On the first day of school this year, Joseph Riley, the principal of Pocahontas County High School in West Virginia, dropped by the band classroom and told the 38 students that the school had been unable to find a band teacher after the former teacher left over the summer to take a teaching position at a different school.
“I said that we’d have to get them into other classes,” Riley said. Then he gave the students a second option. If the teens wanted to keep the Warriors band going and teach themselves, the school would support them. Most students decided to take a different class, but ten students took him up on the offer. The guys didn’t give up in the face of adversity and they found the courage to keep the band going.
The ten band members elected Hailey Fitzgerald, 17, as band director, and then invited two teachers from the school to serve as advisors. Math teacher Jennifer Nail-Cook agreed to offer support. “They’re an ensemble (合奏团队) together,” Fitzgerald said. “They also had to solve a problem when they realized they had too many drummers.” The band’s latest performance was at their school’s Homecoming Day. “When we do our school song, that’s probably everybody’s favorite,” said Jadyn Lane, 17. “To see so many people supporting and cheering us on, that’s a huge motivator.”
Several school alumni (校友) volunteered to join the students in the stands on Homecoming Day. “Our school is the heart of the community,” Riley said. “Everyone is really appreciative of these kids working together to make sure our school still has a band. It’s incredible to witness the progress they’ve made on their own.”
Years from now, Fitzgerald said she imagines she’ll look back on her junior year as band director with pride. “It was never an option for us to quit — we all love it too much,” she said.

School is still out for the summer, but at Eastern Senior High School in Washington, D.C., students are hard at work outdoors. In a garden filled with flowers, vegetables and herbs, nearly a dozen teenagers are harvesting (收获) vegetables for the weekend’s farmers market.
Anita is going into her junior year at Eastern, and has been working in this garden for three years now. In summer, Anita works from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday to Saturday and gets paid by City Blossoms. It is a nonprofit group, which builds community gardens for city schools. She believes that gardening has taught her to try all sorts of new things, like eating a wider variety of vegetables regularly. She brought these healthy habits home, and her improved diet even inspired her family to buy more fruits and vegetables.
Anita’s experience is a good example of the broader impact that City Blossoms aims to create. City Blossoms is one of many groups across the country that team up with local communities to establish school gardens. It cooperates with schools to build garden classrooms. Besides, it offers training to teachers to attract students’ attention and improve their grades. These gardens effectively function as open-air classrooms. For example, they can be used for math lessons, like calculating the area of a plant bed or learning the science of how plants grow.
For the students, the experience has totally changed their views on where food comes from, and what it takes to produce food. Partner schools have also seen a 12-15% rise in the number of students passing standardized tests (标准化考试) and 94% of teachers reported seeing increased engagement from their students, according to an independent evaluation conducted by PEER Associates.
28.What does Anita think of the summer outdoor activity?
A.It brings her whole family closer.
B.It helps her perform better at school.
C.It is a nice way to earn pocket money.
D.It contributes to her healthy eating habit.
29.What is the main original purpose of building school gardens?
A.To increase students’ test scores.
B.To provide a creative way of learning.
C.To make students fall in love with planting.
D.To help teachers improve professional skills.
30.What aspect of City Blossoms is discussed in the last paragraph?
A.Its daily operations. B.Its practical effects.
C.Its applications. D.Its expectations.
31.What can be the most suitable title for the text?

B.Healthy Eating: Changing Family Habits
C.Gardening: A Summer Part-time Job for Students
D.Outdoor Classrooms: More Than Planting Lessons

These gardens effectively function as open-air classrooms. (它与学校合作建设花园教室。此外,它还提供教师培训,以吸引学生的注意力并提高他们的成绩。这些花园有效地充当了露天教室。)”可知,建造学校花园的初衷是将其作为一种创新的教学方式,提供一种富有创意的学习方式。
30.主旨大意题。根据最后一段内容“For the students, the experience has totally changed their views on where food comes from, and what it takes to produce food. 31.主旨大意题。文章第一段引出东部高中学生在暑期参与园艺活动;第二段通过阿尼塔的例子说明园艺活动对学生饮食习惯的积极影响;第三段介绍“城市之花”通过与学校合作建设花园教室、培训教师,将花园打造成露天教室;第四段说明这些活动对学生产生的实际效果,包括观念改变、成绩提高和参与度提升。全文围绕“城市之花”展开,表明它不仅仅是一个花园,更是一个多功能的教育平台。A选项“City Blossoms: More Than a Garden (城市之花:不仅仅是花园)”准确概括了文章主旨。
D
How words came into being is unknown. All we assume is that some early men invented certain sounds, in one way or another, to express thoughts and feelings, actions and things, so that they could talk with each other. Later they agreed upon certain signs, called letters, which could be put together to show those sounds, and which could be written down. Those sounds, whether spoken or written in letters, are called words.
The power of words, then, lies in their associations — the things they bring to our minds. Words become filled with meaning for us by experience; and the longer we live, the more certain words bring back to us the happy and sad events of our past; and the more we read and learn, the larger the number of words that mean something to us becomes.
Great writers are those who not only have great thoughts but also express these thoughts in words which have powerful effects on our minds and feelings. This clever use of words is what we call rhetoric. Above all, the real poet is a master of words. He can express his meaning in words which sing like music, and which by their position and association can move people to tears. We should therefore learn to choose our words carefully and use them correctly, or they will make our speech silly and common.
From this we can see that words are not simply tools for communication. They carry the weight of human history, emotion, and thought. Every time we speak or write, we are taking part in a tradition that began thousands of years ago. When we use words poorly, we fail not only ourselves but also those who listen. But when we use them well, we can inspire, comfort, and teach. The study of words, therefore, is the study of life itself. Those who wish to express themselves clearly must first understand the power that lies in every syllable. A single word, placed correctly, can change a mind or lift a heart. That is why we must never stop learning about language. That is why words will always matter.
32.We learn from the text that language might have begun with ________.
A.expressions B.actions C.signs D.sounds
33.What is mainly discussed in Paragraph 2?
A.The learning of new words.
B.The importance of old words.
C.The relation of human experience with words.
D.The gradual change and development of words.
34.In the third paragraph, the word “rhetoric” probably means ________.
A.wording B.grammar C.quotation D.vocabulary
35.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.The power of language grows through experience and reading.
B.Great writers are those who can express great thoughts clearly.
C.Poets can move people to tears with their careful choice of words.
D.Language is a common way for people to share different inner ideas.

52.考查副词。句意:在那些聚会里,他们始终切换英语为我搭建沟通桥梁,可我却从未主动靠近、走到他们的语言世界。A. even甚至;B. always总是;C. only仅仅;D. never从未。根据前文“by unfailingly shifting to English, they had built a bridge for me”及yet表转折可知,对比他人的付出,作者自己从来没有尝试学习丹麦语。
53.考查形容词。句意:我一直对这份善意馈赠,以及这份亏欠视而不见。A. familiar熟悉的;B. blind盲目的、视而不见;C. devoted投入的;D. sensitive敏感的。根据前文“by unfailingly shifting to English, they had built a bridge for me — yet I had once ventured to the other side”可知,作者一直只接受别人迁就,却从未主动付出,对别人表现出的善意视而不见,固定搭配be blind to表示“对……视而不见”。
54.考查形容词。句意:我或许永远无法说得像本地人一样地道,但真正的联结不在于交流顺畅轻松,而在于双向的付出,这份善意我一味接受,却从未回馈。A. strong-willed意志坚定的;B. well-known知名的;C. native-like像母语者一样地道;D. open-minded豁达的。根据前文“I asked Augusta to teach me a few Danish phrases”可知,作者刚学几句丹麦语,自知达不到本地人流利水平。
55.考查名词。句意同上。A. habits习惯;B. dreams梦想;C. efforts努力、付出;D. goals目标。根据前文“I asked Augusta to teach me a few Danish phrases”及“by unfailingly shifting to English, they had built a bridge for me”可知,丹麦同学付出努力为了迁就作者,选择说英语,作者也要付出努力学丹麦语,双向的付出才是情感联结。
第二节(共10小题:每小题1. 5分, 满分15分)
阅读下面短文, 在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。
Mamcu, a 22-year-old Tibetan singer, has gained a large following online by singing traditional Tibetan songs. 56 (write) in Tibetan lyrics, the song tells the story of a Tibetan girl 57 (find) her voice, which has become popular even among those who don’t understand the language. “I want to protect my mother tongue and promote Tibetan culture through music,” Mamcu said.
Hu Shuning, 27, from Suzhou, is another young advocate for dialect protection. She first realized the 58 (urgent) of saving dialects when her cousin, who grew up in a big city, couldn’t understand a single Suzhou dialect word. In 2015, she began teaching Suzhou dialect online and later obtained a teaching certificate. She now runs a popular Douyin account 59 she posts short videos teaching people Suzhou dialect and sharing local culture.
In addition to personal efforts, technology is also contributing to dialect preservation. Dingguagua, 60 AI-based app developed by a team of young programmers, 61 (allow) users to record and share Chaoshan dialect. The app has collected over 100,000 voice recordings and become a platform for Chaoshan people 62 (connect) with their roots.
Dialects are not just tools for communication; they are carriers of local culture and history. 63 , with the popularity of Mandarin and the influence of mass media, many dialects are facing the risk of extinction. According to a UNESCO report, since 1975, about 2,500 languages 64 (lose). In China, many local dialects are also declining, especially among young people who often view dialects 65 outdated.
【答案】
56.Written 57.finding 58.urgency 59.where 60.an 61.allows 62.to connect 63.However 64.have been lost 65.as
分析可知,“_______ she posts short videos…”
分析可知,“______ (connect) with their roots”为“a platform”的后置定语,用动词不定式表达。
63.考查副词。句意:然而,随着普通话的普及和大众传媒的影响,很多方言正面临灭绝的风险。分析语境可知,上文“Dialects are not just tools for communication; they are carriers of local culture and history.(方言不仅是交流的工具,更是地方文化与历史的载体。)”
“view...as...”是固定搭配,意为“把……看作……”,符合此处语境。

【答案】
Dear Mrs. White,
Knowing that our school English newspaper will add a new music column and collect students’ opinions, I’m writing to strongly recommend the theme “My Music Story”.
Compared with “My Favorite Singer”, this theme is more meaningful and creative. It allows students to share personal experiences and feelings behind music, making the column warmer and more touching. Besides, it encourages us to express ourselves freely instead of simply introducing a singer. In this way, the column can attract more readers and show students’ rich inner world.
I hope my suggestion will be helpful to you.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料:根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Emma had always been a shy girl, the kind who would sit quietly in the back row and pray the teacher never called her name. She hated speaking in front of people and would avoid attention at all costs. Her best friend, Mia, was the complete opposite — outgoing, confident, and never afraid to express herself, whether it was debating in class or singing loudly in the hallway.
One day, the school announced a public speaking competition. The winner would receive a golden trophy and a chance to represent the school at the city level. To everyone’s surprise, Mia secretly signed Emma up for the competition.
“You need to step out of your comfort zone, Emma!” Mia said excitedly, her eyes sparkling with encouragement.
Emma was absolutely terrified. “I can’t do this, Mia! I’ll forget everything on stage. Everyone will laugh at me. I’ll make a total fool of myself,” she whispered, almost in tears.
But Mia wouldn’t take no for an answer.
Every day after school, she dragged Emma to the empty music room and made her practice — from choosing a meaningful topic to working on eye contact and voice control. Mia even recorded Emma’s speeches and played them back so she could improve. Emma slowly grew better, pronouncing each word more clearly and gesturing more naturally, though the deep fear never completely left her.
Finally, the competition day arrived. As Emma stood backstage behind the heavy red curtains, her heart was pounding wildly. She peeked at the crowded hall full of students and teachers, and her legs began to shake uncontrollably. Then she heard the host announce clearly, “Next up: Emma.”
She walked onto the stage, but as soon as she saw hundreds of eyes staring at her, her mind went completely blank — not a single word remained.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡上的相应位置作答。
Paragraph 1: At that moment, she saw Mia, holding a small sign: “You’ve practiced this a hundred times. I believe in you.”

Paragraph 2: After the competition, Emma walked off the stage with tears in her eyes — but this time, they were tears of joy.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】例文
At that moment, she saw Mia, holding a small sign: “You’ve practiced this a hundred times. I believe in you.” Emma took a deep breath and closed her eyes for a second. When she opened them again, she stopped shaking. The words she had practiced so many times suddenly came back to her. She began to speak — slowly at first, then with more confidence. She talked about overcoming fear and the power of friendship. Her voice grew stronger with every sentence. When she finished, the hall erupted into applause. She didn’t win the golden trophy, but for the first time in her life, she was proud of herself for trying.
After the competition, Emma walked off the stage with tears in her eyes — but this time, they were tears of joy. Mia rushed over and hugged her tightly. “You did it! I knew you could!” Emma smiled and said, “I was so scared, but seeing your sign made me believe in myself.” From that day on, Emma was no longer afraid to speak up in class or join school activities. She realized that stepping out of her comfort zone wasn’t about being perfect — it was about being brave enough to try. And sometimes, a little encouragement from a friend could make all the difference.

D.It contributes to her healthy eating habit.
29.What is the main original purpose of building school gardens?
A.To increase students’ test scores.
B.To provide a creative way of learning.
C.To make students fall in love with planting.

B.Healthy Eating: Changing Family Habits
C.Gardening: A Summer Part-time Job for Students
D.Outdoor Classrooms: More Than Planting Lessons

第一节(满分15分)
Dear Mrs. White,
Knowing that our school English newspaper will add a new music column and collect students’ opinions, I’m writing to strongly recommend the theme “My Music Story”.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

第二节(满分25分)
【参考范文】
(175 words)

The Language Exchange Programme allows students in pairs to communicate in two different languages they wish to share and learn each week. Students record short entries after each partner meeting noting the language skills practised and the topics discussed. Each pair of students meets three times throughout the term with a teacher who decides if the exchange is effective. Students who successfully complete the programme will receive one credit each.
Requirements for completion:

A.City Blossoms: More Than a Garden
B.Healthy Eating: Changing Family Habits
C.Gardening: A Summer Part-time Job for Students
D.Outdoor Classrooms: More Than Planting Lessons
