It will begin at 10 a. m. on December 8th next Monday in the lecture hall. We students have many problems in English writing, such as limited vocabulary, frequent grammar mistakes as well as spelling errors, to name a few. Your guidance with some practical methods will surely benefit us a lot. We will be greatly grateful if you can accept this invitation. Looking forward to your earliest reply. Best wishes Li Hua 第二节 读后续写(满分25分) That night, I sat at my desk, notebook open and mind racing with details. I decided to design a gentle reminder app especially for the elderly. I listed simple functions: important dates, daily tasks, and warm notes. I focused on making the words big and the buttons easy to touch. Whenever I felt stuck, I thought of Mrs. Thompson’s kind smile and her wish for something to help her remember. I carefully tested every part again and again, making sure it was simple and helpful. Deep in my heart, I hoped this little app could bring convenience and warmth to her and more elderly people. A week later, I presented my project to Ms. Davis. I introduced the app’s purpose and showed how it worked. Ms. Davis praised my thoughtful idea and spoke highly of my project. After class, I brought the app to Mrs. Thompson. She was delighted and tried it at once. “This is exactly what I need,” she said happily. Watching her smile, I truly understood what Ms. Davis had meant: coding is not just code, but a way to use technology to care for others. A Help conserve beautiful Ocean Beach by joining us at a beach clean-up! After spending nearly all his life with one arm, Gowtham started looking for tools that could make his daily life easier. When he contacted Open Bionics, they were still working on the technology and he had to wait a year before his new bionic arm (仿生假臂) could finally be fitted. Within an hour of the new arm being attached, Gowtham was trying out tasks he had never been able to manage. He was able to walk his dog while holding a takeaway coffee at the same time. He could also hold tools and thin wires at his work table and open a soft drink. The lightweight bionic limb, called the Hero FLEX, was designed for the amputees. The 3D-printing technology means it can be designed to fit the user’s body. The arm gets connected to the muscles in the user’s shoulder so it can respond to their movements. What’s more, the bionic arm has different replaceable parts, depending on what you want to do. Users can fit special tools for hobbies or chores such as gardening, and after that switch back to a bionic hand for other activities. Gowtham said one of the most impressive things about the arm was how quickly it responded whenever he wanted to move it. Samantha Payne, one of the company’s founders, says they are excited about making the new technology available to more people. “We’re thrilled Praveen is the first person to take one home,” she said. Experts hope that advances such as 3D printing can help make bionic limbs more affordable and available to the people who have had their whole arm removed around the world. 4. Why did Gowtham look for a bionic arm? A. To improve blood flow. B. To make his life easier. C. To relieve his arm’s pain. D. To help him work better. 5. What does the underlined word “amputees” in paragraph 3 mean? A. People who have lost part of their bodies. B. People who invent new high-tech products. C. People who do research on human muscles. D. People who work for the bionic arm company. 6. What can we infer from the last paragraph? A. 3D printing will be used in every field soon. B. More people will benefit from new bionic limbs. C. Bionic limbs are cheap enough for everyone now. D. Praveen will help the company improve the bionic arm. 7. What is the best title for the passage? A. A Great Scientist with One Arm. B. Different Kinds of Artificial Limbs. C. The History of 3D-printing Technology. D. New Bionic Arm Changing a Man’s Life. 根据第一段中的“Gowtham started looking for tools that could make his daily life easier.(高塔姆开始寻找能让他日常生活更便利的工具。)” 根据画线词“amputees”前面的“The lightweight bionic limb(轻量化仿生肢体)”以及后句“The 3D-printing technology means it can be designed to fit the user’s body.(3D打印技术意味着相关产品可根据使用者的身形定制设计。)” 根据末段“Experts hope that advances such as 3D printing can help make bionic limbs more affordable and available to the people who have had their whole arm removed around the world.(专家们希望3D打印等技术进步能够降低仿生义肢的成本,让全球所有手臂截肢患者都能用上这类设备。)” 首段中的“After spending nearly all his life with one arm, Gowtham started looking for tools that could make his daily life easier. When he contacted Open Bionics, they were still working on the technology and he had to wait a year before his new bionic arm (仿生假臂) could finally be fitted.(高塔姆大半辈子都只有一只手臂,于是他开始寻找能让日常生活更便利的工具。他联系开放仿生公司时,该公司的相关技术仍在研发阶段,他等了整整一年,才终于装配上属于自己的新型仿生假臂。)”和第二段中的“Within an hour of the new arm being attached, Gowtham was trying out tasks he had never been able to manage.(装上新假肢不到一小时,高塔姆就能完成以往无法做到的各类事情。)” C A team of engineers in China has achieved something amazing. They have moved and returned a 7,500-ton historic building complex (建筑群) in Shanghai — with the help of tiny robots. The project began in 2023 when a company was tasked with building an underground shopping center, parking area, and subway lines under the Huayanli complex. Built in the 1920s, the three brick-and-wood buildings are classic examples of Shikumen-style architecture. Houses that mixed traditional Chinese courtyard designs and Western styles were once common across Shanghai. However, few of these buildings remain today, making their preservation important. To protect the buildings while clearing space for the work below, the team had to relocate them. But the buildings are weak and the streets are too narrow, which makes traditional moving methods — like using cranes and jacks impossible. The engineers needed a more creative solution. The team began with a detailed 3D scan of the site to produce exact plans of the relocation. Battery-powered drilling robots then worked around the buildings’ base, clearing soil to make space for the lifting robots below. The soil was removed using a network of conveyor belts. Next came 432 “walking” robots. Each was small enough to fit in a hand yet strong enough to lift 10 tons. They were carefully placed below the buildings. Working together, they moved the heavy buildings forward at a slow speed, about 10 meters per day. In total, the buildings were relocated about 48 meters to the west and 46 meters to the north, clearing the way for the work underground. After the basic underground work was finished, it was time to move the buildings back. The return journey began on May 19, 2025. Over the next twenty days, the robots slowly moved the buildings into place, finishing the task on June 7, 2025. With the buildings safely returned, work on the underground project continues. The effort emphasizes how modern technology can preserve historic architecture — even during major urban (城区) development. 8. Why was the historic building complex moved? A. To build underground facilities. B. To test the performance of tiny robots. C. To combine traditional Chinese and Western styles. D. To repair the brick-and-wood structure of the buildings. 9. What can we know about the relocation work? A. A small walking robot can lift 10 tons. B. Lifting robots dug soil around the base of the buildings. C. The buildings were moved about 10 meters at a slow speed. D. 3D scanning technology was used to monitor the whole plan. 10. What does the underlined word “emphasizes” mean in the last paragraph? A. Proposes. B. Predicts. C. Stresses. D. Assesses. 11. What is the best title for the text? A. Culture Hidden in Narrow Streets B. A Creative Way to Relocate Historic Buildings C. How 3D Scanning Improves Construction Plans D. Tiny Robots Reconstruct Old Shanghai Buildings 【答案】8.A 9.A 10.C 11.B 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。 根据第一段中“They have moved and returned a 7,500-ton historic building complex (建筑群) in Shanghai — with the help of tiny robots.(他们在微型机器人的协助下,平移并归位了上海一栋7500吨的历史建筑群)”以及第二段“The project began in 2023 when a company was tasked with building an underground shopping center, parking area, and subway lines under the Huayanli complex.(该项目始于2023年,当时一家公司的任务是在华严里建筑群下方修建地下购物中心、停车场和地铁线路)”可知,移动古建筑是为了修建地下设施。 9. 根据第四段中“Next came 432 “walking” robots. Each was small enough to fit in a hand yet strong enough to lift 10 tons.(接下来是432个“行走”机器人。每一个小到可以放在手掌中,却强壮到足以举起10吨的重量)”可知,小型行走机器人的起重能力为10吨。 10.词句猜测题。根据最后一段中“The effort emphasizes how modern technology can preserve historic architecture — even during major urban development.(这一努力emphasizes现代技术如何在重大城市发展过程中保护历史建筑)”可知,此次成功的工程实例有力地证明了科技在文物保护中的作用。 B“A Creative Way to Relocate Historic Buildings.(一种迁移历史建筑的创造性方法)”准确概括了文章核心内容,适合作为标题。 D A tiny microchip implanted (植入) in the back of the eye has helped blind patients regain the ability to read. The device, developed by Stanford Professor Daniel Palanker, is designed for people with AMD — a common cause of incurable blindness in older adults. The disease slowly destroys light-sensing cells in the central part of the retina (视网膜), leading to loss of central vision. Sheila Irvine, a 70-year-old woman from England, lost her sight due to AMD.As a keen bookworm, she missed reading deeply. “Reading, that’s in my DNA,” she says. When she heard about a clinical trial (试验), she volunteered. During a two-hour operation, a doctor implanted a SIM-card-sized chip called PRIMA under the center of her retina. The chip uses photovoltaic technology. It changes light into electrical current, which activates inner retinal nerve cells to send signals to the brain. The chip works with a pair of special glasses equipped with a video camera. The camera takes images and turns them into light that cannot be seen. It is then transmitted to the implant. Patients learn to translate these light signals as black-and-white patterns. The trial included 38 patients from five European countries, all with advanced AMD.Of the 32 who completed one year, 27 regained the ability to read letters, numbers and words using the glasses. Some patients even achieved vision as good as 20/42 after one year. Irvine says the implant has changed her life. “It was dead exciting when I began seeing a letter. Now I read most days,” she says. She still sees people as dark shapes, though. “The next-generation chip may allow facial recognition and possibly color recognition,” notes Professor Palanker. 12. Why did Irvine volunteer for the clinical trial? A. To develop her hobby. B. To test the microchip. C. To cure her eye disease. D. To regain her eyesight. 13. How does the microchip work? A. It sends black-and-white patterns to the brain. B. It turns light into electricity to excite retinal cells. C. It uses a video camera to change images into signals. D. It repairs damaged parts with a pair of special glasses. 14. How does the author show the effectiveness of the PRIMA implant? A. By sharing a personal story. B. By presenting trial result data. C. By quoting experts’ opinions. D. By comparing it with other devices. 15. What is the focus of Professor Palanker’s words? A. The key innovation of the technology. B. The current problem of the glasses. C. The future improvement of the device. D. The potential application of the chip. 根据第二段中的“Sheila Irvine, a 70-year-old woman from England, lost her sight due to AMD. As a keen bookworm, she missed reading deeply.(70岁的英国女士希拉·欧文因黄斑变性失明。作为一名酷爱读书的人,她极度怀念阅读。)”可知,欧文自愿参加临床试验,是希望借助新技术恢复视力、重新阅读。 13.细节理解题。根据第三段中的“It changes light into electrical current, which activates inner retinal nerve cells to send signals to the brain.(它将光线转化为电流,激活视网膜内部神经细胞,进而向大脑发送信号。)” 根据第四段中的“Of the 32 who completed one year, 27 regained the ability to read letters, numbers and words using the glasses. Some patients even achieved vision as good as 20/42 after one year.(在完成一年随访的32名患者中,有27人借助这款眼镜重新获得了认读字母、数字和文字的能力。部分患者一年后的视力甚至达到了20/42。)”可知,作者通过列举临床试验的具体数据,直观展示该植入芯片的治疗效果。 15.推理判断题。根据第五段中的“The next-generation chip may allow facial recognition and possibly color recognition,” notes Professor Palanker.(帕兰克教授指出,下一代芯片或将实现人脸识别甚至色彩识别功能。)” How Body Language Can Help Your Career Many businessmen often underestimate the importance of nonverbal communication — which is often half the message.____16____Imagine how much more effective your next meeting with your boss could be if only you give your nonverbal communication a little attention. These four tips can help you avoid that common mistake so you can use your body language to gain an advantage in your career. Triple Nod to Show You’re Engaged ____17____One way you can do this non-verbally is to use the triple head nod. Three quick, small nods in a row is the nonverbal sign for “tell me more” or “I hear you, explain.” It is a great way to show that you are interested and involved. Don’t Underestimate the Power of the Hands Our hands speak volumes about who we are. Our brain pays attention to hands more than any other body part because we have evolved to look at them as a safety tool to make sure people won’t attack us. Whenever you have meetings, keep your hands above the table.____18____ Stop Using Nervous Behaviors Learn to stop displaying nervous body language so you don’t risk appearing anxious or incompetent. The most common behaviors are: wringing hands, rubbing arms, biting lips.____19____ Ask a friend to tell you if they notice you’re displaying any of the above behaviors. Once you know what they are, you can take actions to stop them. Mirror Other People Professionals who mirror clients’ body language are more successful than those who don’t. If you’re a fast-talker, slowing down your speech to match the person you’re talking to helps put you on the same level.____20____Copying someone’s closed off body language or negative tone will only increase the tension between you. A. Of course, only follow positive behaviors. B. Hold your body in a similar way as they do. C. Show you are interested in the people you speak with. D. Focus on keeping your body there unless you need to use it. E. You’ll be able to use the crucial tool for delivering messages. F. Sometimes it can be hard to identify what your signs of anxiety are. G. Most people plan what they will say, but they ignore their body language. 上文“Many businessmen often underestimate the importance of nonverbal communication — which is often half the message. (许多商人往往低估了非言语沟通的重要性,而非言语沟通往往是信息的一半)”讲到商人在说话时往往只注重说什么而忽略了肢体语言,下文“Imagine how much more effective your next meeting with your boss could be if only you give your nonverbal communication a little attention. 17.由小标题“Triple Nod to Show You’re Engaged (三次点头表明你被吸引了)”和下文“Three quick, small nods in a row is the nonverbal sign for “tell me more” or “I hear you, explain.” It is a great way to show that you are interested and involved. 18.由小标题“Stop Using Nervous Behaviors (不要低估手的力量)”和上文“Our hands speak volumes about who we are. Our brain pays attention to hands more than any other body part because we have evolved to look at them as a safety tool to make sure people won’t attack us. Whenever you have meetings, keep your hands above the table. 19.上文“Learn to stop displaying nervous body language so you don’t risk appearing anxious or incompetent. The most common behaviors are: wringing hands, rubbing arms, biting lips. 最常见的行为是:扭着手、揉胳膊、咬嘴唇)”例举了让你感到焦虑或无能的紧张的肢体语言有哪些,下文“Ask a friend to tell you if they notice you’re displaying any of the above behaviors. Once you know what they are, you can take actions to stop them. 20.与下文“Copying someone’s closed off body language or negative tone will only increase the tension between you. (模仿别人封闭的肢体语言或负面语气只会增加你们之间的紧张关系)” 形成对比,结合上文“If you’re a fast-talker, slowing down your speech to match the person you’re talking to helps put you on the same level. 故选A项。 For many students, science projects are not just assignments but opportunities to solve real-world problems. I’ve always been passionate about exploring and solving problems — whether fixing a broken toy or figuring out how a phone app works. This led me to join our school’s Coding (编程) Club. In our first lesson, Ms. Davis told us that coding is more than writing lines of code. It is about using technology to make life easier for others. “Your project,” she announced in class one day, “is to create a simple app that solves a real-life problem.” “You have one week to prepare,” she added gently, hoping this would give us enough time to find inspiration and finish the project. The challenge stayed with me as I walked to my neighbor Mrs. Thompson’s apartment after school. She had invited me for tea, as she often did on Tuesdays. Mrs. Thompson was kind and cheerful, but lately she had been a little forgetful, often misplacing her keys or repeating the same story twice without realizing it. When I arrived, she was in the kitchen. “Mae! Good timing,” she greeted me warmly, and then stopped, glancing at the kettle. “Did I already boil water for tea?” I checked the kettle — it was still warm. We laughed about it as I poured water, and soon we were chatting. Our conversation turned to her weekly book club with friends. Mrs. Thompson smiled, talking about her two old friends. Mr. Brown arrived late for the game, and Mrs. Smith failed to bring her glasses twice. “We’re quite a group,” she said. Then her expression grew thoughtful. “We manage, of course. But sometimes I think wouldn’t it be nice if something simply reminds us? Take medicine. Water the plants. Friday for book club.” She tapped her head with a soft laugh. Her words sank in. At that moment, an idea formed in my mind. As I stood up to leave, I smiled mysteriously, “Give me a few days, and I’ll bring you a little surprise.” “Oh? I’ll try not to forget that,” she laughed. That night, I sat at my desk, notebook open and mind racing with details. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ A week later, I presented my project to Ms. Davis. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 【导语】本文讲述学生从邻居的实际困难中获得灵感,运用编程知识开发实用应用程序,在解决问题的过程中体会科技的温度。 That night, I sat at my desk, notebook open and mind racing with details. B Praveen Gowtham, a 43-year-old scientist, had his right arm removed when he was just eight days old after developing a problem that affected the blood supply in his arm. 5. Tiny Robots Reconstruct Old Shanghai Buildings D A tiny microchip implanted (植入) in the back of the eye has helped blind patients regain the ability to read. 12. Davis. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ !/ 101/ 10 1 / 12 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
