Dear Tom,
I’m happy to hear that you are going to start your high-school life. High school is really exciting but challenging. You will meet new people and take more responsibilities, which brings both chances and pressure.
Here are some suggestions for you. First, plan your time wisely. With more homework, you’d better use a planner to keep track of your tasks. Second, take part in various school activities to make friends with common interests. Besides, don’t forget to be yourself when making friends.
Hope these tips will be helpful to you. Wish you a great high-school experience.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
One possible version:
The following day, I anxiously waited for the results. Would my effort pay off? Would I achieve my goal of becoming one of the student leaders? When the principal eventually announced that I had been elected with the second-highest number of votes, I couldn’t help but jump up with excitement. With a bright smile, I walked up to the stage to loud cheers from my fellow students. Their joy showed me that my victory was not just mine, but theirs as well.
Later, I realized that I had achieved far more than what I had expected. In addition to being appointed as one of the student leaders, I had made numerous friends along the way who now saw me as someone always willing to lend a helping hand. While pursuing my dream, I had become a source of inspiration and hope for other students. By being myself, I had shown them that success would be achievable for anyone if they stuck to their goals, worked hard and believed in themselves.

After graduating from high school, John got a job delivering pizzas. But soon he realized that it wasn’t the job he really wanted. So he took a night class at a local tech school to see if welding (焊接) was a skill that “was going to stick”.
It did. John wanted to learn everything about welding and decided he’d make welding his career. But one night class wouldn’t be enough. John went to Hobart Welding School for real, technical training. Besides welding courses, John also took classes in subjects like metallurgy — the study of metal — and reading blueprints. He became more certain that he would stick to the job.
For the past 18 years, John has been a welder. He now works for the EEW Group. The company is in the process of opening a factory that will produce monopiles for offshore wind turbines (涡轮机). Wind turbines produce eco-friendly electricity.
A typical day for John includes a number of tasks and skills. One minute, he’s driving a forklift. The next, he’s reading blueprints, or cutting materials. “There are a lot to deal with,” he told Time for Kids. “It’s not just welding.”
John’s favorite part of being a welder is “making an honest living”. He also takes pride in helping the environment. “I’m glad to stick to what I really want to do,” he says. “I am working for a company that is helping the country to go green, and it’s satisfying to be a part of the process.”

The way younger people think about spending money and their lifestyle is changing. A new idea called “reverse consumption” has appeared. This means people are no longer buying expensive things like brand-name bags or clothes. Instead, they care more about getting good value for their money.
Reverse consumption encourages people not to waste. Unlike traditional buying habits, it refuses (拒绝) to keep buying new products and pays more attention to the quality of products. This idea has become popular with younger people and has influenced their buying decisions. This change in spending habits shows that young people care about different things in life now.
Many young people are starting to realize that having lots of material goods doesn’t bring true happiness. They are more interested in personal growth, spiritual (精神的) wealth, and the building of social relationships. Because of this, they pay more attention to their inner needs. Besides focusing on growing as a person, they also start to care about how their actions affect (影响) the environment.
This new way of thinking helps young people notice bigger problems like pollution and climate change. They know that wasteful spending can harm the environment, causing plenty of unnecessary waste and pollution, so they are trying to reduce (减少) their influence on the environment. It is changing what people do and making the world different.
In addition, the idea of reverse consumption is also bringing changes in society. Companies are being pushed to take social and environmental responsibility (责任) more seriously, and to think more about social interests when designing and making things.
28.What is “reverse consumption” in Paragraph 1 mainly about?
A.Buying bags or clothes at lower prices. B.Giving up spending money completely.
C.Saving money to buy more cheap things later. D.Getting good value for money and avoiding waste.
29.From Paragraph 3 we can infer (推断) that young people today ________.
A.believe true happiness comes from inner growth B.think owning more bags brings social respect
C.no longer care about their personal looks D.only notice material goods around them
30.How does reverse consumption change companies?
A.It helps companies to give up social interests.
B.It makes companies produce more expensive products.
C.It encourages companies to make fewer and fewer products.
D.It pushes companies to take social and environmental responsibility.
31.What is the main purpose of this passage?
A.To explain reverse consumption and its influence.
B.To ask readers not to buy more brand-name products.
C.To tell readers that young people should stop spending money.
D.To tell people to only buy products that are good for the environment.
D
Since Glacier National Park’s creation, it has represented the spiritual treasure of Americans with its breathtaking landscapes. But today, climate warming threatens the very emblem of the park, leaving it facing a future in which its name could be a cruel irony
Deep within Glacier National Park, visitors now can see an amazing sight: a peaceful lake of pale blue water lying among towering peaks. Beautiful as it is, the very presence of this lake is not desired by people. Just a few decades ago, the land was entirely frozen. Now the glacier itself is reduced to taking up a small area, sheltered from the sun at the edge of the lake created through its own melting.
The park has already lost 60 percent of its namesake (同名物) glaciers since the 1850s, and scientists predict their complete disappearance by the end of the century. Families from all over the US and abroad flood to these natural wonders to create memories that will last.
Protecting the national park is one of the rare issues that bring political opponents together in the US. With tens of millions of visitors to these sites every year, it is also a matter of economic necessity. The US government recently announced considerable funds to help. This has issued a challenge to the identity of National Park Service, a US agency brought into existence by a 1916 law that called for the preservation of those treasured pristine (处于原始状态的) sites for the enjoyment of future generations.
“But it’s now pretty clear that it’s not achievable in many places,” admits John Gross, an ecologist with the National Park Serviceˈs Climate Change Response Program. “It’s certainly possible that the park could lose the iconic feature for which it has been named.”
The climate crisis has thus brought about a shift in the organizationˈs philosophy: It’s acceptable to change a park’s natural state to stop its further worsening.
32.What does the underlined word “emblem” in paragraph 1 mean?
A.Symbol. B.Location. C.Recovery. D.Construction.
33.Why is the new lake in the park mentioned?
A.To stress the economic value of the park.
B.To serve as evidence of the warming climate.
C.To explain the process of glacier formation.
D.To describe a new popular tourist attraction.
34.What can be learned about the National Park Service?
A.It mainly allows for economic benefits.
B.It shows confidence in restoring the park.
C.It is forced to adjust its protection principle.
D.It is taking measures to limit visitor numbers.
35.Which can be the best title for the text?
A.A New Idea for Park Protection
B.A Park Is Economically on Thin Ice
C.A Political Agreement on Renaming a Park
D.A Park Might Be at Risk of Redefining Itself

Starting high school can be both exciting and challenging. It’s a time of new beginnings, new friends, and new responsibilities. Here are some tips to help you make a smooth transition.
Get organized from day one. High school brings more subjects, more homework, and more deadlines than middle school. 36 Keep a planner or use a digital calendar to track assignments, tests, and important dates. Set aside a specific time each day for homework and review. This simple habit will prevent last-minute panic.
Build positive relationships with your teachers. Unlike middle school, high school teachers often see hundreds of students each day. 37 Don’t be afraid to ask questions in class or seek extra help after school. Showing that you are motivated and engaged can make a big difference.
Get involved in school activities. One of the best ways to feel connected to your new school is to join clubs, sports teams, or volunteer groups. 38 It also helps you develop new skills and interests outside the classroom. Don’t worry if you don’t find your perfect fit right away—try different activities and see what you enjoy.
39 Many students feel pressure to fit in, but the friends who accept you for who you are will be the ones worth keeping. Don’t change yourself just to impress others.
Take care of your health. 40 Eat balanced meals, get enough sleep, and make time for exercise. A healthy body supports a healthy mind, and both are essential for academic success.
A.These activities can help you meet people who share similar interests.
B.Be yourself.
C.Make a good first impression on the first day of school.
D.This means you need to take responsibility for your learning.
E.High school can be stressful, so don’t forget to take care of yourself.

Since the age of seven, I had always dreamed of being one of the student leaders who we looked up to. They took responsibility for us, gave instructions, organized school activities, and proudly wore their badges(徽章) while carrying our school flag and walking on the playground. They represented us and gave speeches on school issues, becoming our role models.
As I grew older, I finally can take part in the school elections. I prepared my election speech and on the day of the speeches, everyone voted. I was hopeful and prayed for a victory. However, the following morning when we gathered on the school grounds for the head-teacher’s announcement of the results, reality hit me hard. I realized that I had no chance of winning—was neither well known nor too pretty. I became depressed and felt as though I had no friends supporting me.
Later that day, as I cried in my room, I took a deep breath and decided to change my attitude. I refused to see myself as a failure and made a determination to run for the school elections again the following year—this time, with a plan to win. I sat down at my study table and wrote down my thoughts.
Although my competitors had certain advantages such as their stylish personalities, I recognized my own advantages—good grades, friendliness, helpfulness, and most importantly, my faith in myself to be a great leader. With a whole year ahead, I began to plan my election strategies that evening.
To gain recognition(认可) and show my ability to represent my fellow students, I started making new friends and helping them at school. Besides, I attended a public speaking course to learn how to give a great election speech. By the time the elections came around, I was well-prepared, and I gave a passionate speech on the stage.

new responsibilities. Here are some tips to help you make a smooth transition.
Get organized from day one.High school brings more subjects, more homework, and more deadlines than
middle school.36 Keep a planner or use a digital calendar to track assignments, tests, and important
dates.Set aside a specific time each day for homework and review. This simple habit will prevent last-minute
panic.
Build positive relationships with your teachers.Unlike middle school, high school teachers often see
hundreds of students each day.37 Don't be afraid to ask questions in class or seek extra help after
school.Showing that you are motivated and engaged can make a big difference.
Get involved in school activities. One of the best ways to feel connected to your new school is to join clubs,
sports teams,or volunteer groups.38 It also helps you develop new skills and interests outside the
classroom.Don't worry if you don't find your perfect fit right away-try different activities and see what you
enjoy.
39 Many students feel pressure to fit in,but the friends who accept you for who you are will be
the ones worth keeping.Don't change yourself just to impress others.
Take care of your health.40 Eat balanced meals, get enough sleep, and make time for exercise.A
healthy body supports a healthy mind, and both are essential for academic success.
A.These activities can help you meet people who share similar interests.
B.Beyourself.
C.Make a good first impression on the first day of school.
D.This means you need to take responsibility for your learning.

M: Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to our school. My name is Andrew Brown. I’m a history teacher. I’ll give you a quick introduction to the school before I show you around. Our school is called a “free school”. This means that the pupils are free to choose what and how they want to learn.
The school opens at 9:00 am, but the children can arrive whenever they like. Most of them are in school by 10:00.
If you look through the door of that big room, you’ll see those children reading and drawing there. Four of the older boys are now on their way to the Car-room to have their driving lessons. Several children are taking turns in the kitchen to help Miss Cabe with lunch. They all enjoy doing this. After lunch it’s someone else’s job to do the washing-up. This job is unpopular. After lunch the children go on with what they’ve been doing until 4:30. On Mondays and Thursdays the school is open in the evening until 9:00 pm.

24.What did John use to be?
A.A welder. B.A deliveryman. C.A driver. D.A cook.
25.What is the main idea of Paragraph 2?
A.What John decided to do. B.Why John accepted training.
C.How John improved himself. D.When John learned welding.
26.What is John’s daily life like?
A.Tiring but educational. B.Busy but meaningful.
C.Easy and satisfying. D.Interesting and relaxing.
27.Which can describe John’s experience?
A.Action speaks louder than words. B.One is never too young to learn.
C.Pride goes before a fall. D.One should set goals and work for it.
根据第一段中“After graduating from high school, John got a job delivering pizzas. (高中毕业后,约翰找了一份送披萨的工作)”可知,约翰以前是一名送货员。
25.主旨大意题。根据第二段中“John wanted to learn everything about welding and decided he’d make welding his career. But one night class wouldn’t be enough. John went to Hobart Welding School for real, technical training. Besides welding courses, John also took classes in subjects like metallurgy — the study of metal — and reading blueprints. He became more certain that he would stick to the job.
根据第四段中“A typical day for John includes a number of tasks and skills. One minute, he’s driving a forklift. The next, he’s reading blueprints, or cutting materials. (约翰平常的一天要完成多项工作,用到多种技能。这会儿他在开叉车,下一刻又在看蓝图或者切割材料)”可知,他的日常工作很忙碌;根据最后一段中“I am working for a company that is helping the country to go green, and it’s satisfying to be a part of the process.
C
【答案】28.D 29.A 30.D 31.A
由第一段“Instead, they care more about getting good value for their money.(相反,他们更关心的是物有所值)”和第二段“Reverse consumption encourages people not to waste.(逆向消费鼓励人们不浪费)”可知,“reverse consumption”指反向消费,主要表现是追求性价比和避免浪费。
由第三段“Many young people are starting to realize that having lots of material goods doesn’t bring true happiness. They are more interested in personal growth, spiritual (精神的) wealth, and the building of social relationships.(许多年轻人开始意识到,拥有大量物质财富并不能带来真正的幸福。他们更关注个人成长、精神富足以及建立社会关系)”可知,年轻人认为真正的幸福来自内在的成长(如个人成长、精神富足、社会关系),而非物质拥有。
30.细节理解题。由最后一段“Companies are being pushed to take social and environmental responsibility (责任) more seriously, and to think more about social interests when designing and making things.(企业正被要求更加认真地承担社会责任和环境责任,并在设计和制造产品时更多地考虑社会利益)”可知,反向消费促使企业承担更多的社会和环境责任。
【答案】32.A 33.B 34.C 35.D
根据第一段中“Since Glacier National Park’s creation, it has represented the spiritual treasure of Americans with its breathtaking landscapes. But today, climate warming threatens the very emblem of the park, leaving it facing a future in which its name could be a cruel irony. (自冰川国家公园建立以来,它以其壮丽的景观成为美国人民精神上的瑰宝。但如今,气候变暖正威胁着这座公园的emblem,使它面临一个未来:它的名字可能成为一种残酷的讽刺。)”可知,冰川是公园的标志,emblem含义为“象征、标志”,和Symbol词义相符。
33.细节理解题。根据第二段中“Just a few decades ago, the land was entirely frozen. Now the glacier itself is reduced to taking up a small area, sheltered from the sun at the edge of the lake created through its own melting. (仅仅几十年前,这片土地完全被冰冻。现在冰川本身缩小到只占很小的面积,躲在自己融化形成的湖泊边缘躲避阳光。)”可知,新湖泊的出现是冰川融化的结果,被用来作为气候变暖的证据。
34.细节理解题。根据最后一段中“The climate crisis has thus brought about a shift in the organization's philosophy: It’s acceptable to change a park’s natural state to stop its further worsening. (气候危机因此带来了该组织理念的转变:改变公园的自然状态以阻止其进一步恶化是可以接受的。)”可知,国家公园管理局被迫调整其保护原则。
35.主旨大意题。根据第一段中“But today, climate warming threatens the very emblem of the park, leaving it facing a future in which its name could be a cruel irony (但如今,气候变暖正威胁着这座公园的象征,使它面临一个未来:它的名字可能成为一种残酷的讽刺。)”、第五段中“It’s certainly possible that the park could lose the iconic feature for which it has been named. (公园很可能会失去其命名所依据的标志性特征。)”以及最后一段The climate crisis has thus brought about a shift in the organization's philosophy: It’s acceptable to change a park's natural state to stop its further worsening.

F.Stay away from those who don’t understand you.
G.Plan your time wisely.

39.空格是本段的主旨句,后文“Many students feel pressure to fit in, but the friends who accept you for who you are will be the ones worth keeping. Don’t change yourself just to impress others.( 许多学生都感到压力,想要融入集体,但真正值得珍惜的,是那些接纳你本来样子的朋友。不要为了取悦他人而改变自己。)”核心内容为“不必为了融入而改变自己,接受真实的你的朋友才值得交往”,围绕“做自己”展开。B 选项“Be yourself.( 做你自己。)”精准概括了本段主旨,适合作为段落小标题。
40.本段主旨是“Take care of your health.(关注健康。)”,空后“Eat balanced meals, get enough sleep, and make time for exercise.( 均衡饮食、保证充足睡眠,并抽出时间锻炼身体。)” E 选项“High school can be stressful, so don’t forget to take care of yourself.(高中可能压力很大,别忘了照顾好自己。)”
