck,” my little brother shouted. His voice rose as he took his seat a few rows down with his class. I nodded, struggling to keep calm. I knew my parents were somewhere in the hall. Before long, the lights faded(暗下来), the crowd went quiet, and the schoolmaster got on stage to introduce the list of performers. My name was at the end of the list, so I had to sit through an hour of absolute anxiety. It wasn't until the students from the fourth grade were singing that my teacher led me downstairs to the area next to the stage. My mind was blank(空白的). Then suddenly, I was on stage with the bright white lights blinding my view of the audience. When I walked to the microphone in the center of the stage, I somehow tripped over something and stupidly fell down. All of the kids burst into laughter. I was about to run away when my teacher came up to me. ___________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ When I finished my reading, the hall was silent at first. _____________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第一部分 第一节 1—5 CCABB 第二节 6—10 BCBCA 11—15 ABCAC 16—20 CCAAB 第二部分 第一节 21—25 BDCCA 26—30 DACAB 31—35 DDBCB A 【语篇导读】本文是一篇应用文。 根据第二段中“Writing Contest entries shall be in no more than 5 pages, either neatly handwritten or typed, with single or double spacing.” 根据Official Rules for Complete Guidelines部分中“The winners will be announced online”可知,如果赢得了比赛,你的名字会被公布在网上。 23. 根据最后一段中“The mission of Dream Quest One Poetry and Writing Contest is to inspire and motivate anyone having the desire or love for poetry and writing”可知,比赛的目的是激励和鼓舞任何热爱诗歌和写作的人。 根据题干关键词after he moved to San Francisco定位到第二段中“moved to San Francisco … There he began his career as a freelance artist and illustrator before turning to writing just a few years later” 可知,Burgess迁居旧金山后,最初从事的是自由艺术家和插画师工作,并未立即开始写作。 根据题干关键词The Goops定位到第三段中“The poems describe … through lighthearted poetry and playful blackandwhite illustrations.” D项“它们促使Burgess创办杂志”与第三段中“first published these poems in a magazine called The Lark that he created”逻辑不符,应是先创办杂志,后发表诗歌。 根据题干关键词strangers' behavior定位到第四段中“strangers would often recite it to him”可知,陌生人经常向Burgess背诵《紫色奶牛》,这一行为体现了该诗的受欢迎程度。 27. 根据最后一段中“Burgess passed away in 1951, but his works have continued to be enjoyed by readers of all ages. His poetry and children's books remain popular to this day.” 根据题干关键词early works定位到第二段中“he was ignored by the poetry circle”可推断,A项“被主流诗人拒绝”是对“被诗坛忽视”的合理推断。 30. 根据画线词所在句“he liked to write for ordinary people and … those ‘useless’ commercial magazines that socalled refined poets looked down upon”并结合上文selfcentered poets who shut themselves in a small circle可知,这类诗人自视甚高,轻视商业杂志,因此refined应表示“自视优越的,高雅的”。 根据题干关键词comparison of poetry to electrons定位到第三段中“Even though it's small, this power should still be kept. Just like electrons … they will have an effect on our surroundings”可知,谷川俊太郎将诗歌比作电子,强调其虽微小(当下影响力小),但能产生实际影响。 根据题干关键词help with feelings of anxiety定位到第二段中“As readers connect with the emotions and experiences of the poet, this emotional resonance can contribute to a sense of shared humanity … the act of reading or writing poetry can provide an emotional release, helping to manage stress and anxiety”可知,阅读诗歌通过引起情感共鸣(连接)和释放情感来缓解焦虑。 33. 根据第三段中a survey of 400 people和“Around a third(34%) felt that it helped them feel ‘less anxious’”计算可得:400×34%=136,因此约136名参与者认为他们的焦虑感减轻了。 34. 根据上文“He spoke with purpose and warmth”可知,Lemke老师说话坚定而热情;结合下文run a tight ship可知,此处指他的态度让“严格管理班级”这一点变得清楚明确。 根据下文“we'd learn 400 lines of poetry that year. By heart.” 43. adapt to适应;grow up长大;figure out弄明白;search for寻找。根据上文“I was a restless boy”及下文“who I was in my Jewish family”可知,作者是个躁动的少年,正在努力弄清楚自己在犹太家庭中的身份。 根据上文“learn 400 lines of poetry that year. By heart.” 下文go over the poems line by line until I could recite them by __53__也是提示。 根据下文“Mr Lemke had us __46__ poems like delicious dishes”可知,此处指几周时间慢慢流逝,老师开始引导学生学习诗歌,progress和the weeks搭配,表示时间的推进。 根据下文imagined the event that inspired the poem可知,学生需要想象启发诗歌创作的事件,这需要了解诗人的生平经历。 根据下文away in my bedroom and go over the poems line by line可知,作者把自己关在卧室里逐行复习诗歌。 shut与in my bedroom构成“专注复习诗歌”的语境。 及go over the poems line by line可知,此处指作者反复复习这些诗歌直到能将它们熟记于心。 根据下文“Mr Lemke had given me through poetry”及invited me to treasure it as part of myself可知,多年后作者意识到老师通过诗歌给予自己的是一份珍贵的礼物。标题A Gift for the Heart也是提示。 56. to 57. independence 58. a 59. to expect 60. astonishing 61. but 62. carried 63. more 64. 固定短语the answer to …,意为“…… 57. 固定搭配not only … but (also) … 空处修饰名词time,根据上文“I plan to make a few adjustments this spring.” One possible version: My_Favorite_Poet There_are_many_famous_poets_all_over_the_world. My favorite poet is Du Fu, one of the greatest Chinese poets. Known as “the Sage of Poetry”, Du Fu wrote with a realistic style and gave a vivid account of what was happening in his age. More importantly, Du Fu showed great concern over poor people's lives. Many of his poems reflected the great gap between the rich and the poor, and the effects of war on the people. Du Fu's poems reflect realities and pay attention to common people's lives. That is why I like Du Fu most. One possible version: I_was_about_to_run_away_when_my_teacher_came_up_to_me. He joked that I had fallen because I was eager to bow to the audience. His humor helped me deal with my embarrassment. Then he invited the audience to clap. Feeling less nervous, I took the microphone and cleared my throat before reading the title. Surprisingly, my voice sounded clear and loud. The hall was silent. I continued reading, with words coming out in the right order and lines flowing together appropriately. When_I_finished_my_reading,_the_hall_was_silent_at_first. With sweat running down my forehead, I bit my lip nervously. Maybe no one liked my poem. Then, out of the silence, there was clapping and cheering. I looked for my parents in the sea of faces, and saw my mother wiping away tears and my father smiling. With a lightheaded feeling and a happy smile, I bowed slightly and walked off the stage. I greeted each person I met when going back to my seat, with relief and gratitude spreading warmly through my body. Text 1 M: I'm looking for a birthday gift for my mom. Do you have any suggestions? W: How about this beautiful scarf? It's soft and comes in her favorite color. Text 2 M: Hey, Sally, let's do something fun this weekend. How about watching a movie? W: That sounds nice, but I'd rather go for a walk on the beach or fly kites in the park. M: Good idea! Let's fly kites in the park. Text 3 M: I can't believe it's already the weekend. I'm planning to visit my grandparents. What about you? W: I'm just going to rest, enjoy myself at home and catch up on some sleep. I've been so busy lately. Text 4 M: I've been thinking about taking up a new hobby, but I'm not sure what to do. W: What kind of activities do you like? Maybe something creative like painting or writing? M: I'm not very good at drawing, but I enjoy reading books. Maybe I could start writing my own stories. Text 5 W: My brother caught a cold. What would you recommend for him to eat? M: You can give him some soup, but make sure it's not too hot. He should rest and drink plenty of water. W: Thanks. How often should I remind him to take his medicine? M: Remember to take it every six hours and he will be better soon. Text 6 W: Hi, I'm calling about the new movie Ne Zha 2. Is it still on? M: Yes, it's playing at the cinema all week. You can catch either the 7 p.m. or 9 p.m. show. W: I'd like to go at 7 p.m. Is there a discount for students? M: Yes, there's a 10% discount for students after 6 p.m. W: Perfect! Can I book tickets online? M: Yes, you can. Just visit the cinema's website to reserve your seat. W: Great! I'll do that. Thanks for the information! Text 7 M: Hey, Lisa, are you ready for the school trip tomorrow? W: Almost, Tim. I just need to pack my bag. I'm so excited! M: Me too. I heard we're visiting a museum first, and then a park where we can have lunch. My mom asked me to bring an umbrella—it might rain. You should bring one too. W: Thanks, I will. I'm also going to bring snacks and my favorite drinks. Did you finish your homework? M: Yeah, I did it last night. I wanted to play games and watch TV instead, but I knew I'd be too busy today. W: Smart move. I'll finish mine after packing. Oh, I hope we'll see some cool statues in the museum! M: Same here. I hope to see some beautiful paintings and handcrafts. Text 8 W: You grew up in the town of Greenfield, right? What was your childhood like there? M: It was wonderful. Greenfield was small, and we didn't have many activities, but it was peaceful. My friends and I spent a lot of time exploring, playing sports, and making up our own games. W: Sounds like you had a joyful childhood. Did you study in Greenfield as well? M: Yes, I studied there before heading to my university in London. W: Do you visit the town often? M: Yes, I go back a few times each year, mainly to take care of the old house that my family has there. W: Do you ever meet up with old friends when you visit? M: Sometimes, yes. Some of my childhood friends still live there. And it's always nice to catch up and remember our adventures. W: That sounds lovely. Text 9 M: Hey, I found this bike for sale online. It's 150 dollars, and they say it's in good shape. Should we get it? W: That sounds like a fair price, but we should check a few things first. I saw a shop downtown selling bikes for 120 dollars. They also repair old ones, so maybe we could find a better deal there. M: True, but going downtown takes time, and we need to pay for parking. If this online one is ready to ride, it might save us trouble. What if the shop's bikes need fixing? That could cost extra. W: Good point. Still, I'd rather see the bike myself before buying it. Online photos can trick you. What if we ask the seller for more details first? M: OK, that works. I'll message him and ask him about the bike's condition. W: I'll check the shop's opening hours too; just in case we want to visit later. M: Great. Let's decide after we hear back. Text 10 Hello, everyone! Welcome to our town's new garden tour. I'm excited to share how we grow fresh produce here. A few years ago, visitors couldn't see much because our gardens were small and only had flowers. But now, we've made big changes. We use sunny fields to grow vegetables like tomatoes and carrots all year. During the tour, you'll see these fields under bright sunlight, which helps the plants grow strong. Many people think we use lamps indoors, but no—it's all natural light outside. You'll also taste some fresh snacks we make from the harvest, though drinks aren't included—bring your own water! Next week, we're starting a birdwatching event by the lake. It's a fun way to see local birds, not fish like some asked about. So, enjoy the tour, try the snacks, and come back for the birds!
