Value Our Friendship
Friendship plays an important role in our life. My best friend is Tom. He is tall and outgoing. He has black eyes and black hair. He is very thin. He is really more hard-working than me. I am good at English, but he does well in math. We like playing basketball. Both he and I like sports shows. Differences are not important in a friendship. We can respect and learn from each other. Although we have some differences, we are good friends. When we are in trouble, we care about each other. We always encourage each other, so I cherish this friendship very much. I think he’s a true friend.

If you have a brother or sister, you already know you are different. You live in the same house and with the same parents, but you have different personalities (性格). Why? The reasons are as follows.
Firstborn (第一胎生的) children get more love from their parents. Parents usually give firstborn children more responsibility (责任) and ask them to look after younger brothers or sisters. So, firstborn children are often responsible, hard-working and jealous (妒忌的). They often want to do well at school and work.
When a second child arrives, parents are more relaxed. The second child has to compete (竞争) with the firstborn for parents and love. These children often have different sports and interests to do well in at school and work, but they must have a new way to get their family’s care. They are often friendly and cool.
Do you think so?
24.Why are firstborn children often responsible?
A.Because they get more love from their parents.
B.Because they have to compete with the secondborn children.
C.Because their parents usually give them more responsibility.
25.What does the underlined word “They” in the second paragraph refer to (指代)?
A.Parents. B.Firstborn children. C.Younger brothers or sisters.
26.The secondborn children are often ________.
A.hard-working and jealous B.hard-working and friendly C.friendly and cool
27.What’s the structure (结构) of the passage? (P=Paragraph)
A. B. C.
C
Men and women often do things in different ways. Scientists are curious to know the reasons. Through some research on the human brain, they’ve discovered some interesting facts.
Generally, women’s brains make them notice and remember details (细节) more easily. They are more likely to think back to the smell in a room, the sound of a song, or the little things they see during the day. For example, a woman might easily remember what her friend wore last week. However, men’s brains are more focused on the task at hand. A man will pay more attention to a single (单一的) job until it’s fully finished. He might work on fixing a car without being influenced by other things.
These different thinking patterns also influence how they view their lives. Women usually see all sides of their lives as connected. If they have a bad day at work, it might influence their mood (情绪) at home. However, men usually see each part of their lives, like work, hobbies, and family, as separate (独立的) pieces.
In a team, men and women contribute (贡献) differently. Women are more likely to share ideas and build good relationships among team members. Men, on the other hand, prefer to arrange tasks and make everyone work effectively (有效地).
Although men and women have their differences, both ways of thinking are important. They help us solve different problems and answer all kinds of questions in life.
28.What does the underlined word “curious” mean in Paragraph 1?
A.Interested. B.Happy. C.Surprised.
29.What do men usually do in group tasks?
A.Share their ideas.
B.Hand out tasks and ensure good work.
C.Finish tasks in the least time.
30.What can we infer from the passage?
A.Men’s way of thinking is better than women’s.
B.Women’s way of thinking suits family problems.
C.We need both men’s and women’s ways of thinking to live better.
31.What’s the writer’s purpose (目的) of writing the text?
A.To show men and women are totally different.
B.To show the thinking differences between men and women.
C.To encourage men and women to learn from each other.

Alex and Sam are twin brothers. They live together. However, their lifestyles are quite different. Alex is organized and plans meals and workouts weeks in advance, while Sam often changes plans at the last minute.
32 Alex prefers cooking at home and seldom eats fast food. Sam orders takeout almost every day and dislikes meal prepared at home.
33 Alex studies for exams weeks ahead and takes detailed notes. Sam stays up late and relies on memory.
Also, they share a passion for music. 34 Alex prefers playing the piano, while Sam is a talented guitarist.
Their communication styles also differ. 35 Alex lists pros and cons in main points. Sam talks through ideas randomly (任意地) and often forgets key details.
Despite their differences, they balance each other. Their differences actually help each other. Alex’s structure keeps them on track, while Sam’s flexibility prevents their life from becoming too strict.

27.What’s the structure (结构) of the passage? (P=Paragraph)
A. B. C.
