Do you listen to music at the gym? Today, most gym-goers like
to wear head-phones and listen to self-selected music while they’re

increase motivation and make intense exercise more enjoyable when
someone is walking or jogging?
英 语·选择性必修第一册(YL)
目 录
Based on practical experience, a recent study provides new evidence
that listening to music while running on a treadmill (跑步机) fights
with mental tiredness and improves performance.According to a news
release, this study is “the first to investigate the effect of listening to
music playlists on long-distance running capacity and performance when
mentally tired”.These findings were published online ahead of print on

group of experienced runners do a high-intensity 5-kilometre treadmill
run with and without self-selected motivational music after they’d
performed a series of cognitive (认知的) exams designed to put them in
a mentally tired state. The researchers found that “listening to self-
selected music in a mentally tired state reduces the negative impact of
mental tiredness on their running capacity and performance, potentially
due to changed perception of effort when listening to music”.
英 语·选择性必修第一册(YL)
目 录
“Mental tiredness is a common occurrence for many of us and can
negatively impact many of our day-to-day activities, including
exercise.Finding safe and effective ways to reduce this negative impact
is, therefore, useful,” Shaun Phillips of Edinburgh’s Moray House
School said in the news release.
“The findings indicate that listening to personalized motivational
music may be a useful strategy to help active people improve their
endurance running capacity and performance when mentally tired,” he
added.“This positive impact of self-selected music could help people
to better keep the quality and beneficial impact of their exercise sessions.”

(2026•湖南邵东创新高级中学期中)If you have ever dreamed of
making money from making music but are worried that you have little
talent, don’t let that stop you — a man called Alex Mitchell might be
able to help.
Mr Mitchell is the founder and boss of a website and app called
Boomy, which helps its users create their own songs using artificial

英 语·选择性必修第一册(YL)
目 录
It is easy to use the app to help you compose the music. What you
need to do is choose from a number of types and click on “create

is able to quickly choose the song’s style and melody (旋律).And

such as adding or removing instruments, making everything sound
brighter or softer, and recording some songs.
英 语·选择性必修第一册(YL)
目 录
But, how good are these Boomy-created songs? It has to be said
that they do sound very computer-produced.You wouldn’t mistake them
for a group of people making music using real instruments. However,
using AI to help create music isn’t quite new.US classical composer,
David Cope, developed such a software system back in the 1980s.One
day he set it up to write pieces similar to those by Johann Sebastian
Bach.Mr Cope then went out for a sandwich, and returned to find that
the computer had created 5,000 Bach-styled pieces. These were later
made public on an album called Bach on purpose.
英 语·选择性必修第一册(YL)
目 录
More recently, in 2019, US electronic music composer, Holly
Herndon, made an album called PROTO working together with an AI
system called Spawn that she had co-created.

songwriting software much cheaper. It’s not just for musicians
anymore; it’s for most people like you and me.

title track of this year’s award-winning album, Pink Noise — not a slice
of sleepiness but tuneful, lyrical dance-pop that took her three years to
make.Spotify, Apple Music, and other streaming services pay
royalties in roughly the same way. They set aside a total pot for royalties, which is then divided up between distributors, record labels, recording artists and songwriters. That means that Mvula will get a smaller slice of the Spotify pie than White Noise Baby Sleep, although most of it goes to the major record companies.

many of the artists’ names are pseudonyms (假名) used by
companies.
