It was my first day of classes at my senior high school. I felt like an ant at that huge school. I found my schedule and placed it next to the map. I had a biology class at 9:30 am in the BISIC building. I looked at my watch. It was 9:05 am, which gave me plenty of time, or so I thought. After walking around for 15 minutes, unable to find my way, I began to get very anxious. Just then a middle-aged woman in a bright purple dress approached (走近) me and asked me if I needed help. “Yes,” I said. “I am looking for the BISIC building.” A smile appeared on the lady’s face. “Oh, don’t worry, that is nearby!” She offered to direct me to my class, and I made it to my first class on time. The strange faces around me brought a sense of loneliness. I didn’t know one person in that great big class. When my last class came to a close, the nervousness of the day finally disappeared. It was finally time to go home. Along my walk, I recollected my classes and activities of the day and the new friends I had made. The comfort of arriving home was the best feeling that day. It was my first day of classes at my senior high school. I felt like an ant at that huge school.(“这是一所高中还是一个小镇?” 根据文章第二段内容“After walking around for 15 minutes, unable to find my way, I began to get very anxious.(走了15分钟后,我找不到路,开始变得非常焦虑。)” 根据文章第三段内容“The strange faces around me brought a sense of loneliness. I didn’t know one person in that great big class.(周围陌生的面孔给我带来了一种孤独感。 故选A项。 7. 通过阅读文章内容可知,文章首段内容“It was my first day of classes at my senior high school.(这是我在高中的第一天上课。)” C“My first day of high school.(我高中的第一天。)” C Artificial Intelligence (AI) is quickly changing how we live and work. Some people worry AI will take over jobs, but there is a better way to see the future. AI teamwork means using smart tools to help humans, not replace them. Erik Brynjolfsson, a professor at Stanford University, studied how AI can help workers. His team looked at over 5,000 customer service workers using an AI helper. This tool, trained on millions of service records, gave quick advice during customer chats. The results showed that workers with AI’s help solved 14% more problems each hour. For new or less-skilled workers, the improvement was even bigger—34%. By dealing with large amounts of information quickly, AI let humans focus on what they do best: helping others. The study also found that workers using AI were less likely to quit their jobs. This shows AI can make work easier and more satisfying. As AI spreads in workplaces, leaders must put people first. Jann Spiess, another Stanford expert, says people’s debates miss the point. They always ask, “Is AI better than humans?” instead of “How can AI and humans work together?” Kuang Xu, a technology professor, adds that AI should always aim to improve human decisions. Real-world examples prove this works. In hospitals, AI makes patient-information-recording go by itself, allowing doctors to focus on finding illnesses and patient care. In modern factories, AI manages quality checks, helping workers to deal with creative problem-solving. These examples show AI improves efficiency (效率) while keeping human strengths. The key point is clear: AI is not a threat (威胁) but a tool for progress. If designed to support humans, it can increase creativity, reduce stress, and prepare us for future challenges. As Brynjolfsson says, the future lies in joining machine speed together with human wisdom (智慧) . 8. What can we learn from Erik Brynjolfsson’s study? A. AI replaces workers in modern factories. B. AI makes workers less happy with their jobs. C. AI helps workers solve more problems quickly. D. AI only works for skilled customer service workers. 9. What does Jann Spiess think of people’s debates about AI? A. They miss AI’s possible use in hospitals. B. They fail to notice AI’s help in factories. C. They care only about information managing. D. They focus on AI-human competitive relationship. 10. What can we learn from the examples in Paragraph 4? A. AI helps workers do creative work. B. AI gives workers more tasks to do. C. AI takes over doctors’ tasks in hospitals. D. AI reduces doctors’ stress in treating diseases. 11. What of the following is the best title for the passage? A. AI Makes Jobs More Stressful B. AI Works Best Without Human Help C. AI Takes Over Human Jobs Completely D. AI Teamwork Makes Humans More Creative 【答案】8.C 9.D 10.A 11.D 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。 由第二段“The results showed that workers with AI’s help solved 14% more problems each hour. 根据第三段“They always ask, “Is AI better than humans?” instead of “How can AI and humans work together?” 根据第四段“Real-world examples prove this works. In hospitals, AI makes patient-information-recording go by itself, allowing doctors to focus on finding illnesses and patient care. In modern factories, AI managers quality checks, helping workers to deal with creative problem-solving. These examples show AI improves efficiency (效率) while keeping human strengths. 故选A。 11. 通读全文,尤其是第一段“Artificial Intelligence (AI) is quickly changing how we live and work. Some people worry AI will take over jobs, but there is a better way to see the future. AI teamwork means using smart tools to help humans, not replace them. D。 D A team of scientists has found that the Southern Ocean emits (发出) far more carbon dioxide (CO2) during the long, sunless Antarctic winter than scientists once believed. According to their new research, the amount of winter CO2 emitted from the ocean has been underestimated (低估) by up to 40%. The Southern Ocean is very important in Earth’s carbon system, taking in a large share of the CO2 produced by human activities. Yet scientists have long struggled to pin down how much carbon it actually exchanges with the atmosphere, calling it the “largest source of uncertainty” in global CO2 estimates. That uncertainty comes from not having enough direct observations. During the lightless winter months, the area is nearly impossible to study, as it is covered with darkness and hit by powerful storms. Previous satellites, which need sunlight to collect ocean information, cannot operate under these conditions. As a result, researchers have had to depend on models that only show part of what happens in winter. To solve this problem, the research team turned to a new way that mixed 14 years of satellite LIDAR information from the CALIPSO project with machine learning. Unlike others, LIDAR is an active technology. It works similarly to radar (雷达) but uses laser light instead of radio waves, carrying its own light source. This allowed scientists to collect information even in total darkness, producing the first continuous picture of wintertime CO2 exchange across the Southern Ocean. The results show that previous estimates missed about 40% of the ocean’s winter carbon emissions. Besides correcting the information, this study also changed how scientists understand the carbon cycle in the Southern Ocean. The team introduced a groundbreaking (创新的) “three-loop framework” that explains how different physical and biological processes affect CO2 exchange in different parts of the Southern Ocean. This offers a clearer picture of how this important part of the climate system works. Fixing it can help improve global climate models and understand future. 12. What does the underlined phrase “pin down” in paragraph 2 mean? A. Prevent. B. Demand. C. Challenge. D. Understand. 13. Why is it difficult to measure CO2 emissions from the Southern Ocean in winter? A. The air is badly polluted during that time. B. The models require repeated improvement. C. The area is dark and faces powerful storms. D. The sunlight there is unbearable for humans. 14. What does the author intend to do in paragraph 4? A. Show the difficulties the scientists have to face. B. Stress the importance of the Southern Ocean. C. Introduce the new method used by the researchers. D. Describe the challenges of studying climate change. 15. Which of the following can best describe the finding? A. Short-lived. B. Groundbreaking. C. Narrow-focused. D. Underestimated. 根据划线短语pin down后文的内容“how much carbon it actually exchanges with the atmosphere, calling it the “largest source of uncertainty” in global CO2 estimates.(其与大气之间实际的碳交换量,称其为全球二氧化碳估算中“最大的不确定性来源”。)” 根据文章第三段“That uncertainty comes from not having enough direct observations. During the lightless winter months, the area is nearly impossible to study, as it is covered with darkness and hit by powerful storms.(这种不确定性源于缺乏足够的直接观测。 根据文章第四段“To solve this problem, the research team turned to a new way that mixed 14 years of satellite LIDAR information from the CALIPSO project with machine learning. Unlike others, LIDAR is an active technology. It works similarly to radar (雷达) but uses laser light instead of radio waves, carrying its own light source. This allowed scientists to collect information even in total darkness, producing the first continuous picture of wintertime CO2 exchange across the Southern Ocean.(为了解决这个问题,研究团队采用了一种新方法,将CALIPSO项目14年的卫星LIDAR数据与机器学习相结合。 根据文章最后一段“The results show that previous estimates missed about 40% of the ocean’s winter carbon emissions. Fixing it can help improve global climate models and understand future.(研究结果表明,之前的估算遗漏了海洋冬季碳排放的约40%。 For many high school students, it seems that there is never enough time. His father worked two jobs, and his mother worked night shifts at a nearby hospital. They never complained about money in front of him. Still, Jack could see the bills piling up like autumn leaves on the kitchen table. At school, when other kids talked about holiday trips and new smart phones, Jack just smiled and never said a word. He already had his own secret wealth: books. He was the first to finish reading tasks and the first to ask the librarian if any new novels had arrived. Every afternoon, after finishing his chores, Jack would make his way to Bright Pages, the biggest bookstore in town. It was a warm, quiet place that smelled of paper and coffee. The owner, Mr. Reed, never minded Jack sitting in the corner for hours, reading without buying a single thing. Then one day, his teacher made an announcement. “Everyone needs a copy of The Lost Treasure,” she said. “It is a classic. We will read it together next month.” Jack’s heart sank. He hurried to the school library, only to be told that all copies had been taken. That Saturday, Jack went to Bright Pages like always. He just wanted to forget about it for a while. There, on the new arrivals shelf sat a book with a dark blue cover and silver letters spelling out The Lost Treasure. Jack’s breath caught. He picked it up carefully, as if it were made of glass. He turned to the back cover and saw the price: 50 dollars. It might mean a thousand to him. His shoulders fell. He put the book back, but his fingers stayed on it. A thought flashed through his mind. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ As promised, Jack came and helped out every afternoon. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 【导语】本文以《迷失的宝藏》这本书为线索展开,讲述了家境贫寒的Jack渴望拥有一本课堂所需的经典小说却无力购买,最终通过在书店打工换取书籍,领悟到努力与耐心真正价值的故事。 A thought flashed through his mind. AI Teamwork Makes Humans More Creative D A team of scientists has found that the Southern Ocean emits (发出) far more carbon dioxide (CO2) during the long, sunless Antarctic winter than scientists once believed. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ !/ 101/ 10 1 / 12 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
