Self-directed learning is becoming more and more popular among middle school students. It means that learners take control of their own learning instead of only following teachers’ instructions passively.
For self-directed learners, the first step is to set clear goals. You need to know what you want to achieve in a certain period. For example, if you want to improve your English listening, you can set a goal of listening to 15 minutes of English materials every day. Clear goals keep you moving in the right direction.
Second, you need to choose proper learning methods. Different people have different learning habits. Some learn better by reading books, while others learn better by doing practice. You can try different methods and find the one that fits you best.
Third, self-directed learners should know how to check their own progress. You can test yourself from time to time to see how much you have improved. If you find you are not making progress, you can change your learning ways in time.
Self-directed learning is a lifelong skill. It not only helps you get good grades at school, but also prepares you for the future. The world is changing fast, and the ability to learn by yourself will help you keep up with the changes all your life.

阅读下面短文,根据短文内容回答下列问题
Dear Editor,
I’m a 14-year-old girl and I have a problem with my best friend, Lily. We used to be very close and told each other everything. But lately, she has been hanging out with a new group of classmates and often ignores me. When I try to talk to her, she says she’s busy. I feel hurt and left out. I don’t want to lose our friendship, but I don’t know what to do. Should I confront her directly or give her space? How can I make her remember our friendship? Please give me some advice.
Yours sincerely,
Anna
Dear Anna,
It’s common for friendships to go through changes, especially during teenage years. First, don’t blame yourself. People grow and their interests may shift. However, you have every right to feel hurt. Here’s my advice: have a calm and honest conversation with Lily. Choose a time when you both are relaxed. Tell her how you feel using “I” statements, such as “I feel sad when we don’t spend time together.” Listen to her side too. Maybe she is going through something she hasn’t shared. If she values your friendship, she will respond positively. If she continues to ignore you, it might be time to move on and make new friends. Remember, true friends will make time for you.
Best wishes,
Editor

58.根据回信段落“Here’s my advice: have a calm and honest conversation with Lily.”可知,编辑建议Anna首先和莉莉进行一次冷静坦诚的交谈。可直接从原文提取答案。

Self-directed learning is becoming more and more popular among middle school students. It means that learners take control of their own learning instead of only following teachers’ instructions passively.
For self-directed learners, the first step is to set clear goals. You need to know what you want to achieve in a certain period. Third, self-directed learners should know how to check their own progress. You can test yourself from time to time to see how much you have improved. If you find you are not making progress, you can change your learning ways in time.
