With the Qingming Scroll, Zhang made 10.an outstanding contribution to Chinese art and greatly influenced generations of future artists. Qingming Scroll① Zhang Zeduan’s Qingming Scroll is a masterwork of Chinese art②.[1]Painted on a five-metre-long silk scroll, it offers an important insight into③ life in China in the 12th century. It is commonly believed that the city described in the painting is Bianjing (present-day Kaifeng), the capital of the Northern Song Dynasty. The ancient scroll has survived the test of time remarkably well, and is currently housed in the Palace Museum in Beijing. The scroll consists of three main sections④.The first section presents a peaceful scene of rural life near Bianjing, featuring crop fields, a river winding through the landscape⑤, and farmers hard at work. The second section shows the riverbanks and the central bridge alive with activity⑥ as boats sail in and out of Bianjing.Civilians can also be seen walking through the city gate in both directions. The third and final section pictures life inside the city itself. Here, hundreds of people from all walks of life⑦, including butchers, hairdressers and government officials, can be seen going about their daily business⑧.The combination of these three sections gives the viewer an idea of what life was like for the people of Bianjing. Zhang’s amazing artistic technique is apparent all across the scroll.Using ink on silk, he creates realistic images of scenery, buildings and people, and displays a remarkable mastery of perspective⑨.The most impressive aspect of the painting⑩, however, is probably Zhang’s precise brushwork.[2]This well-developed ability⑪, as well as the scroll’s ambitious size, allows Zhang to show an enormous amount of detail — you could study the painting for hours and still discover something new. Thanks to all this fine detail, the Qingming Scroll provides a comprehensive look at⑫ life during the Northern Song Dynasty. It reveals a great deal about⑬ the 12th-century Chinese customs, clothing, transportation methods, business practices, and a wide range of buildings, such as temples, teahouses and government structures.[3]At first sight⑭,the overall scene of life in the capital city appears peaceful and cheerful. However, some critics suggest that on closer inspection⑮, the painting actually exposes serious political and social problems. Some boats carrying food do not seem to belong to the government, which suggests that the government has lost control of food supplies and transportation. Also in the painting are soldiers who appear to ignore their duties⑯.There are some less obvious indicators of trouble too.For example, in the centre of the scroll, a boat is in danger of crashing into the bridge. These sorts of details point to a crisis developing in the city.In fact, the Northern Song Dynasty was in decline⑰ by this stage.About twenty years after the painting was completed, it was overthrown. Zhang’s timeless scroll⑱ is an important example of realism in the history of Chinese paintings⑲.Its value is down not only to its great scale, artistic quality and attention to detail, but also to its representation of daily life.[4]Such is its worth that several later emperors even asked the most talented artists of their day to make copies of the scroll. Some of these copies are now regarded as precious works of art in their own right ⑳.With the Qingming Scroll, Zhang made an outstanding contribution to㉑ Chinese art and greatly influenced generations of future artists. The original scroll is still in one piece㉒ despite its age, but it is extremely delicate.Because of this, it is not often displayed to the public. The last time it was on exhibition㉓, crowds waited in line for hours for the rare chance to see the famous painting with their own eyes.[5]The public’s continued enthusiasm about the Qingming Scroll, even after all these centuries, speaks volumes about㉔ the power of this historic piece of art. Paras.1-3 Ⅰ. 通过could ...and still ... appears(看似)与exposes(揭露)形成一对张力十足的反义词,彰显用词的精准与张力。 Such is its worth that ... Its worth is so great that ...。 Part Ⅱ Language Points Ⅰ. 3.the architecture of the eighteenth century 5.a writer of great insight 一位有深刻洞察力的作家 6.crop production/yield 农作物生产/产量 7.the Roman emperors 罗马皇帝 8.soldiers and civilians 士兵和平民 9.precise instructions 明确的指令 10.the structure of the building 这座建筑物的结构 11.her overall performance 她的整体表现 12.a literary critic 一位文学评论家 13.a period of economic crisis 14.the high cost of food and clothing 写作词汇 1.under the shaded light 隐在阴影中 2.be bathed in the sunshine 5.arrange for a car to collect you 安排一辆小汽车接你 6.the stream winds its way across the field 小溪蜿蜒穿过田野 7.sail in rough weather 天气不好的时候航行 8.like one enormous street carnival 像是一场盛大的街头狂欢节 9.fog covers the temples 雾笼罩着寺庙 10.do not overthrow my plan 没有推翻我的方案 11.his outstanding ability 他杰出的能力 12.one of the rarest plants 最为稀有的植物之一 13.during his career 在他的职业生涯中 Ⅲ. 1.①have two slices of toast with jam 吃两片吐司配果酱 ②propose a toast to our friendship 为我们的友谊干杯 ③toast the bread 烤面包 ④let’s toast to the newlyweds 让我们举杯祝贺这对新人 2.①decline to be interviewed 谢绝采访 ②the number of students has declined 学生人数下降 Ⅳ. 短语互译 1.all walks of life各行各业,社会各界 2.go about sth 忙于做某事,继续做某事 3.be down to 由……引起(或造成) 4.in one’s own right 凭自身的资格(或努力) 5.speak volumes about 充分说明,清楚表明 6.pick up 拾起,拿起;学会;用车接 某人;恢复 7.consist of 由……组成(不用于被动 语态和进行时态) 8.wind through 蜿蜒流过 9.an amount of 许多,大量的 10.thanks to 幸亏,由于 11.crash into 撞上,撞入 12.be in decline 处于下降中,处于衰退中 13.be regarded as 被视为,被看成是 14.be on exhibition 展出中 15.offer an important insight into 深入了解 16.on closer inspection 经过更仔细的观察 Ⅵ. Nowadays, the use of smartphones in museums continues to rise and art experts are concerned about how to get people to truly appreciate artworks rather than simply take photos or record videos to post on social media. 2.It is+动词-ed形式+that ... Ⅰ.阅读理解 􀳁A (2026•江苏苏州高二上月考)Fathers can give their children an educational advantage at primary school by reading, drawing and playing with them, according to a newly published report.Research led by the University of Leeds has found that children do better at primary school if their fathers regularly spend time with them on interactive engagement activities like reading, playing, telling stories, drawing and singing. Analysing primary school test scores for five-and seven-year-olds, the researchers used a representative sample of nearly 5,000 mother-father households in England from the Millennium Cohort Study. According to the research, dads who regularly drew, played and read with their three-year-olds helped their children do better at school by age five.Dads being involved at age five also helped improve scores in seven-year-olds’ Key Stage Assessments. Dr Helen Norman, who led the research, said, “Mothers still tend to assume the primary carer role and therefore tend to do the most childcare, but if fathers enthusiastically engage in childcare too, it significantly increases the likelihood of children getting better grades in primary school. This is why encouraging and supporting fathers to share childcare with the mother, from an early stage in the child’s life,is critical.” Dads’ involvement impacted positively on their children’s school achievement regardless of the child’s gender (性别), age in the school year and household income, according to the report. There were different effects when mums and dads took part in the same activities — the data showed that mums had more of an impact on young children’s emotional and social behaviors than educational achievement. The researchers recommend that dads carve out as much time as they can to engage in interactive activities with their children each week. For busy, working dads, even just ten minutes a day could potentially have educational benefits. They also recommend that schools and early years education providers routinely take both parents’ contact details (where possible) and develop strategies to engage fathers. 1.What can we learn about the research?( ) A.Mums had more impact on young children’s educational achievement. In secondary school, art was my favourite subject.Since I loved it so much I thought I was good at it.For the art O-level exam I had to present an oil painting.I found it difficult, but still hoped to pass.I failed, with a low grade.I’d been over-confident.Now I’d been declared talentless. But other channels of creativity stayed open: I went on writing poems and stories.Still, I went to exhibitions often.I continued my habitual drawing, which I now characterised as childish doodling (乱画).In my 30s, I made painter friends and learned new ways of looking at art. However, I couldn’t let myself have a go at actually doing it.Though these new friends were abstract painters using oil paints, or were printmakers or sculptors, I took oil painting as the taboo (禁忌) high form I wasn’t allowed to practice. One night, in my early 40s, I dreamed that a big woman in red approached me, handed me a bag of paints, and told me to start painting. The dream felt so authoritative that it shook me.It was a form of energy, giving me back something I’d lost.Accordingly, I started by experimenting with water colours. Finally, I bought some oil paints. Although I have enjoyed breaking my decades-long taboo about working with oil paints, I have discovered I now prefer chalks and ink.I let my line drawings turn into cartoons I send to friends. It all feels free and easy.Un-anxious.This time around, I can accept my limitations but keep going. Becoming a successful painter calls for being resolute.I realised I was always afraid of wanting too much. That dream reminded me that those fears and desires could encourage me to take risks and make experiments. 5.How did the author feel about the result of the art exam?( ) A.Scared.
