Today, when you sit down for a burger or a taco, you are enjoying food with a long story. The hamburger did not start in America. It got its name from the German city of Hamburg, where sailors once ate a kind of cooked beef. Mexican immigrants brought tacos to the Southwest in the early 1900s, and it slowly became an American favorite. So American food is not one single cuisine. It is a mix of dishes that immigrants carried in their bags and their memories.
Q:The speaker mentions immigrants mainly to ______.
A. show why American food is diverse
B. describe their hard life in America
C. explain where tacos came from
mainly talk about, purpose, overall
What/Where/When/How many
信号词(first, then, at first, finally)后的实词
Why, because, to, so that
because, since, so, to do, in order to 后的信息
mention...to / purpose / why does the speaker mention...
What can we learn, imply, suggest
The speaker mentions tacos to ______.
It got its name from the German city of Hamburg.
It got its → /ɪt gɒt ɪts/,语流中近似 /ɪˈgɒts/(仅为听感示意,非正确拼写),其中的 /t/ 和 /ɪ/ 发生了连读和弱化,听起来像“I gots”(该拼写仅为听感示意,不可书写)。
...it took almost fifty years for pizza to spread across the whole country.
· 弱读:for → /fər/,to → /tə/
Italian immigrants brought pizza to New York in the early 1900s.
实际发音提示:/ɪˈtæljən ˈɪmɪɡrənts brɔːt ˈpiːtsə tə njuː jɔːk ɪn ði ˈɜːli ˌnaɪntiːn ˈhʌndrədz/
But, However, Actually, In fact, Unfortunately.
因果(考原因/目的):Because, Since, Due to, That's why, As a result, To do (不定式表目的).
First, Then, Next, Finally, At first, Later, In the end.
For example, Such as, Especially, In particular.
You may think of pizza as an American dish, but its story begins in Italy. In the late 1800s, large numbers of Italian immigrants came to New York City. Many of them were poor and worked long hours. For a quick and cheap meal, they began to sell pizza from small shops. At first, pizza was only popular with Italians. It took almost fifty years for pizza to spread across the whole country. Today, pizza is one of the most popular foods in America, and every region has its own style. The story of pizza shows how a simple dish can cross the ocean and become a symbol of a new nation.
1. What does the speaker mainly talk about?
A. How pizza is made in Italy
B. How pizza became an American favorite
C. Why New Yorkers love to eat out
· 横向比较选项:A讲“做法”(how made),B讲“变成最爱”(how became favorite),C讲“爱吃外卖”(why eat out)。
开头 story begins in Italy... came to New York,结尾 become a symbol of a new nation。
2. When did pizza first become popular in America?
A. In the early 1900s
B. In the late 1800s
C. In the 1950s
听的时候听到“In the late 1800s... came to New York”,很开心,选了B。
听到“In the late 1800s... came to” → 大脑标记:“这是‘来到’,标记一下,但先别选,继续听。”随后听到“At first... only popular with Italians... took almost fifty years... spread” → 开始计算:late 1800s + 50年 ≈ 1950s。
In the late 1800s... came to New York(来到)→ At first... only popular with Italians(起初只在圈子内流行)→ took almost fifty years... to spread(50年后传遍)。
计算:late 1800s + almost fifty years ≈ 1950s。
3. What does the speaker say about pizza at first?
A. It was only popular with Italians
B. It was sold only in Italy
C. It was too expensive for immigrants
答案:A
定位:信号词 At first。原文 At first, pizza was only popular with Italians。
(1) What are the speakers mainly talking about?
A. A traditional festival
B. A school sports meeting
C. A cooking class
(2) Where does the man want to go?
A. To a museum
B. To a restaurant
C. To a bookstore
(3) How many people will attend the dinner?
A. Three
B. Four
C. Five
(1) M: Are you going to the lantern festival tonight? W: Yes, I love watching the lanterns and eating tangyuan. My whole family will be there.
(2) W: Where would you like to have lunch? M: Let’s go somewhere we can try real Sichuan food.
(3) M: How many people are coming to the dinner tomorrow? W: Let me count. Mom and dad, my brother, and me. Oh, and grandma said she would come too.
选A。
Mom and dad(2)、my brother(3)、me(4)、grandma(5),共5人。选C。考的是防漏——数完四口人之后,别把收尾的“grandma said she would come too”这个尾巴落下。
Many Americans enjoy Mexican food, but few know how it crossed the border. Tacos became popular in the United States in the early 1900s, when Mexican workers brought them north. At first, taco shops were only found in the Southwest. Later, fast-food chains made tacos known to people all over the country. Today, you can find a taco restaurant in almost every American city. It is another example of how immigrant food becomes American food.
1. What is the talk mainly about?
A. How tacos spread across America
B. How to make Mexican tacos
C. Why Americans moved to Mexico
答案:A
开头 few know how it crossed the border,结尾 how immigrant food becomes American food。
2. Where were taco shops first found?
A. Across the whole country
B. In New York
C. In the Southwest
答案:C
定位:题干问 where + first。原文 At first, taco shops were only found in the Southwest
Immigrants have shaped American food in surprising ways. Take the hot dog, for example. German immigrants brought it to the United States in the late 1800s, and it became a hit at baseball games. But why is it called a "hot dog"? One story says that, in the early 1900s, a cartoonist saw a dachshund, a German dog, and joked that the sausage in the bun looked like the dog. From then on, the name stuck. Whatever the true story is, the hot dog shows how a cheap street food can carry the memory of another country.
1. When were hot dogs brought to the United States?
A. In the late 1800s
B. In the early 1900s
C. In the 2000s
答案:A
定位:题干 when + brought to。原文 German immigrants brought it to the United States in the late 1800s
2. Why is the food called a "hot dog" according to one story?
A. Because it was cooked over a hot fire
B. Because a cartoonist compared it to a dog
C. Because dogs love this food
One story says that... a cartoonist... joked that the sausage in the bun looked like the dog. From then on, the name stuck.——名字来自漫画家把香肠比作狗。
3. The speaker mentions the hot dog to show that ______.
A. German food is better than American food
B. baseball games are popular in America
C. cheap street food can carry cultural memory
原文结尾 the hot dog shows how a cheap street food can carry the memory of another country 直接给出了举例目的。
误选A的同学,是听到 hot dog became a hit at baseball games 就收了手——可题目问的是“提热狗为了证明什么”,不是“热狗出现在哪”。
【1. diverse /daɪˈvɜːs/ adj.
· a diverse group of people(形形色色的一群人)
· diverse cultures(多元文化)
· diversity n.
· diversify v.
The city is known for its cultural ______. (答案:diversity)
易混:diverse(多样的)vs. divorce(离婚),发音和拼写都不同,但形近易混,完形中若出现必须能区分。
【2. origin /ˈɒrɪdʒɪn/ n.
考查模型:the origin of... / originate from / in...
· the origin of...(……
· originate from / in...(起源于……,动词,常考)
· original adj.
· originally adv. 起初
写作考点:It originated in...
易混:origin(名词)vs. original(形容词)。
【3. immigrant /ˈɪmɪɡrənt/ n.
· immigrant / immigrate → 移入(im- = in)
· emigrant / emigrate → 移出(e- / ex- = out)
搭配:immigrant food(移民食物)、immigrant workers(移民工人)
【4. cuisine /kwɪˈziːn/ n.
American food is ______ because of ______ from many countries. For example, pizza has its ______ in Italy, but now it is a popular ______ in the US.
先读题,判题型,不同题型不同命;
主旨听首尾,细节跟信号,目的看功能;
听数字要归因,听因果找连词,听例子找总结;
You've probably eaten a fortune cookie after a meal at a Chinese restaurant, but did you know it's not actually Chinese? The cookie's true origin lies in Japan. In the early 1900s, a Japanese baker in California made a similar cookie with a fortune message inside. During World War II, many Japanese Americans were sent to camps, and Chinese bakers took over the cookie-making business. They changed the recipe slightly and served it in Chinese restaurants. Americans loved it, and soon it spread across the country. Today, fortune cookies are served in Chinese restaurants all over the world, but most people don't realize its Japanese roots. This story shows that food often travels a long and unexpected path before it becomes a symbol of a culture.
1. What is the talk mainly about?
A. The history of fortune cookies
B. How to make fortune cookies
C. The life of Japanese bakers in America
答案:A
开头 fortune cookie... not actually Chinese 引出话题,中间按时间展开起源→接手→传播,结尾 This story shows...
2. Where did fortune cookies originally come from?
A. China
B. Japan
C. America
答案:B
解析:题干 originally come from → 起源细节题。原文 The cookie’s true origin lies in Japan. In the early 1900s, a Japanese baker in California made a similar cookie。
3. When did a Japanese baker in California make a similar cookie with a fortune message inside?
A. In the early 1900s
B. During World War II
C. In the late 1800s
答案:A
When... Japanese baker... make a similar cookie → 时间细节题。原文 In the early 1900s, a Japanese baker in California made a similar cookie
4. Why did Chinese bakers start making fortune cookies?
A. To make more money
B. Because Japanese bakers had to leave
C. Because Americans preferred Chinese food
During World War II, many Japanese Americans were sent to camps, and Chinese bakers took over the cookie-making business。B是原文 Japanese Americans were sent to camps(日本烘焙师离开)的同义转述(had to leave),A和C均为无中生有。
5. What does the speaker mention fortune cookies to show?
A. That Chinese food is the most popular in America
B. That Japanese bakers were very creative
C. That food can have surprising origins
This story shows that food often travels a long and unexpected path before it becomes a symbol of a culture,核心是 unexpected path(意想不到的路径),即C的 surprising origins。

C. explain where tacos came from
My answer(我的答案):______
我听到“immigrants”时,大脑在找 ______(这个词本身 / 这个词在句子里做什么)。
mainly talk about, purpose, overall
What/Where/When/How many
信号词(first, then, at first, finally)后的实词
Why, because, to, so that
because, since, so, to do, in order to 后的信息
mention...to / purpose / why does the speaker mention...
What can we learn, imply, suggest
The speaker mentions tacos to ______.
It got its name from the German city of Hamburg.
It got its → /ɪt gɒt ɪts/,语流中近似 /ɪˈgɒts/(仅为听感示意,非正确拼写),其中的 /t/ 和 /ɪ/ 发生了连读和弱化,听起来像“I gots”(该拼写仅为听感示意,不可书写)。
1. 书面语:...it took almost fifty years for pizza to spread across the whole country.
因果(考原因/目的):Because, Since, Due to, That’s why, As a result, To do (不定式表目的).
C. Why New Yorkers love to eat out
· 横向比较选项:A讲“做法”(how made),B讲“变成最爱”(how became favorite),C讲“爱吃外卖”(why eat out)。
My answer(我的答案):______
2. When did pizza first become popular in America?
A. In the early 1900s
B. In the late 1800s
C. In the 1950s
听的时候听到“In the late 1800s... came to New York”,很开心,选了 ______。
听到“In the late 1800s... came to” → 大脑标记:“这是‘来到’,标记一下,但先别选,继续听。”随后听到“At first... only popular with Italians... took almost fifty years... spread” → 开始计算:late 1800s + 50年 ≈ ______。
My answer(我的答案):______
我的计算过程(late 1800s + almost fifty years ≈ ?):______
3. What does the speaker say about pizza at first?
A. It was only popular with Italians
B. It was sold only in Italy
C. It was too expensive for immigrants
My answer(我的答案):______

2. Where were taco shops first found?
A. Across the whole country
B. In New York
C. In the Southwest
1. My answer: ______ 2. My answer: ______
2. Why is the food called a "hot dog" according to one story?
A. Because it was cooked over a hot fire
B. Because a cartoonist compared it to a dog
C. Because dogs love this food
3. The speaker mentions the hot dog to show that ______.
A. German food is better than American food
B. baseball games are popular in America
C. cheap street food can carry cultural memory

1. My answer: ______ 2. My answer: ______ 3. My answer: ______
【1. diverse /daɪˈvɜːs/ adj.
· a diverse group of people(形形色色的一群人)
· diverse cultures(多元文化)
· diversity n.
· diversify v.
The city is known for its cultural ______.
My answer(我的答案):______
易混:diverse(多样的)vs. divorce(离婚),发音和拼写都不同,但形近易混,完形中若出现必须能区分。
【2. origin /ˈɒrɪdʒɪn/ n.
考查模型:the origin of... / originate from / in...
· the origin of...(……
· originate from / in...(起源于……,动词,常考)
· original adj.
· originally adv. 起初
写作考点:It originated in...
易混:origin(名词)vs. original(形容词)。
【3. immigrant /ˈɪmɪɡrənt/ n.
· immigrant / immigrate → 移入(im- = in)
· emigrant / emigrate → 移出(e- / ex- = out)
搭配:immigrant food(移民食物)、immigrant workers(移民工人)
【4. cuisine /kwɪˈziːn/ n.
American food is ______ because of ______ from many countries. For example, pizza has its ______ in Italy, but now it is a popular ______ in the US.
My answers(我的答案):______, ______, ______, ______
先读题,判题型,不同题型不同命;
主旨听首尾,细节跟信号,目的看功能;
听数字要归因,听因果找连词,听例子找总结;
You’ve probably eaten a fortune cookie after a meal at a Chinese restaurant, but did you know it’s not actually Chinese? The cookie’s true origin lies in Japan. Today, fortune cookies are served in Chinese restaurants all over the world, but most people don’t realize its Japanese roots. This story shows that food often travels a long and unexpected path before it becomes a symbol of a culture.
1. What is the talk mainly about?
A. The history of fortune cookies
B. How to make fortune cookies
C. The life of Japanese bakers in America
2. Where did fortune cookies originally come from?
A. China
B. Japan
C. America
3. When did a Japanese baker in California make a similar cookie with a fortune message inside?
A. In the early 1900s
B. During World War II
C. In the late 1800s
4. Why did Chinese bakers start making fortune cookies?
A. To make more money
B. Because Japanese bakers had to leave
C. Because Americans preferred Chinese food
5. What does the speaker mention fortune cookies to show?
A. That Chinese food is the most popular in America
B. That Japanese bakers were very creative
C. That food can have surprising origins
