A: Good morning, Jo. We are conducting this interview to get more people to know about volunteer work here, and inspire more people to help. Could you share with us your experience?
B: Sure. My pleasure.
A: You worked as a volunteer teacher in Papua New Guinea. Can you describe the conditions of the school and the students?
B: It’s a bush school. The school is very poor. There is no electricity or textbooks. The students are nice. Many walk a very long way to school.
A: That must be really difficult. So how did you feel? Did you feel frustrated?
B: Yes, sometimes I felt frustrated. Science teaching was hard. I even doubted if I could help them. But I tried my best.
A: I totally understand. You’ve paid visits to some families. What impressed you a lot?
B: I visited my student Tombe’s village. They live in simple bamboo huts. They have few things, but they are very friendly. I enjoyed staying with his family.
A: It’s really a special experience. What do you want to say to the would‑be volunteers?
B: Come and help these poor children. The work is hard, but you will learn a lot.
A: Thank you for your time.
