【参考范文】
Dear Mark,
I’m happy to receive your letter. Your parents don’t support your basketball training, and I’m worried about you. However, I have nothing against your training.
I agree teenagers should be allowed to make their own decisions. First of all, hobbies will not get in the way of schoolwork. What’s more, we are serious enough to be responsible for ourselves.
At the same time, I hope you can have proper communication with your parents to express your opinions. Besides, you are supposed to balance your training and schoolwork. Hope things work out and everything will be better!
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节(满分25分)
【参考范文】
Taking a deep breath, Li Hua began to tell his teacher what he had been through over the past eighteen months. He spoke of the shame from his first “58”. He admitted he once considered cheating, but a deeper conviction stopped him. His voice steadied as he described 6 a.m. vocabulary recitations in the hallway, lunch breaks replaying listening clips, and countless nights with only a dim lamp and error-riddled papers. Progress was agonizingly slow. Yet those incremental gains taught him that failure was not his enemy, but his most honest teacher. When he mentioned his mock IELTS score, his voice carried quiet gratitude for the struggle itself.
When the teacher finally looked up from the application form, there was a thoughtful smile on her face. “Li Hua,” she said softly, “I’ve rarely met a student who turned failure into fuel like you.” She slid the form toward him. “This program looks for resilience — the ability to fall and rise, to persist when no one watches. You’ve proven that in ways no transcript could capture. Keep that fire from your darkest moment; it will carry you further than any grade.” Li Hua nodded, his fingers steady as he took up his pen — not as a student who survived failure, but as one forged by it.

Dear Jack,
I remember the moment — it truly hit me that your autism(自闭症) lasted forever. I had already mentally planned our trips up north with the boys. I was going to spend endless hours playing baseball with you — like Grandpa did with me.
When we said goodbye to kindergarten I knew it was real. I spent some time being sad. Now you are 8. You still have no words. We have never had one of those father-son moments I pictured when you were a baby. But I’m learning that’s OK. I still have unbelievable things to offer as your dad, even if they weren’t the things I originally expected.
You have taught me to be patient. You have taught me that it’s OK to be different and to be sad when life doesn’t go as planned. You have taught me that it is OK to talk about those feelings and fight for what is right. Stand up and say this is wrong, and encourage others to stand up for you and say the same.
My job on this earth is to create a world for you and other kids like you. Be the voice you don’t have, and build the kind of community which I want to see you grow up in. I used to shy a way from contacting people with disabilities or just not consider them. Before you were born, I was so caught up in my own world that I probably wouldn’t have even noticed. Now, I see things differently. I notice. You did that for me. And hope my example will do that for others.
Your mom and I have spent 8 years trying to find your voice. And honestly, we don’t know if we ever will. I promise you I will spend my life keeping you safe and making this world better for you.
21. What can be learned about the author?
A. He is at a loss what to do to help Jack. B. He is to blame for Jack’s present condition.
C. He has changed his attitude to the disabled. D. He hasn’t accepted the reality up to now.
22. How does the author sound in the text?
A. Ashamed. B. Caring.
C. Regretful. D. Indifferent.
23. In which section of a magazine may this text appear?
A. Science. B. Entertainment.
C. Sports. D. Relationship.
B
The winter break is just about to end. Soon we will be back at school. It’s with both happiness and sadness. I look forward to seeing my friends and starting practice again very much, but it also means I’m officially halfway through the exchange year. With school starting there are new things to try and experience. For example, I’m starting a new sport — track and field. It’s similar to cross-country, which I did from August till November.
Being here for half a year now, I can easily tell the difference between my two schools. The hardest or most different part for me is to have the same schedule every day here. Honestly, I prefer to have different classes every day, as I did in my home country. However, I am attracted to the Friday football games. Football is one of my favorite sports now. Before I came, I knew nothing about it. Now I am addicted to it, especially to watching it with my host parents. I have also been so lucky to go to two college football games.
Before I left school in December, I had a couple of tests called the midterm tests. They all went pretty smoothly, mostly because I didn’t have too many hard classes. My favorite course was English, and it was also my hardest one. Personally I really liked English classes, where I could write essays, develop writing skills and improve spoken English.
Only four days of the winter break are left. Part of me wants to be on a break forever, but I also wish to get started again, starting a new sport and seeing my friends and classmates.
24. Why does the author feel sad before school starts again?
A. Her homework is not finished.
B. The exchange year will end soon.
C. Her school life will get harder.
D. The new sport no longer attracts her.
25. How does the school in the author’s home country differ from the one she is in now?
A. The courses are richer.
B. The teachers are kinder.
C. The meals are healthier.
D. The holidays are longer.
26. What does the author enjoy doing most with the host family?
A. Having a talk in English.
B. Playing video games.
C. Watching football matches.
D. Visiting her relatives.
27. What does underlined word “They” in the third paragraph refer to?
A. Classes. B. Tests. C. Games. D. Students.
C
We all know that exercise is good for our body. It helps us build a strong heart and keep a healthy weight. But did you know that exercise is also great for your brain? Recent studies show that physical activity can actually change the brain in some amazing ways, making us think better and feel happier.
The first change is about the brain’s ability to learn and remember. When we exercise, our heart sends more blood to the brain, carrying oxygen and important food. This helps the brain cells grow and become stronger. Scientists have found that a part of the brain called the hippocampus(海马体), which is very important for memory, gets larger in people who exercise often. This means these people may find it easier to learn new things and get higher scores on tests.
Besides a better memory, exercise is also a powerful way to improve our mood. During and after physical activity, the brain produces more “feel-good” chemicals. These natural brain chemicals help to reduce feelings of worry and stress. You don’t need to run a long way to get the result. Even a short walk or some simple sports can make you feel more relaxed and happy.
So, how can you add more exercise to your life? You don’t have to be an athlete. The key is to find an activity you enjoy. It could be walking or riding a bike to school, joining a dance club, or just playing ball games with friends in the park. Try to be active for at least 30 minutes most days.
In short, exercise is not just about building a healthy body. It is also one of the most effective ways to build a healthier, happier, and smarter brain. Next time you need a break from study, perhaps going out for some exercise is the best choice.
28. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Exercise is the best way to build a strong body.
B. Exercise has great effects on the brain as it does on the body.
C. Students should spend more time playing sports.
D. The hippocampus is the most important part of the brain.
29. According to Paragraph 2, how does exercise help us learn better?
A. By making us feel happier and more relaxed.
B. By helping brain cells grow stronger in the hippocampus.
C. By allowing the heart to send less blood to the brain.
D. By making us want to learn new things.
30. How does exercise help to improve our mood?
A. By bringing more blood and oxygen to the brain during physical activity.
B. By helping our brain learn new things and remember information better.
C. By making the hippocampus, an important part for memory, become larger.
D. By producing natural brain chemicals that reduce feelings of worry and stress.
31. What does the author suggest for adding exercise to our life?
A. We must become excellent athletes.
B. We should run a long way every day.
C. We need to find an activity we enjoy.
D. We have to join a school sports team.
D
A hundred years ago, Emily Post made good manners popular. Her bestselling book, Etiquette(1922), presented the “basics of good behaviour” as modern and attractive, not old-fashioned. She offered practical advice.
Today, people are once again showing interest in politeness. Many online influencers offer lessons on table manners and digital etiquette. Videos with #Etiquette on TikTok have been viewed over 5 billion times. These influencers give tips on how to start meetings and how to leave group chats without being rude. Even traditional schools are updating their courses to fit today’s world. Interestingly, this growing interest comes at a time when most people think manners are worsening. In fact, 90% of parents think young people aged 6 to 18 lack respect.
However, what is regarded as politeness changes over time. Post once criticised(批评) those who called young people rude simply for not following older rules. Louise Mullaney, a language expert, explores this idea in her new book Polite. She points out that people always view language changes as a sign of falling standards, but she argues that such changes are a “natural and unavoidable part of language development”. For example, the old phrase “if it please you” from Shakespeare’s time was shortened to “please” by Post’s era, and now young people type “pls” on their phones often.
Now AI will change politeness once more. McKinsey, a consultancy, believes soft skills will become even more important in an age when AI can do much of the heavy analytical work. Good manners may become more appreciated. On the other hand, AI could also make people ruder — for example, children would shout orders at virtual assistants. These two opposite effects raise concerns about the future of human interaction(交流) .
Research shows that being polite to AI actually helps, while rude questions can cause chatbots to give wrong answers or miss important information. AI mirrors human receptiveness (接受度) to politeness, because it is trained on large amounts of data created by people. The research stresses the importance of treating AI with respect. So whether online or in real life, it always pays to be polite.

阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Good study habits are essential for academic success. However, many students struggle to develop effective study routines, often falling into counterproductive patterns. 36
One of the most common mistakes is passive rereading. Many students believe that simply reading their notes or textbooks multiple times will help them remember information. However, research shows that this approach is one of the least effective study methods. 37 Instead, active recall — where students test themselves on the material without looking at it — has been proven to significantly improve retention.
Another crucial habit is managing your study environment. Your surroundings have a direct impact on concentration and productivity. 38 This means finding a quiet, well-lit space free from distractions like phones, social media, and background television. Some students find that a change of scenery — such as moving from a bedroom desk to a library — can refresh their focus.
Planning and scheduling also make a tremendous difference. Successful students plan their study sessions in advance rather than waiting until the night before an exam. 39 Breaking large tasks into smaller, manageable chunks makes them less overwhelming and helps maintain motivation throughout longer study periods.
Finally, take care of your physical health. 40 Research consistently shows that sleep deprivation reduces memory consolidation and cognitive performance. Eating balanced meals and staying hydrated also contribute to mental clarity. Students who neglect these basic needs often find that their study efforts yield disappointing results.
A. Instead, they should create a timeline that spreads revision over several days or weeks.
B. If you can’t focus in your current location, try moving to a different quiet space.
C. It doesn’t matter where you study as long as you do it for several hours every day.
D. By recognizing and adjusting these habits, students can make their study time much more effective.
E. Reading the same information repeatedly gives the brain the illusion of mastery without real understanding.
F. A quiet environment and comfortable temperature are essential for effective learning.
G. Lack of sleep, poor nutrition, and lack of exercise can seriously harm memory and focus.

Li Hua
第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Li Hua had always been a top student in his county middle school — until he entered senior high. The first monthly English test of his freshman year came back with a glaring red “58” scrawled across the top. The whispers around him felt like sharp laughter. His English teacher gently suggested he “adjust his learning strategies”, while his deskmate casually slid over an answer sheet filled with corrected multiple-choice answers and whispered, “Just copy mine next time. No one will notice.”
That weekend, Li Hua locked himself in his room and spread out every English notebook he had kept since junior high. To his horror, he realized he still confused the present simple tense with the present continuous, let alone understood the complex long sentences in his reading passages. Fury and shame boiled over — he hurled the notebooks onto the floor. But half an hour later, he picked them up, opened the first page, and wrote in red ink: “Starting today, two extra hours every day. No excuses.”
What followed was a silent war. At 6 a.m., his voice echoed in the dormitory hallway as he recited vocabulary. During lunch breaks, he sat in the corner of the empty classroom, replaying listening clips over and over, his earphones pressing hard against his ears. Under the dim desk lamp late at night, his test papers grew covered in tiny handwritten annotations. The results came slowly: 65 in the second monthly test, 72 in the midterm, 78 in the final. Each improvement drew surprised glances from classmates, but Li Hua knew all too well how far he still was from a real breakthrough.
In his second year, the school announced a mock IELTS test. Without hesitation, Li Hua signed up. When the results were posted, the whole class buzzed with disbelief — he had scored 7.5. His English teacher walked into the classroom, holding the score report, and stopped at his desk. She gently placed a form in front of him: “Li Hua, this is the application for the international exchange program — only three spots are available. But before you fill it out, I’d like to hear your story.”
Li Hua took the form, his fingers trembling slightly. He turned his gaze out the window. The plane trees outside the teaching building, once bare in winter, were now thick with summer leaves — just like his own growth over the past year and a half.
Paragraph 1: Taking a deep breath, Li Hua began to tell his teacher what he had been through over the past eighteen months.

Paragraph 2: When the teacher finally looked up from the application form, there was a thoughtful smile on her face.

Dear Jack,
I remember the moment — it truly hit me that your autism(自闭症) lasted forever.

32. What can we learn about Emily Post’s book Etiquette (1922) from Paragraph 1?
A. It saw manners as old-fashioned. B. It gave practical etiquette tips.
C. It focused on unpopular old rules. D. It lacked modern behaviour guides.
33. Which proves people care about manners again according to Paragraph 2?
A. Etiquette videos gain huge views. B. Parents praise kids’ good manners.
C. Traditional schools add new subjects. D. Etiquette is a necessity for influencers.
34. What is Mullaney’s probable attitude towards language changes like “pls”?
A. Reserved. B. Worried. C. Uncertain. D. Approving.
35. What should we do when we interact with AI?
A. Require it to be totally honest. B. Give it orders in a loud voice.
C. Show it politeness and respect. D. Help it with analytical work.

Li Hua
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2: When the teacher finally looked up from the application form, there was a thoughtful smile on her face.

第二部分 阅读理解(共两节, 满分50分)

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该选项涂黑。
A
Dear Jack,
I remember the moment — it truly hit me that your autism(自闭症) lasted forever.

22. How does the author sound in the text?

C. Sports. D. Relationship.
【答案】21. C 22. B 23. D

A. Classes. B. Tests. C. Games. D. Students.
【答案】24. B 25. A 26. C 27. B

【答案】28. B 29. B 30. D 31. C

32. 细节理解题。根据第一段“Her bestselling book, Etiquette(1922), presented the “basics of good behaviour” as modern and attractive, not old-fashioned. She offered practical advice. (她的畅销书《礼仪》(1922 年版)将“良好举止的基本准则”诠释得新潮吸引人,而非陈旧过时,书中给出了实用可行的建议)”可知,这本书提供了实用的礼仪相关建议。
33. 细节理解题。根据第二段“Videos with # Etiquette on TikTok have been viewed over 5 billion times. (TikTok带有#礼仪话题标签的视频播放量超50亿次)”可知,带礼仪话题的视频播放量极高,这能证明人们重新在意礼仪。

(例如莎士比亚时代的古语if it please you,到波斯特的年代简化成了please,如今年轻人常在手机上简写为pls)”可知,Mullaney认为语言简化演变是正常现象,对此持赞同认可的态度。
35. 细节理解题。根据最后一段“Research shows that being polite to AI actually helps (研究表明,对人工智能保持礼貌是有益的)”与“The research stresses the importance of treating AI with respect. (该研究强调了以尊重的态度对待人工智能的重要性)”可知,我们和人工智能互动时应当礼貌、尊重地对待它。
第二节(共5小题, 每小题2. 5分, 共12. 5分)
【答案】36. D 37. E 38. F 39. A 40. G

However, many students struggle to develop effective study routines, often falling into counterproductive patterns.(良好的学习习惯对学业成功至关重要。 D选项“By recognizing and adjusting these habits, students can make their study time much more effective. (通过认识到并调整这些习惯,学生可以使他们的学习时间有效得多。)”中的 these habits 指代前文提到的各类低效、适得其反的学习模式,顺畅开启下文论述,符合语境。

However, research shows that this approach is one of the least effective study methods.(许多学生相信仅仅多次阅读笔记或者课本将会帮助他们记住信息。然而,研究表明这种方法是有效性最低的学习方法之一。)”以及空后的“Instead, active recall — where students test themselves on the material without looking at it — has been proven to significantly improve retention.(与之相反,主动回忆,即不看资料自测,被证实能显著提升知识留存率。)”可知,空格处需要进一步阐释被动反复阅读为什么效率低下。E选项“Reading the same information repeatedly gives the brain the illusion of mastery without real understanding.

39. 根据空前的“Successful students plan their study sessions in advance rather than waiting until the night before an exam.(成功的学生会提前规划学习时段,而不是等到考试前一晚。)以及空后的“Breaking large tasks into smaller, manageable chunks makes them less overwhelming and helps maintain motivation throughout longer study periods.(把大任务拆分成容易完成的小任务,任务压力会更小,也有利于长期保持学习动力。)”可知,前文否定考前临时复习,空格介绍正确的规划方式,再引出拆分任务的技巧。A选项“Instead, they should create a timeline that spreads revision over several days or weeks. (相反,他们应当制定时间表,把复习分散到数天或数周进行。)”借助Instead转折,给出替代临时突击的方案,自然衔接后文拆分任务的学习策略,符合语境。
40. 根据本段主题句“Finally, take care of your physical health.(最后,照顾好自己的身体健康。)”以及空后的“Research consistently shows that sleep deprivation reduces memory consolidation and cognitive performance.(多项研究表明睡眠不足会降低记忆巩固能力与认知水平。)”可知,后文围绕睡眠、饮食展开说明,空格需要总起全段,概括身体健康要素对学习的影响。G选项“Lack of sleep, poor nutrition, and lack of exercise can seriously harm memory and focus. (睡眠不足、营养不良、缺乏锻炼会严重损害记忆力与专注力。)”总括影响学习的几项健康问题,统领下文相关阐述,符合语境。

Dear Jack.
I remember the moment-it truly hit me that your autism()lasted forever.I had already mentally
planned our trips up north with the boys.I was going to spend endless hours playing baseball with you-like
Grandpa did with me
When we said goodbye to kindergarten I knew it was real.I spent some time being sad.Now you are 8.You
still have no words. We have never had one of those father-son moments I pictured when you were a baby. But I'm
learning that's OK.I still have unbelievable things to offer as your dad, even if they weren't the things I originally
expected.
You have taught me to be patient. You have taught me that it's OK to be different and to be sad when life
doesn't go as planned. You have taught me that it is OK to talk about those feelings and fight for what is right.Stand
up and say this is wrong, and encourage others to stand up for you and say the same.
My job on this earth is to create a world for you and other kids like you.Be the voice you don't have, and
build the kind of community which I want to see you grow up in.I used to shy a way from contacting people with
disabilities or just not consider them. Before you were born,I was so caught up in my own world that I probably
wouldn't have even noticed. Now,I see things differently.I notice. You did that for me.And hope my example will
do that for others.
Your mom and I have spent 8 years trying to find your voice. And honestly,we don't know if we ever will.I
promise you I will spend my life keeping you safe and making this world better for you.
21.What can be learned about the author?
A.He is at a loss what to do to help Jack.B.He is to blame for Jack's present condition.
C.He has changed his attitude to the disabled.D.He hasn't accepted the reality up to now.

We all know that exercise is good for our body.It helps us build a strong heart and keep a healthy weight. But
O
did you know that exercise is also great for your brain?Recent studies show that physical activity can actually
change the brain in some amazing ways, making us think better and feel happier.
:
:
:
The first change is about the brain's ability to learn and remember. When we exercise, our heart sends more
·:
blood to the brain, carrying oxygen and important food. This helps the brain cells grow and become stronger.
Scientists have found that a part of the brain called the hippocampus(),which is very important for memory,
:
gets larger in people who exercise often. This means these people may find it easier to learn new things and get
higher scores on tests.
Besides a better memory, exercise is also a powerful way to improve our mood.During and after physical
activity, the brain produces more"feel-good"chemicals.These natural brain chemicals help to reduce feelings of
wory and stress. You don't need to run a long way to get the result.Even a short walk or some simple sports can
make you feel more relaxed and happy.
:
·:
So,how can you add more exercise to your life? You don't have to be an athlete. The key is to find an activity
you enjoy. It could be walking or riding a bike to school, joining a dance club,or just playing ball games with friends
in the park.Try to be active for at least 30 minutes most days.
In short, exercise is not just about building a healthy body.It is also one of the most effective ways to build a
:
healthier, happier, and smarter brain.Next time you need a break from study, perhaps going out for some exercise is
the best choice.
28.What is the main idea of the passage?
O
A.Exercise is the best way to build a strong body.
:
B.Exercise has great effects on the brain as it does on the body
:
C.Students should spend more time playing sports
D.The hippocampus is the most important part of the brain
29.According to Paragraph 2,how does exercise help us learn better?
A.By making us feel happier and more relaxed.
B.By helping brain cells grow stronger in the hippocampus.
:
C.By allowing the heart to send less blood to the brain.
D.By making us want to learn new things.
O
30.How does exercise help to improve our mood?
A.By bringing more blood and oxygen to the brain during physical activity.
B.By helping our brain learn new things and remember information better.
C.By making the hippocampus,an important part for memory, become larger.
D.By producing natural brain chemicals that reduce feelings of worry and stress.
£
31.What does the author suggest for adding exercise to our life?
A.We must become excellent athletes.
B.We should run a long way every day.
C.We need to find an activity we enjoy.
D.We have to join a school sports team

A hundred years ago,Emily Post made good manners popular. Her bestselling book,Etiquette(1922),
presented thebasics of good behaviour"as modern and attractive, not old-fashioned.She offered practical advice.
Today, people are once again showing interest in politeness. Many online influencers offer lessons on table
manners and digital etiquette.Videos with #Etiquette on TikTok have been viewed over 5 billion times. These
influencers give tips on how to start meetings and how to leave group chats without being rude.Even traditional
schools are updating their courses to fit today's world.Interestingly, this growing interest comes at a time when most
people think manners are worsening. In fact,90%of parents think young people aged 6 to 18 lack respect.
However, what is regarded as politeness changes over time.Post once criticised()those who called
young people rude simply for not following older rules.Louise Mullaney,a language expert, explores this idea in her
new book Polite. She points out that people always view language changes as a sign of falling standards, but she
argues that such changes are a"natural and unavoidable part of language development".For example, the old phrase
"if it please you"from Shakespeare's time was shortened to"please"by Post's era,and now young people type"pls"
on their phones often.
Now AI will change politeness once more.McKinsey,a consultancy, believes soft skills will become even
more important in an age when AI can do much of the heavy analytical work.Good manners may become more
appreciated. On the other hand,AI could also make people ruder-for example, children would shout orders at
virtual assistants. These two opposite effects raise concerns about the future of human interaction).
Research shows that being polite to AI actually helps, while rude questions can cause chatbots to give wrong
answers or miss important information.AI mirrors human receptiveness (to politeness, because it is trained
on large amounts of data created by people. The research stresses the importance of treating AI with respect. So
whether online or in real life,it always pays to be polite.
32.What can we learn about Emily Post's book Etiquette (1922)from Paragraph 1?
A.It saw manners as old-fashioned.
B.It gave practical etiquette tips.
C.It focused on unpopular old rules.
D.It lacked modern behaviour guides.
33.Which proves people care about manners again according to Paragraph 2?
A.Etiquette videos gain huge views.
B.Parents praise kids'good manners.
C.Traditional schools add new subjects.
D.Etiquette is a necessity for influencers.
34.What is Mullaney's probable attitude towards language changes like"pls"?
A.Reserved.B.Worried.
C.Uncertain.
D.Approving.
35.What should we do when we interact with AI?
A.Require it to be totally honest.
B.Give it orders in a loud voice
C.Show it politeness and respect.
D.Help it with analytical work.

Good study habits are essential for academic success. However, many students struggle to develop effective

One of the most common mistakes is passive rereading. Many students believe that simply reading their notes
or textbooks multiple times will help them remember information. However, research shows that this approach is
one of the least effective study methods.37 Instead, active recall-where students test themselves on the
material without looking at it-has been proven to significantly improve retention.
Another crucial habit is managing your study environment.Your surroundings have a direct impact on
concentration and productivity.38 This means finding a quiet,well-lit space free from distractions like
phones, social media, and background television. Some students find that a change of scenery-such as moving
from a bedroom desk to a library-can refresh their focus.
Planning and scheduling also make a tremendous difference.Successful students plan their study sessions in
advance rather than waiting until the night before an exam.39 Breaking large tasks into smaller,
manageable chunks makes them less overwhelming and helps maintain motivation throughout longer study periods.
Finally, take care of your physical health.40 Research consistently shows that sleep deprivation
reduces memory consolidation and cognitive performance.Eating balanced meals and staying hydrated also
contribute to mental clarity.Students who neglect these basic needs often find that their study efforts yield
disappointing results.
A.Instead, they should create a timeline that spreads revision over several days or weeks.
B.Ifyou can't focus in your current location, try moving to a different quiet space.
C.It doesn't matter where you study as long as you do it for several hours every day.
D.By recognizing and adjusting these habits, students can make their study time much more effective.
E.Reading the same information repeatedly gives the brain the illusion of mastery without real understanding.
F.A quiet environment and comfortable temperature are essential for effective learning
G.Lack of sleep, poor nutrition, and lack of exercise can seriously harm memory and focus

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Li Hua had always been a top student in his county middle school-until he entered senior high. The first
monthly English test of his freshman year came back with a glaring red"58 scrawled across the top.The whispers
around him felt like sharp laughter. His English teacher gently suggested he"adjust his learning strategies",while his
deskmate casually slid over an answer sheet filled with corrected multiple-choice answers and whispered,"Just copy
mine next time.No one will notice."
That weekend,Li Hua locked himself in his room and spread out every English notebook he had kept since
junior high.To his horror,he realized he still confused the present simple tense with the present continuous, let alone
understood the complex long sentences in his reading passages.Fury and shame boiled over-he hurled the
notebooks onto the floor. But half an hour later,he picked them up,opened the first page, and wrote in red ink:
"Starting today, two extra hours every day.No excuses."
What followed was a silent war.At 6 a.m.,his voice echoed in the dormitory hallway as he recited vocabulary.
During lunch breaks,he sat in the corner of the empty classroom, replaying listening clips over and over, his
earphones pressing hard against his ears.Under the dim desk lamp late at night, his test papers grew covered in tiny
handwritten annotations. The results came slowly:65 in the second monthly test,72 in the midterm,78 in the final.
Each improvement drew surprised glances from classmates, but Li Hua knew all too well how far he still was from a
real breakthrough.
In his second year, the school announced a mock IELTS test.Without hesitation,Li Hua signed up.When the
results were posted, the whole class buzzed with disbelief-he had scored 7.5.His English teacher walked into the
classroom, holding the score report, and stopped at his desk. She gently placed a form in front of him:"Li Hua,this
is the application for the international exchange program-only three spots are available. But before you fill it out,
I'd like to hear your story."
Li Hua took the form, his fingers trembling slightly. He turned his gaze out the window. The plane trees
outside the teaching building, once bare in winter, were now thick with summer leaves-just like his own growth
over the past year and a half.
Paragraph 1:Taking a deep breath,Li Hua began to tell his teacher what he had been through over the past
eighteen months.
Paragraph 2:When the teacher finally looked up from the application form, there was a thoughtful smile on
her face.
