Sandesh Kadur, a National Geographic explorer, has spent 25 years documenting (记录) rare wildlife, changing his childhood interest into a duty to protect Earth’s ecosystems.
When he was young, Kadur was attracted by Corbett’s tales of big cats. Inspired, he once cycled into the jungle with a friend to observe big cats at a watering hole. At night, they really saw a big cat. Bathed in moonlight, he realized his life’s goal: to take photos of nature’s wonders and share them.
At 12, Kadur borrowed his father’s camera — a “magic box” that froze time. His father, a scientist who studies insects, got him looking at the small things. So he began intentionally taking photos of small insects, trying to understand what he was looking at. As he grew older, his love for nature, however, conflicted with academics. Afterwards, he moved to Brownsville, Texas to study hotel management — a choice that unexpectedly refueled his love for storytelling.
In Brownsville, Kadur explored the cloud forests and landed a job as a jungle tour guide. There, he met filmmaker John Bax, who introduced him to documentary work. When they started a documentary project together, Bax withdrew (退出) from it. Kadur, then 19 and untrained in film, carried on the project on his own. He later spent three years in India’s Western Ghats, filming species like the “smoke cat” for the first time. His first film, Sahyadris: Mountains of the Monsoon, brought the Western Ghats’ biodiversity into attention, aiding its 2012 UNESCO World Heritage status.
Through visual storytelling, Kadur offers his audience chances to know about a rarely-seen natural world, calling on them to protect its weak wildlife. “Visual art has told stories for thousands of years. Now we’re doing that with technology, and it will continue to advance.” said Kadur, “I think the influence of storytelling can last a lifetime. It can last generations.”
4. What led Kadur into nature?
A. Corbett’s stories of big cats. B. Working as a jungle tour guide.
C. Borrowing his father’s camera. D. His experience in hotel management.

A. It well entertains audiences. B. It serves as a bridge for nature.
C. Its value lies in expression skills. D. Its impact depends on technology.
7. Which of the following words can best describe Kadur?
A. Determined and passionate. B. Talented and humorous.

On 9th August, 2025, she led 46 elderly villagers on their first trip away from the mountains they call home. Imagine a person who has lost their sight being able to see again. Sounds like science fiction, right? But Neuralink, Elon Musk’s company, whose mission is to connect the human brain with computers, plans to implant tiny chips in the brain to help treat various conditions, including paralysis, hearing loss, and now, blindness. The goal? To help blind people see.
The new device, Blindsight, specifically intended for people who have completely lost their sight, is creative. Rather than curing eye diseases directly, the small, implantable chip that “sees” the world around it like a camera, connects directly to the part of the brain that controls movement or receives sensory information. Using sensors, chips and special software, it sends signals straight to the brain, allowing a person to sense the world in a new way.
As a result, the person receives “digital vision”. It won’t be the same as natural sight, but it may allow the user to sense light, movement, shapes, and even, potentially, faces. Over time, the brain might learn to interpret these signals more effectively, like learning a new language.
But there is still a long way to go. First, the company needs to ensure the technology is safe and truly works. Plus, any brain surgery carries risks. While Neuralink uses a specialized robot to perform the operation with surprising accuracy (精确性), potential risks can’t be removed. Other important questions like “What happens if the chip breaks?” “Are we ready to connect our thoughts to machines?” are what the upcoming research will aim to answer. And there’s still room for significant improvements, including the ability to see in different wavelengths.
Despite the concerns, Blindsight is a major leap forward for the future of technology. If successful, brain implants could help with many other conditions, like memory loss, depression, or even enhancing learning. The journey to turn this science fiction into a safe, functional reality is only just the beginning.
12. What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. The working principle of the device. B. The advantages of the invention.
C. The composition of the equipment. D. The importance of the tiny chip.
13. What may the underlined phrase “digital vision” in paragraph 3 refer to?
A. A natural ability to see in the dark.
B. An operation for curing eye diseases.
C. A software used to record visual memories.
D. A sight formed by brain-interpreted signals.
14. What is stopping Blindsight from being sold?
A. Poor image quality. B. Unconfirmed safety.
C. Disconnected network. D. Occasional breakdown.
15. Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?
A. Blindsight: An End to Memory Loss
B. A Tiny Chip: A Blessing for the Blind
C. Digital Technology: Turning Sci-Fi Into Reality
D. The Future of AI: Connecting Thoughts to Machines

Its help for our body is clear. Whether it’s practicing with a hitting bag or facing another boxer, boxing can be a hard form of exercise and give a full-body workout.____17____And it can also increase anaerobic (无氧的) fitness — allowing someone to work out harder, for longer. There is a third benefit to putting on boxing gloves (手套). Practicing boxing hits can be done alone, of course.____19____It also means working with others to train and stay safe. Dr. Gavin Williams, Senior Lecturer in Education at the Open University, says that this teamwork can create a sense of belonging.____20____
In short, boxing is more than just a sport. It’s good for your body, calms your mind, and helps you connect with others. No wonder it has been popular for so long and loved by so many people.
A. It can improve our body strength.

My name is Mae. I’ve always been passionate about exploring and solving problems — whether fixing a broken toy or figuring out how a phone app works. This led me to join our school’s Coding (编程) Club. In our first lesson, Ms. Davis told us that coding is more than writing lines of code. It is about using technology to make life easier for others.
“Your project,” she announced in class one day, “is to create a simple app that solves a real-life problem.” “You have one week to prepare,” she added gently, hoping this would give us enough time to find inspiration and finish the project.
The challenge stayed with me as I walked to my neighbor Mrs. Thompson’s apartment after school. She had invited me for tea, as she often did on Tuesdays. Mrs. Thompson was kind and cheerful, but lately she had been a little forgetful, often misplacing her keys or repeating the same story twice without realizing it. When I arrived, she was in the kitchen.
“Mae! Good timing,” she greeted me warmly, and then stopped, glancing at the kettle. “Did I already boil water for tea?”
I checked the kettle — it was still warm. We laughed about it as I poured water, and soon we were chatting. Our conversation turned to her weekly book club with friends. Mrs. Thompson smiled, talking about her two old friends. Mr. Brown arrived late for the game, and Mrs. Smith failed to bring her glasses twice. “We’re quite a group,” she said.
Then her expression grew thoughtful. “We manage, of course. But sometimes I think wouldn’t it be nice if something simply reminds us? Take medicine. Water the plants. Friday for book club.” She tapped her head with a soft laugh.
Her words sank in. At that moment, an idea formed in my mind. As I stood up to leave, I smiled mysteriously, “Give me a few days, and I’ll bring you a little surprise.”
“Oh? I’ll try not to forget that,” she laughed.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;

【答案】12.A 13.D 14.B 15.B
根据第二段“Using sensors, chips and special software, it sends signals straight to the brain, allowing a person to sense the world in a new way.(它利用传感器、芯片和特殊软件,直接向大脑发送信号,让人们以新的方式感知世界)”可知,第二段介绍了这款芯片设备的运作方式与工作原理。
根据第三段“It won’t be the same as natural sight, but it may allow the user to sense light, movement, shapes, and even, potentially, faces. Over time, the brain might learn to interpret these signals more effectively, like learning a new language.(它不会像自然视觉那样,但或许能让使用者感知光线、运动、形状,甚至可能识别出人脸。随着时间推移,大脑可能会学会更有效地解读这些信号,就像学习一门新语言一样)”以及前文芯片向大脑传输视觉信号的原理可知,“digital vision”是大脑解读电子信号后形成的全新视觉。
14.细节理解题。根据第四段“First, the company needs to ensure the technology is safe and truly works.(首先,该公司需要确保这项技术安全且切实有效)”可知,技术安全性尚未得到确认,存在手术风险,是该设备无法上市售卖的主要原因。
通读全文,尤其是第一段中的“But Neuralink, Elon Musk’s company, whose mission is to connect the human brain with computers, plans to implant tiny chips in the brain to help treat various conditions, including paralysis, hearing loss, and now, blindness. The goal? To help blind people see.(埃隆・马斯克旗下的 Neuralink 公司旨在连接人脑与计算机,计划向大脑植入微型芯片治疗多种病症,如今包含失明,其目标是帮助盲人重获视觉。)”

主语是“the correct pronunciation of the words”,为单数概念,且陈述的是客观事实,应用一般现在时。故填is。

故填are made。

That night, I sat at my desk, notebook open and mind racing with details. I decided to design a gentle reminder app especially for the elderly. I listed simple functions: important dates, daily tasks, and warm notes. I focused on making the words big and the buttons easy to touch. Whenever I felt stuck, I thought of Mrs. Thompson’s kind smile and her wish for something to help her remember. I carefully tested every part again and again, making sure it was simple and helpful. Deep in my heart, I hoped this little app could bring convenience and warmth to her and more elderly people.
A week later, I presented my project to Ms. Davis. I introduced the app’s purpose and showed how it worked. Ms. Davis praised my thoughtful idea and spoke highly of my project. After class, I brought the app to Mrs. Thompson. She was delighted and tried it at once. “This is exactly what I need,” she said happily. Watching her smile, I truly understood what Ms. Davis had meant: coding is not just code, but a way to use technology to care for others.
