①In summer, people use their fans to cool themselves off. But the Chinese fan is not just a tool to help people cool themselves down. It’s an important part of Chinese culture.
②Chinese fans have a history of over 3,000 years. One of the earliest known “fans” was named shanhan (扇汗). They weren’t like the fans we see today. People used them to hide from the sun and protect themselves from the rain on a horse-drawn carriage (马车). Shanhan then changed into a long-handled fan called zhangshan (障扇). This type of fan was made of silk or bird feathers and was mainly used by the emperor’s honour guard (仪仗队) for decoration.
③In the Han Dynasty, more common people started using fans because cheaper bamboo fans had been made. These fans stayed popular until the Tang and Song Dynasties. At the same time, a new type of silk fan was also brought in. Young women loved silk fans because they were round, resembling the moon. They were also called “round fans” or tuanshan.
④The ribs (扇骨) of these silk round fans were made of bamboo or animal bones. The handles of the fans usually had different designs. The main part of the fan often had calligraphy (书法) works and painted scenes, like mountains or flowers. Folding fans mainly had panels (扇面) and ribs. For the ribs, people used different kinds of materials, including wood, animal bones and bamboo. The panels of the folding fan were usually made of paper, silk or other materials. They left empty spaces for calligraphers and artists. Their calligraphy works and painted scenes added colour to the fans.
⑤From the Song Dynasty, fan painting became a special kind of art. Fans with pictures of birds and flowers were popular among young women. Men, however, liked fans decorated with calligraphy works. Mythical (神话的) creatures were also popular. Dragons were often painted onto men’s fans while ladies usually preferred phoenixes (凤凰).

2.Why did fans become popular among common people?
A.Because more people learned to make fans.
B.Because cheaper bamboo fans were made.
C.Because a new type of silk fan was brought in.
D.Because people wanted to cool themselves down in summer.
3.What does the underlined word “resembling” in the third paragraph mean?
A.cutting out B.looking like C.turning into D.making up
4.Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.

Do you ever go shopping at the supermarket with your family? Next time, you can be a great helper and smart shopper. There is a new rule that makes the pure (纯) milk we drink even better than before. So, how do you find the best milk for your family? This guide will teach you a very useful skill. It’s easy and fun, like a food detective (侦探). Let’s learn the secrets to choosing the healthiest and freshest milk on the shelf.
First, you need to know about a big change. In the past, some milk was made by adding water to milk powder (奶粉). This milk was okay, but it wasn’t the freshest. Now, the new rule is very simple: all milk with “Pure Milk” written on the carton must be made from 100% fresh milk. This fresh milk comes directly from healthy cows on a farm. Because it is not made from powder, it keeps more of the natural good things inside, like vitamins, that help our bodies grow strong.
So, here is your job at the supermarket. The first step is to look for cartons that clearly say “Pure Milk”. This is your first clue (线索). After you find one, it’s time for the second, secret step. Turn the carton and look for a special code (编码). This code is a line of numbers and letters, and it is GB 25190. This number is very important. It is like a special promise that the milk inside is truly fresh. If you see this code, you will find the best choice!
When you find a milk carton with this code, you can proudly show it to your parents. You can tell them, “Look! I found the real pure milk!” They will be very happy and proud of you. Knowing how to read the information on food packages is a great skill. It helps your family stay healthy. Now you are not just a kid who goes shopping, but a smart milk detective!
1.Which of the following advantages (优点) will the pure milk have under the new rule?
①much fresher ②with more powder ③with more vitamins ④more delicious ⑤make us stronger
A.①②⑤ B.①③⑤ C.②③⑤ D.②③④
2.The underlined word “It” in the last paragraph refers to ________.
A.being a smart milk detective
B.finding a milk carton with a special code
C.finding the real pure milk at the supermarket
D.knowing how to read the information on food packages
3.Which can be the best title for the article?
A.How to Find Special Code B.What Is Best Pure Milk Like
C.How to Choose Best Pure Milk D.What Big Change about Milk Powder
【答案】1.B 2.D 3.C
【导语】本文是一篇关于挑选牛奶的实用生活指南。
1.第2段:“...must be made from 100% fresh milk. ... Because it is not made from powder, it keeps more of the natural good things inside, like vitamins, that help our bodies grow strong.”
2.最后一段:“Knowing how to read the information on food packages is a great skill. It helps your family stay healthy.” 结合语境,前一句提到“知道如何阅读食品包装上的信息是一项很棒的技能”,紧接着说“它(It)能帮助你的家人保持健康”。由此可知,“It”指代的是前半句所表述的整个动作事件,即“knowing how to read the information on food packages”。
(How to Choose Best Pure Milk)”是最贴切的标题。
In India, some children often work at railway stations to help their parents. It is difficult for them to go to school as they work during the day. But thanks to train platform schools, these children can now get an education.
At train platform schools, the children don’t go to school. Instead, teachers come to the railway stations where the children work. The children arrive early in the morning, work for a few hours, then start classes at 8 a.m. They sit on the platform with classmates to learn different subjects, including Maths, Art, and English, and so on. They also study practical subjects, for example, they have lessons in nutrition (营养) and how to help people if they are ill. These subjects are useful for their home life. Around 11:15, they have lunch, then the school day ends at noon. Students play games together before returning to work later in the afternoon.
Train platform schools don’t have computers, so students get information by asking teachers or looking in books. There’s no library either—the teachers bring everything with them. School trips are also impossible here. Of course, the teachers at train platform schools are volunteers—they work for free.
The first such school opened in 1985. Today, there are many across India, with thousands of students. The teachers believe every child should have the chance to learn. As they put it: if a child can’t go to school, the school must come to the child.
1.Why is it difficult for some Indian children to go to school?
A.Children live far away from school.
B.They dislike the school at railway stations.
C.They work during the day at railway stations.
D.Their parents don’t allow them to go to school.
2.Which of the following is NOT true about train platform schools?
A.They have a big library. B.They have no computers.
C.Teachers are volunteers. D.There are no school trips.
3.What do the teachers think about children’s education?
A.Education is not important for children who are working.
B.Only children who can go to school should get education.
C.The school must come to the child who can’t go to school.
D.Children should go to school even if they have to stop working.
【答案】1.C 2.A 3.C

2.第三段中提到“Train platform schools don’t have computers” (B正确)、“teachers at train platform schools are volunteers” (C正确)、“School trips are also impossible here.” (D正确),但文中提到“There‘s no library either”,所以它们没有图书馆,选项A“They have a big library.”是错误的,是答案。
3.最后一段中提到老师们的理念“if a child can’t go to school, the school must come to the child.”,选项C正确。
How do you feel when you have to make a speech in front of class? Do you get really shy?
Shyness means feeling nervous with others around. Over 80% of teenagers feel afraid to be the centre of attention. Some kids are born shy. Some become shy later because of their life experiences.
It’s OK if it takes you some time to feel like yourself again when you go to a new place or meet new people. In fact, everybody gets a little shy sometimes.
Most people have red faces and talk in broken sentences when they get shy. But some become so shy that they won’t go to a restaurant because they are too nervous to order and pay the bill. Some fear to meet new people, so they seldom go outside. This kind of shyness can be bad for a person.
If shyness doesn’t stop you from doing anything you want to do, being shy isn’t a big problem. Some experts (专家) say shy people are quieter and cleverer because they think more and talk less. Shy people are also good at working with others because they think more for other people. Some great people in history were shy, too.
You see, being shy isn’t all bad. But remember not to let good chances pass by just because of it! If you have to practice your spoken English, just do it. Don’t be afraid.
1.How does the writer start the passage?
A.By using sayings. B.By asking questions. C.By telling the truth. D.By giving examples.
2.Which of the following is an example of bad shyness?
A.Having a red face when speaking in public.
B.Feeling a little nervous at a new place at first.
C.Talking in broken sentences when feeling shy.
D.Not going outside because of fear of meeting new people.
3.Why do some experts think shy people are quieter and cleverer?
A.Because they are born that way.
B.Because they don’t like to talk with others.
C.Because they are not good at expressing themselves.
D.Because they are too shy to talk much and they think more.
4.What’s the best title for this passage?
A.Being shy, good or bad? B.Be active before others
C.Find out what you’re like D.Don’t be shy before others

Do you think studying is a little boring? But when you watch someone else study, do you want to join them? You’re not the only one. “Study with Me” is a new way you can try. The reason is simple: watching others study makes us want to do the same.
“Study with Me” is a kind of live broadcast (现场直播) on the Internet. Usually, it shows a person studying. Sometimes it’s quiet, and sometimes there is soft music. It makes viewers feel like they have a study partner. It also lets people focus together, share the same experience, and feel part of a group. Studying together can make learning more fun. That’s why these study broadcasts are getting more popular. More and more students around the world are interested in them.
So why does watching someone else study make us want to study too? Scientists say it’s a natural habit for humans. We often copy the things people around us do. This is called mimicry(模仿). When we watch someone study, we may copy how they take notes, use the same study tools, or even take breaks at the same time. Also, we all need support from others. The people on the screen are like our “secret study partners”. When we see them working hard, we feel like we’re on a team. This encourages us not to give up when tasks are hard.
“Study with Me” can help you, but there are some things to remember. First, before you join an online study group, set clear study goals. This helps you focus on your own work. Second, don’t depend on it too much. Sometimes you need to learn by yourself. Finally, try to study with people you can trust. They should have a good, organized study plan.
With the development of AI, ways of learning are always changing. They bring us new and exciting learning experiences. “Study with Me” is a great example. It helps people work closely together and encourages students to enjoy their learning journey—with focus, fun, and friendship.
1.What is a “Study with Me” broadcast?
A.A TV show about school life. B.An online video of a person studying.
C.A radio program with soft music. D.A book that teaches how to study.
2.What might happen when you watch a “Study with Me” broadcast?
A.You will learn the best way to take notes.
B.You might feel like you are part of a group.
C.The person on the screen will become your real friend.
D.You will never need to study by yourself again.
3.What does the underlined sentence “don’t depend on it too much” in Paragraph 4 tell us?
A.“Study with Me” is not a very good idea.
B.It is also important to be able to study by yourself.
C.You should sometimes turn off the music in the broadcast.
D.These broadcasts often have technical problems.
4.What does the writer think of the future of learning at the end of the passage?
A.It is difficult and challenging. B.It focuses only on AI teachers.

Have you ever looked at a honeycomb and wondered why it’s made of perfect six-sided shapes? Or why the seeds in a sunflower form such beautiful patterns? The answer lies not only in nature, but also in math. Math is more than just numbers—it’s like a hidden rule waiting to be found all around us in nature.
Let’s take bees as an example. These small insects are very good at using math. When they build their honeycombs, they need to use as little material as possible to store the most honey. After a long time of evolution (演变), they found the best shape: the hexagon (六边形). If we compare this shape to others like squares or triangles, we find that the hexagon uses the least wax to hold the most honey. This shows us how math helps solve real-life problems in nature.
Another interesting example is the Fibonacci sequence (斐波那契数列). It’s a special number pattern where each number is the sum of the two numbers before it: 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, and so on. We can see this pattern in many places in nature such as sunflowers and pineapples. It allows the seeds to be put closely together while still giving them enough space to grow.
From the shape of a snail’s shell to the way planets move in space, math helps explain many things in the natural world. So the next time you study math in school, remember that you’re not just learning for tests. You’re actually discovering the hidden rules that help us organize our world!
1.How does the author begin the article?
A.By explaining a math rule. B.By telling a story about bees.
C.By showing beautiful sunflowers. D.By asking questions about nature.
2.What can we learn about the Fibonacci sequence in paragraph 3?
A.It often shows up in nature. B.It is used in honeycombs.
C.It helps plants grow quickly. D.It is only found in sunflowers.
3.Why should we learn math according to the last paragraph?
A.To get good grades in school. B.To solve problems like bees do.
C.To understand the world’s hidden rules. D.To find number patterns in nature.
4.What is the best title for this text?
A.How to Use the Fibonacci Sequence B.Learning Math Well for Good Grades
C.The Interesting Life of Bees and Flowers D.The Hidden Math in Our Natural World
【答案】1.D 2.A 3.C 4.D

①Did you know that when you surf the web, websites in some countries put secret software on your computer? The software collects a large amount of information about you and sends it to internet companies. The internet companies sell it to other businesses. Your personal information can also be gathered from social media sites. There are many ways your information can be used.
②First, these companies collect your information and record all your online habits. They find out where you live, what websites you visit and what you do online. With this information, they can guess other things about you. For example, they can guess if you are a male or female, how old you are and your interests. They use the information to decide which ads are best for you. Two people can go to the same website, but they will see different ads. For example, someone who likes sports could see ads for trainers, and someone who likes films might see ads for a film.
③Your personal information could also be sold. Some companies collect information, so they can sell it to other businesses. A business that collects and sells personal information is called a data broker. When data brokers sell your information, a lot of different companies will know your online habits. Then the companies will advertise products from other websites to you.
④Another way your personal information can be collected is through social media. When your information is on social media, a lot of people can see it. Even if you don’t use social media, a friend might post a picture or video of you with your name on it. Pictures and videos can be shared for free on social media, which is one of the great advantages. However, that same act of sharing could be a problem for your own security (安全). If someone knows too much about you, they steal (偷窃) your identity. Then they can buy things online and post messages while pretending (假装) to be you.
⑤________ The law is finally changing when it comes to technology. In the European Union, for example, they have introduced the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This rule means that internet users can now ask companies to show them what information they have about them and even make them delete it. If other countries do the same, the internet could soon be a much safer place.
1.According to Paragraph 2, what will the companies find by collecting your information?
a.age and hobbies b.online activities c.address d.job
A.bcd B.abd C.acd D.abc
2.Which of the following statements is WRONG?
A.Data brokers can make money by selling personal information to other businesses.
B.No one can get your information if your friend posts a video of you with your name on it.
C.According to GDPR, we can ask companies to delete our personal information they have collected online.
D.Different people can see different ads on the same website because their online habits have been gathered.
3.Which sentence is the most suitable for the beginning of the last paragraph?
A.However, it’s not all bad news.
B.Anyway, every coin has two sides.
C.Actually, different people have different opinions.
D.Indeed, people believe things are changing for the worse.
4.Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage?
A.①② / ③④⑤ B.① / ②③④ / ⑤
C.① / ②③ / ④⑤ D.①② / ③④ / ⑤
【答案】1.D 2.B 3.A 4.B
【导语】本文主要介绍了个人信息被网站、社交媒体收集的方式与滥用情况,以及GDPR等法律对网络信息安全的改善。
1.细节理解题。根据第二段中“First, these companies collect your information and record all your online habits. They find out where you live, what websites you visit and what you do online. With this information, they can guess other things about you.”可知,公司通过收集信息可以直接发现你的地址和在线活动,并可以猜测你的年龄和兴趣。故选D。
2.细节理解题。根据第四段中“Even if you don’t use social media, a friend might post a picture or video of you with your name on it. Pictures and videos can be shared for free on social media, which is one of the great advantages. However, that same act of sharing could be a problem for your own security (安全).”
根据第五段中“The law is finally changing when it comes to technology. In the European Union, for example, they have introduced the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This rule means that internet users can now ask companies to show them what information they have about them and even make them delete it. If other countries do the same, the internet could soon be a much safer place.” 故选A。
Why does one plus one equal two? Many teachers would say, “It just does.” However, some children are not happy with the answer.
This type of answer makes math feel like a world of rules that we must follow. How boring! As a math researcher, I don’t like rules. Instead of just believing that one plus one equals two, let’s think more and question if it’s always true.
Sometimes, one plus one can equal more than two. If you have enough money for one cup of coffee, and so does your friend, you might buy three cups together. But if you each have, for example, 1.5 times the amount(数量)of money for a cup of coffee, you can only buy one cup on your own.
If you put one pile (堆)of sand on top of another, you just get one pile of sand. Or as an art student once told me, if you mix one color with another, you only get one new color.
And sometimes, one plus one is zero. If I say, “I’m not not hungry,” that means “I’m hungry.” Here, one “not” plus another is the same as having no “not” at all.
You might think this isn’t math because we are not talking about numbers. But the point of learning math isn’t just to get the right numbers. Instead, it’s to understand the world better. In the math research, we often try to find out when a rule works and when it doesn’t.
I hope we can see math as a place to ask questions and look for possible answers, not just a place where rules are all set in stone.
1.Why are some children not happy with the answer “It just does.”?
A.Because they don’ t like learning math. B.Because they want to change the teachers.
C.Because they think the answer isn’t interesting. D.Because they are not happy with the question.
2.What can we learn from the third paragraph?
A.It explains how to learn math well. B.It shows one plus one can be more than two.
C.It tells the importance of money in our life. D.It teaches us how to buy coffee for our friends.
3.Which sentence should go in the empty box in paragraph 4?
A.Sometimes, one plus one is just one. B.Sometimes, one plus one is only zero.

Everyone learns differently—some people understand better by seeing, some by doing, and others by listening. Finding your suitable learning style makes studying easier and more efficient (高效的). Here are four simple ways to help find the best one for you.
First, try visual learning. Visual learners learn well by seeing and watching. You can watch in-person or online demos, like a Bilibili video on fixing a broken pipe. Other visual methods include using maps, drawings, or note cards. These let you “see” information clearly and remember it easily.
Second, test hands-on learning. Tactile (hands-on) learners learn best by doing. For example, if you study a city’s history, visit places of interest like the Palace Museum in Beijing. You can also interview people or do experiments (实验), like growing a plant for science. Direct action helps you catch ideas quickly.
Third, check auditory learning. Auditory learners learn through listening. To test this style, use audio books or taped lectures (录音讲座). You can also talk with classmates about topics. Hearing and discussing help you remember key points.
Finally, don’t forget to take an online test. After trying the three styles above, taking 1 or 2 quizzes can help: check if the quiz result matches the style you think works best for you.
In short, these methods help you find your best learning style. Then you may study smarter and get better results.
1.What can visual learners do to know the Great Wall best?
A.Paying a visit to it during the holiday.

C.By asking questions. D.By comparing ideas.
3.Which of the following can we infer (推断) about auditory learners from the passage?
A.They need to listen to the same audio 10 times to remember it.
B.They can only learn well by listening to pre-recorded materials.
C.They will always get higher scores in English listening tests.
D.They may find it easier to remember a story by listening to it.
4.What is the structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.

We all want to be liked. Sometimes, this means we might say or do something that doesn’t feel right because we want to make someone else happy. However, it’s important to learn how to be truer to ourselves and become comfortable saying “no”. This is called setting boundaries (边界).
Setting boundaries is being honest and respectful about what you like and dislike. That means you will feel more comfortable to live in ways that express your true feelings. Dr Rekha Vara, a clinical psychologist who helps people care for their mental (心理的) health, shares her study that you can think of boundaries as a range (范围). Vara says, “The middle of this range is the healthy space. That’s the best, not too rigid (死板的) or too lazy. It’s not good to prevent ourselves from getting close to people. And it’s not healthy if you want to make everyone happy.”
Setting boundaries allows you to “protect” yourself. They help you feel safe and respected. If you don’t have boundaries, some people may make you uncomfortable because they don’t know or understand what is and isn’t acceptable (可接受的). Vara says making others happy “can become a habit”, and then they hope you can do what they want every time. It’s also important to remember that you don’t have to tell others clearly about your boundaries—there’s nothing wrong with saying “no”.
Learning to set boundaries also helps us to respect other people’s boundaries and develop healthy relationships. Everyone’s boundaries are different and that’s OK. The things that are not a big deal to you might be important to others. Vara says, “You might not be too worried about seeing the film your friend picked because you enjoy being with your friends. Another friend might choose not to come because they are worried about the film choice. It’s important to find a balance in our friendships so that we should be open towards others and protective of ourselves, too.”
1.How does the writer start the passage?
A.By telling stories. B.By asking questions.
C.By using a saying. D.By showing something in common.

A.I like this movie, so you have to watch it with me.
B.It’s all up to you, and I will do whatever you want.
C.We have different ideas about this and that’s not OK.
D.That sounds fun for you, but I’m not comfortable about that.
4.Which of the following might be the best title for the passage?

A lot of people with mobile phones often drop them in water. And many of them think putting a wet phone in a bag of uncooked rice can make the phone okay again. But Apple says this is a bad idea. Small parts of rice can get inside the phone and break it.
If your phone falls into water, here’s what you should do. First, take it out of the water quickly. Then, use a clean cloth to dry it. You can even use your shirt. Try to turn the phone off. If you can, take out the SIM card and the phone’s case (手机保护壳).
Let the phone dry at room temperature. You can turn on a fan to help it dry faster. Samsung, a big phone-making company, says you can use a cotton swab (棉签) to get water out of the small holes in the phone. But Apple says you shouldn’t do this.
If your phone falls into seawater or a drink, Samsung says you should put it in clean water for a few minutes. This will wash away the salt or other things.
Both Apple and Samsung say you should leave the phone in an open place to dry. And remember, don’t use a hairdryer (吹风机) to dry it. The high temperature can damage the phone. Also, don’t put the phone in the fridge. Cold air can make water freeze inside the phone.
It’s hard to tell when the phone is completely dry. It may take a few days. Samsung says that although your phone can turn on again, it’s still a good idea to take it to a phone repair shop.
To stop your phone from getting wet in the first place, you can buy a waterproof (防水的) phone case.
It’s a good way to protect your phone. So, if your phone ever gets wet, just follow these steps and you might be able to save it.

Deep in the shady forests of Central America, there grows a funny-looking tree called the cocoa. Its trunk sprouts football-sized fruits in colors of reddish brown, green, purple, or yellow.
But inside is magic. Each pod (豆荚) holds 20 to 50 large bean-like seeds (种子), covered in a milky white pulp. These seeds also called cocoa beans (可可豆)—are where chocolate begins.
No one knows who first had the idea to eat cocoa seeds. The first cocoa eaters may have snacked on the pulp and thrown away the bitter seeds. But eventually, someone discovered that roasting (烘焙) the seeds makes them delicious.
Archaeologists have found traces of cooked cocoa in pots dating as far back as 1500 BCE. The pots came from the Olmec people, who lived in southern Mexico. The Maya may have learned about cocoa from the Olmec.
What did the Maya do with the cocoa? They did not make chocolate candy— that’s a modern invention. Instead, they drank it.①
Maya cocoa wasn’t much like the hot chocolate we drink today. The Maya didn’t have sugar or milk, so their drink was dark and bitter. To make it, they mixed ground cocoa beans, water, and spices with a little cornmeal.② People drank cocoa at religious festivals and to celebrate special events like weddings or the birth of a baby. Cocoa beans were so valuable that they were used as money. Traders from all over America came to Maya cities to trade for cocoa.
When the Spanish arrived in Mexico in 1519, they tasted cocoa for the first time—cocoa trees didn’t grow in Europe. The Spanish liked the drink.③ But they decided they liked it even better with sugar and cinnamon, and served warm.
The Spanish took cocoa back to Europe, where it became popular. At first, cocoa was an expensive drink that only the rich could afford. But by the 1700s, people all over Europe were enjoying cups of sweet, hot cocoa. The English added milk to theirs.④ The next big step for cocoa came in 1847, when an English candy maker found out how to turn the tasty beans into solid candy (固体糖果).
Today, Americans eat around 2.8 billion pounds of chocolate every year. That’s about 11 pounds (5kg) per person. We’ve changed how we make and eat cocoa, but all chocolate still comes from seed pods that are roasted and ground up. Just like the ancient Maya did.
1.What can we learn about the cocoa from the passage?
A.The cocoa trees look funny because of the football-sized seeds.
B.The Spanish and the English both enjoyed drinking cold cocoa.
C.The Maya were clever enough to make chocolate with the cocoa.
D.The cocoa was once used for daily pay because of its high value.
2.Which has the closest meaning to the underlined word “bitter”?
A.Having a good taste. B.Having a bad taste.
C.Having a good smell. D.Having a bad smell.
3.What is the writing purpose (目的) of the passage?
A.To share stories of cocoa history. B.To show findings from some studies.
C.To tell reasons of cocoa’s popularity. D.To introduce steps of making cocoa.

A.How to Find Special Code B.What Is Best Pure Milk Like
C.How to Choose Best Pure Milk D.What Big Change about Milk Powder

C.Sometimes, one plus one is about two. D.Sometimes, one plus one is more than three.
4.According to the passage, which of the following may be the writer’s opinion?
A.Learning math is about following rules. B.It’s our duty to question and change math.
C.Don’t be afraid to think differently about math. D.Only math can help us learn about the world.
B.Taking part in a talk on it in the hall.
C.Talking with history teachers about it.
D.Making note cards about it as reading.
2.How does the writer introduce tactile learning?
A.By giving examples. B.By listing numbers.

3.Which of the following statements may help to set healthy boundaries?
A.I like this movie, so you have to watch it with me.
B.It’s all up to you, and I will do whatever you want.
C.We have different ideas about this and that’s not OK.
D.That sounds fun for you, but I’m not comfortable about that.
4.Which of the following might be the best title for the passage?
A.Setting Boundaries—Being Honest to Say “No”
B.Setting Boundaries—Being Glad to Accept “No”
C.Setting Boundaries—The Best Way to Keep Healthy
D.Setting Boundaries—Respecting Yourself and Others
In the long history of China, people in the past gave us too many great handicraft skills that are useful in our daily life.
Bamboo weaving (竹编), a traditional craft, is one of them. People make bamboo into thinner strips (条) and use them to make all kinds of tools and fun things. Making things from bamboo takes lots of steps, like choosing the right bamboo, splitting it, putting it together, and coloring it. Each step needs a lot of skills and is done with our hands. In the past, bamboo was used to make containers (容器) so that people could put the things like eggs, vegetables and some other things in them. In Chinese culture, bamboo has many important meanings. It means both the humble gentleman (君子) and the spirit (精神) of keeping on.
Embroidery(刺绣), another traditional craft, is like drawing with needles (针) and threads (线), making pretty patterns. Chinese embroidery has a long history. It has four main styles: Su, Xiang, Shu and Yue. Su embroidery started long ago and became really popular in the Song Dynasty. Yue embroidery, which originated from the Tang Dynasty, is now in museums around the world. Shu embroidery, from Sichuan, is known for its dragon and phoenix (凤凰) designs. Xiang embroidery, from Hunan, uses a special way to embroider animals like lions and tigers. Embroidery has always been an important trade, especially during the Silk Road days. Today, people still show their special love of it.

Yunjin is a beautiful brocade (锦缎) made in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. Yun in Chinese means clouds and jin means brocade. The materials used in yunjin are valuable, such as silk, gold and silver, resulting in its high collecting value.
Yunjin, with a history of over 1,600 years, has the best quality among all the brocades in China. It stands for the finest Chinese silk cloth. The brocade comes out from a traditional wooden loom (织布机) as big as 5.6 meters long, 1.4 meters wide and 4 meters high. The huge loom needs two people to work, one above and one below. The process (过程) is so long and difficult that a brocade with a length of 5 to 6 centimeters takes two people all day to make and the production cannot be replaced with modern machines. Its pictures are large in shape and the use of gold and silver makes them rich and shining. In ancient times, yunjin served as materials for royal family’s clothes and to beautify their palaces. It was also used as gifts for important foreign guests.
With the development of technology and changes in people’s lifestyle, young people have less interest in traditional arts which require a long time of learning and practicing. To pass down the skills of yunjin, the Chinese government set up Nanjing Yunjin Research Institute in 1957, which has helped spread the culture of brocade and built a cultural bridge between China and the world.
