Asking for permission is an important skill for teenagers. When you want to hang out with friends, talking with your parents politely is the first step. However, disagreements and conflicts are unavoidable in daily communication.
When a conflict happens, many teenagers easily lose their tempers and talk back to their family members. This will make things much worse. Experts suggest that we should stay open‑minded. Instead of getting angry, we ought to listen to others’ opinions carefully. It’s wise to discuss problems rather than quarrel.
It takes time and practice to solve conflicts well. Nobody can avoid disagreements. If you respect others’ feelings and express your own thoughts properly, you will find it much easier to get along with people around you.

Greta Thunberg is a young climate activist from Sweden. When she was 15, she started sitting outside the Swedish Parliament every Friday, holding a sign that said “School Strike for Climate”. She refused to go to school until the government took serious action on climate change. Her small action soon spread around the world. Millions of students joined her, skipping school on Fridays to demand better environmental policies.
Greta’s message is simple: the Earth is getting warmer because of human activities, and if we don’t act now, it will be too late. She travels the world speaking at conferences, meeting world leaders, and telling everyone that the climate crisis is not a future problem—it is happening right now.
Many people, including some politicians, have criticized her. They say she is just a child and should go back to school. But Greta does not give up. She says, “I don’t want you to listen to me. I want you to listen to the scientists.” She believes that young people have the power to change the world because they are the ones who will live with the consequences of today’s decisions.
Greta’s story teaches us that one person’s voice can make a difference. She shows that age is not a barrier to standing up for what is right. As she often says, “No one is too small to make a change.”

For student Chen Honghan, the journey to school has changed from a treacherous 3-hour walk to a safe thirty-minute trip, thanks to the “cloud school bus”.
Chen comes from Nizhuhe Village between Yunnan and Guizhou. For years, Chen and her classmates walked on muddy roads to reach their school high on the top of the cliffs.
However, this challenging journey has now changed into a wonderful tour. They first ride a 6-minute scenic bus and then take a lift to climb 268 metres. Next, they take a cable car (缆车) ride. After a 1kilometre walk, they arrive at the school in just 30 minutes.
The change began with the introduction of the eco-cultural tourism (旅游业) in 2017. The project helped build a cliffside (悬崖边) lift in 2018 and a cable car in 2022. They were free for the villagers.
The “cloud school bus” not only safely sends the village children to school but has also attracted many tourists to the area. This also has improved villagers’ lives, with many starting businesses like coffee shops and guest houses. What’s more, some villagers have returned to their hometowns to help with the local development.
Cai Xiong once worked on the amazing project.“This tourism project is not only meant to help the villagers succeed, but also to serve as a ‘ladder to the clouds’ for the children. Have you ever heard of the 10,000-hour rule? It says that if you want to become an expert in something, you need to practise for about 10,000 hours. It is not about talent, but about hard work and persistence.
Many famous people have proved this rule. For example, Mo Yan, the first Chinese Nobel Prize winner in literature, wrote for many years before he became famous. He worked on his writing every day, even when he was very busy. He never gave up even when his works were refused many times.
Another example is Lang Lang, the famous pianist. He started playing the piano at the age of three. He practised for several hours every day when he was a kid. Sometimes his hands hurt, but he still kept going. His hard work finally made him a world-famous pianist.
The 10,000-hour rule tells us that there is no shortcut to success. If you want to achieve your dream, you need to keep working hard and never give up. One day, all your efforts will pay off.

A
Asking for permission is an important skill for teenagers.
21.What should teenagers do first if they want to hang out with friends?
A.Quarrel with their parents.
B.Ask their parents for permission politely.

I hope they will climb this ladder, get experience and grow, and finally return with the skills to make their hometown even better,” he said.

56.What does the 10,000-hour rule talk about?
57.Who is the first Chinese Nobel Prize winner in literature?

59.What made Lang Lang a world-famous pianist?
60.What can we learn from the rule?
