Passage 1(人与自我·做人与做事·理财意识)
Money has changed a lot recently. In the past, we used paper bills and coins. Now, we mostly see numbers on a screen. This makes life easier, but it also creates new problems.
Let’s look at the United Kingdom. Almost 60% of kids aged 8 to 17 spend money online every month. Nearly half of them (46%) have seen online scams (骗局), though only 9% actually lost money. Many kids also regret what they buy. When we use cash(现金), we feel the "pain" of paying. But with digital payments, it’s too easy to just tap and pay. For kids who are still learning self-control, this can lead to trouble.
Are schools teaching kids about these dangers? A 2025 survey says no. Over half of British students finish school without learning how to manage money. Most classes still talk about old topics, like how to save in a bank. They don’t teach about modern problems like online scams or spending in video games. Also, financial (金融的) lessons usually stop at age 16. But that’s when many teens start spending real money.
Young people know this is a problem. About 84% of UK kids think money lessons are as important as math or science. England plans to make financial education compulsory (强迫的) in primary schools by 2028, which is a good start. But today’s teenagers can’t wait that long.
Learning about money doesn’t only happen in school. Families can talk about it at home. Kids also learn from influencers on short videos. Even using money in video games can teach useful lessons.
Do you want to learn how to manage money wisely? You can start by talking with your classmates about how to be smart with your money.
1.What forms did money take in the past?
2.Why do many kids regret what they buy?
3.When do many teens start spending real money?
4. Where can kids learn about money? (写出一个答案即可)
5.What good ways can teenagers use to manage their pocket money? Give one example and explain.
Passage 2(人与社会·社会服务·跨文化沟通)
What is the most famous Chinese food in America? Most people would say General Tso’s chicken (左宗棠鸡). It is fried chicken with a sweet, red sauce. But if you ask for it in China, people might not know what you are talking about. That is because this "Chinese" dish was actually made for American tastes.
The story started in 1953. A famous chef named Peng Chang-kuei (彭长贵) was cooking a big dinner for an important American admiral (海军将领). After cooking for three days, he ran out of ideas. So, he tried something new. He fried some chicken and put a spicy and salty sauce on it. When the admiral asked for its name, Peng named the dish after General Tso, a famous hero from his hometown, Hunan.
But the original dish was different from the one we eat today. When Peng moved to New York in the 1970s, he was shocked to find other chefs stealing his idea. These copycats (盲目模仿者) realized that Americans had a sweet tooth. To win over American customers, they added lots of sugar and made the sauce thick and sticky. Soon, Americans went wild for this sweet “Chinese” dish. Chef Peng simply accepted it, knowing how hard it was for immigrants (移民) to start a business in a new country.
So, is General Tso’s chicken really Chinese? The answer is in its journey. It has a Chinese name, but it was changed to please Americans. Today, it is a bridge between two cultures. It might not be traditional, but it is a delicious part of history.

Passage 3(人与社会·社会与文化·文化习俗)
In East China, spring does not begin with a date on the calendar. It begins with a sound: the sound of bamboo shoots growing. For people in Shanghai, spring has a special flavor found in a warm bowl of soup called yanduxian(腌笃鲜).
The name of the soup tells you what is inside. "Yan" is salted pork, and "xian" is fresh pork. The most important part is "du." In the local language, this word sounds like the noise of the pot lid bouncing (锅盖弹跳) while the soup boils.
The main ingredient is the spring bamboo shoot. These shoots are white, crisp(脆的), and sweet. However, they are only available for a short time in early spring. There is a rule in Chinese cooking: "Eat food only when it is in season." This is why people wait all winter for this fresh taste.
Making this soup takes time. The salted pork and fresh pork must cook together slowly for over an hour. The soup gradually turns into a rich, milky white color. Because it is a slow process, you need to be patient.
Shanghai is a very busy city, but you cannot rush this soup. You must wait for the bamboo to grow and the pot to boil. It teaches us that the best things in life take time. When you finally taste that hot, delicious soup, you will know that spring has truly arrived.
1.When can people eat yanduxian?
2. What is "du"?
3. How are the spring bamboo shoots?
4. What are the characteristics of yanduxian? (写出一个答案即可)

Passage 4(人与自我·生活与学习·自我提升)
What would you do if you loved something, but it was too hard to make it a career?
This was the problem for Zhang Xue in 2006. He was 19 years old and worked as a motorcycle mechanic (摩托车机械师) in Hunan. He loved fixing and performing tricks on motorcycles. But he was poor and couldn't afford to improve his skills. He asked a TV station for help, but when he was on TV, he did not do well. The reporter said no to his dream.
However, Zhang did not give up. He rode his old, rusty (生锈的) motorcycle over 100 kilometers in the rain to find the TV crew (电视摄制组). He said, “If you never take action when you’re young, you’ll regret it when you’re old. But if you try, even failure brings no regret.”
Now 39, Zhang has no reason to regret his choice. Instead, he can look back on that day in 2006 with pride. On March 28, 2026, a French racer named Valentin Debise won a big race in Portugal (葡萄牙). He was riding a motorcycle from a brand called ZXMoto. This brand was started by Zhang Xue! It was the first time a Chinese motorcycle brand won this world championship. "I am speechless(一时语塞的)," Zhang wrote online.
After 2006, Zhang kept working hard. He became a racer, a mechanic, and then an engineer. In 2017, he started his first company. Then in 2024, he started ZXMoto.
"I never thought about doing anything else," Zhang said. "I simply love motorcycles."
Would you follow Zhang’s example and go all out for what you love?

Passage 5(人与自然·自然生态·与自然和谐相生)
Spring is a very busy and stressful time for students. Grade 9 and 12 students are studying hard for their big exams, the zhongkao and gaokao. But outside the classroom window, it is also the busiest time for birds.
While students read textbooks, their feathered (有羽毛的) neighbors are singing and dancing. They are trying to find a boyfriend or girlfriend. For centuries, poets have loved the sound of birds. However, not every student agrees.
A student in a Shenzhen high school recently complained about the Asian koel (噪鹃) birds on campus. Their loud call—"Ko-EL!"—was disturbing his study. He asked the principal (校长) to drive the birds away.
I understand why he was annoyed. I live near several parks. Every spring, many birds sing loudly. Sometimes they wake me up at 4 a.m.! But should we remove (清除) these birds just because they trouble us?
The principal said no. We call our schools and cities "home," but they do not belong only to humans. They have the right to live their lives. We must learn to "live with it."
Actually, a little "disturbance (干扰)" can be helpful. I learned English by listening to perfect CDs. But the first time I talked to a foreigner in a noisy restaurant, I couldn't understand him well. My friend laughed and said, "You can't always learn with perfect recordings!"
As I write this, a small dove (鸽) is cooing and bowing to a female dove. When I looked at them, they flew away. Maybe they were just too shy to let me watch their love story. It's really fun to watch these little birds around us.
1.What are birds singing and dancing to do?
2.Why did the student ask the principal to drive the birds away?
3.Why did the principal say no?
4. What did the writer want to express through his experience? (写出一个答案即可)
5.What question do you want to ask yourself when you hear birds singing? (Your question should be different from the underlined one in the text.)
Passage 6(人与社会·社会服务·社会的变迁)
Backpacks used to be only for hikers and students. Adults who cared about fashion never carried them. But now, things have changed. Backpacks have become very popular. In America, backpack sales are breaking records.
Taylor Welden, a fashion designer, says, "Twenty years ago, you could never wear a backpack to work." But today, that is normal. Andy Fallshaw, a bag expert, compares backpacks to sneakers(旅游鞋). In the past, only kids and athletes wore sneakers. Now, everyone wears them, even at fashion shows. Because of this trend, groups of "bag fans" have appeared on social media.
Why are backpacks so popular now? First, workplaces are more casual (随便的). People do not need to dress so formally. Second, backpacks look much better than before. Companies use cool materials like special cloth and leather. Also, airline luggage (航空行李) is getting expensive. It is cheaper to carry a bag onto the plane. Carrying weight on two shoulders is easier than carrying it on one. Finally, more people live far from the city. They need a good bag for the long trip.
New bag companies are growing fast. They are using strong, new materials. For example, a brand called Packolab sells backpacks for about $400. They are so popular that the company holds a lottery (抽彩) to see who can buy one first! Big fashion brands are joining in, too. In 2023, Dior worked with a bag designer to make a special backpack. It cost $4,000! Backpacks are not just for school anymore.
1.Who were backpacks used by in the past?
2.What does “groups of ‘bag fans’ have appeared on social media” prove?
3.Why do backpacks look much better than before?
4. Why are backpacks so popular now?? (写出两个答案即可)

Passage 7(人与自然·自然生态·与自然和谐相生)
In 1995, a parrot named Puck from California (加利福尼亚州) set a world record. He learned 1,728 human words! This smart bird could even make up his own phrases. So, why can some birds "talk"?
First, most birds "talk" to each other using their own bird language. But some birds, like parrots, are special. They can learn the sounds of other animals, including humans. A parrot named Gizmo can even talk non-stop for 30 minutes!
This skill is connected to their need for friends. In the wild, parrots stay with one partner. If they are lonely, they treat their human owners as friends. They copy human words to feel like part of the family "flock(群体)."
These birds also have special bodies. They have a unique brain system that helps them learn sounds. They also have a special voice box in their chest called a syrinx (鸣管). It works like a human's voice box, allowing them to copy many noises.
But do they understand what they say? Scientists think they do. Some birds can connect words to actions. They can even sort objects by color and shape. However, they are mostly copying sounds, not making their own sentences. Still, some wild birds use a kind of grammar to warn each other about danger.
Does talking mean a bird is smart? Talking birds can solve difficult puzzles. But intelligence (智力) comes in many forms. Some birds are smart because they are great at using tools. Next time you see a bird, take time to watch it. Understanding their behavior is a way of communicating with them.
1.How many human words did Puck learn?
2. What animals can learn the sounds of other animals?
3. What is the skill of birds' talking connected to?
4. How do scientists understand what birds say? (写出一个答案即可)
5.What can you learn from the skill of birds' talking? (Your answer should be different from the ones in the text.)
Passage 8(人与社会·人际沟通·社区生活)
Recently, a fun trend (风尚) has become very popular on RedNote (小红书) among Chinese people in London. It all started with a student. He took an English textbook to Big Ben(大本钟). Why? Because the picture on the textbook cover was Big Ben itself!
The rule is simple: take a photo of the book with the real building, and then hide the book for someone else to find. This small action has grown very big. Many people now bring their textbooks to Big Ben. They hide them near bridges, railings(栏杆), and phone booths (电话亭) along the river. Finding the book is a surprise, and nobody knows where it will turn up next.
The trend is not just about the book; it is about sharing kindness. The student who started this left a pen and a plastic bag with the book. She asked people to write messages for the next reader. Over time, the pages were filled with warm wishes. The most common wish was "World Peace." Others wrote, "To our fellow (同类的) Chinese, I hope you are well." When there was no room left, people used sticky notes. When the pen dried out, a stranger kindly left a new one.
Through these books, strangers are now connected. Kindness travels from one person to another. Soon, this trend spread to other cities. People found these special textbooks in Rome and Paris, too.
Sometimes the world can feel a bit lonely. But these small acts of kindness remind us that we are all connected. When we pass on a little bit of love, it can travel very far—from one person to the next, all around the world.
1.What is the fun trend about?

3.What’s the true meaning behind this fun trend?
4. Why do many strangers join the fun trend? (写出一个答案即可)

Passage 9(人与社会·文学与艺术·优秀的艺术家及艺术成就)
Writing for children is often seen as easier than writing for adults. But the best children’s authors and illustrators(插图画家) know that’s not true. Michael Rosen and Cai Gao are winners of the 2026 Hans Christian Andersen Awards (国际安徒生奖). They have spent their lives creating books for young readers. Their work shows that children’s literature can be just as deep and meaningful as any other kind of literature.
Rosen’s writing not only makes children laugh but also teaches them about life. Chocolate Cake《巧克力蛋糕》, for example, tells the funny story of a boy who sneaks downstairs (偷偷下楼) at night to eat chocolate cake. It explores everyday life from a child’s point of view. Rosen also writes about the hard parts of life — but with great care. In Michael Rosen’s Sad Book《伤心书》, he speaks openly about the death of his son. He teaches children that being honest about their feelings is brave, not weak.
Like Rosen’s writing, Cai Gao’s illustrations both please the eye and feed the mind. Her picture book The Peach Blossom Spring《桃花源的故事》invites children into a beautiful land painted in warm, gentle colours. The book is based on Tao Yuanming’s famous story. It follows a fisherman who discovers a hidden village far from the troubles of the outside world. But unlike Tao, Cai doesn’t see this place as a dream we cannot reach. Instead, she paints it as something we can build. Through her beautiful pictures, she encourages children to create beauty and peace in their own lives.
Children’s literature may be created for young readers, but its power is anything but small. Rosen and Cai remind us that the greatest truths often come in the simplest form.

2. What story is the book Chocolate Cake tell us?
3. What does Sad Book teach children?
4. What is the reason for the success of Cai Gao’s illustrations? (写出一个答案即可)
5.What good influence can good children’s books bring us? Give one example and explain.
Passage 10(人与社会·社会与文化·对世界和社会进步有突出贡献的人物)
On April 15, 1882, Mark Twain (马克·吐温) was invited to speak to a group called the Saturday Morning Club in Hartford.
When I was told I would speak here, I asked what I should talk about. They said it should be something for young people. I have a few ideas I want to share. Advice is most helpful when you are young.
First, always obey your parents when they are around. If you don't, they will make you do it anyway!
Second, go to bed early and wake up early. People have different ideas about waking up. Some say you should wake up with the sun. Others suggest different things. But I think waking up with a lark (百灵鸟) is best. If you find the right bird, you can even train it to wake you up at 9:30 every morning!
Next, let's talk about lying. You must be very careful. If you lie, you will probably get caught. Once you are caught, people will stop trusting you. One silly lie can cause big problems for a long time. Some people say you should never lie. I don't agree completely. But if you must lie, please do it carefully and with control.
Also, there are many books in the world. Young people should choose good books to read. Books are great tools to help you improve yourself. They are also good guides for your future. So, be smart when you pick a book.
Build your character on these rules. When you grow up, you might be surprised to see that your character looks just like everyone else's!

2. Why do young people need to obey their parents?
3.How did Mark Twain deal with telling lies?
4. Why did Mark Twain think young people should read books? (写出一个答案即可)
5.Which piece of Mark Twain’s advice do you like best? Why?
Passage 11(人与社会·社会服务·对未来的畅想)
By 2050, the world’s population will reach 9.8 billion. About 70% of these people—around 6.7 billion—will live in cities. Imagine a future city where technology helps life and people live in peace with nature. That is how experts plan to build it!
The City Layout (布局)
The future city is not just one huge city. Instead, it is made of many small city centers. Each center has enough houses and stores for daily life. Outside these centers are farmlands and nature parks. High-speed trains connect everything. This makes it easy for people to travel and for goods to move fast.
The City Center
Every city center works like a "sponge (海绵)." When it rains, the buildings and gardens soak up (吸收) the water. This water is saved, cleaned, and reused for drinking, cleaning, and watering plants. Clean energy like solar and wind power is used everywhere. The goal is to use nature for energy without hurting the environment.
The Buildings
Buildings are covered with solar panels(太阳能板), and wind turbines(风力涡轮机) are on the roofs. This clean energy powers the buildings and the green spaces inside. People of all ages are welcome to live in these homes. Shared spaces like gardens, kitchens, and libraries bring people together. Nothing is wasted because people reuse and recycle old things.
The Neighborhood
In the neighborhoods, you can find everything you need within a 10-minute walk. If you need to go farther, there is free public transport. Electric bikes and trains are so safe and easy to use that buying a car is a waste of money.
1.How many people will live in cities by 2050?
2.How is the future city layout?
3.What energy doesn’t hurt the environment?
4. How are the future buildings?
