$The spring festival, also called chinese new year, is one of china's biggest and most important festivals. IT starts on the first day of the lunar calendar, usually in january or february. The spring festival is more than just a holiday. It's a time for fresh starts and family gatherings. Long ago, the spring festival started because of an old story about a monster named an who was scared of the color red and loud sounds. People used firecrest racers and red things to scare nian away. That's why using firewall ackers and hanging red couple lets became a tradition. During the spring festival, every family cleaned their house really well to sweep away the old and welcome the new. After cleaning, they hang red lanterns, and red couple lets that have good wishes written on them. Everyone wears new clothes, especially red ones, because red is a lucky color in chinese culture. On chinese new year's eve, which is the night before the chinese new year, families have a big dinner together. They eat fish dumplings and rice cakes. Fish means having more than enough every year. Dumplings look like ancient treasures and symbolize wealth. Rice cakes mean getting higher or doing Better each year. During the spring festival, kids love getting red envelope pes with money from older family members. This is a way to share good luck and blessings. People also set off fireworks to celebrate the new year and to chase away bad things. The spring festival isn't just for fun. It's also about families coming together and sharing love and kindness during this festival. No matter where people are, they try to go home and be with their families. This shows how much family means in chinese culture and how everyone looks forward to the new year with hope.
