These magic creatures are from the ancient story book Shan Hai Jing. Shan Hai Jing, also known as The Classic of Mountains and Seas, is said to be at least 2, 200 years old. It is about the culture and geography of China before the Qin dynasty. It has about 31,000 words. The whole collection includes eighteen parts, talking about more than 550 mountains and 300 seas. It also tells many interesting stories and creatures. A famous story in the book is about Zhu Rong, the God of Fire. He was seen as having a beastlike (猛兽般的) body and a human face, riding around the sky on two dragons. When he had a big fight with Gong Gong, the God of water, Zhu Rong won. But after the fight, the human world became dark. Then he brought fire from heaven to the world and taught humans how to use it. It is an invaluable ancient book in China and thought as one of the treasures of Chinese culture. 19.How does the writer start the passage? A.By telling two jokes. B.By raising two questions. A.复杂的 B.唯一的 C.真实的 D.极有价值的 C It may sound hard to believe that animals can predict earthquakes, but many facts seem to support this idea. The earliest report of unusual animal actions before a big earthquake was from Greece in 373 BC. Rats and weasels (黄鼠狼) left their homes and went to safe places several days before a strong earthquake. On February 4, 1975, Chinese officers told people in Haicheng, Liaoning to leave their houses and stay outdoors. They thought a disaster was coming, partly because of animals’ strange actions. For example, many toads (蟾蜍) appeared in the streets and sleeping snakes came out of the ground. Hours later, a big and strong earthquake hit the city. Another example happened in December 2004 in a national park in Sri Lanka. The animals felt something wrong that day. Birds flew away for no reason, and elephants ran to higher ground. Minutes later, a huge earthquake happened under the sea. However, scientists say that although animals act strangely before earthquakes, this does not mean they can predict disasters. It could just be a natural answer. All animals have the ability to stay away from danger. So how do they do it? Animals have very good senses. They can find small environmental changes we do not notice. Some have strong hearing or smell; others can notice changes in atmospheric (大气的) pressure. For example, fish can feel changes in water pressure, so they may jump out of water or swim in strange ways before an earthquake. Although scientists do not agree on animals’ special ability, it is good to pay more attention to the animals around you. 23.Why did officers in Haicheng ask people to stay outdoors? A.To watch animals’ unusual activities. B.To keep away from the possible disaster. C.To enjoy the warm winter sun. 24.What does the underlined word “It” in Paragraph 5 refer to? A.Fish jump out of water. B.People notice small changes. C.Animals act strangely before earthquakes. 25.What can we learn from Paragraph 6? A.Fish can know the time of an earthquake exactly. B.Animals can easily notice small environmental changes. C.Atmospheric pressure changes always mean an earthquake is coming. 26.Which of the following is the best title for the passage? A.How to Predict Earthquakes Quickly B.Ways to Protect Animals From Disasters C.Animals’ Strange Actions Before Earthquakes D ①Today, you are probably used to 3D, 4D, or even 5D movies. However, do you remember the very first 3D masterpiece? Yes, it was Avatar! When it was first released, it shocked the world with its amazing visual effects. Now, the excitement is back because Avatar 3 (titled Avatar: Fire and Ash) has finally hit the big screen. ②In the first movie, we met the Omaticaya, a group of people living in the forest. In the second movie, The Way of Water, we visited the beautiful oceans. This time, the story brings a new part: Fire. We meet a new group of people called the “Ash People”. At the same time, the film keeps telling us it’s important to stay together with family and protect our environment. ④When the movie ends, we know Jake Sully’s story will continue. This movie expands (扩张) the universe of Pandora, leaving us hungry for more. What secrets will Avatar 4 reveal? But if you want to tell them your story that is similar to their experience, it’s not always welcome. If you do feel that your experience might be helpful to hear, Miller’s advice is to let your friends know that you went through something similar, but allow them to decide if they want to hear about it at the moment. Ask how you can best help your friend. You may not know what kind of help your friends want. Just ask! Miller advises to try these questions: “ 33 ” “Do you need someone to talk to? Or would you like my advice?” “How are you feeling about the hard experience you’re going through? ” A heartfelt “I’m sorry” is a great help. 34 Because you cannot feel the same way as them. But Miller says a real, honest “I’m sorry” can help to make your friends feel heard and accepted. “Sometimes there isn’t a perfect way to make people feel better,” she says. “But what you need to do is to say ‘You’re not alone. I’m with you. I’m so sorry it’s happening to you.’”     A.What’s the best way I can help you right now? B.Keep your focus (关注) on your friend. C. But what does that look like?
