II.
A
Did anyone ask you, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” When I was young, people around me always asked me this question. Unlike my classmates, I kept quiet instead of smiling and answering. My teachers were surprised and asked, “Don’t you have a dream job?”
In fact, I had many dream jobs. I just didn’t know how to explain them.
I always dreamed of being a teacher because I liked helping others learn. To achieve my dream, I read many books and did a lot of exercises. I also dreamed of being a radio broadcaster (播音员) because I thought my voice was nice. I imagined how happy I’d be when broadcasting news. And I also wanted to work with animals in a zoo.
As I grew up, I learned more about myself and these jobs. Finally, my dream of being an English teacher came true. I taught English in a college. But in my second year, I realized I wasn’t good at speaking in public, and teachers need to talk to many people every day.
Now, I work as an editor (编辑). In a way, I still teach, but through written words. My old dream didn’t go away. I made it come true in other ways.
If you also have many dreams and don’t know about your future, you won’t have to pick one dream right away. Try different things! In this way, you’ll learn more about yourself and the world. Every experience is helpful. Just hold on to your dreams and move forward bravely.
21.Why did the writer dream of being a radio broadcaster?
A.Because he liked working with animals. B.Because he wanted to help others learn.
C.Because he thought his voice was nice. D.Because he was good at speaking in public.
22.How does the writer “teach” now?
A.By writing as an editor. B.By broadcasting news on the radio.
C.By talking to many people. D.By explaining his dream jobs.
23.What advice does the writer give?
A.Try different things. B.Live a simple life.
C.Pick one dream right away. D.Work in public.
【答案】21.C 22.A 23.A

Sarah often helped at her dad’s new restaurant. One day, as she carried a pork steak (猪排) to one of the customers, she froze—her classmate Kassy, with a group of friends, sat at a table.
Feeling nervous, Sarah hid behind the front desk. She was afraid that Kassy and other classmates would laugh at her for working there. Her dad noticed it and gently suggested she take a break.
Back in the kitchen, Sarah’s guilt (内疚) grew. Just at that time, Kassy came over and saw Sarah, “Oh, Sarah! You are here?” Knowing nowhere to hide, Sarah smiled with embarrassment and said, “This is my dad’s restaurant. Do you…like the food?”
“It’s amazing!” Kassy said. “Your dad’s a great cook!” Sarah watched her father carefully preparing dishes in the kitchen. A warm pride filled her heart. “He puts his heart into every dish,” she found herself saying. “I used to be embarrassed working here, but now…” This time she raised her voice, “I’m proud of my father and our restaurant.”
To her surprise, Kassy nodded, “You should be! This place is awesome.”

25.结合文章第二段“She was afraid that Kassy and other classmates would laugh at her for working there.”

Before each exam season, all you can think about for days is studying, preparing, and trying to get the best scores. Even after the exams, some new worries seem to come into your mind. You may want to know, “Did I write that correctly? Why did I even waste time on that question?”
But did you know this hard exam time also teaches you important life lessons? Check out what these lessons are, and keep them in mind. They matter far more than exams and will last a lifetime.
Planning your time is the first lesson you can learn. Before exams, you carefully plan hours for each subject — sometimes even giving up fun activities or gatherings (聚集) to study. This helps you learn not only how to use time wisely, but also how to follow your timetable.
Resilience is also a gift exams give you. There are moments you want to stop when you prepare for your exams, but you keep going and keep trying. That’s resilience: the power to face problems without giving up, even when things are very difficult.
Finally, exams help you understand yourself better. You have to stay calm when surprises happen — like unexpected questions or lower scores than you hoped. Exams help you know yourself better — how you study, what makes you work hard, and what stops you. This understanding is the first step towards growth.
So next time exams make you feel bad, do remember that they are not just about grades. Every exam is secretly training you for bigger challenges (挑战) ahead. When life gives you a “surprise test”, you’ll realize you’ve already practiced the skills to deal with it.
28.What does the writer tell us in paragraph 1?

29.What can students learn when they prepare for exams?
A.How to use time in a wise way. B.How to give up favourite subjects.
C.How to make a perfect reviewing plan. D.How to learn through fun activities.
30.What does the underlined word “resilience” mean?
A.The ability to learn new skills quickly. B.The knowledge of one’s own problems.
C.The habit of keeping away from challenges. D.The power to keep trying when facing difficulties.

根据第一段“Before each exam season, all you can think about... is studying... Even after the exams, some new worries seem to come into your mind.”
29. 根据第三段“This helps you learn not only how to use time wisely, but also how to follow your timetable.”
30. 根据第四段划线词后的解释“That’s resilience: the power to face problems without giving up, even when things are very difficult.” D“The power to keep trying difficulties”与此意最接近。

In recent years, more and more elderly people in China have been building lasting friendships, which bring them joy.
Ms Wang, 72 years old, lives in Beijing. She made friends with three other women at a community garden five years ago. Every morning, they meet at the garden to do tai chi together. After that, they sit on a bench and chat about their daily lives—their children, their grandchildren, or interesting things they saw on TV. “Before I met them, I felt very lonely,” Ms Wang said. “My children work in other cities, so I live alone. But now, I look forward to every morning because I know I will see my friends.”
These four friends also help each other in many ways. Last year, Ms Li fell and hurt her leg. Her friends took turns visiting her and bringing her meals. They also helped her clean her house and take care of her plants. “They are like my family,” Ms Li said. “I don’t know what I would have done without them.”
Another group of elderly friends in Shanghai has a different way of staying connected. They formed a “book club” three years ago. Every Saturday afternoon, they meet at a community center to read and discuss books. Most of the books they read are about Chinese history or traditional culture. “Reading together helps us learn new things, and discussing the books brings us closer,” said Mr Chen, 78 years old. “We also share our own stories and experiences while talking about the books. It’s very interesting.”
These friendships are not just fun—they also have many health benefits. Studies show that elderly people with strong friendships are less likely to feel lonely or depressed (抑郁的). They also have better physical health, because they are more active and take better care of themselves when they have friends to support them.
Many communities in China are now encouraging elderly people to make friends. They organise activities like tai chi classes, book clubs, and craft workshops. These activities give elderly people a chance to meet others and build new friendships. “We want to help elderly people live happy and healthy lives,” said a community worker. “Friendship is an important part of that.”
56.Where did Ms Wang meet her three friends?
57.When was the “book club” in Shanghai formed?

59.How can the elderly get more friends?
60.What can you do to help your grandparents feel less lonely?

Hey, Jane! Here I want to share my New Year’s resolutions with you.
As an old Chinese saying goes, “If we get ready, we can succeed. If not, we may fail.” First, I’ll improve my physical health by exercising three times a week and eating more healthy vegetables. Second, to improve my relationship with my parents, I plan to spend more time talking with them and help with housework. Finally, I’ll work harder at my studies by doing more exercises and asking teachers for help.
I believe I can achieve these resolutions with real effort.

A
Did anyone ask you, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” When I was young, people around me always asked me this question.

A.By writing as an editor. B.By broadcasting news on the radio.

23.What advice does the writer give?
A.Try different things. B.Live a simple life.
C.Pick one dream right away. D.Work in public.

As Kassy returned to her friends, Sarah realised something important: True courage wasn’t about fitting in (适应)—it was about being proud of who you were and where you came from.

A.Students should always take all exams seriously.
B.Students often feel worried before and after exams.
C.Students can learn life lessons during exam seasons.
D.Students should forget about exams after they are over.
31.Which of the following shows the right structure of the passage?
A.①②/③④/⑤⑥ B.①/②③/④⑤⑥ C.①②/③④⑤/⑥ D.①/②③④/⑤⑥

58.Why do Mr Chen and his friends read and discuss books at the community center?
59.How can the elderly get more friends?
60.What can you do to help your grandparents feel less lonely?
